After a serious battle with the INEC portal, i was finally able to apply and download my application slip

We need social media law to regulate fake news, the Amotekun is community policing, which is allowed for states , that's why each state has to pass its bill, for it to come to force. Which means its not a regional force but state vigilantes.

There were significant areas of concern in the originating piece. Nothing is more depressing than the vitiation of the educational system in Nigeria - at least for me.

OP's post and the situation presented screamed all that quite loudly. It might not have been particularly heartwarming to OP to receive my initial critical feedback, which was the first half of my response.

However, it is undeniable that it does address matters of education in Nigeria, especially at its most basic or elementary level, where the matter of interest itself lies.

In the end, I did point OP in the right direction to resolve the conflict. Win-win for everyone, after all.

Mum is the best teacher you know. She is a primary school teacher. That suggests she teaches at the elementary level where one of the core subjects is English language.

I'm afraid you may just have 'fallen hand' very badly - in the Nigerian lingua - and you have not covered so much in glory, at least to buttress your best teacher assertion.

As to the matter at hand, there are established ways in the civil service to resolve disputes: Teaching Service Commission, Civil Service Commission, and at the extreme, the National Industrial Court.

However, excuses like distance of assignment from residence shouldn't arise, really. It isn't an excuse to be officially considered at all in that line of responsibility. If anything at all, it should be lobbied for, under the table, and not presented as a major issue.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji  Sa’ad Abubakar, on Thursday blamed the northern elites for allowing some youths to float “what they called Operation Shege Ka Fasa.”

He urged the regional leaders to caution the youths.

The Sultan spoke at a Northern Security Meeting in Kaduna on Thursday.

The Coalition of Northern Groups had unveiled the symbol of the security outfit on Wednesday in Kaduna.

Sultan said, “I saw it on the television, and the media gave them attention. Now, the elders allowed these youths to go forward. So, the elites are our problems, the elders are our problems. If the elders don’t take the lead, the youth will do whatever they like and think they are right. You have to caution these youths by giving them good leadership.

“Now, they have launched their own security outfit I don’t know what they call it, Shege Ka Fasa’, meaning what?

“So, I want to call on northern elders to caution them. Don’t allow these youths to take over leadership from you. You have to reach out to everybody no matter how low the person is. So, I think we need to take the bull by the horns and not allow the youths take over responsibility. I think we need to do that and much more.”
He asked the governors of the northern states to tackle the security challenges in the region.

Abubakar also expressed concern over the 50,000 orphans in the region as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Sultan, who is the Nigerian Muslims spiritual leader, said if nothing was done about the orphans, they would turn out to be worse than Boko Haram.

“Several recommendations have been made but are not implemented and as they remain unimplemented, we will continue to suffer the consequences.”

Vice Chairman of Kolokuma/Opukuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Mr. Brian Alagha, has denied media reports that he appointed a 118 years old elderly woman as his special adviser.

In a statement by an aide to the council’s Vice Chairman, Mr Woyeingidipamo Victor, in Yenagoa, he said the vice chairman never appointed Ma Dani Orogono as his special adviser, but included her in his empowerment scheme with monthly stipend, which he uses in supporting aged men and women in the council.

He said: “The attention of of the Vice Chairman of Kolokuma Opokuma council in Bayelsa State has been drawn to some misconceptions been circulated in the media about a recent inclusion of a senior citizen of the state in the special scheme for the elderly.

“We will like to state clearly that Ma Orogono was not appointed, but was included as a beneficiary of the scheme which is part of the Vice Chairman’s programme to cater for the elderly and in line with the Ijaw traditions of giving honour to the oldest person in a community.

“Secondly, the letter that is in circulation was not duly signed by the Vice Chairman, who ought to sign such appointment letter. The old woman in question can barely walk or talk and her inclusion was to enable her benefit from the monthly stipends.

“Furthermore, this is not the first time the person of the Vice Chairman has reached out to the elderly, widows, youths and children of the council as there are periodical engagements in terms of empowerment programmes for women and widows where they are encouraged to go into small and medium scale businesses.

“Finally, we will like to let everyone know that there are several beneficiaries of the special scheme for the elderly and that everyone deserves equal opportunity no matter the age as this is the problem with our society when it concerns the old. They deserve love, respect and honour.”

As the news continue to make headlines over the latest return of multi-million Dollars allegedly stashed in foreign banks by former Nigerian military ruler, General Sani Abacha, his former Chief Security Officer, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has said the “Abacha loot” were stolen by the dictator’s successors.

Al-Mustapha queried the source of the stories, saying they were just lies against his late boss. He spoke on the Voice of America, VOA, Hausa Service, monitored by journalists in Kaduna on Thursday.

According to him, when late Abacha assumed leadership in Nigeria, there was about $200 billion in Nigeria’s foreign reserve.

“But before Abacha died, our foreign reserve rose to over $900 billion,” he said.

He said late Abacha had stepped on so many toes while he held forte, which is the reason some people were so angry and could sponsor such lies against him.

All the money been repatriated, Al-Mustapha said, were those stolen by some leaders who served after Abacha’s death.

He alleged that late Abacha’s successors in the Presidential Villa were the thieves who stole the billions and hid the money elsewhere.

He said: “I was forced to implicate the leadership of the defunct PTF under President Buhari then, during the military era.

“If there will be a genuine fight against corruption in Nigeria, many people will be arrested.”

Kano State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is about to witness historic moment as two serving Corp members are set to tie the knot on Friday in the state.

The duo of Mohammed Alhaji-Musa (a native of Afo from Nassarawa state) and Hauwa Yahaya-Bagudu (a native of Nupe from Niger State), both 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members met each other on camp during the three weeks orientation course and were attracted to each other leading into marriage.

The State Coordinator, Malam Ladan Baba who confirmed the development to newsmen in the state, said the about-to-be-couples intimated him about the courtship few months after the orientation course and he advised them to notify and seek the permission of their parents.

Baba said he was very happy six months after when the duo brought invitation card of the wedding to him and told him their parents have accepted the union.

The Coordinator said the union which is the first ever for couples from different states in Kano NYSC, will potray the purpose of the scheme which was established to ensure unity among Nigerians.
Interacting with Alhaji Musa on how the relationship started, he said they met during the orientation camp course and platoon activities in the state.

“We met in camp during our platoon activities, especially the day we met during our platoon duty in the kitchen”.

“I was initially attracted by her way of life, kindness and respect to people which i noticed during our stay in camp, therefore i really fall in love with her.

“It is a wonderful experience because in the first place, my intention was to serve in Abuja, but when my posting came out i was posted to Kano, i accepted in good fate not knowing that this is what will happen,” Alhaji Musa said.
