Music/RadioRe: Are The Grammy Awards Worth The Hype? by Len234: 9:30pm On Mar 16, 2021
The Grammy award is the foremost American music award. It is considered a world award because Americans control the world's media. But for it to be more accepted globally and not seen as American ward. It has to incorporate all genres of music from Afrobeats, to Asian, and carribean. Mind you there are awards for Latin and Mexican music in the Grammys. No country has the spending power than America in terms of music but China has more in terms of economy(ppp). So for the Grammys to truly be a world music award, it has to incorporate all the whole world. There as aspects of its music like rock, metal that is nof popular in other parts of the world. Although it's rap, pop, rnb, soul, funk are killers. You cannot expect afropop(beats) to compete with such musical hegemony. Burna Boy winning it is an achievement and a result of tweaking his category from world global album to international music album. Thus giving a leeway for perceived lesser genres of music to be recognized. Like Naomi Campbell stated, there should at least be an Afrobeats category for best song, collaboration, album like the rest.

CareerRe: A 100k Monthly Salary In Nigeria Is Better Than A 400k Monthly Salary In USA by Len234: 9:51am On Mar 10, 2021
This your comparison with 100k for naija and 400k for America per month is bullshit. Nobody earns 400k naira in America if you are working. It's farcmore than that. What you should compare is the minimum wage. 30k for naija a month and 3k for U. S PER HOUR. So because of this, the rent is high. Remember, U. S is a high earning nation which pays taxes on many things ; property tax et all. And you can't use more than one car at a time. So no need to accumulate cars cos of taxation. It's easier to make money from U. S and return to naija than to make money from Naija and go to the U. S. If u know the benefits of living in a developed country as against Naija. Then staying there is worth it no matter the tax.

In as much that we as Nigerians are happy with the massive strides of Eko Atlantic. It is impossible to compare to Dubai, because it is a modern standard of development. It is about 4000km of natural land and therefore will be cheaper to rent or lease. We all know Eko Atlantic is sand filled making it more expensive. Even having private individuals build it will take ages. But as we know it is not how far but how well. We all know that after this, the govereof Lagos will control the city and we know Nigerian government is full of criminals.

TravelRe: Anambra International Airport Runway - Stone Base In Pictures by Len234: 10:53am On Jul 24, 2020
After reading all here are my points.

I. Everybody know ls Nnamdi kanu is a foul mouthed fellow. But u don't win cases with softness when u don't have the upper hands. Your oppressors will continue in their ways unless there is a revolution. Kanu's strategy is like inciting a revolution to free the minds of the masses from mental Slavery. Some igbos have freed themselves already but still need smother tribes to do so and know that Nigeria is a scam. Dats why I like the Arab world. They don't need anybody to free them. Once the leaders are bad they will revolt.

II. On Nelson Mandela being a diplomatic person. That is not entirely true. Nelson used civil disobedience while he was in prison. Even the FBI blacklisted Nelson as a terrorist during the Apartheid regime. He freed the minds of blacks to fight oppression. Today the Blacks in SA are free.

III. On the viability of Anambra Airport. There is no need to argue against that. The S. E states have the highest population outside Lagos, kano etc. So more people will use the airports. Afterall Ebonyi dosent have any, they can use Enugu airport. The accompanying development this can do to that town cannot be understated. Sometimes citing a project may not be necessarily for its purpose. It can bring about hotels, estates bear the airport, industries since it is a cargo airport.
PoliticsRe: Senators Bicker Over Innoson Motors Boss, Chukwuma by Len234: 11:06am On Jul 15, 2020
u must be one of those automated idiots on this forum or maybe u forgot ur brain where u slept last night, incase u don't know what happened read this b4 u foolishly quote me.....
Our attention has been drawn to media reports that the Nigeria Police had applied for a bench warrant to arrest the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, over unfounded allegations of forgery and loan infractions with GTBank.
Consequently, we’ve deemed it proper to respond and put the records straight.
To be clear, a bench warrant can only be applied for and, if the necessary conditions are met, be issued by a court in a pending charge. As it stands, there is no charge pending against Mr. Chukwuma, Innoson Motors, Charles Chukwu, Maximian Chukwura, Mistsui Osk Lines and Anajekwu Sunny.
The police got involved in the ongoing legal dispute between Innoson Group and GTBank on December 21, 2015, when the Inspector General of Police initiated a lawsuit, charge number: FHC/L/565C/2015, against Mr. Chukwuma and five others based on frivolous complaints by GTBank.
But on February 17, 2016, the police withdrew the charges, saying they needed to properly investigate the bank’s complaints first and see if they had merits.
Since the police have withdrawn their charges, it is then wrong for the same police to seek arrest warrant against Mr. Chukwuma on the claims that he was evading court proceedings.
A prosecutor at the Office of Attorney-General told the court that the police filed charges against Innoson Group executives in December 2015 but he didn’t inform the court that the same police had withdrawn the matter weeks later.
This was a perhaps an attempt by the Ministry of Justice official to mislead the court because the presiding judge, Ayotunde Faji, had only recently took over the matter.
The failure by the police to carefully investigate complaints before taking Innoson Motors and its executives to court and the involvement of the AGF’s office were amongst the numerous tactics which GTBank had deployed to avoid paying its debt to Innoson Motors.
THE GENESIS OF THE WITHDRAWN ALLEGATIONS; SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
At all material time, Innoson Nigeria Ltd. was a customer of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. Sometime in 2012, Innoson discovered that GTBank had arbitrarily imposed and debited its current account to the tune of N700 million in excessive and unlawful charges.
Despite a series of complaints and demand for reversal of the illegal charges, a defiant GTBank refused to refund the N700 million to Innoson.
Consequently, Innoson sued GTBank before the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State.
Delivering judgement in suit number: FHC/AWK/CS/139/2012, the FHC awarded N4.7 billion to Innoson Motors against GTBank. The court also ordered GTBank to pay 22 percent interest on the judgment debt until all the payment had been made to Innoson.
GTBank challenged the judgement at the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division. The appeal number is: CA/E/288/2013.
However, on December 9, 2014, the Court of Appeal upheld the judgement of the FHC and ordered GTBank to pay its debt to Innoson into an interest-yielding account operated by the court. By then, the debt had accumulated to over N6 billion.
Similarly, the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division, in a garnishee order absolute made on July 29, 2011, ordered GTBank to pay N2.4 billion to Innoson. The case number is: FHC/L/CS/603/2006.
Also, the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, in its judgment of February 6, 2014 affirmed the decision of the FHC and ordered GTBank to pay N2.4 billion. The appeal number is: CA/I/258/2011.
Based on the numerous judicial pronouncements to the appellate levels, GTBank was indebted to Innoson Motors up to N8.5 billion as at 2013/2014.
In its various affidavits, particularly at the Court of Appeal in suit number: CA/E/288/2013, GTBank deposed that if it pays the outstanding judgment debt of N6 billion, much less the N8.5 billion, it could go bankrupt and be out of business.
Consequently, in order to save itself from paying the outstanding judgment debts to Innoson, the bank filed a petition which led to the suit No: FHC/L/565C/2015 – which was properly and competently withdrawn by the police on February 17, 2016 as stated above.
ON THE ALLEGATION OF FALSIFICATION OF SHIPPING DOCUMENTS TO OBTAIN A N2.4 BILLION LOAN FROM GTBANK.
GTBank did not at any time grant any loan of N2.4 billion to Innoson. And there was no such thing as Innoson obtaining any loan from GTB with shipping documents.
Innoson obtained, and had repaid same, a loan of N1.3 billion from GTB which was secured with a legal mortgage of its properties valued at more than N1.4 billion.
Please note that shipping documents, vide: bills of lading, are issued when goods covered by them are already loaded onto the conveying vessel.
It is highly unlikely that any manufacturer would release its goods for shipment unless it had been paid or its payment had been guaranteed.
In this circumstance, is GTBank saying that Innoson used bills of lading to obtain loan from it but it didn’t investigate the genuineness of the documents before granting the loan? This, surely, should not be an attribute of a seasoned financial institution; except that of an unethical and a careless bank.
Secondly, it also means that for Innoson to have the bills of lading, the goods were already paid for or their payment guaranteed and, as such, the company did not need any loan from GTBank in that regard.
This alone disproves GTBank’s claim that a loan was obtained with dubious shipping documents – bills of lading.
Moreso, GTBank paid the duties for all the goods Innoson imported with the facility it granted to it before Innoson cleared the goods covered using the bills of lading.
As at the time of payment of the duties, GTBank knew or ought to know that the goods covered by the bills of lading and its facility were to be cleared.
Also, after clearing the goods Innoson returned to GTBank the relevant exchange rate documents for onward transmission to Central Bank of Nigeria, and accordingly GTBank transmitted the paperwork to the CBN.
Innoson didn’t do anything hidden, fraudulent or criminal in all its dealings with GTBank.
The bank is only looking for means to blackmail, hoodwink and force Innoson to forego its monetary judgment, which now stands at estimated N10 billion.
GTBank’s desperate schemes in this regard know no limit.
Recently, in a ploy to get the Supreme Court of Nigeria to set aside the N2.4 billion judgment debt against it, it alleged, through a motion in suit number: SC/694/2014, that the Court of Appeal judgement in Ibadan (CA/I/258/2011) was procured by suspicious means. But the Supreme Court in its wisdom, and rightly, dismissed that unfounded and exasperating claim in May 2017.
As a result, Innoson commenced a N400 billion suit against GTBank, in Suit No: FCT/HC/CV/2448/2017, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Also pending before the Court of Appeal is an appeal on whether there is any charge at the Federal High Court, given the police withdrawal of the charge.
Even though the motion for a stay of proceedings was dismissed by the Court of Appeal while the substantive appeal is still ongoing, Innoson has appealed against that decision to the Supreme Court of Nigeria in suit number: SC:839/2017.
The Office of the Attorney-General is proceeding with the case even after the police have withdrawn their charges because they had not concluded investigation.
At the Supreme Court, Innoson filed motions to quash the directive of the Court of Appeal which had erroneously ruled that proceedings should continue despite police having withdrawn from the case at the High Court.
Innoson has served the Federal High Court notices of the motions pending at the Supreme Court.
Therefore, contrary to media reports, Justice Faji did not adjourn on October 10, 2017 to November 21, 2017 for hearing of the application for issuance of bench warrant.
Rather, the judge requested time to study ruling of the Court of Appeal and to hear Innoson’s and others’ preliminary objections.
There was no pending application for issuance of bench warrant against Innoson Group executives before Honourable Justice Faji on October 10, 2017.

All these talks about igbos not supporting innoson is bullshit. If he is not supported his business will die. Don't you think. The issue of the innoson cars arose when senators patronized Toyota. Yea right Toyota is a better brand, even better than many cars except the German cars. It's better than American cars but Americans still patronize theirs. It's contradictory that u ban foreign rice and cannot patronize indegenous cars.
About the Gtb issue, I use gtb. It's a good bank. But let's be truthful gtb wanted to rip off innoson of his money by systematically collecting money for a period of time. When innoson found out, he questioned them and they wanted to bring the Govt to the case which eventually backfired

All you ppl criticizing the Govt for building roads and fly overs. Don't h know the first point of economic development is infrastructures. Without it no state can develop economically. Fly overs are not necessarily meant to ease only congestion. They can serve as linkage to two different roads, towns or over water. Praising the government is not cos of the works but because previous ones did nothing in the state. Remember Nigeria really kick started around 1999 before dat most Govt were just squandering money. A state like Anambra only had these infrastructure when Ngige assumed power around 2006. So subsequent govts would like to match or over perform him. Ngige built roads, Peter Obi solidified education and commerce. Obiano is going about the bridges and housing and Erosion control. It is indeed a joined effort to change the face of Anambra. Unlike Abia state that have had successive impudent looters as governors. This is not saying Anambra state governors didn't loot. At least the governors should retain already built infrastructure or add more to their respective states. This ensures progress. Meanwhile Naija should be restructured so that every governor should be accountable to their region

What people do not understand is that Nigeria is a country that lacks structure and is bedeviled with tribalism. A serious country will have functioning ports in all states on the Atlantic coast. China has 34 main ports and 2000 minor ports around the country. Calling the achievement of Lagos, a Yoruba effort is like a slap to all Nigerians that fought the Civil war. Because Lagos is a brainchild of Nigeria. It is Nigerian pet project. It housed many companies and parastatals brought by Nigerians from different parts of the country. It is even mediocre that Lagos is not even near Kigali in terms of development despite all the money poured in to its economy. Lagos is just the financial hub of Africa cos of efforts of Nigerians.Do u think 21 million ppl living in a small place like Lagos is healthy? The Nigerian government has failed to diversify the economy across various regions. The United States has California as the tech state, New York as financial, Massachusetts as education, Texas as agriculture, Miami as tourism, and other states to a degree.

China with poisoned lands are the largest exporters of Rice. All these just government policies to diversify the economies of their countries. Each region can achieve Agricultural independence in Nigeria.

For those saying Cosmas Maduka was given monopoly of BMW from OBJ. It is thrash and not relevant. OBJ cannot give license to bring in BMW cars. What he can do is license to bring in any type of cars. Maduka got his license form BMW hq. Just like Ekulo being the only distributor of a certain type of wine in Nigeria. These licenses are purchased by individuals. And this makes much sense for the company to have a recognized, reliable partner in countries than having different customers which is bad for business.

PoliticsRe: Igbo V Yoruba, By Cheta Nwanze by Len234: 6:19pm On Apr 18, 2020
The hatred comes from the fact that if jobs were given based on merits, the Igbo will have 70% of it. If not can you explain the fact that before independence, the igbos were in the most highest places in all of Nigeria and Nigeria was doing alright. But when the white men left he placed power in the north by falsifying their population, situating critical military positions in the north and encouraging them to use whatever means to prevent the Igbo from taking Africa forward. How can a non educated tribe lead Africa in its most populous country? We all know that when Yoruba and Hausa come together, it is for their singular hatred of the igbos. So in present day, the north has usurped power with small batches from the west but Nigeria remains the same. The north controls the oil, the west critical infrastructures like companies, industries etal. Why was such not placed in delta, bayelsa, ibom, calabar, PH et al. Don't u know that the west has the greatest advantage of any tribe in Africa. They have the seaport for the most populous nation., yet the easterners surpass them in imports and exports. They had the headstart in finances after the Civil War yet the east has caught up in spite of their wicked £20 monetary system. We should all see the truth and speak it always. The West should be by far the greatest tribe in Africa but they have learnt Tha almajiri style of the north and perfected it with omonile ie knowingly selling lands in Lagos and not re-investing. The fact that igbos are competing with them in Lagos is a thing of shame with 21 million inhabitants they cannot lay claim to be the best tribe in Africa.

Did President Obama save the auto industry?
NATIONAL
In 2010, President Obama visited a Chrysler plant in Detroit, Mich.In 2010, President Obama visited a Chrysler plant in Detroit, Mich.
In 2010, President Obama visited a Chrysler plant in

Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick called him the president "who saved the American auto industry from extinction." The former CEO of the super-sized used car dealership CarMax, Austin Ligon, said the president’s decisive action to restructure General Motors and Chrysler "helped prevent a domino effect that would have taken down everything in the auto industry, from the factories that manufactured auto parts to the dealers who sold the cars." And Michelle Obama talked about how her husband "fought to get the auto industry back on its feet."

One should make allowances for the exuberance of political speech. But when a party shines a spotlight on a particular claim during the week when it trots out its best and brightest, we should take a closer look.

We ask, did President Obama really save American auto makers? This is more a matter of opinion, and not an item for the Truth-O-Meter, but we can still shine some light on the question.

In broad strokes, the answer is yes, but with some help from the other party and with one huge unknown -- no one can say what would have happened without massive government intervention. We spoke with a number of analysts and read many independent reports. There is no question that General Motors and Chrysler are profitable today. But so is Ford, a company that received no financial aid at all. The jobs have returned -- although not nearly at the level they were before the industry began its steep decline in 2007.

Without a doubt, the American auto industry emerged smaller and more competitive.

In the words of the bipartisan Congressional Oversight Panel that assessed the impact of the government's efforts: "The industry’s improved efficiency has allowed automakers to become more flexible and better able to meet changing consumer demands, while still remaining profitable."

Barack Obama, however, cannot claim full credit for this outcome. According to several experts, he needs to share it with his predecessor, President George W. Bush. Dr. James Rubenstein at Miami University co-wrote a post-bankruptcy assessment for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Rubenstein said no one should overlook the importance of Bush’s decision to use $17.6 billion in TARP money in December 2008 to keep General Motors and Chrysler afloat.

"The Bush Administration provided short-term bridge loans," Rubenstein said. "That allowed the Obama Administration to take a couple of months to assess the situation."

Aaron Bragman, the lead American automotive analyst for the financial forecasting group IHS Automotive, echoed the point. "The Bush administration is the one that actually acted to save them from an uncontrolled bankruptcy and shutdown," Bragman said. "The Obama administration's role was to fix them."

Layoffs in 2008

In 2008, the entire auto industry was in very bad shape. Layoffs at auto plants and among auto parts suppliers were on track to reach 250,000 workers. Gasoline prices were up and buying power was down. General Motors was virtually out of cash to pay its bills and Chrysler was not far behind. In November 2008, the New York Times ran the headline "GM teetering on bankruptcy, pleads for federal bailout".

The Center for Automotive Research, an independent research group that gets some funding from automakers, predicted harsh outcomes if GM and Chrysler went belly up. Beyond the immediate jobs lost, there would be a partial collapse of the supplier industry that would lead to a 50 percent drop in production at Ford and the American-based foreign car plants. Imports would replace 70 percent of the lost GM and Chrysler production, the group predicted.

When President Obama took office, he created a task force with a sweeping mandate to determine the fate of GM and Chrysler. The companies’ first proposals to the task force included downsizing, but the task force wanted deeper changes. In March 2009, Obama rejected those plans and said if the firms wanted federal money, they had to go through bankruptcy. That happened quickly. The car companies filed for bankruptcy in June and emerged in July.

Between 2008 and 2010, carmakers closed or scheduled the closure of 16 plants and cut their ties with about 2,500 dealerships. Stockholders were wiped out and creditors such as banks and pension funds wrote off about two-thirds of the value of their claims. The companies shed their entire obligation to pay for the health care of retired autoworkers and that burden shifted to an independent trust fund in which the United Auto Workers union appoints five out of 11 board members.

Under new ownership

What emerged was a smaller American auto industry with a very different set of owners.

The Italian car company Fiat became the majority stockholder of Chrysler. The second largest owner of Chrysler now is that retiree trust fund. For GM, the U.S. government now owns about 32 percent of the company. Private shareholders account for about 35 percent. The retiree trust fund owns about 10 percent.

The union gave up the right to strike through 2015 and ended automatic pay raises. Back in 2007, it had agreed to a two-tiered wage scale that allowed the companies to hire new workers at much lower pay. Between the new wage rates and the savings from taking over retiree health costs, labor costs fell by about a third and are now on par with those of the foreign carmakers.

The entire deal was financed with about $80 billion in taxpayer money. That included a special $5 billion set aside to keep cash flowing to car part suppliers when they found that their normal lines of credit had vanished.

The turnaround

Today, total employment for carmakers and parts suppliers is up about 250,000 from 2009. In 2011, sales rose 10 percent for GM, 13 percent for Ford and 14 percent for Chrysler.

"Both Chrysler and General Motors are not just profitable," said Bragman. "They are significantly profitable, earning more now than they have in years."

The benefits have not flowed simply to GM and Chrysler. In a speech this June, Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally said the bailouts were the right medicine for his company as well.

"If GM and Chrysler would've gone into free-fall," Mulally said, "they could've taken the entire supply base into free-fall also, and taken the U.S. from a recession into a depression."

There is no guarantee that these gains are permanent. The auto industry is on firmer ground because it can sell far fewer cars than it once did and still be profitable. However, making the cars and trucks that people want at the right price is a moving target.

Still, the present success leaves critics asking whether it came at too high a price. The Treasury Department estimates that about $23 billion will never be repaid. For James Sherk, an analyst at the conservative Heritage Foundation, much of that is due to "incredibly generous treatment of the unions." Sherk says the union’s retiree health benefit fund got about $21 billion more than it deserved compared to other creditors.

Mitt Romney has taken up that claim, saying the bailout was flawed by "crony capitalism." The union counters that the trust fund does not belong to the union and the fund took on the substantial risk of providing healthcare for retirees for all the decades to come. According to the Center for Automotive Research, that shift alone accounted for two-thirds of the labor savings that have made the carmakers competitive.

At the libertarian Cato Institute, Dan Ikenson says no one can know for sure, but he thinks disaster would not have occurred if the companies had been allowed to go through a normal bankruptcy.

"I suspect some assets of both companies would have been sold off to other auto producers," Ikenson said. "And some assets and brands would have remained under the GM and Chrysler names."

A key question for advocates of a conventional bankruptcy is whether private lenders would have come forward to finance any such deal. The view of most analysts is that the private money would not have been there.

The Economist, one of the bastions of free-market thinking, came around to that view. Originally, it favored no government intervention. In April 2010, it offered an apology to President Obama.

"Given the panic that gripped private purse-strings," the magazine wrote in an editorial. "It is more likely that GM would have been liquidated, sending a cascade of destruction through the supply chain on which its rivals, too, depended."

Even Sherk at the Heritage Foundation gives Obama credit for forcing the carmakers to go through bankruptcy and the necessary restructuring that followed. The Economist concludes "by and large Mr Obama has not used his stakes in GM and Chrysler for political ends. On the contrary, his goal has been to restore both firms to health and then get out as quickly as possible."

As we said in the beginning, it is impossible to know if the American auto industry would have fared better without government money, without government ownership, and without strong government intervention. Most likely, that debate would be more robust if the industry were not doing well.

But for the moment, it is. The massive loss of jobs and the disruption to the network of auto parts suppliers did not happen. The shock that might have hit all car makers and the overall economy is not staring lawmakers in the face. Given the tangible reality of today, the view among most analysts is that President Bush kept the carmakers afloat long enough for President Obama to put them on solid footing moving forward. If that matches the definition of a rescue, then both presidents saved the auto industry.

PH, the most industrialized, delta, trying and Anambra, the most expansive road network encompassing urban and rural areas. Edo has mostly the capital developed. Bayelsa is neglected. It needs more bridges and roads. Akwa-ibom and calabar, the neatest but still have problems with rural road networks.
