If Ighalo is available for the Olympics I think he would be the overwhelming favorite to start as CF. That makes us have 2 more CF options to pick from Isaac Success, Aaron Samuel, Aminu Umar, Chisom Chikatara, Sadiq Umar, Junior Ajayi, Imoh Ezekiel, Taiwo Awoniyi and wonder kid Victor Osimhen. The first 4 I mentioned to me are the front runners.

Iheanacho I believe would coming into the team as an AM. He stands a better chance of starting a game from that position. As I said Ighalo would be the preferred CF option.

With the exception of Odion Ighalo, Isaac Success, Aminu Umar, and possibly Chisom chikitara, No one on this list is "mature" enough for the sole CF role.

Observing.....where is joseph1013?

Even if Nacho has to stay on the bench for the reminder of the season, He dare not seek for a lone move this january...
The prospect of winning the league, league cup and possibly FA cup is too good to let go

After winning the 2015 U23 Caf Africa Cup of Nations title in style, coach Samson Siasia is hopeful of strengthening his squad with the addition of Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Alex Iwobi and Aminu Umar ahead of the Olympic Games in August.

Goal can exclusively reveal that the quartet is included in the final list of players that would play for Nigeria in Rio.

Siasia, who has been on holidays in the United States of America, has kept mute about his plans and programmes for the Olympics leaving.

The coach, however, broke his silence when he spoke about his programme with the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday.

A very close confidant of the coach who spoke on condition of anonymity told Goal on Wednesday that Siasia has been thinking of ways to boost the team’s front line that has given him much headache since the 2015 All African Games.





The former Super Eagles coach is not expected to do a total overhaul of the team, but he is eager to inject quality players to make it a very solid and result-oriented one capable of withstanding threats from European and South American opponents that they would face.

“The chief coach has been working all this time he has been in the United States because he told me that time is not on the team’s side again,” the source told Goal.

“What is paramount in his mind is injection of quality and talented players to beef up the team and make it stronger than the one that won the Africa U23 Cup of Nations. He has a limited number of players he is looking at and the search light is on the three departments of the team, attack, midfield and defense, but most importantly the attack and the defense line.

“As I speak with you he has already spoken with Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Alex Iwobi and Aminu Umar to be members of the team. He said with a number of grade A friendlies, these attackers and the other defenders and midfielders that he hopes to introduce to the team would not only fortify it but make it very ready for the battle to conquer the world at the Olympics in Brazil.

‘The chief coach has wonderful plans to surprise the world this time around and he said that both the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation have vowed to help him out this time around not like what happened in Senegal during the Africa Championship.”

Siasia, winner of Olympic silver medal as coach in 2008, hopes to go one better this year by bringing home Nigeria’s second gold in the Olympic Games football event.

Nacho placed for the EDS I think last week or so. He gave an un-spectacular performance and seemed match rusty. I expected him to blow those kids away but that just didnt happen... He was quite throughout the game. However he had three assists in the game. EDS won 3 goals to 1

FIFA says soccer clubs don’t have to release players for Rio Olympics

Soccer clubs are under no obligation to allow their players to play in the Rio Olympic men’s tournament, FIFA said Friday.

“The event is not part of the international match calendar,” FIFA said in a press release. “However, FIFA is asking for support from the clubs to allow players who are called up by their national teams to be given the chance to be part of the Olympic experience.”

The move could impact Brazil’s biggest sports star, Barcelona striker Neymar, who has said he’s made his intentions to play in the Olympic soccer tournament known to his club.

In 2012, FIFA ordered club teams to allow under-23 players to compete in the Olympics. In 2008, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Barcelona did not have to release Lionel Messi to compete in the Olympics, though Messi did end up winning gold with Argentina anyway.

In May, Brazil national team coach Dunga, who is also the under-23 Olympic team coach after the firing of Alexandre Gallo, said Neymar’s participation in the Rio Olympics was dependent on talks with Barcelona, according to O Globo.

Neymar may be the 2016 Olympic host nation’s most famous potential Olympian, but there is at least some question of whether he will suit up at the Rio Games.

Copa America Centenario is slated to take place from June 3-26. Soccer at the 2016 Olympics takes place from Aug. 3-20. Neymar plays for Barcelona in La Liga, whose season usually begins in late August. That would be a busy summer of national team duty, which may not sit well with Barcelona.

Three of the world’s other top players — Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Messi — also play internationally for nations that qualified for Rio 2016 (Portugal, Sweden and Argentina).

World Cup winner Germany also qualified for Rio.

Olympic soccer teams are made up of players aged 23 and under. There’s also an option of having three over-age players, which is where Neymar, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic and Messi would come in.

Some nations take greater advantage of the Olympic rule that allows three over-age players more than others. In 2012, Brazil used its exceptions on three exceptional players —Hulk, Marcelo and Thiago Silva — who started for Brazil in the 2014 World Cup.

Brazil, which has won five World Cups, has never won Olympic gold in soccer. It won silver in 1984, 1988 and 2012 and bronze in 1996 and 2008.

Neymar, then 20, was part of the 2012 Olympic team that lost to Mexico in the final.

Also Friday, FIFA confirmed that the Qatar 2022 World Cup would not interfere with the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, as the IOC has said for months.

The 2022 World Cup dates are Nov. 21-Dec. 18, which will coincide with various winter sports seasons.

However, it is unlikely that club sides would release their players for the tournament since it is not a FIFA tournament.
Sad to say, players like Isaac Sucess, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo, Efe Ambrose, Onazi will HARDLY be released for the tournament.

That's what I am talking about. The likes of Saviour, Awoniyi, and the bench warmers might not make it to the Olympics if they don't buckle up and fight for a starting shirt in their clubs.

And their teams will not release them for the tournament...

The OLYMPIC IS NOT IN FIFA CALENDER... Therefore clubs are not obligated to release their players for the tournament

Oruma was a star. It is just that his time collided with the emergence of one of Africa's best midfielders, Okocha. Okocha was up there with the best in the World. That did not make Oruma a poor player. Oruma did well whenever he got an opportunity. Did well for Lens And Marceille.

It is just like the clash we have in our attack with Success, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Osimhen. If one or two becomes a Super Star, it did not mean the others were not good.

Do you remember Nigeria vs Kenya coached by Coach Monday Sinclair. Where Sinclair dropped Okocha for Oruma. He invited Chris Ohenhen and some home baser boys.

Oruma put up a mind blowing performance that many wondered what if there was no Okocha. Oruma would have been a King without Okocha in the scene. We thank God we had both.

Oruma also had some [b]indiscipline problems that affects a lot of youngsters bur do not belittle him because he was pure brilliance.

Even at France 98, when he got his chance, he scored.

It is sad players like Oruma and Ebiede did not get their chances. Okocha was great but these guys were also brilliant.[/b]

Anyone here who is old enough to have watched Oruma play for the NT and in his club would allude to the fact that Oruma was a great player. When it comes to skills, Oruma was almost as good as Okocha. I was privileged to watch Oruma play... What did he not do? Slide rule passing, Outrageous dummies, ball juggling, steps overs, flip-flap, back heels, even marseilles roulette.

At the bolded... that was the difference... He lacked some discipline...
It only proves that any talent without discipline is protem at best.
Some benign personality and attitudinal problems can inhibit career growth.

For the records, Oruma is one of the most skillful players to have emanated from Africa... Very few can do what he did with his feet...

Sporting Clube de Portugal, Lisbon have set the ball rolling in their bid to seal a move for Golden Eaglets stars Kelechi Nwakali and Victor Osimhen, this is according to allnigeriasoccer.com.

Both players won individual awards at the recently concluded FIFA Under 17 World Cup, with skipper Nwakali picking up the prestigious Golden Ball accolade and Osimhen winning the Golden Boot after scoring in every single game contested by the Golden Eaglets at the tourney.

Clubs in England, including Arsenal and Chelsea, have been keeping tabs on the pair after their impressive showing in Chile but no formal bid has been received as yet.

Nig vs Mali finals... My take

I have not seen the malians play... Didnt watch any of their game excepts getting a glimpse of the highlights of one of their games.

Since it is an all african final, I suppose it will be a tight game...

However, having seen the eaglets play, I make these submissions..

The odds will favour the eaglets if their juggernauts are on fire...
1. chukwueze... he seems to me the most technically gifted in the team... Hope he makes forward runs deep into the opposition... he would be a handful for the opposition defense..
I tip him to provide some moment of magic

2. Osimhen.... This guy is a cheat and a bully.... Let hope he is well rested for the game... His work rate is impeccable...
So much is expected of him..

3. Nwakali and the midfielders.... The midfield is whats makes Amunike's tactics wield... They lack central midfielders... What I see are three defensive midfielders thus the team will hardly boss possession against opponents... however the trick seems to be working... Nwakali's deep lying playmaker role seems so be working... But I will expect from seriousness from him... He proved he can step up in the last game...

4. Lazarus.... this guy is very hardworking but not too good with one-on-one situations.... He is easily beaten and often drawn out of position...The defence should give him more support...

Haven stated the above, I would love to see the eaglets let flying from the blast of the whistle... they tend to start slowly... Perhaps this could be part of Amunike's tactics but I hate to trail...

I tip the eaglets to win although finals between closely related teams could go either way regardless of either team's form...

For me honestly, the outcome of the match is not so important..

Guys, guys. Baring any changes, I can tell u that Samson Siasia is being prepared as d next U20 coach.

Manu Garba proved he cannot manage the team at that level and the fear is Amuneke may also thow Manu's line. The most experienced youth level coach with d best track record is Samson Siasia.

Now this is the plan: Olympic is in 2016 and next is 2020. Siasia will b free in 2017.So he handles the U20 team and 3yrs later take them to 2020 Olympics.
Remember in 2005 he handled the U20 & 2008 the Olympic team and we all saw how successful the two teams were. If not for Messi and Di Maria we would probably have won d U20 & U23 respectively.

I believe if the plan works perfectly well, Nigeria will b a team to watch at Qatar 2022.

Me think this is a good plan by d NFF.
