PoliticsRe: Moody’s Has Upgraded Nigeria’s Credit Rating From Caa1 To B3 by lionshare: 8:47pm On May 31, 2025
Irony1:
Bros calm down these propaganda games no dey sell again. The government has a revenue problem and they need to fund the budget. All these are just avenues to fund the budget, there is no economic production these funds will be channeled to.
It seems you lack a clear understanding, which may explain why you have avoided answering the questions posed.
PoliticsRe: Moody’s Has Upgraded Nigeria’s Credit Rating From Caa1 To B3 by lionshare: 8:46pm On May 31, 2025
Irony1:
Repayment doesn't depend on economic growth bruv, stop deceiving people abeg. Portfolio investments are hedged on crude oil sales. There is no economic growth in the real sense of the word.
You seem to be contradicting yourself—if portfolios are hedged based on crude sales projections, doesn’t that indicate evidence of capacity for repayment?

Moreover, such hedging reflects an expectation of likely revenue increases, which can boost government spending—a vital component of GDP and the overall economy.

PoliticsRe: VIDEO: Tinubu Snubs Governor Sanwo-olu At Inauguration Of Lagos-calabar by lionshare: 7:11pm On May 31, 2025
Clairvoyancy:
Mehn that snubbing was real ooo..... Make Sanwo-Olu calm down for him boss oo... Make dem no give am the Fubara treatment... If he thinks he has done his second term already, and nothing can be done to stop him again, that might be the end of his political career if cares is not taken... With the way Tinubu is going, that man will still be powerful even after his tenor... His case will be different from Obasanjo and other former presidents who don't understand the principles of discipleship.l, cos Tinubu played the game so well from grassroots, such that even after he leaves office, majority of his loyalist will still regard him, reason why he's planting them in key strategic positions.... Dude might run Nigeria by proxy from bourdillon...
There’s nothing to see here; it’s likely that BAT and Sanwo had met earlier or were together before the event.
PoliticsRe: Moody’s Has Upgraded Nigeria’s Credit Rating From Caa1 To B3 by lionshare: 3:58pm On May 31, 2025
Irony1:
This is for portfolio investors. This is to give confidence that Nigeria can honor obligations once the tenor for Bonds and other securities that they get from the government reaches, they will get their money plus interest back.
This doesn't in anyway give confidence to investors in the real sector of the economy.
This view is flawed because repayment depends on economic growth, which requires lender confidence. Ignoring key metrics like revenue-to-GDP and debt servicing-to-revenue ratios overlooks essential indicators of repayment capacity.
PoliticsRe: Moody’s Has Upgraded Nigeria’s Credit Rating From Caa1 To B3 by lionshare: 3:51pm On May 31, 2025
Irony1:
The rating upgrade is not for real investments, let usbstop deceiving ourselves. This is for those who love hot money investments. The portfolio investors with this rating will have confidence in trading in Nigerian financial instruments. It will not help the country in the long run because the investments that will create jobs are not there.
So, are you suggesting that FPI into the debt market cannot generate jobs or income opportunities in the economy? Do you really think that those raising funds through instruments like commercial papers intend to just keep the money idle without investing it productively?
PoliticsRe: Moody’s Has Upgraded Nigeria’s Credit Rating From Caa1 To B3 by lionshare: 1:09pm On May 31, 2025
simonhabby:
It simply means there's more confidence in Nigeria paying back her debts. It doesn't mean the economy is good or bad or Nigeria is rich or poor, but she is more capable or more willing to pay back debts. The good thing is that we can access more loans with lower interest rate because the higher your credit rating, the lower the interest on your loans.
How can you say it's neutral to the economy, yet in the same breath claim the government is more capable and willing to repay debts? Does the government operate outside the economy?

And what does that mean to John Doe and Jane doe. It doesn’t bring down inflation or create jobs or improve infrastructure. It simply means we can borrow money and pay back when due.
Actually, it will help tame inflation and promote investments that create jobs and opportunities for both the rich and the poor.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Establishes Credit Guarantee Company With N100 Billion Initial Capital by lionshare: 12:51pm On May 30, 2025
kelechi50:
Please as good as the proposal is, my question is how to access the funds without having it's presence in all the local government areas of the country. if not it will turn to all promises cancelled (APC)
You're right to be cautiously optimistic. While the guarantee company won’t deal directly with individuals, its full implementation will incentivize banks, microfinance institutions, and other lenders to offer more loans at better rates.

Brendaniel:
Are there not other government funding agencies aside from BOI, why must you create a new one?

That is my major concern...
How else can I put it—this kind of entity must be standalone; it simply can't function within an existing organization. It’s like a bank insuring its offices, but the insurer is just another department within the same bank—conflicts of interest are bound to arise. While I typically advocate for a leaner government, this is one case where I don’t. What’s being proposed reflects global best practice.

Couldn't they have just implemented the same policy under the BOI to carry out the same function?

So because a house does not have AC, you decide to go an build a new one because of AC you can buy and put in the house, look at the way you people reason defending nonsense because of Tinubu...

'
Do you know why most banks are adopting the holding company model? The entity guaranteeing a loan must be separate from the lending institution, so if they choose to use BOI, they would have to give up their ability to provide direct loans.

SmartPolician:
How is this different from the Bank of Industry? Why do these people like duplicating functions?
This entity will reduce the risk banks face when lending to the public by guaranteeing repayment of a portion of the loan in the event of default. The primary objective is to motivate financial institutions to extend more credit to individuals & corporates in the economy. A step in the right direction I must say coupled with soon coming open banking policy I think we are in for better times in terms of access to credit.

I hope you’re living in one of the three countries because it’ll be ridiculous for you to be missing out😊

On Agriculture the Admin has been quite poor.. Its 4/10..
Power 5/10

Averagely I'd score this Admin 6/10.. more needs to be done
Yes, I agree that more still needs to be done. Fortunately, the benefits of the reforms should soon begin to take effect and reach the broader population—through lower inflation, increased job opportunities, and more affordable goods and services

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Must Change His Policies He Won’t Win Next Election In 2027 - Onaiyekan by lionshare: 7:05am On May 29, 2025
AMINDA:
All he knows is politics, not governance. And his style of politics is the shady kind with lots of dirty, underhanded tactics, nothing inspirational. The Tinubu that was sold to Nigerians is not who he has turned out to be.

If the APC government plans to rig the 2027 election, they should jettison it and earnestly begin to work for the people. With the kind of anger brewing against him across the length and breadth of the nation, rigging would be resisted. His latest strategy is to scuttle all political parties so he can run unopposed but the people will find an alternative.
You’re talking 2027, when political elites are making moves and securing positions for 2031 and 2039.

I said apc campaigned on the ground of $1 to 215 is failure, and now it's 1600, you are telling Me purchasing power.
How does that sound to hypocrites or did you Suddenly realize it's not by exchange rate
It’s clear that you misunderstand the meaning of hypocrisy—and that’s not even your biggest issue. Your real challenge seems to be processing new information. If you’re going to push a narrative, at least make sure it’s grounded in logic. Otherwise, you’ll keep struggling in vain, with nothing to show for your efforts. For the sake of our Fledgling democracy, do better.

I am throwing your hypocrisy on your faces. If you didn't see any connections, why mention the comment in the first place.
I pointed it out to correct your attempt to tie this to politics, which doesn’t make sense—especially when the naira has stronger purchasing power in this context. But it’s clear you’re trying to spin a narrative you don’t fully understand. Stop exposing your ignorance—ChatGPT is free.

They came in and made $1 to 1600 without subsidy and fuel.import and you.are here yarning rubbish. What's my business with cedis
Don’t you think you’re derailing this thread? Btw, what connection is there between the topic at hand and your claim about what APC said in the past?

Should our economy be dependent on dollar? NO

But why is it that apc hypocrites that campaigned on the back of 215 to $1 was a failure now suddenly recognizing that $1 to 1600 is not a failure any more
Same hypocrites protested when fuel was 120 but now telling us nothing is wrong with fuel being 1k

Bug shameless hypocrites
Whether at N200 or N1600, the naira has greater purchasing power than the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). This is unrelated to APC, PDP, or any government in power. Lookup the redenomination of the GHS in 2007 I think.
