ivandragon: So has the power supply significantly improved to those areas to justify a price increase?
Is it not the same epileptic power supply sane people are complaining about that it does not justify such astronomical increase in tariff?
On one hand, you agree power supply is bad, but you still try to justify a 300% increase in tariffs without significant improvement in supply. Yes power supply has significantly improved since the band rates were announced. You think I’ll be going back and forth on what I don’t know. This is a public forum if there are others with a contrary experience despite living in band A areas especially in Lagos pls come forward. The two discos also provide daily & weekly feeders update on their socials. You can look them up. |

ivandragon: Stop being a nuisance & acting dumb.
The bands had being in existence before the increase, more areas where simply added to band A.
The areas with band A already had the supposed 20-24 hours light so the increase in tariff would certainly lead to an increase in cost of production.
What justifies an over 300% increase at this time?
Some of you open your mouths to spew nonsense just because you want to show support for government no matter how stup!d and irrational the policy is. If you agree, more areas were added, don't you think that will lead to a reduction in production cost in those areas compared to running alternatives? Besides, if you were in the know, you will know that power supply has been epileptic to the former band A areas prior to the increment. They are not immune from grid collapses, you know. |

There have always been bands and electricity supply had always been supplied according to those bands (in reality, less than what it is supposed to be).
So the argument about reducing costs of production does not arise, rather, costs of production would definitely increase coupled with the increase in prices of alternate power supply options. jmoore: Whatever you are trying to prove, you will end up indicting NERC and DISCOs for cheating Band A customers when they were paying 66 naira, if you are of the opinion that the current band a is way better than 'old' band a. Do you have a problem answering questions? Why are you deflecting? Besides this, your last reply is an illogical assumption, because I can't fathom why offering a priority service at a pre-agreed rate is an indictment on either NERC or discos. |

jmoore: Band A was already having regular power supply before the tariff was increased. So why bringing in generator into the topic?
If a manufacturer was paying 66 naira per kw before and now pays 206 naira, common sense should tell anyone that the cost of production will increase. What’s the cost of the alternative to paying the N206? |

If a company employs you and you feel you are not paid enough or the conditions are not suitable, why don't you leave the place or start making efforts to leave? You will still be in the same establishment complaining every year. I see that all the time.
I'm sure OkumuOil did not get those lands for free; they invested in the lands and took huge risks to see the company to where it is today. And you, some lazy, jobless youths, want to tap into that just because your fathers gave birth to you in that locale. The entitlement mentality I see in some people is nauseating. As an investor I will blame okomu-oil management; its their job to manage the community and her expectations! They must keep all parties in the negotiation room & end all hostilities. Smart people invest in Nigeria, but smarter people with foresight also invest internationally. All over the world nothing good last forever; as far the earth remains seed time & harvest time logic. If smarter people invest abroad then dangote, ote$, elumelu and our many market movers must be very stupid considering their access to these acclaimed smarter people who can only pray have a fraction of their fortune. |

Most of these epistles are nothing short of assumptions when a man’s way pleases the gods or God people tends to assume that’s he’s a super-human who can always see the future. But that is not true? Delayed gratification; discipline ; foresight and generally being merciful to others plays a large role. |

What they did was sell treasury bills and used the money to defend the naira. You can actually use hundreds of billions of dollars to force down exchange rate to 200. Question is do you have that money? Even if you have, how sustainable is it?
Again, there's no sustainable quick fix APC already ruined things...it will take a lot of hardwork to get exchange rate to fall genuinely You’ve no idea what you’re talking about! |

How is Agriculture even a long-term solution? Does it take more than one rainy season to produce enough food to feed the country for one year? Or does the government needs years to truly fix the security issues for people to be able to farm? Can you see the results of agriculture in 2-weeks? |

We need to attract more FPI by increasing rates and then creating a back-door for local business to borrow at single-digit. Liquidity seems to have dropped in the Nafem market; increasing the rate will encourage more FPIs and I think Egypt is gearing up to do same. I think we need daily fix volume to be not less than $200m to keep rate at $/1000 or 990. These are short term monetary tools that can be executed in days. |

BabbanBura: But PO has being telling you guys the solutions nah, why asking you here?
1. Production production production. You gat to produce for home and export. So Bulabu needs to mobilise the country to production be it farming, be it industries (manufacturing), be it human labour (capital). The above will reduce imports and therefore fx demands. Excess will improve fx supply. To achieve this, he needs to fix the security and roads
2. Improve exports - be it out solid minerals, oil and gas, agro and allied products, electricity, human capital (manpower, skills etc)
3. Prosecute the past and current thieves, recover funds stashed abroad and home, make them face jail term.
4. Continue to deal with speculators, bank chiefs that aid the politicians to launder funds, the BDCs that move money around for terrorism and other vices
These are arranged in order of impacts and priority. Buy Bulabu is only tackling number 4 and you all are clapping for him. Now that the effect if 4 has worn out, naira is slumping again You people will be parroting long term solutions to a problems needs immediate solution—-think for yourself what exactly is the problem? |
