Dot1: Thanks man. But dey ought to av sent dis b4 nw. Now av wasted money booking flight to lagos. On d otherhand, like hw many days notice were u given b4 ur rescheduled date? Also if u check d bolded part of my msg it was written dere dat 02/11/2013 thru 15/05/2014. I hope dis won't be d period for d admin review dey talked abt.
you are welcome man. I think i got a notification of cancellation about 2 working days before the test date. i was supposed to write the test on a Monday and then i was wondering how i would go for the test because you hardly see vehicles moving on the roads. To my surprise, i got an email on a Thursday ( a week before...) from Prometric saying the test appointment was cancelled due to civil unrest and now rescheduled to another date, a week ahead. It was cancelled again and the second rescheduling took like forever #lol. not that far, a span of about a month. i was impatient and felt it was like a year because i needed not to forget all the vocabs wey i don cram cheesy

In your case, they've given you a time span and just be patient and study more while expecting their email. They will get back to you pretty soon. Hopefully, before this month runs out. SORRY ABOUT THE MONEY YOUR EXPENDED ON FLIGHT cry You gast sue them o grin .

Mamacita007: llooooll i can't be in all those places at the same time grin i transferred near the sin city. i went to dallas last xmas. its nice & homely unlike here that's too busy. i spend my breaks in houston & will be there for christmas.
LOL. I didn't mean you are in those locations at the same time. I saw your location on your profile and was wondering if it was Phoenix in San Antonio or Phoenix in Arizona. Got the answer now anyways grin
Yeah Dallas is a nice place but guess Houston is nicer except for the traffic grid. I was in Sugar Land sometime last month to see some of my peeps and it was like I was back in Lagos grin
I would have loved to see you when you come around during xmas but I might be taking a tour to Miami during that period. Make I go see Bahama beach... grin
See you when we see grin Stay cool.

shynepapin101: Hey, I think you should understand by now there's no short-cut to this probs you are facing. I, too would advice you take the S.A.T. Gbam.....because even for their side them high sch ppl dey do am to enter college, com-college & university.

Changing your sch might be good, but it tells them VO's one thing, you are desperate . I wanted to ask sef, hw you sounded at your interview. Desperation is easily depicted....I read PSY & from your adventure, you seem desperate.

You have to alwaz give them a reason that you are better off being here but you're amaze with the quality, infrastructure and inter-personal relationship between the professors and student. Forget class ratio, dem sef no fit cope with population wey dey naija schs...dem go senile straight.

Send me mail....but whr I go check am, here, or my email wey I use register.
I defer to the BOLD. On the contrary, changing to a better ranked school proves he's an ambitious student. Don't let us confuse this with desperation grin

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM PROMETRIC REGARDING YOUR SCHEDULED EXAM IN NIGERIA ON 11/02/2013 THRU 05/15/2014
Dear Candidate,

This message is to advise you that your test date scheduled with Prometric had to be cancelled due to the testing center being closed for administrative review. Your payment fee will be put on hold, and we will contact you in the near future to schedule a free retest.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Don't fret. It happens... Am a living witness. My appointment date was rescheduled twice in early 2012 during the civil unrest (Fuel subsidy palava) in Naija. I got an identical email from prometric and the test date was rescheduled. The only problem now is they are the one to choose a date which is convenient for them not for you.

gbopee: Please NL, which site do I go to if I want to pay my SEVIS fee and also my VISA APPLLICATION fee?
@Bold: just answered in the previous page. You don't need a site to pay visa application fee. Just walk to any GTBank close to you and make the payment - #26,400.

Visit this link http://cdn.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ to book an appointment after getting your MRV from GTB.

walako: Hello Members

I am new on this forum.I would be very glad to hear members view on MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE.Is it a good School. In the process of applying
I think it's an OK school if you are considering a school with strength in classic liberal arts education, not sure about their strength in Engineering field if you are a potential prospective Engineer... Also it's a private school located in NY; a good environs for international students and sure there are some Nigerians there. I just hope you've got the money to cope with the cost of living in New York. However, you are gonna enjoy New York City (my second favourite state in the US) grin

It's a requirement to write standardised tests. i usually have my reservations for schools that waive such standardised test(s) but in your case, you are good grin

All the best and do keep the house in the loop.

hannahmoyan: is UK N US work together?because he dont want to make any mistakes that is why he need to know all this...
He's got nothing to worry about. As far as i know, they don't run same central database. they work independently... so the fact that UK has his biometric doesn't mean automatically, US will waive the biometric. it's a new process entirely...

Luvly devin: Am new here and I would like to ask some questions 1 am 21 year old and I would like to apply to some schools in the us, I wrote waec in 2007 I was got admitted to a polytechnic that same 2007 -2009 because of too much flexing in school I graduated officially in 2010, my question is this I would like to apply as a fresher student not a transfer student, considering the year I wrote my waec to now what are my chances of getting a visa, 2 for the university to issue me an l-20 form am I to pay my tuition fees first, or just show them my sponsors bank account, 3 can I pay my tuition fees per semester and lastly for me not using my Nd result won't they hold that against me.
since you finished High school in 2007, that means you've got 6 years gap. that's a lot. From you write up, you can easily fill up 3 years by saying you did ND and i hope the course you did during ND is pertinent to what you are going for now. so what have you been doing from 2010 till date?

1. I guess you stand a good chance given your age. with a well prepared package at the embassy, you should be fine
2. It varies from schools to schools. most schools will only ask to see a bank statement upon issuance of I-20 while some will ask that you deposit some amount of money before it's given (new development). i advise you check with your school and see what is peculiar to your case.
3. Usually, tuition fees are paid per semester in most schools.
Not using your ND result in what sense?

imperiouxx: Ok, thanks. The school is asking for what seems impossible for me now. Getting my undergrad transcript in Nigeria and send it to ECE. angry angry
Thought you already had your undergrad transcript evaluated by WES. Are they picky and asking you to use ECE now? that's serious! This ASUU strike won't even expedite the process if you wanna get your transcript from the school in Naija. How much time have you got before the application deadline?

Ashigolo: hello, thanks alot for the useful information u guys have been posting. Its my first time of posting here so pls your replies will be highly appreciated. I concluded my secondary school in 2002, graduated from college of education, acocoed and university, Lasu in 200(NCE) and 2012(BSC) respectively with very good grades and am presently a batch A corp member. Am currently applying to four schs, uni texas at austin, airlington, elpaso and texas a and m uni, college station (fall 2014) for my msc/phd program and moreso, my gre and toefl exams have been sceduled for nov 7th and 16th respectively.
Pls guys, what do think about these schools as regards my chances of being admitted?
Can I use GTB master card to pay for application on applytexas and embark website?
Can a scanned copy of a transcript be used temporarily to review my application?

Thank u for ur anticipated replies
@ the Bold. I can feel your passion for Lone star state -TEXAS grin grin Perhaps you have relations there. How come all the 4 schs are schs in Texas? This might be a Red Flag. I will advise you yank off some of the schools from the list and add some schools of equal standard from other state.
All in all, you've got a good profile and I see you making headways. Take care.

OjaP: Seunolumonday,

Sorry to hear about your denial. I have been waiting for long to hear the good news. Anyways, you already know what the problem is. And just as gurus here advised, please defer the admission and go back to the embassy again. You have a good heart and someone like you deserves the best.

The VISA is yours.
You took the words out of my mouth grin
@seunolumonday, what more can I say? Consider this as a blessing in disguise. You are definately gonna get it at second attempt. Take care dear.

vitus101: Buenos dias amigos..como estas? Por favor (chai fuel don finish)
Pls I am about to apply for Msc in a 'Yankee' uni. Can any of the gurus in da house gimme a break-down of the process of application? From the selection of schools, to the exams to be written, to visa interview.

Abeg make una no refer me to Google oo

Thanks in anticipay
@ the BOLD cheesy cheesy cheesy . Na Google still sure pass for you.

Well, a quick reply while waiting for the gurus to answer you.
The first decision is the choice of school, please check page 5 to see the response I gave to someone. In addition, you want to get aid and blah blah blah...

Usually since you wanna pursue Masters, you will be doing some standardised tests - GRE and TOEFL/IELTS. Ensure you ace those tests and you stand a good chance of getting financial aid.

Next is sending application to your selected schools, Most schools require your standardised test score (sent directly from ETS), BSc Transcript (evaluated (optional)), Statement of purpose SOP, Recommendation letters, RESUME,Bank statement + an online payment fee and the list goes on. Please check with your school to know the requisite documents.

After getting the admission, the sch sends you an I-20 therein you have valuable info such as your course, duration, tuition fees for a year and blah blah blah. You get to pay a mandatory sevis I-901 fees ($200), fill a ds-160 form, make a visa payment of #26,400 at GTB and book an appointment for your interview.

Finally, you go to the embassy and claim your visa grin Isn't it easy? YEAH IT IS BUT YOU'VE GOT TO BE DETERMINED AND PRAYERFUL.

For more details ask google grin All the best.

open_era: Pls I want to ask:
1. For those in usa already, what is the average duration for completion of MSc & for PhD?

The average duration for MSc is 2 years and PhD is 4 years, all dependent on the program and the number of semester credit hours to take...

2. What were the considerations you made when choosing a state? Location? Weather? Standard of living?
There isn't a correct answer to this question because we've got different tastes and standards. You might choose a state because you've got some friends/relatives already living there and hence, settling down will be facilitated. you can also choose a place that isn't known for a harsh weather. you also want a place with a high standard but average cost of living... Most importantly is the reputation of the school you are chosen, job prospect after graduation if you wanna live/work in America and so on. So many other things to consider...

3. How much do you spend on the average monthly in usa?
This again is dependent on the State. Using my State Texas as a case study: The average should be about $500-1000, rent fees, electricity bills, internet/cable fees, phone bills, feeding and other miscellaneous inclusive...
