Ricky Rozay: But I thought students are PERMITTED to work on campus during term hours and can work off campus during holidays... Is that not the law in the US?
Correct but guess off campus during CPT or OPT

FIZIK: Just one month in the US and I had to use password help to log into my dear Nairaland.

Education is fast-paced and demanding, with loads of homework that makes me wonder if I am not gonna break down.
I understand why people rarely post when classes starts (not because they don't want to).
I am wondering how Imperiouxx et al does it... I wonder too

My suggestion based on experience:
GTBank mastercard is accepted in most payment platforms...

Be outspoken, ask for clarifications when you do not understand.
Don't think your accent sucks because there are lots of Indians and Chinese who can barely speak the way you do....

I use a calling card (African King) when i call Nigeria.
45 minutes for $5. WHAThuh

Be careful what you sign at the leasing office.
It may put you in bad rating if you don't follow through....

Off campus apartments are usually cheaper if its on the free bus route or you have a car/bike....

COOK, COOK and COOK...

Come prepared.
It takes money to settle in here no matter how you try to cut cost.
There are many side attractions, only you know your priority.

God bless Nairaland
God bless you too
1,000,000 likes but work on the bolded o... Safe bro

billyadam: Thank you babsharon, what did you think I can do? And will having and knowing someone( US citizen) boost my chance of Getting a Visa??
picked interest in your case and had to drop few lines.

On the contrary, having your sponsor from US and even a US citizen might be a RED flag. Am talking from experience. You can take your time and browse through my profile. We have identical issue as regards the sponsorship - presenting someone in the US +a US acct.

My advice just like imperious, Basharon n golden boi (Amefrica) suggested, get a local sponsor and make the person be more of a co-sponsor if you must still mention the person in the US. It's all about honesty and proving that you have a strong ties outside the US.

Hope this helps...

#Classes and assignment no go finish person for this Yankee o. Ma book dey call me again# Who's next that's getting a visa? #wink

foohard: Hello,

I am seriously pissed with Airfrance, I think people on NL should avoid them. To start with, they change boarding site and could not announce in english, they were just speaking french forgetting we that will connect flight from there. At last, one of them used his head and announced in English but seriously, I almost missed my flight and i didnt have no kobo with me.

Secondly, they are fond of not calling flight/stops (B/stop).. I wasn't angry until I said they should drop me when we got to Ottawa that I wanna say hi to my best friend, they refused and I didnt complain.

Thirdly, we got to Milwaukee, I told them to drop me that I need to advise ECE cos WES has snatched all their customers because they have better evaluation method, them still no gree. Na so I meet myself for O'Hare Int. Airpot with my wife waiting.

To cut the long story short aha, I'm now in Obama Land.. Wish all that are still working on VISA best of luck and wish all Nairalanders best of luck in our endeavors.

Thank you all for you have always been there..
Lol... Funny Foohard. The few lines I read got me worried at first like you found yourself in an imbroglio but couldn't stop laughing when I read further. WELCOME TO OBAMALAND .
All da best.

tanks
my last post still answers your question. However, the bolded is vague. YOU DON'T GET CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW. YOU DECIDE ON THE DATE. No be UK

Anyways, Lemme shed more light and hope it clears your doubts or worries. You can book an appointment before paying for Sevis fee but ensure you allow enough time for the receipt to arrive before your chosen appointment date. Also, appointment dates are always opened in a month interval. Meaning if dates will be opened on Sept 1st, what you might be seeing are dates in Oct 1st downwards. The only exception to get dates earlier is if someone eventually drops a date and you are fortunate to be online to block it.

Hope this helps... All da best.

Babs911: Can i fill in another DS-160 form and ignore the previous have filled all in the name of different school data inside?
I don't fully understand your situation but YES to your question. You can fill as many DS-160 forms as you wish but ensure you update the current application ID on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ - the site where visa interview appointment is booked.

All da best.

olarwarlay: Your's is a good suggestion too but i prefer KeepCalling because you can call any country you want with the amount you load.

You just need to check the website for the call rates to that particular country. I loaded $5 the last time and i have been using it to talk to my people in Nigeria, my Uncle in the UK and my friend in Tashkent.

You can only use your localphone.com subscription to call only the country you selected during subscription.
Thanks a lot for this handy tips omoluabi. I got the one am using now for $10 ~ (150mins) on my T-mobile line to call any country but guess yours is a better bargain. Am gonna give it a try once this one is exhausted.

Hope you are cool omo Osun now omo Texas grin

Hey my people,

Just thought I should drop some lines before I say goodbye to my Nairaland peeps still in Naija. #Una go come add to the numbers very soon#

Past few days have been hectic starting from getting a flight ticket even at an exorbitant rate and picking up my passport #na diz one wan gimme heart-attack#

I will be heading to the Lonestar State tonight and do you believe I was just fortunate to pick up my passport by 5:00pm today (an hour after the closure of work). I have been going to DHL office since yesterday but I kept hearing same news, "it isn't ready for pick up". Today, I got more worried and had to explain my plight to one of the staffs who said they are still expecting some passports from the embassy and that I should wait till 4:30pm.

I began to have mixed feelings ooo. "Hey, what if it wasn't there again, how and what would I do when I had already booked a flight?... Deep sigh"

I sha thank God o, I don collect am and the next time am gonna drop any comment on here will be in the States. Make una wish me safe trip.

I will be right back #I promise#

imperiouxx: To those guys worried about orientation....... DON'T WORRY! It's just formality. Only GA orientation is important (which I usually leave after I turned in my school policy agreement form while the meeting goes for 15 minutes break) and as a new international student, they knew what it takes to secure visa and making traveling plans.

This is not American students attending schools in America.
Thanks for the handy tips Bo$$. I got same info from a senior in my school. You know as e dey always be as a newbie naw. Body go just dey on the move and will want to leave no stones unturned grin grin grin

eedrism: OMG I HAVE TO READ ALL THE WAY FROM PAGE 285,WAS BANNED BY JUSTWISE,BUT ALL DSAME GOOD TO BE BACK ERE....CONGRAT TO BIGFRANCIS,LISADEM AND ALL OTHERS THAT GOT THERE VISAS APPROVED....AND HOUSE AS U ALL KNOW ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WHICH I KNOW GOD WILL DO IT FOR ME THESE YEAR....NOW I AM TRYING TO HEED TO THE BOSSES ADVICE ON THIS THREAD THAT SAID I SHOULD CHANGE MY SKOOL ND TAKE THE SAT AGAIN I AM APPLYING TO MSU,MANKOTA FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER AND I WAS TOLD I SHOULD REGISTER WITH EDUCTAIONUSA BEFORE THEY WILL TREAT MY APPLICATION ATALL,MY QUESTION IS THAT,DID ANYONE ONE HAVE THE IDEA OF THE REGISTRATION WITH EDUCTIONUSA? AND WHAT IS THERE MAIN ROLE IN GETTING MY VISA? BECAUSE I SAW IT AT ONE SITE THAT WITH EDUCATIONUSA CHANCE OF GETTING VISA IS ABOUT %90 SO PLEASE HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS?
Banned? Why? Did you violate any rules? Well that's by the way. Thanks for the wishes and yours too will come by God's grace.

I once attended a public orientation organised by EducationUSA @ Lagos Embassy. It's usually done every Wednesday of the week by 10am. Just walk to the embassy with an ID and tell the security agents you are going to EAC (EducationUSA Advising Centre).

You will be allowed in and you can ask questions about membership during the orinetation which is about 2 hours. I wasn't qualified to be a member as I had got admission in 3 schools already before attending and there I was told they only accept membership for fresh applicants.

Wish you success and do always tell the house about the progress of your application. I am sure if you go through all these yourself, you won't be easily intimidated when you face a VO the next time.

Find Out!:
Are ALL classes fully booked? Were you assigned a Graduate Advisor? I suggest you contact him/her NOW.
Can't you book the flight yourself and then forward the receipt to sponsor agency for a refund? The orientation programs are really important o!

@Flynbird, what's the status of your own flight ish? Hope you've paid the extra and have your ticket with you now?

@Lisadem, Congratulations bro. Wish you all the best in the US. All the prayers wey you go don fire during ramadan were answered. No forget Islam when you enter US o.lol

@Ibadan Festac MsNas, me sef just dey know say you be muslim o.....sister in islam smiley E be like say you don enter US abi? Kaabo cheesy

@Syahboy, Great scores! Oya abeg go for PhD straight. NYSC is sometimes an issue at the embassy, but I suspect they'll be too distracted with your fully-funded PhD admission at a really good school *by God's grace* to remember NYSC.lol. & frankly I do not think you need TOEFL at all! I had just a bit above your score in verbal & using that as a reason plus the fact that english has been the language of instruction all through my educational career (like all of us), I requested for a waiver which was granted. But I guess you've paid for it already so you might as well just go ahead and ace it.

@Oga Imperiouxxxx, e ku ipalemo semester. May God continue to bless you, OjaP, Webstra, BigF & everyone else contributing to this thread. School hasnt even started yet...just orientation & I'm no longer on NL as much as i used to but each time i come to this thread, I see you guys still contributing & helping others. That's really great.
Thanks Find-out. Glad God answered my fervent prayers during ramadan. Hope you are doing great and have settled in the US? #wink

@Foohard: I have same plight too ooo. My school resumes on the 26th Aug, I have 2 orientation programs scheduled for next week but yet to get a flight ticket.
