imperiouxx: Something must be wrong with them. What do they expect from students? I kick such schools ![]() |
Adroitbabz: Sir, Arkansas St Uni has d clause of workin afta a semester (for Int'l std)! Thanks sir. NOTED! now this is a proof. I wonder why... perhaps such school doesn't care about the welfare of the int'l students depending on the stringency of the clause... |
Babs911: Pls boss anything you can do I got no time again and your brotherly advice is what I think can help. Still never got your PM as well boss.just sent your an email. check your gmail box and let's get started... |
Ricky Rozay: I think Walspring Might be actually Right!!!Still not convinced because there isn't a concrete proof yet. Well, let's just drop the debate |
Babs911: Pls my oga u have not help me out concerning my issue, have not see ur PMIt's still same problem- pm alert on NL but no email in my box. Hmm... What I will suggest is to ask bigfrancis, Amefrica or imperioxx etc for my email if you are connected to any of them. Sorry I will be violating the rule if I drop my contact here. Thanks for your understanding. |
Walspring: If am not wrong i think some school own maybe instant while another school is after a semester while other school is after 2 semester so it all depend on schools but i strongly advise you to ask ur DSO or international student office. Please can you provide proof for the bolded? Thank you. |
Ricky Rozay: Right on Point!!! Wow!!! I guess maybe it varies with the kind of airport one arrives @.Yeah Ricky I won't dispute that... Rules differ in different places in the US. Wish you safe and pleasant trip in December. |
flynbird: okay.. Probably the international office is getting strict on students from indiawondering why the discrimination. Int'l students are treated equally in my school irrespective of the location. Anyway, you got the correct info now. So all the best |
shynepapin101: I know the bosses of this very forum to have being helpful, and must have done shared this before. On my behalf and others having their interviews soon, I'll like to be told how and where to get the u.s embassy prep links or advices. What do you mean by US embassy prep links That's strange... Well, you are already in the right forum. This thread has been helpful to tons of people now studying in the US.I will advise you bookmark this page on your browser and don't miss out on any page. You can also pick on some people (NLders) already in the US. Browse through their profiles and sure you will be enlightened by their experiences. #MY 2 CENT . All the best in your interview. |
flynbird: oh but there are lots of contradicting answers to this question oh.. Some people say after the first 2 semesters which is one academic yearit's actually a simple rule and not in any way vague. Int'l student is allowed to work 20hrs a week at his/her convenience. It could be immediately. (1st semester) or later. I arrived late in my school and unfortunately, all the on-campus jobs had been taken. So am hoping to get one by Spring term. How's studies? |
imperiouxx: Even one carries it in his bag (if not boarding bag).... The bag won't be reached until he's cleared at POE as US visitor. Then he can go and claim his bag many meters away.hahaha. That's even true. Well, a wise traveller should know that crucial docs should be carried as hand luggage and not checked-in at the airport. |
Ricky Rozay: Didn't they Request for your Bank Statement @ port of Entry...Just like imperiouxx rightly said, I also don't know and have not heard about presenting a bank statement at the POE. My POE was DFW airport and I was not asked to present it. I didn't even think about bringing it along. I was only asked to tender my passport+visa, I-20 and few questions were asked after which my pix and biometric were taken. I didn't spend up to a minute.#shikena. Perhaps this carriage of statement of account is a new development. I don't know. Anyway, to be on a safe side, it isn't a huge load to carry if for any reason, it's requested. When are you coming? |
frankie2K: Good Day Guys,Amen to your prayer.Nope. She can't pay with her credit card because Nigerians are not allowed to make payment online irrespective of the location. The options are either using western union or ask her to purchase a money order... |
joelin_sewa: Hello House,is its necessary you take along your sponsors bank statement when travelling? Hope they would not ask for it @ port of entryI don't think it's necessary... |
Babs911: I'm sure that's the reason for my denied because inside the form given to me its stated that the applicant shows no ties to his foreign country but he never ask me such question concerning ties or not I want to try and make it before the end of this month all I just need is pm me on what to tell the vo concerning my cousin sponsoring me. And did I need to refill another DS-160 and put my working place (First Bank) there cos I don't put it in the first place? Pls my boss reply soon so that I can make another payment today or monday. Thanksit's okay. All is well. You will get it this second attempt. Got your PM alert on NL but not reflected in my email box yet. Don't know what's amiss. Am just gonna send you another one and hope you get it and reply swiftly. Success is yours... |
@Babs911: Sorry about the delay. I must say you were denied/delayed because you didn't show strong ties to Nigeria and the answer to why your cousin was sponsoring wasn't convicing. The VO was curious about why would your cousin spend so much on you. Of what benefit is that to your cousin? The VO won't state it directly like that but a perfect/convicing response to that question guarantees a strong tie... Please work on it... I doubt if you can still meet up with Nov 4 or you write the school to give you an extension... There are still more to say to you and how to prepare for the next interview. Please send me a PM. |
bigfrancis21: See as everybody's rushing to comment to be the among the first that commented on the first page.hmmm... See kettle calling pot black You are also a victim... |
obotubong: hello house based on the last guys interview, is it better you have someone at the state your uni is so as to create ties with the foreign countryOn the contrary, it's even a RED FLAG to say you have someone in the US especially if the person is your relative. However, It's not as if they deny everybody that confirms that to them. What matters is to show honesty, credibility and strong tie outside the US - Naija (NOT STRONG TIE IN US) |
Wow! It's a new season, pray this season is filled with plenty success stories. *whispering* the first person to narrate his/her success story in this Part5 gets a free ticket to Obamaland. Speaking for Seun and Justwise just kidding o... |
winbyforce: Just got an admit at UNMC. Trying to see if I can secure some funding there, otherwise 'mba'Congrats on the admission @Winbyforce. Funding is also important because it's crazy here without any form of funding... Na to storm embassy soon collect your visa. All da best. |
Hello house, What's happening? This Spring season is kinda dull in terms reading NLder's success story. Just 1 (Mandy) so far. Make una do sharp sharp. If you are the next person to share your success story, lemme hear you say Hi Wishing all spring applicants best of luck in their forthcoming interview. To the guys who are keeping the thread alive, I hail Bo$$ imperiouxx (will still call you sir), Biggie (next available flight to Maryland) , Amefrica (#TeamNeverGiveUp), godG ( I gbadun your style, don't ever be intimidated.), Ricky, De Tus , Kunlebal ... Peace out! |
Ms Nas: Eid Mubaraq, Muslims on here. Damn, dem dey chop my share of Sallah meatLOL... Wish you same Ms Nas. I felt same way too today but wetin man go do... Had fun in my little way sha but ended the day with a quiz in a class. Unlike Naija, NO NATIONAL/GENERAL Public holiday for the eid. Hmm. I told myself again, "Welcome to the US of A". |
rawlizo: Greetings 2 all. Wana tnk y'all 4 d grt work, it shows d munificient character dat's rare dis days. I've bn getting a lot of useful tips by jst perusing tru dis thread. You pple ar wonderful. Finally took d GRE, but surprisingly fell short(294); verbal(148), quant(146). My question 2 everybody in d hux is, Is dere any hope of getting admission wit aid wit ds low scores? My CGPA is 3.78. Tho my penultimate nd final year performance was nice.First and foremost, what course you wanna study and the school(s) you are opting for...? Answers to the questions say a lot on your chances. The scores + gpa can get you admission to some Unis in the US but defintely not the top-notch Unis and to be frank, the score is too low to compete for aid. I don't know the skills or working experiences you've accrued over years. Perhaps that can compliment the low scores and hopefully, you get the aid. Advice: If you are bent on getting aid before leaving Naija, can you retake GRE? Or you just get the admission, perform excellently in your first semester and you might get the scholarship then. GETTING IT ALONGSIDE YOUR ADMISSION IS BETTER... All the best |
@Amefrica: Got your transcript this morning on bb and it's quite sad to hear your delay story. I am glad you haven't given up. It is not over until it is over. That's one of the reasons I advise people to apply early so if there's a delay, you can always take some time, tidy up the loopholes and go back to the embassy before resumption date... I definitely know how you feel right now. Remember I was once in your shoes but here I am today in the US. So overlook it and make yourself stronger for the next battle. *bitter truth* Living in the US is even far more challenging than what you face @ the embassy for a day. So you've got to be able to withstand pressure and show perseverance. Anyway, It's always worth it at the end bro. Please cheer up and start working on the statement of account NOW. *** It doesn't matter the number of times you fail/fall, what matters is accomplishing your mission in the long run *** ~ LISADEM |

dnpasion: Recieved my i-20 couple of days back and copies of my sponsor bank statement which i sent to the school for my admission processing is been sent along with my i-20 and they also stated the amount my sponsor is providing for the first year on the i-20 which is the total amount on the account as at then but now my question is, can i go to the embassy for my interview with the copies of the bank statement the school sent back along with the i-20 or i should tell my sponsor to request another recent bank statement whenever i'm going for my interview but i'm scared the account balance might not be upto the total amount it was during my admisson process and it might even get higher vice versa? Please i need some answers. Thanksdon't fret bro. Taking another statement of account of your sponsor to the embassy isn't a problem only if it shows a balance that is more than what's on your I-20. Most schools only show the exact tuition fees for a year on the I-20 without necessary saying the actual statement of account your sponsor presents. I will advise you go with the one you submitted to the school if it hasn't been long you turned it in or tell your sponsor to give a fresh account statement BUT it must be more than your tuition fees for a calender year. That proves financial capability. Rule of thumb: make it >= 1.5 x (tuition fees). Pray you meet God's favour @ the embassy. That's the KOKO. Others na formality. |
bigfrancis21: Hello Members, iyola olotu' idi. #biting my tongue sef# hahahaha. How u dey my boi? |
buzritchy: Hello NL.... Peeps. HIWish you success in your endeavours |
imperiouxx: Yes sir, I'm always available. You've got an email sir* Hwz NM? |
Tochium: The school I am processing said in severe hardship that the student may be permitted to work off campus. The ISO will assist the student in filing for that.I concur Tochium and not just in your school. However, it's a rare situation and so far I haven't seen a living witness. |

That's strange... Well, you are already in the right forum. This thread has been helpful to tons of people now studying in the US.
