GboyegaD: Congrats once again. so happy you got it and nice you didn't rehearse answers as it helped you think straight. BTW, why carry beans when you can easily get to buy in almost all African stores and even some normal grocery store? Why not pack more garri ijebu (if you like drinking it after walking in the hot sun) and egusi instead?lol. Noted @Gboyega. I actually enjoy drinking garri ijebu once in a while. Thanks buddy. What's your program like now in Dallas/Texas? Guess We should be able to hook up *@ our leisure hour* when I arrive. |

To God be the glory. Visa approved at third attempt - 1 B1/B2 and 2 F-1 at the Lagos embassy. It happened in a miraculous way as I got bizarre questions in no particular orders and I gave unprepared answers. I actually reapplied immediately after my last denial about two and a half months ago and got a date for 15th July but had to cancel it because I knew I needed to work more on home ties.... ****Fastforward**** #Before getting to the embassy# I passed the night @ a friend's house close to Obalende and woke up around 5am. The truth is I couldn't sleep very well all night as I was opening my eyes at intervals and looking the clock #Make I no go sleep 4get myself lol#. I proceeded to the embassy and got there around 6:30am. I met on the queue people that got appointment for 6:30am and I had to wait behind for my turn - 7:30am appointment. I did the usual security checks #iyam not a newbie @ d embassy so I sabi d usual formalities# ***** Fastforward***** #Now inside the embassy# I was full of confidence when I entered and it was boosted when I realised almost all the VOs were issuing visa be it visiting or student visa without much interrogation. #i just sidon dey observe# To my surprise, the approval/denial rate just took a new dimension and they started asking too many questions and would deny at the slightest mistake. #Na dia fear begin dey catch me# I couldn't hold it that I had to run to the toilet to release some gases .#Temper cool small# My number flashed on counter 1 and guess who I saw, the young dude that denied me the last time. ME: Good morning #with smile and surprise, oboi! Na u again but I knew he would refer me to anoda vo# VO: Good morning. Please pass your docs #passed# You are going to further your studies in the US? ME: Yeah VO: I interviewed you the last time right? Sorry I will have to let other officer interview you this time. You will wait for your name to be called. All the best ME: Okay with smile. Thanks #Ginger boost after the wishes from the dude# I returned to my seat waiting for my number/name to be called. After some minutes, an old woman in her 60s I guess called my name and asked that I come to counter 6. #guess that was the woman that interviewed Ricky#. Now the interview: ME: Good morning ma'am with a grin VO: Good morning with smile and she called my name VO: So where will you be studying in the US #I could hardly hear her but I figured out the question# ME: Uni Texas Dallas VO: What's your highest qualification? Me: BSc in Elect Elect Engr VO: Okay! What the highest grade you got? #I didn't hear her very well# ME: Sowee ma'am VO: Did u make a first class or second-class ME: Okay second-class Upper VO: Do your write any standardised test? ME: Yes. It's a requirement in my chosen school(s). So I wrote TOEFL and GRE. VO: What's your GRE scores and what's the highest scores you can get. #i could hardly hear her so I said please come again and She repeated# ME: Told her the scores but I didn't get the last question again. So I boldly told her I could hardly hear her. She said sorry and adjusted the microphone volume and asked for my gre scorecard #THE ONLY DOCUMENT ASKED# VO: Okay. Scores are okay. What other schools did you apply to? ME: 3 other schools and I mentioned them. #However, I didn't apply to 2 out of the 4 schools on my score card# So she asked, what about these 2 other schools? ME: Ma'am I only pre-selected them among the 4 schools after writing my test but I didn't apply to them.I had to send additional scores to other schools I later applied to... VO: With a big grin she said am glad you are honest #na here I know say this visa is mine# and you got admit in all? As if she knew. ME: I said YES #eventhough na 3 out of 4# VO: So why UTD out of all? ME: Asides from being highly ranked especially in my field of studies, I was able to contact Prof xyz in my dept who's interested in my research project and .... Cut in VO: Is okay with smile. What are u doing now? ME: Am working in an ICT firm and I have a sanctioned study leave ma'am VO: Okay okay... Looked into the computer for few seconds. (Now questions on consistency). Who will be sponsoring your education? ME: My Dad VO: What does He do ME: Told Still looking at me expecting more information on the sponsorship #remember I mentioned my brother the last time# VO: Who else will be supporting your education #here I knew she's seen my last app and I had no choice than to begin confess# ME: My brother VO: What does He do ME: Told #resides in Ghana# VO: Doesn't He have kids? ME: #Self-reproach shey I neva bleep like this?# but thank God I quickly answered that ma'am my primary sponsor is my Dad but I won't mind getting stipend from my brother. VO: Okay with grin and she said again am glad you are honest VO: Have you travelled out of the country before? ME: Yes VO: Where and she flipped through my passport, saw Ghana first and cut in before I said anything. What was your trip about to Ghana? ME: On vacation to visit my brother. This response actually buttressed my point about where my brother resides currently. VO: Do you have any relative in the US? ME: Not any more .#she whispered okay brother now moved to GH and nodded# VO: How many siblings do you have? ME: 2 siblings ma'am VO: Your brother and what does the other do? ME: Told #works in Nigeria# VO: Will She be supporting you too? ME: She's also capable financially and can support too. VO: So why did you opt for online studies, must you travel to the US? #As I wan start, she said, "Hey! Don't gimme rehearsed answer, just be straight forward"# ME: okay with smile. Yes ma'am. I will be highly motivated by one-on-one lectures and also cultural diversity is .... #she cut in... VO: That's okay with smile# She passed my gre scorecard to me, kept my I-20,sevis receipt and oda docs inside my passport and held them typing on her system. #na hia I begin dey pray to Baba God# #here comes the statement I have been longing to hear. "YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED. PLEASE PICK IT UP..." Odas na french. I couldn't hold the joy. I was just saying thank you ma'am. Appreciation to Almighty Allah, my real family (dedicated fasting for me) and virtual family - Nairaland folks starting from those who responded to my queries - BigFrancis, Anthonymighty (off NL), imperiouxx, Fitty, GboyegaD and those who I got insightful info and motivation from their posts - Olarwarlay, Yvete, Mamacita, Ojab, Kunsoft, Mike-will, Foohard, Amefrica, Kofsy, Ms Nas, Flynbird, Ricky, Babsharon, iamchux, Webstradamus, Tuxedo, De Tus, Winbyforce, justwise (honourable moderator) and others. #make u tell me if I omitted your name o# ![]() Now Lonestar state loading. Hello house, I got my visa approved at the Lagos embassy today. Sorry this is coming late. I was preoccupied in other endeavours. Thanks to Francis for informing the house on my behalf. The transcript is prepared and will be launched soon . PLEASE DON'T QUOTE! Na one kind long anecdote with plenty appreciation. |
Congratulations to the man of the moment BiggestFrancis. A kindhearted dude like you deserves nothing short of success. Happy for you buddy. Good seeing your handsome face plus awesome 6-pack... Iyam not surprised if d VO dey trip sefHave a pleasant stay in Maryland and I wish you success in all your endeavours. Cheers |
conyema12: Thank you Lisa,Don't get me wrong. I didn't say you won't be sending your Dad's statement of account. How would you proof the financial capability of your sponsor if that crucial doc is missing? I guess I understand your case now. What you need is get your Dad to endorse the affidavit of support form and send it alongside his statement of acct to the school. #datz all |
conyema12: not yet lisa I am just at the application submission stage, I just got the mail from the school after submitting the online application.Isokai. Some schools do ask for all requisite documents, financial capability inclusive before taking admission decision and sending I20 Guess your doubts are cleared now |
conyema12: Pls guys i need clarification. No @ d Bolded. Self-sponsor means your sponsorship isn't dependent on any body. Guess you are the stage of submitting a financial statement to get an I-20 form. I don't know the structure of the affidavit form you are filling but like mine, there's provision for self-sponsor where I put 'N/A' and source from others, I put 'Family' Hope this helps |
godG: Hello House(gurus)!Send an empty email to selfstudy360@gmail.com. You will get a prompt response showing links where you can download the materials. Also try to use Notefull resources and there are superfluous practice videos on You-tube. With that #You will ace it# All da best |
kofsy: hahahahahahahaha pls i dont need anymore big grammars abeg! That's the feeling dear. The words were hovering over my head few weeks before and after writing GRE but now I can hardly remember them after a year. Na #La-cram; La-pour; La-pass; La-4get# |
kofsy: Bigfrancis, pings sent to you are not delivering. whats up?I don seize his BB. To be released until further notice. He understands what am saying ![]() |
@Kofsy: Operation #goaceit# . Your scores aint that bad jawe @least it's 300+ in total though I understand why you are insatiable with the scores considering your dedicated lucubration.I felt same way too...Sure you know the next step -application to your chosen schools and I wish you all da best |
tonymeskere: hello everybody, I need your urgent advice. I was denied F1 visa on 31st of July due to my choice of degree which is associate degree. In my DS160 form I said i was single. Later on I was called upon to attend a confrence on energy renewal as the chairman house committee on power and energy.Am representing Ondo State in the parliament and ministry of youth will sponsor my trip.I was asked to fill in my DS160 form that i married which i denied in my f1 application.Though I have my marriage certificate and wedding pictures for my B1B2 visa application. My question is,are they going to check my previous f1 ds160 form or they will work on my new ds160 for B1B2? I have gotten new interview date, am 30yrs,married, working and member of Nigeria Youth parliament. This your case get as e be o. Were you actually going to the US for studies when you applied for a F-1 visa? Why the sudden change from F-1 to B1/B2 within how many weeks? The VO will want to have his/her doubts-intending immigrant cleared. That said, it's possible there is a change of marital status if you have proof to show but be mindful of the date showing on the marriage certificate. All in all, The VO has 100% access to your past application and will first refer to it before listening to your new case. #Talking from experience# GOD WILL HELP YOU. |
JFK12: where can I read your interview transcript Foohard ?tnxNewbie . Click on his name to view his profile. Scroll down and click on view Foohard's posts. There you will find the *winning visa* transcript ![]() |
JFK12: Hi house,hp everyone is having a nice weekend ? Pls clear this for me house,i need your opinion about applying for second undergraduate at the of 26,what do you think my chance will be at the embassy?tnxIt's possible as I have a friend that went for a second undergraduate but at 25, a year younger than you and He got his visa without a hassle. It balls down to how you are able to defend yourself @ the embassy by filling the gaps. I will urge you to present your case to the house. Let the gurus look into it and suggest how you will go about it. IMO, you best bet is going for M.S. Why second B.S. if I may ask? |
Amefrica: Thanks bro.. I used my Uncle's statement of account to apply.. On the I20, they put family funds.. Can I use my dad's at the embassy ?sure! With that, you are at liberty to use any member of your family - Dad, Mum, Brother, Sister, Uncle and Aunt. However, your strongest sponsors are your parents. Present your Dad's account @ d embassy if his account has a minimum of what's showing on your I-20 otherwise still go with your Uncle and prepare reason(s) why you think he will pay your fees for 4 years. |
Amefrica: On my I20, they didn't write my major completely.. They wrote it as Political Science and Government, Gener.(Which I knw they shortened the General).. My question is how do I fill it in the DS160 form ? Should I complete it or put it the way it was written by the school..? bigfrancis21: Write it in full. As in, Political Science and Government, General.Seconded. Listen to the words of Elder Biggie . It's actually insignificant since it's not a total change of course but an abbreviation. However, you don't wanna take chances.Have you received the hard copy or still making use of the scanned copy sent to you? |
Mike-Will:Bon voyage Mike. Have a pleasant stay in Los Angeles. Cheers. |
Amefrica: YAY!! This is ge'in so interesting..wow! Did you just say your school sent a scanned copy of your I-20? That's incredible! Most schools won't do it. Good for you and having it will expedite other processes. On the duration, it's not a problem. Most schools always add some months (grace period) to your intended duration of studies. Just fill whatever duration reflecting on your I-20 while filling your ds-160 On the course, that one get K-LEG o. You will have to notify them of the error before they send the hard copy to you. This your school sha no wan lose "wizkid" like you. Na em make dem dey expedite d process for you. #lol All da best |
America+Africa Congrats on the admission. Now the dream you had is coming to reality. The next one is a bigger challenge - VISA Guess you will be fine anyways as I expect you to have been studying and reading different visa interviews posted on the thread. While waiting for your I-20 to be sent, you can request the school to send your SEVIS no via email. With that you can proceed with payment of sevis I-901, fill your ds-160 and book an appointment after getting a MRV receipt from GTB... All da best |
Barka de sallah to all muslim brothers and sisters in the house ![]() |

khadee92: please how do i apply for emergency appointmentBefore you can opt for an emergency appointment, you must first get a regular date and ensure you are eligible. The rule states that you aint eligible if you have been denied a visa in the last 6 month. After getting a regular date, you will see the 'emergency appointment' on the left corner of the page, click on it and you will be requested to upload your I-20 form and sevis I-901 receipt. You also have a space to state why you are opting for an emergency appointment. You will be contacted after few days if approved, you will have to cancel the regular date you already scheduled and reschedule to an earlier date. For more details, call this number 234-94601748 or send an email to this address: lagoscons2@state.gov Hope this helps... |
ferdimako: Hope no be math. Na so you fear Math reach? *Mathophobia* |
eedrism: Am applying to another skool already anyway......But i think it might be a very challenging question at the EMbassy if i was asked why did you change your skool or sumtin or what do u thinkResponse to the question guarantees your visa the next time. Let the VO know that you have deemed it fit to take standardised test(s) and applied to better instituion(s) in terms of what they have to offer you in achieving your aspirations. There are many ways to answer this kinda question if it pops up in your next interview. However, I will advise you ensure you apply to school(s) better than the one at hand and study hard to get high scores in SAT and if possible retake TOEFL. You might even be considered for scholarship and trust me all these efforts will pay off. You can do all these before the end of this year (consider SPRING term). So your dream of travelling this year is still guaranteed. Wish you all d best |
Mike-Will:Congrats Mike! I have been waiting to hear your success story. Now you are using the money the agent should have extorted from you on drinks. #lol Have a pleasant stay in Obamaland dude. |
ifedapsy: Hi House. I've bin a silent reader of this thread for quite some time. Kudos to the Ogas. Can one defer his admission after being granted visa?sure you can. I know of my guy Anthony who is also on this thread that did it. You will just request that your school send a new I-20 showing the new term you are defering to. Without the new I-20, you won't be allowed to enter the States at your chosen POE. All da best |

i will Take the SAT By October again then and see how it goes.
