Goldfinger266: Hello Guyz. I am sure this is my first time of posting on this trend. Moreover, I have bin following the trend which has made mi become very familiar wit likely questions @ and d experience for the pre and post F1-visa acquisition to the US. I was at the Lagos embassy yesterday,August 1 for 7:30 am and I got my visa approved within 3mins.No single documents was asked. I missed my way twice while going outside. Security had to shout on me that I shud use d exit cos d visa has bin approved. Till now, is still doin mi like play-like play. Although, I had confidence in God that they would give me, but getting there I became so nervous that my head and ears wre so hotttt and coupled wit d fact that d place was not even conducive at all. I was not even conscious of what was going on the d embassy. I can't say rate if visa issuance/denial that yesterday. All I was conscious of was the fact that I carried GrACE. I will be posting the transcript very soon.

I thank God for making my dream of going to the US a reality. I thank my good friend who led mi to this trend,@bodeplot. He did a thorough job by ensuring I read relevants part of this trend. He never got tired to keep mi update. I thank chike George, Aramide, franklin Uba,Boluwatife, who are all in the US alredi for their support. I also appreciate all my coach on this trend, even though I have not bin active on this trend. I will post the full transcript today by God grace.

Fellow naira landers,I believe God will grant the desire of all that are yet to get their vis to d US IJN, PRAY WORKS. Kip praying and believe in God plz.......
You will be charged for the shout out o @the bolded #lol. Congrats man and kudos to Bodeplot (reminds me of a topic on Control course during UG) grin

Have a pleasant stay in obamaland. God bless!

Walspring: Is it SAT or TOEFL i will sit for since am going for my Undergraduate in US although my school waived it but they said when i get to the school in US i will sit for English test and Math test.. So house advise me on which one to do.huh
As a prospective undergrad student, you will be writing SAT and TOEFL/IELTS.

I hope you understand you will have to defer your admission. Send an email to your admission specialist stating your denial and your plan to write the standardised tests. A new I-20 will be sent. is the bolded condition on your I-20?

Amefrica: Hey Buddies!! I'm looking to book the VISA appointment by mid September and school resumes on Jan 4..
Werrin I learn for dis thread be say 1 cant book 4 months b4 resumption..
Homies! I wan do everything shaperly cuz NO TIME TO CHECK TIME, CHECKING TIME IS A WASTE OF TIME..
Kindly advice!
Best regards..
lol... Sharp sharp tinz. Well, that should be the least of your worries now. You can't even see dates in September now. So why the haste? However, early application is encouraged. Chill till September when you must have been guaranteed an admission and trust me, you will have many options of dates to choose.
You are right with the 120 days rule #wink

eedrism: I was Denied today @ Abuja EmbaSsy after 12hours journey all 2ru yesterday smh,I was interview by a Guy @ counter 7,
--Am so SAD Right now nd have been fasting nd praying 2 GOD---so y Didn't GOD Accept my prayershuh Why ? #sad
Sad to hear about your delay but the Bolded is blasphemy. You don't question the authority of God because He knows what is best for you.

Prayers are answered in 3 ways:
#1. Getting a YES to your prayers immediately. (What all of us want...)
#2. Being delayed in the YES when God foresees evils in your undertaken. So such prayer serves to ward off the evils but the prayer will eventually be answered later through perseverance.
#3. Not getting a YES but the prayer will be a reward in the hereafter.
Hopefully, you fall in #2...

My candid opinion is don't rush to the embassy soon. Try to guage yourself and see if you have been able to fill suspected lapses. I only advocate immediate re-application only when an applicant has all docs in tact but falls in the hands of a wrong VO. This isn't your case as you said you have issues with standardised test(s).

Please don't be dispirited and believe you will get it right some day. Again #Chill and have your case examined meticulously b4 reapplying. My 2 Naira

HotNaijaBabe: Well done guys...the fights is just making this thread longer and loooongeeerrrr....haaaah! Pity me oh! I have to start reading from part 1.. I work during the day, and its really tasking going through the threads.. I think I have to do this:

I want to apply to IIT, Chicago. For graduate studies, for spring semester starting Jan , 2014.
My Uncle will check out the school for me over there on Monday Morning.
I have registered on their site online.
I haven't started Applications proper as I haven't gotten my transcript or any of the documents..

My questions:

What other schools can I apply to in the US that will bode well with the VO's.

This is actually your choice. Will advise you check the ranking of graduate schools in your field of study. IIT is in the 70th ranked or so in ECE I guess. So you can look for schools that are within that ranking bracket and make a decision. Check www.usnews.com

Do i really need to write TOEFL?
Yes, you will need to write either TOEFL/IELTS and score a minimum of 79 in TOEFL or 6.5 band in IELTS according to the requirement on IIT website. Check the school website for the latest requirement(s)

How long does it take to get an appointment date at the embassy?
This actually depends on the period you wanna book the appointment. It's better to book ahead of time when the rush isn't much. This is a rush hour and it's pretty hard to get an early appointment date now.

Can I use my Uncle (My mums brother) as my Sole Sponsor? He lives and works as an accountant in Chicago.
DON'T EVEN TRY TO USE YOUR UNCLE who resides in Chicago. It's a red flag. I once made the mistake of using my bro's acct domiciled in Texas and I paid the price. So endeavour to find a local sponsor as that will prove strong ties outside the US

Do I need a personal Statement of account of my own?
This is actually optional since it isn't a case of self-sponsor. However, you can just take along if you so wish...

I promise to read from Part1- 4 every chance I get. But I will also appreciate information from anyone going for grad Studies in Chicago or even IIT.... Thank you.
please do if you can. It helps a great deal and makes you more confident.

Hope this helps...

Hi Everyone, just like Lajupet, iv been a silent observer on this thread but i keep reading through daily even though i got my visa last month. I have learnt a lot from this thread and it did help prepare me and boost my confidence for my interview so i figure its just fair to post my experience too. First i got my date miraculously. I was pressed for time not because school was resuming anytime soon but because i needed to know my fate(visawise) on time
... Guess you are still typing... huh

a1jnrinc: Thanks for your response bro... Very much appreciated.... I would definitely forget about going to a community college. Do you know of any affordable public university that would suffice. Also talking about closing the gap between my studies.... What do you suggest ?? I have worked in 2 companies and can get recommendation letters etc. I am just trying to plan in order not plan to fail. Thank you.
Ricky has spoken well and to answer your question on affordable schools, you will be the one to do your homework yourself as nobody here knows your financial capability. You might wanna try these sites - www.usnews.com and www.msinus.com. Also make google your bossom friend. It helps a great deal when you do the research yourself.

On closing your 8 years gap, over to Bigfrancis! He does that best...

@Kunsoft:
This is disheartening but don't give in hope of schooling in the US and ultimately, achieving your aspirations in life.

I actually thought you would be given in your 4th attempt after you said you inquired from the VO in your 3rd attempt why She denied you and She said insufficient fund. Thought you would have it corrected and the visa would be issued to you easily. #My opinion sha#. What other things transpired again this time?

Two things to keep you alive:

#1 que sera sera ~ what will be will surely be no matter how much we try.

#2 the fact you are HERE is a pointer to the fact you will get THERE. The only difference is 'T' which stands for Time. So believe in God's time which is the best

bodeplot: My question is on ds-160 form, and is dis, there is a section of d form askin if I av make travellin plans?wat u do advice I pick? Yes/No,

If i sey yes,it will ask me to fill wen i will arrived n b departin, d airline i wil use and also other travelin details.

Meanwhile,I av nt gone for interview not to talk of making travelin plans wit airlines.

Pls house, is it YES or No?for pple dat av filled dres or pple in US alwedy..thanks in advance
Bros, that question on the ds-160 isn't a determinant for the visa to be issued. Just say NO and save yourself the worries. However, you will need to put your intended date of travelling which obviously should be some days/weeks before the resumption date on your I-20.

Success!

HotNaijaBabe: Oh god! I can't believe you guys are for real. An Angel must have led me to this thread, I swear...lol.
Thanks a lot. So, are you in Illinois right now? And how did you manage to do all the processing yourself?
Nope. Am not in Chicago now and am not even attending the school. I got admission in Texas state which I find more appealling. However, am indebted to IIT considering their swift responses to my emails and different packages sent to me in Naija.

Doing it youself is pretty simple but you've got to devote your time and energy to it. Make google your friend and also make the school website a bookmark on your phone or laptop.

Start by sending an email to the admission office (you will find the contact on the school website) by showing your interest and the course you intend to study. You can even ask for your program package to be sent to you and surely it will be delivered to you.

Write the requisite standardised tests. In my case, I wrote GRE and TOEFL. Start an online application and upload other documents e.g SOP, LOR (2 from lecturers/employer), Institution Transcript(s) directly from your institution (no evaluation agencies involved), and so on.

You've got to take it one step at a time. That's just an overview. When you get to the bank of the river, you will know how to cross it.

#I rest my case

HotNaijaBabe: Oh thank you so much.. I am an avid reader so I will read from Part 1.. I will read it like a novel..Lol.

I know I will be needing GRE, TOEFL and IELTS materials cos from the little I have read on this thread, I know I have to write one or two of these exams..I'll appreciate if anyone can drop materials for me : valiatta1886@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.
Sure that's a wise move. Since you are going for grad studies, you will need to write GRE and TOEFL/IELTS. These are sure requirements for your chosen school IIT. I got admission to study Telecommunications and Software Engineering in the school and I did all processings by myself. So feel free to ask questions and answers will be provided if within reach.

To answer your question now, send an empty email to selfstudy360@gmail.com and you will get an immediate response showing links where you can download the stuffs.

All da best in your endeavours.

Morris: I was denied at us embassy abj today dis hw it went:

My current employer a compan is sponsorin me so he ask two questions: so ur employer will pay for ur 4yrs? and I said yea, and he asked again so wat do u do for dem? I told him am quality control analyst and explaind my duties but he stil asked same questn again and I gav him same ansa. Dat was where I made a mistake cos I found out he was trying to knw wat de company benefits frm me for sending me for de program and he was de only one interviewing all of us at de time he got close to my turn he startd denying ppl and drinkin water and I tink his was gettin tired. Dats all he asked.
Na soo
So sorry to hear about you delay Morris. I have been looking forward to hearing your success story.

Don't be deterred. It could be a blessing in disguise. Apparently, the VO was curious and wanted to know why your company will spend so much on you for 4years. THOUGHT YOU PRACTISED THIS A LOT EVEN ON THIS THREAD.

#lesson: when the VO keeps reiterating a question, be observant as your response is a determinant.

Hope it isn't late for you to reapply. If no, please reapply and practise very well. If yes, email your int'l advisor for possible deferment till Spring (if your school/Dept allows intake for the term)

All da best Morris.
