The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari has been impeached. Maigari was impeached by eight votes to five of the 13-man Executive Committee as members reconvened to review Nigeria’s participation at the just concluded World Cup in Brazil. Last night (Wednesday), the embattled NFF President made spirited effort to shift the Executive meeting that he scheduled, citing ministerial directive. But, the Special Adviser to the Minister, Justice Joffa, had dismissed Miagari’s words when contacted by Prompt News. A communiqué issued by the Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, Muazu Suleyman reads in full, “ The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation met at the NFF Secretariat, Abuja on Thursday, 24th July, 2014 to review situation after the vacation of Court Injunction as well as the resultant lifting of suspension by FIFA, and resolved as follows: 1) The Committee expressed deep and very sincere appreciation to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR as a person, and the Federal Government as a body, for massive and continued support to the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Teams. 2) After thorough and exhaustive deliberations on the uncalled-for secrecy surrounding all financial dealings of the Federation and failure to call meeting of the Executive Committee for the past eight months, during which so many weighty decisions on Nigeria football had been taken by a small cabal within the Board, the Executive Committee passed a vote of no confidence on the NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari. 3) In view of the above, the Committee approved the immediate dismissal of Alhaji Aminu Maigari, from the NFF Executive Committee on grounds of financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration. 4) The Committee resolved to mandate the 1st Vice President, Chief Mike Okeke Umeh as Acting President, to preside over the affairs of the Federation, pending the composition of the new NFF Executive Committee after the elections of Tuesday, 26th August, 2014. 5) The Executive Committee commended world football –governing body, FIFA and the Confederation of African Football for its keen interest in the development of Nigeria football and pledged that the country will continue to abide by the dictates of FIFA and CAF Statutes and the FIFA –approved NFF Statutes. 6) Executive Committee thanked Nigerians from far and near for their patience and understanding during the crisis period and reiterated that concerted efforts are geared towards the development of football in Nigeria. The lawmakers have moved to impeach the governor, Tanko Al-Makura The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has directed the state Chief Judge, Suleiman Dikko, to set up a panel to investigate Governor Tanko Al-Makura, accused by lawmakers of committing impeachable offences. State lawmakers launched impeachment proceedings against the governor last week, accusing him of 16 offences. A seven-man panel to be named by the chief judge will examine the charges. The directive to the chief judge was issued by the speaker of the state assembly, Musa Mohammed, (PDP – Nasarawa Central), after a motion moved by the majority leader Godiya Akwashiki (PDP), representing Nasarawa Eggon West constituency. The motion, which was supported by Mohammed Baba Ibaku (PDP), representing Udege Loko constituency, was unanimously adopted by the 20 PDP lawmakers in the state assembly. The motion was however rejected by all four All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the house. The investigative committee is expected to report to the House within seven days. For months, Mr. Al-Makura, who is a member of the APC, has been embroiled in controversy with the PDP-led state assembly. The lawmakers moved against the governor after the impeachment of the governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, last Tuesday. The opposition APC accuses the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan of being behind the gale of impeachments against its governors, allegation the ruling party rejects. On Wednesday, the Nasarawa lawmakers arrived at the assembly with heavy security around 6.30am, and began sitting at about 10am for about 15 minutes before departing to Abuja. http://m.premiumtimesng.com/?p=165408

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday named the former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Osita Chidoka, as the new Minister of Aviation. He also named a former lecturer at the University of Abuja, Dr. Suleman Abubakar, as the Minister of National Planning and Deputy Chairman of the National Planning Commission. Jonathan made the announcement after the swearing in of the two new ministers shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting. The President also named Deputy Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi as Chidoka’s successor in the FRSC. He urged the new government officials to ensure that they leave their footprints in the offices they were deployed in. On Oyeyemi, Jonathan said he decided to appoint him from the commission in order to ensure stability. This, he added, was a clear departure from what had been obtainable in the FRSC since its inception when its heads were appointed from outside the system. http://www.punchng.com/news/chidoka-named-aviation-minister-oyeyemi-becomes-frsc-boss/? |

Fire service officials averted what could have been a tragedy at the Aminu Kano International Airport last night as they scrambled a response to a sudden fire that caught a fuel tanker feeding a Turkish airlines aircraft, a witness has said. The tanker was however burnt to ashes while the aircraft, an Airbus 340, which was to airlift passengers from Kano to Istanbul, was partly damaged. The flight was subsequently cancelled with the passengers, most of whom had arrived the airport, disappointed. Garba Shehu, the Media Consultant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who was travelling with his family, told PREMIUM TIMES the aircraft was saved from being completely burnt following a quick decision by officials to hurriedly tow it away from the burning truck. Mr. Shehu said, “The Airbus 340 aircraft which had the burning truck under its wings made a miraculous escape following a decision to tow it away from the fire just in time before the fuel-laden tanker burst into a towering flame. “The flight taking my family and I, among many other passengers to Istanbul from Kano was cancelled a short while ago following indications that the aircraft, even though not destroyed, was partly damaged on its wing. “Fire engines at the airport emptied their contents without any serious impact on the raging fire, which burnt without let until it had consumed the oil tanker.” The cause of the fire remained unknown as officials of the airport and other aviation authorities could not be reached this morning. Officials of Turkish Airlines could also not be reached as at the time of this report. PREMIUM TIMES recalls that Kaduna airport was temporarily closed on April 20 after fire ravaged the airport’s control tower, completely destroying the facility. Flights only resumed a day later at the airport after a mobile control tower was brought in from Abuja. Authorities said at the time that investigations had been commissioned to determine the cause of the fire. The result of the investigation is yet to be made public. http://m.premiumtimesng.com/news/165393-fire-at-kano-airport-aircraft-damaged-fuel-tanker-burnt-to-ashes.html?
