PoliticsTimi Of Ede Endorses Aregbesola For Second Term by LMAyedun(op): 8:24pm On Jul 08, 2014
I’m in politics to serve, Aregbesola says.
——————————————

The Governor of the State of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has said he joined politics because of his desire to serve.

The governor stated this at the palace of Timi of Ede, Munirudeen Lawal, during a political campaign to Ede Federal Constituency on Tuesday. The Ede monarch also endorsed Mr. Aregbesola’s second-term bid saying “the people of this state will make sure you come back to continue the developmental stride.”

Mr. Aregbesola, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said while others have no ideas of what to do with power, he thinks about policies and programmes that would positively turn the fortunes of the people.

He said that a holistic analysis of his administration’s programme would reveal that his government has treated the people and various political districts in the state equally.

He said the Ede Constituency supported his governorship ambition in 2007 by voting en mass.

According to the governor, the Cocoa Industries in Ede would soon be rejuvenated as a government delegation had gone to China for the purpose of purchasing new machines for the industry.

“Our administration has treated the various political districts equally, without favour of sentiment,” Mr. Aregbesola said.

“Ede has been supportive of our ambition and government. Without the votes of Ede North and Ede South Local Government Areas, I would not be governor. Without these two local governments we would not have the two members of House of Representatives and one member of House of Assembly.

“Don’t let the opposition tell you lies because that is their stock in trade. Ask them to tell you the programmes they have for the people. But we know they have none. What we have done in this state in less than forty months surpass what they did in seven years both in quantity and quality.

“As we speak, the Chairman of Ede Cocoa Industries is in China on how to get brand new cocoa processing machines. I assure you that this is just the beginning of good things in Osun.”

The governor listed some of the achievements of his government in the federal constituency to include: rehabilitation of 21.3km Ede township roads; construction of 7.3km local government roads in Ejigbo LG; construction of 7.7km local government roads in Ede South LG; construction of 10km local government roads in Ede North LG; construction of 8.5km local government roads in Egbedore LG; and rehabilitation of 8.9km Abere-Ojoro-Yidi Road.

Others are total overlay of Royal Hotel Road, Ejigbo; completion of a Government High School in Ejigbo; AUD Government Middle School, Ejigbo; Seventh Day Adventist Government High School, Ede; L.A Government Middle School, Agbongbe, Ede; L.A Government Elementary School, Obada, Ede; a total of 1, 941 tablets distributed in the Federal Constituency; 561 tablets distributed in Ede South LG; 324 tablets distributed in Egbedore LG; 669 tablets distributed in Ejigbo LG; and 393 tablets distributed in Ede North.

Mr. Lawal, while giving his royal blessings, commended Mr. Aregbesola for the massive work going on in the state.

The monarch stated that the governor, having given a good account of his administration in the first term, deserved to be re-elected to continue the work.

“You have performed very well in your first term. The people of this state will make sure you come back to continue the developmental stride,” he said.

“With the people supporting you, your second term is definitely assured.”

PoliticsBreaking: 63 Abducted Borno Women Escape From Boko Haram by LMAyedun(op): 9:48pm On Jul 06, 2014
The women regained freedom as captors left to attack the military.

Some 63 out of about 70 women abducted in Borno State by suspected Boko Haram gunmen last week, have escaped from their captors, security sources and witnesses said.

The women managed to regain their freedom as their captors mobilised out of their hideout to attack military and police formations in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, on Friday night and Saturday morning, according to security sources.

Officials of the Borno State vigilante group were the first to hint journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, about the escape.

“I have just received an alert from my colleagues in Damboa area that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home. They took the bold step when their abductors moved out to carry out an operation”, said Abbas Gava, an official of the Vigilante group.

“We don’t have the details of their escape yet, but we believe God gave them the opportunity at the time the insurgents came in their large numbers to attack Damboa where about 12 soldiers, five policemen, over 50 Boko Haram members and unspecified number of civilians were killed yesterday (Saturday).”

Mr. Gava said about five women and two girls still remain under captivity. One of the women is said to be a nursing mother.

A top security officer in Maiduguri, who asked not to be named, confirmed the escape to PREMIUM TIMES.

“There is no doubt about your report; the women and girls were able to escape,” said the source. “I guess it was during the time the gunmen were attacking Damboa; left behind just some few men to watch over the women, but the women took advantage of an opportunity when the guys were dozing off, and bolted away but quietly.

The security source said the women who mastered the terrain were able to return home, while some wondered to the Borno State borders with Adamawa state.

Those at the border area were taken into safety by soldiers in Gulak town until arrangements were made for them to be returned home.

The Borno State police declined to comment on the report.

The news about the abduction of the women came to public notice almost a week after they had been taken by suspected Boko Haram gunmen who attacked the villages of Kumabza, Dagu and Yaga on the 12th, 13th and 14th of June.
