PoliticsStella Oduah Absent At FEC Meeting Today by LMAyedun(op): 11:28am On Oct 23, 2013
Embattled Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Oduah, was on Wednesday conspicuously absent at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Oduah is currently in the eye of the storm over the purchase of two bulletproof cars for her by the Nigerians Civil Aviation Authority. The vehicles are valued at a whopping $1.6m (about N225m).

Many stakeholders had been calling for her sack or resignation while the Presidency had so far kept mum on the matter.

State House correspondents who had resolved to take up the matter with the minister before or after the FEC meeting were disappointed as she failed to show up at the time the meeting started a few minutes after 10am.

LOL!! grin
PoliticsPolice, ICPC, EFCC Lead In Corruption Index – Report by LMAyedun(op):
Anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies have ironically been named as the most corrupt agencies in Nigeria.

According to CLEEN Foundation, these agencies are the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), with the police ranking  top in corruption among the agencies.

This finding was contained in a  2013 National Crime Victimisation and Safety survey conducted by the CLEEN Foundation in collaboration with the Macarthur Foundation.

Ms. Kemi Okonedo, the  executive director,
CLEEN Foundation, while presenting the result of the survey, said that the findings are not meant to witch-hunt any organisation but is aimed at tracking and reducing crime rate in the country.
She said the survey was conducted with 11,518 respondents drawn from all the states of the country. “The findings of the survey showed that bribery and corruption among government officials in Nigeria remain high. Nearly one out of every four respondents admitted having paid a bribe or having been asked to pay bribes by government officials before services could be rendered to them.

“The 2013 survey also showed that bribery and corruption among public officials such as police, customs officers, court personnel, tax officials, anti-corruption agencies and PHCN employees were higher in Rivers, Borno, Cross River, Niger, Gombe, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Anambra and Kwara states. The lowest incidences were recorded in Katsina, Ogun and Akwa Ibom states.”  She also shed light on the experience of victims of rape, domestic violence, robbery kidnap and murder among others.

Federal government agencies with their officers’ propensity  to collect bribes include:  police – 33%, immigration – 26%, ICPC – 25%, customs -24%, PHCN – 23%, EFCC- 23%, FRSC- 20% and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence officials (NSCDC) – 19%

Tax/revenue officials – 18%, municipal/ local government councillors  -18%, State Security Service (SSS) – 18%, National Assembly members – 17%, local government officials – 16%, lower court officials – 15%, higher courts officials – 14%, and lecturers and professors of tertiary institutions make up 10%

Another 10% include post office officials, gas/petrol attendants, prison warden/ officers, primary and secondary school teachers and doctors and nurses.

Attempts to reach the Force PRO, Mr. Frank Mba, were unsuccessful as he is said to currently be out of the country.

PoliticsPDP Caretaker Officials Attacked In Kano by LMAyedun(op): 7:09pm On Oct 21, 2013
The police have already arrested four suspects linked to the attack.

Unidentified persons on Monday attacked officials of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, Kano State chapter.

The Public Relations Officer of the committee, Ja’afar Bello, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano.

He said that the incident happened at 1:30 p.m. when the committee was holding a meeting.

He said the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons and injured four persons during the attack.

“We were about to finish our meeting when the attackers suddenly invaded the venue.

“Some of us escaped by jumping down from the third floor of the three-story building,” Mr. Bello said.

He said it was by the miracle of God that the committee members escaped being lynched.

Abubakar Rano, a journalist who sustained a minor injury during the attack, said that he jumped from the building when the attackers came.
When contacted the Police Commissioner in the state, Musa Daura, confirmed the incident.

He said four suspects were arrested and being questioned at the Command’s State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“’Our people have arrested four persons in connection with the incident and are being investigated,” he added.

The Kano PDP caretaker committee was appointed by the national leadership of the party against the interest of the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is a member of the Abubakar Baraje-led faction of the PDP.

PoliticsCorruption Trials Against Ex-Governors withdrawn by LMAyedun(op): 4:14pm On Oct 21, 2013
The newly-appointed Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Justice Ibrahim Bukar, today in Abuja withdrew the case files of former Nigerian governors undergoing trial for corruption.

Justice Bukar requested all judges in the FCT to return the case files of several of the governors, some of whom are reportedly being considered for ministerial appointments by President Goodluck Jonathan.

A source at the FCT High Court said the new chief judge did not state why the case files were being withdrawn, but it is being suspected that he plans to do away with the cases.  Some of the cases were filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since 2007.

Since coming to power in 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan has boosted and encouraged corruption in several ways, including through declaring he would not publicly declare his assets; refusing to push actively for action against corrupt officials, especially within his government; and pardoning a corrupt former governor, DSP Alaimeiyeseigha.

Several officials at the EFCC have also confided in SaharaReporters that Mr. Jonathan has directly interfered in their work and stopped several high profile investigations on corruption by asking the EFCC chairman to not investigate some of the most corrupt public officials in his administration.

A source at the EFCC noted that the case of former Governor Jolly Nyame had reached an advanced stage, with nine witnesses already called, lamenting that the case file is among those withdrawn today.

In recent months, President Jonathan has repeatedly declared corruption in Nigeria to be “exaggerated.”
Only last week, it emerged that his Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, compelled a struggling agency in the Ministry to purchase two overpriced luxury motor vehicles for her use at an incredible cost of N225million.  The public uproar that has followed the story has been ignored by Mr. Jonathan.

MRbrownJAY: you must not know how this biz work.......a promoter/venue hires the artist for a show on a particular date, for a set performance fee. that artist has nothing to do with how much the entrance ticket will be or how many people will be in attendance. the artist gets paid his performance fee whether the house is empty or full. the only one who lose (or gain anything) is the promoter/venue. the only one who has anything to do with the seating arrangement is also the promoter/venue.

PoliticsJonathan’s Motorcade Rescues Accident Victims by LMAyedun(op): 3:46pm On Oct 20, 2013
The president’s convoy helped the injured in Ekiti state

The advance team of President Goodluck Jonathan’s entourage, returning from Ado-Ekiti on Sunday rendered emergency rescue services to accident victims on the Lokoja-Abuja highway, witnesses say.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reported that the accident, which occurred at Okpu village, few kilometres after Lokoja, involved two cars carrying 11 people.

A Nissan Almera car with registration number AH 47 KAA going to Lokoja and a Honda Accord model with registration number BG945BWR en-route Abuja, were involved in the accident.

The two vehicles had a head-on collision with serious impact, causing varying degrees of injury to the occupants of the vehicles.

The accident occurred few minutes before the presidential motorcade came by the scene, NAN reported. Mr Jonathan was in Ekiti state over the weekend on an official visit.

As the convoy arrived, the president’s security team rescued victims trapped in the two cars.

The front door of the passenger seat of the Nissan car was axed before a middle aged woman, who was inside, could be rescued.

The medical team, led by Dr Aliyu Usman of the State House Clinic, rendered emergency medical treatment to the victims, aided by two nurses.
Later, a team of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, led by one Mohammed Haruna, arrived the scene of the accident about 30 minutes into the rescue operation.

The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, in an FRSC rescue van for further medical attention.

An eye witness, Aliyu Sadiq, said that the accident was caused by speed, dangerous driving and the poor state of the road.

The eye witness, who is a commercial bus driver, said he plied the road on daily basis, and that there was hardly a day that an accident is not recorded on the road.
