Qelvin: Let's put it this way, maybe you can see the bigger picture better...I'm on my own, you come to my house and attack me relentlessly, I decided to strike back...but seeing that you are stronger than me, I decide to hurt you back where you are most vulnerable, maybe attacking your loved one and taking hostage of what you love most, you now have what is mine and I have what is yours, remember I didn't start the trouble...you did, so how I'm I in the wrong for taking a stand in a dire situation at that, to save my own head? will neutrality mean anything to someone who wants to survive but can't be left alone? you already know the answer to that question Whatever your view of the invasion of the Midwest, it turned out to be a wrong move as most military analysts have concluded. The Federal Forces who were initially dilly-dallying woke up and focused. Secondly it turned the hitherto neutral Midwest and Southwest against Biafra. |

Ngozi123: They didn't 'slack off'. They couldn't arrest Okpara until the Archbishop had left; it's as simple as ABC. Not all of those arrested were executed, Femi Fani-Kayode's dad was one of them. Madam, which rule was there that the Archbishop couldn't witness the arrest of Okpara? Secondly, did the Archbishop pay a surprise visit to Okpara? You mean they were not aware he had plans to visit Okpara and therefore postpone the operation till a more conducive day? You mean you cannot see how watery these excuses are? I shouldn't be surprised though. |

Ngozi123: The fact that the coup in the Eastern region occurred a bit later than the other ones was a major reason why it failed there. This was due to unforeseen circumstances. I understand. This is still the same reason why Igbos are busy "developing" other regions while ignoring there's. So some Igbo "patriots" decided to focus on offing other region's leaders while they slacked off on doing there's in abi? Weddone! |

Ngozi123: Dennis Osadebay, the Igbo Premier, was placed under house arrest and Michael Okpara, the Premier of the Eastern Region, was also arrested. However, Okpara's arrest was delayed by the fact that he was hosting the Head of State of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios. Had it not been for this, he would have been arrested much quicker and maybe Ironsi wouldn't have had enough time to send Lt-Colonel Ejoor to the East to quell the coup there. You see, Ironsi was already in Lagos when this happened and so was aware of the coup going on there. Essentially, it's almost impossible to plan these things to perfection.
Also, the main coup plotter in the East, Lieutenant Oguchi, was one of the soldiers who advocated for a bloodless coup so he may have been apprehensive to kill them so quickly. I honestly believe that had Ifeajuna caught wind of this, he would have ordered them to execute them immediately but this couldn't happen because there wasn't enough time. Many of the other military leaders/politicians were arrested before they were executed. Nice story. |

makavele: I repeat, in the hands of a skilled shooter e.g. a Marine, or SWAT team, a 9mm glock can kill you at 900 meters !!!
Accuracy might be reduced; but you will definitely be hit !!!
I have seen people hit 300m plus with both eyes closed If you define effective range as distance that a shooter can deliver a hit to a man sized target, then the maximum effective range for a 9mm round fired from a handgun is about 1800 meters. If that sounds like a ridiculously long distance, that's because it is. It takes into account match grade ammo fired from a perfectly maintained weapon being fired by a skilled marksman in a stable shooting position aiming at a motionless target at a known distance in perfect environmental conditions. Average effective range for an average shooter with average equipment on an average day? Significantly less. Honestly that's just too many factors to account for. A reasonably skilled shooter with a 9mm handgun should be able to put rounds on a man sized target out to a hundred yards on a practice range, 200 yards tops if the gods are smiling. In real word, life or death self defense shootings it is not uncommon for shooters to miss man size targets up to 70% of the time within a few yards distance. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-average-effective-range-of-a-9mm-round-fired-from-a-handgun |

Qelvin: Bros if there were atrocities perpetuated by the Biafrans in the Midwest, then it would surely have been brought to the limelight and widely documented!! I'm not denying the fact that Biafran troops didn't commit inalienable acts on the Midwest civilians, but it would never have been on the same scale with the Federal side whose atrocities sure made lots of heads, including the most apathetic parties turn their attention for once on the real events of the war I have already provided you with a page. If you are really a truth seeker, you can do more digging. Now ask yourself, why have you never seen footages of Victor Banjo in action till his execution either as still images or video? Even his execution had no press coverage. Then you are wondering why the International Press did not make noise about Biafran atrocities in the Midwest? Come on. |

Qelvin: nice rebuttal, but you still haven't answered my question, definitely the oyinbo people that documented these massacres couldn't have loved the Biafrans more than the Nigerians if both armies committed atrocities. Expectedly, the Oyinbos followed the Federal Forces. I would not have expected them to follow the Biafran Liberation Force heading into the Mid-West and enroute to Lagos (as if...). In any case, it took the Midwesterners time to voice out which is typical of most people who have had traumatic experiences; especially when they hear their tormentors moaning about their woes. |

Qelvin: How come the Federal massacres are so much more documented in contention that it spiraled an international outrage after the war? So much that documentaries were made in those areas affected by Nigerian massacres, not denying that Biafrans didn't commit atrocities, but the chances that the Nigerian side committed atrocities at a more horrendous scale can't be overemphasized! There are very limited if credible reports of Biafran genocides. ...maybe because some people are better at crying out than others. |
Politics › Re: January 15,1966 Coup: Conversation Between Lt. Col Pam And His Murderers by logica(m): 11:46pm On Jan 15, 2017 |
Qelvin: Biafran troops did commit atrocities albeit in much more controlled situations than the Federal side who just ran amok and slaughtered 700 innocent civilians Asaba, and that's not including the various undocumented incidences of Federal atrocities in areas like Ogwashi ukwu, Agbor, Iselle Ukwu etc...those people still recount those tales of horror till these day. At Abudu, over 300 bodies, including those of children, were found in the Ossiomo river as the Biafrans withdrew. [46] Similarly, on 20 September 1967, 'there was a mass killing of non-Ibo MidWesterners at Boji-Boji Agbor', and on 23 September, 'non-Ibo speaking MidWesterners were apprehended by rebel soldiers at Asaba, Ibusa and Agbor and taken [in two lorries] to a rubber plantation along Uromi-Agbor road and massacred'.[47] More here: http://rethinkingbiafra..com.ng/2012/10/biafran-war-crimes-horror-in-midwest.html?m=1I had read about these massacres on other websites as well. You may search if you want to know more. And recall, all these occurred before the Federal troops led by Murtala (who happened to have his origins from Auchi) descended on Asaba and environs. |

Qelvin: do you know a platoon size of just 80 Biafran soldiers were responsible for the biggest ambush ever in the civil war at Abagana? That I will not doubt (especially with documentary evidence) An ambush is what it is. Book Haram had been using this element of surprise and knowledge of the terrain for years against the Nigerian Army. Just know that the story of about 180 soldiers holding forte at a bridge at Ore is no moonlight tale. It is historical fact. |

Qelvin: Element of surprise can make a small force look spartan buddy...for the umpteenth time the Midwest region was a buffer zone and was deemed neural at the outbreak of hostility, so it's very much conceivable that the region would have fallen very easily to the Biafrans cause it wasn't heavily defended, the Biafrans SURPRISED the Federal side as they didn't even see the invasion coming, and when it did the Nigerian side were pretty much in hasty retreat, the Biafrans had the momentum of surprise, speed, and a degree of good Intel...that was why the entire Midwest crumbled like a pack of wild cards when the Biafrans struck, and such was the success of the invasion that the Biafrans covered far more ground that they even anticipated, Guy, you can make things up sha. Mid-West succumbed easily because of the collusion of the Delta-Igbos. Initially the non-Igbos from the Mid-West were ambivalent towards the Biafrans until the Biafrans started a reign of terror of r@pe and murders and general ill-treatment; culminating in mutiny against the Biafrans and eventually leading up to anarchy in the region. |

The story is just as equivalent to the one some old folk who fought in the Biafran war used to brag to us about...like how he single handedly halted a whole battalion of advancing Nigerian troops with his well timed ogbunigwe...only difference is he always told this tale whenever he was in his alcohol induced state of mind. If you know about military strategy and trickery, you will know how a small force can hold much bigger numbers at a BRIDGE. This is standard military tactic; added with the trickery where you make it appear your numbers are larger than actual. Deception. |
