Pastor AIO: I myself came very reluctantly to this conclusion after engaging with NL threads, studying history, and looking deep within myself and at others around me.

Alas I have no advice for you. I suspect that we are on the cusp of period of great turbulence in human history. The combination of the internet (think of the effect of the printing press in Europe), the rise of recalcitrant fundamentalism in many religions, the exhaustion of many of earth's resources, The strain on the global financial system, and other factors all point towards military conflicts. I still have a shadow of a hope that I will be wrong, but my cold logical eyes says that this is what will be the case.

What will emerge out of the period of turbulence is anybody's guess.
PastorAIO, I must apologise for the first impression and meeting I had with you. I was a bit arrogant and thought that you were probably one of those fraudulent preachers here on Nairaland. I have however, learnt a great deal from your posts. Thank you very much.

Concerning the issue of the mass delusion in religion, conflict and human future, I believe that there is still hope. My trip to the country of Malta gave me hope. These people do not care about wars or controlling other people. The maltese people are very calm and love to mind their own business. It is a sleepy island for 8 months but busy in the summer with tourists.

Although I saw firsthand racism at the airport when I got there (white on black), most people in Malta are just relaxed. There is no police on the streets and everybody minds their own business and are extra helpful if you ask for help. Lagos is 10 times more beautiful than Malta which but the people of malta and the peaceful atmosphere is what makes it nice. Once the common man can feed his family, house his family, provide healthcare for his family and send them to school, a country is at peace. People can do what they want. I coe from a fishing village in Nigeria but I have never seen happier fishermen in my life than the ones I have seen in Malta. Malta has a lot of christians but you would only know by statistics, you dont see people attending churches or acting fundamentalist about.

The point that I am trying to make is that humans can achieve peace and continuous development and we have evidence for it. However, there are certain conditions that have to be met;

-Secularism and freedom
-Educated masses
-Self sustaining nation that can provide resources for all citizens. The common man being able to feed his family

Many European countries have secularism and high levels of literacy but why are they not as peaceful as Malta? Some of the Eastern European countries have seriously poor underclass and crime always follows that. Furthermore, some countries are not self sustaining, they dont focus on the needs of the common man even though the resources are there. When you put the resources in the hand of select few to greedily keep, the results are disastrous. Bankers destroying economies with public money and people's houses (mortagage).

There is hope if leaders are willing to meet certain conditions. Greed and religion is whatb is holding us back

frosbel: As for me :

1. Will not enter into arguments with fundamentalists.

2. Will not force my point of view on others.

3. When loneliness comes , will form an atheist club to have a sense of belonging.

4. Will not keep referring to God when there is a narrow escape

5. Will eat , drink and be merry for tomorrow we die

6. When depression hits , will run to my GP for Prozac or Valium

7. Nothing will be right or wrong, everything goes, there will be no such word as depravity

8. Words like 'god dey' or 'god help us ' or Oh my god' or 'god please please do not let me die ' will be out of my dictionary

etc etc etc
Wow. This has to be rated the most ignorant thread ever made.

The Epic fails

Atheism = inevitable depression
Atheism= immorality
Atheism= inevitable loneliness

Christianity EtcRe: The Story Of Job. An Example Of God's Wickedness by logicboy01(op): 1:44pm On Jun 28, 2012
To be honest this is one of the most unfortunate story I've ever read in the bible and I have never gleaned anything spiritual or higher from it (aside from job describing the elements and the power of his god).

It made me wonder if we are mere pawns in an egotistical battle between god and his adversary...their contention was so that it interfered with and affected the life of another and in extension his family, employees, livestock and charities for the duration of their bet. So in essence it was not only the life of one man that was interfered with and I doubt those that were rendered as collateral damage were directly compensated for during the period of their own loss.

And the most preposterous part of the story is that in the end Job had another batch of 10 children who were said to be even more beautiful than the last set. Would it even matter if they were not attractive or even less attractive than the last 10?...a child is irreplaceable talkless of ten...you cannot cement that loss with beauty.

Albeit I understand that trials may exist to make one stronger or refine their character but the manner in which this occurred - to prove a point to the devil about job who was already "perfect" - was pretty callous in my opinion of course.
Thanks for your insight. I 100% agree. What I dislike about the Job story is the treatment of wives and children as property that can be replaced. I pity christians who defend the murder of innocent children

musKeeto: Job 1:6-7
" Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. "

Funny isn't it?
Was the Lord here GOD or JESUS?
And Satan joined the party?

At some point, one just has to wonder if CHRISTIANS would believe these stories if they weren't in the Bible..
I wonder why people still believe this BS!

Christianity EtcThe Story Of Job. An Example Of God's Wickedness by logicboy01(op): 10:32am On Jun 28, 2012
Many people always tell me about the story of Job to strengthen my faith but I think it is a wrong story for faith.

Story of Job
-Job is a wealthy man with a family
-Satan sees this and wants God to test his faith
-God allows Satan to destroy Jobs family
-Job is also given disease
-Job remains faithful despite suffering
-The devil is angry and God is pleased.

Any non-christian that is not blinded by faith can see the obvious problems in this story

1) Satan tempts God. God agrees. This is contrary to what Jesus told Satan in the wilderness. Contradiction

2) God/Satan murders a man's family (children) just to test his faith. For all the christians who agree with this, may the same thing happen to you. "do unto others...". How can this be? Taking innocent lives just because you want to test someone's faith. How would you like it if your children were just killed because someone wants to test your faith?

3) God replaces Job's wealth and family at the end. This is what is wrong with the bible. It sees women and children as properties you can replace. Can someone replace your mother? Can someone else take the place of your children? God allows Satan to murder Job's children and later "blesses" him with other children. Can someone shout allelujah? God is here with replacement children.

4) Biological warfare. Job's case is one of the many cases the Almighty uses disease to inflict suffering on others. When a militant religious group uses disease to kill others, do not be surprised....oh wait

ijawkid: What was d end result of jobs integrity....??

The truth is d life has become imperfect,and satan causing mayhem here and there....

Servants of God are sometimes allowed to undergo some refinings...
How??

God doesn't stop every of satans physical attack on his servants...

Some of his servants experienced Gods saving power literally(daniel,the 3 hebrews etc)....while some even were killed though being servants of God(stephen,some of d apostles like paul and james)....

Some were allowed to undergo serious hardships just to build up there faith in God in times of distress...

In all, in this temporary wicked system the only thing we are guaranteed of as servants of God is spiritual protection...

While we will enjoy all of Gods protection in d nearest future...

I know all what I said mite sound absurd to u since u dnt even believe in d scriptures...lol

But that is it bro...

*Point::::....God doesn't cause our problems...

The dana crash was even the fault of d engineers,the 9ja aviation body and the dana airline management...

They were flying that passenger plane with just 1 faulty engine...

That is definitly not Gods doing,but mans carelessness......

The hope of ressurection is d end point because we can't live forever in this present world...
Who is talking about Dana here? Abeg stick to the point! God was directly involved with Job. Can Job replace his children that he lost? You are here aboasting about rewards and replacement children that God gave Job after. Stop and think, can you replace your parents or children? If you children are killed and wife gone, can you really replace them with another wife and children? The memories andtime spent with the first children will always reain there. The bible sees women and children as things you can replace, that is why the story of Job is like that- very foolish.

Was he an agnostic or an atheist....

Great men who made inventions still believed there is a God somewhere....

You dat I know that has invented and propounded nothing is out here looking for a proof for d existence of God....

It'll will take u forever ......
Much of the universe's water is produced as a byproduct of star formation. When stars are born, their birth is accompanied by a strong outward wind of gas and dust. When this outflow of material eventually impacts the surrounding gas, the shock waves that are created compress and heat the gas. The water observed is quickly produced in this warm dense gas.[20]

Einstein was an agnostic and did not believe in a religious god. So you are foolish. Most scientists do not believe in God. nly quacks like Davidylan are creationists

Satan did....

God only allowed it......

God allowing is not d same as causing.....

U dig??
Well if you can say that easily about somebody's family, how would you like for God to test your faith by "allowing" your family to die? How does your conscience feel? Can you replace your mon/sister/father/brother/children? How would you like if someoene said that God allowed satan to kill them.

Freksy: Sorry guy, this is slightly unrelated.

OLAADEGBU used existence of a house as proof of existence of a builder. This is undisputable fact, as you know. It's a logic based on true premise.

To 'debunk' this simple fact undisputably, talk about the existence of water(H2O) molecules without a source, and not the water cycle.

True atheists are strong and complete evolutionist. A water molecule must first evolve from somewhere before forming a cycle.

Sound logics must always be formulated on true premise
I did not mention "water", I mentioned "rain" because rain was seen as "showers from the creator" by people who thought like Olaadegbu.

Olaadedgbu's point only applies to inorganic things

There is nothing false about my premise.
