https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Buhari-urges-Muslims-to-pray-for-return-of-peace.png?d134e6 President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said the success of his administration should be measured through the number of Nigerians that were moved out of poverty, adding that his government’s economic focus would ensure inclusive growth. Buhari made this known while giving his opening remarks at the presidential retreat organised by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for ministers-designate. The retreat held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja with the theme, “Delivering Change: From precepts to practice.” Buhari stated that the minister-designates should count themselves privileged to have been chosen among millions of their compatriots to be the instruments that will deliver the change promised by the ruling party. The president observed that the expectation of Nigerians was high and as such the work of restoration and renewal was urgent, adding that the determination of government officials to succeed and change the fortunes of the country must be equal to the challenge. According to Buhari, the minister-designates should see the retreat as their first official contact with the machinery of government, of which, they will soon be part of, adding that they should fully acquaint themselves with the direction and priorities of the government so that all officials can move together as a team. Buhari said, “My election as President of this country was hinged on my promise to tackle corruption, insecurity and revive the economy. “We have already taken deliberate measures to plug leakages of government revenue and resources. You all know the steps we have taken to tackle Boko Haram. We have degraded them and in desperation, they are resorting to attacks on soft targets, killing innocent people. “Diversification of the economy away from oil will be a major focus of this government. We will intervene in mining and agriculture and upgrade the country’s physical and social infrastructure, which will broaden our revenue base and significantly improve the level of employment, especially among the youth. “Our economic focus will be policies that will ensure inclusive growth and we will count our achievements based on the number of Nigerians we move out of poverty. “The objective of this retreat is clearly reflected in the choice of topics which you will be dealing with during the sessions. The need for observing the rule of law is being emphasised to ensure that impunity is removed from government conduct. “You are coming on board the ship of governance at an interesting time. So much has been said about the state of our economy. It is expected that we make the running of government at all levels as lean as possible, avoid waste and conserve resources. As Ministers, you must be the vehicle that will administer the change.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/11/05/judge-my-administration-by-the-number-of-people-that-move-out-of-poverty-buhari/ |

https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/dasuki8.jpg?b77931 A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday set Tuesday, November 3, 2015 for ruling on applications for the release of the passport of Col. Sambo Dasuki’s (rtd) to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the court ruling on an application by federal government for a secret trial of the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA) is still being awaited. Dasuki is standing trial on a five-count charge bothering on illegal possession of firearms and possession of amounts of local and foreign currency in his residence in contravention to the Money Laundering Act. The former NSA was first charged on Monday August 24, 2015 on a one-count charge of illegal possession of firearms. He was immediately granted bail on self-recognition while the trial judge Adeniyi Ademola ordered the Department of State Security Services, DSS, to submit Dasuki’s passport which it had seized with the court registrar. On October 26 when the case was supposed to be heard, the prosecution filed four fresh charges and also asked for a secret trial to protect witnesses even though all the names of witnesses had been mentioned in the court processes. On the same day, Dasuki asked the court for the release of his travel passport to enable him attend to his personal health issues abroad and objected to the secret trial, preferring open trial of the case for the benefit of the public. Justice Adeniyi Ademola of Federal High Court 6 then adjourned the case to Wednesday last week for ruling on the two issues being sought by both the prosecution and defence. However, the court failed to sit on that day because of a seminar organised for judges by the National Judicial Institute (NJI). At the resumed hearing of the case this Monday, Justice Ademola revealed that Dasuki had filed an application for urgency to hear the motion for release of his passport as the date of appointment given by his medical doctor had since elapsed. Counsel to Dasuki, Mr. Joseph Dawodu (SAN) said Dasuki needed his passport to honour a pending medical appointment and urged the judge to direct the Registrar of the court to release the passport. Objecting to the application, Mr. Muhammed Diri, Federal Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) argued that seizing Dasuki’s passport was the only condition upon which he was granted bail and that it has been discovered that the ailment of the accused could be treated at the National Hospital, Abuja. But Dawodu while reacting to Diri, argued that refusal to release the passport would be tantamount to punishing Dasuki and it would also appear as if he had already been sentenced “whereas it is only to secure his appearance.” Dawodu also argued that the bail condition granted Dasuki was on self-recognition, even as he cited several legal authorities to back his argument. Justice Ademola, while deferring his ruling on the matter till Tuesday, did ask Diri to present any legal authority to support his opposition to the request. http://dailypost.ng/2015/11/02/court-to-rule-on-dasukis-international-passport-tuesday/ |

Metuh had mocked Lai Mohammed, saying he would not get a ministerial position in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet. Reacting, Mohammed, in a statement at the weekend said that “with a combustible and out-of-control spokesman like Metuh, there is no way the PDP will survive in opposition.” “Metuh has shown, time and again, that he lacks the temperament, presence of mind, sobriety, analytical mind, decency in the use of language and panache needed for anyone to be the face of any organisation, not to talk of a political party,” he said. “It was the realisation of this obvious fact that made us to offer to provide the excitable Metuh a crash course on how to function as an opposition spokesman. Unfortunately, it is too late now as he seems to have become totally untrainable. “Instead of reacting to our sincere advice to his party to urgently rebrand or go down, Metuh chose to unleash his vitriolic tongue on the APC spokesman, just as he has done to the judiciary and many agencies of government in recent times. “In what is surely a looming tragedy for the PDP, a spokesman who helped write the party into opposition is now poised to further write it into extinction.” Mohammed insisted that “the PDP should stop wailing and insulting the judiciary for the electoral tragedy which it brought upon itself by engaging in mindless rigging and violence in the last general election. “The doomed opposition should also immediately stop its failed strategy of trying to distract the Buhari administration, which is busy cleaning up the mess left behind by the 16 years of locust of the sinking PDP,” the party added. http://dailypost.ng/2015/11/01/metuh-is-totally-untrainable-he-will-push-pdp-into-extinction-apc/ |
