The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai said on Saturday that with the adoption of the Single Treasury Account, the state had traced and uncovered N4bn stashed in 470 different accounts in 23 commercial banks. He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party administration had been operating these (470) accounts in different banks over the years with various names. According to the governor, but for the adoption of the Single Treasury Account system, nobody would have traced and discovered the accounts or recovered the said money. El-Rufai, who spoke through his deputy, Barnabbas Bala, stated this at the Third Town Hall Meeting, initiated by the government to interface with the people of Southern Kaduna senatorial district. It was held at Kafanchan, in Kaura Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday. The deputy governor, who represented his principal, said through the Single Treasury Account, the government was able to trace and discover the said amount in the banks. He also told the audience that El-Rufai was on an official engagement outside the country. The El-Rufai administration, in early August this year, announced the adoption of the Single Treasury Account and directed all commercial banks with the state funds to remit such (money) to the Central Bank of Nigeria. The deputy governor while addressing the people of the zone, said the system had begun to yield the state result as the government was able to trace and discover N4bn. The amount, he said, was in 470 different account names and banked in 23 commercial banks by the government of the PDP in the state. He said the STA accounting system, which had been in operation since September 1, was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. He said, “With the system, we have been able to trace and discover the sum of N4bn in different account names in 23 banks. The STA is to ensure that public funds are traceable and for the sake of accountability in the state.” He also disclosed that despite the autonomy given to local governments in the state by the current administration, some councils in the state were highly indebted. http://www.punchng.com/news/n4bn-uncovered-in-470-accounts-says-el-rufai/

A seven-year-old girl (names withheld) has narrated how her father paid her after sexually abusing her at their Ojokoro Housing Estate, Meiran, Ijaiye, Lagos, residence. The primary three pupil said: “My daddy usually gives me money after touching my private part or putting his penis in my mouth. He touches my private part when my mother is outside washing clothes or when she is not in the house.” The victim’s father, identified as Chukwuemeka Odunzie, allegedly started defiling his daughter early last year. https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/chukw.jpg Chukwuemeka Odunzie Narrating her ordeal, the victim’s mother, Mrs Odunzie, said: “Last year, my son told me that his younger sister was fond of playing with her private parts. It sounded strange that a seven-year-old child would be doing that. “I will talk to her, scold her and sometimes beat her. There was a time I told my husband. “All he said was that if she was acting strangely I should take her to any of these white garment churches. I was alarmed when one day, while we were in the sitting room, she started touching and playing with herself. She confesses to mother “Immediately, I called her inside the room and asked her what the problem was. I asked her if anyone was fiddling with her private parts. She said it was her father that always touched her private parts and that after touching her private parts, he would give her money. “I confronted my husband when he returned from work but he denied vehemently. I reported a case of defilement to Ebenezer Divisional Police and the policemen invited my husband for questioning. “He was arrested later by the police, who gave me a report to take my daughter to the hospital. The doctor said there had been no penetration, but that there is an opening in her virginal and advised that the victim be tested for infection. Family pressure “By the time we came back from the hospital, the IPO said it was a family issue and that we should go home and settle the case. “Members of his family were shouting, saying that I had no right to report the case to the police, that it was a family issue that should be treated as one. They pressurized me till I withdrew the case, after which he promised not to defile our daughter again. “After I withdrew the case, my husband began to beat the children at the slightest provocation. And at times, he would beat them for no tangible reason. “Two weeks ago, it happened again. I asked her what she did for her father that made him give her money without giving her siblings. That was when she said that daddy gave her the money after touching her private part. “Her siblings said it had been ongoing for a while and that they refused to tell me because the last time they did, their daddy kept beating them. “He puts it in my mouth” “Her brother said whenever I was not around, or I was outside washing clothes, daddy would send him and his other siblings inside the bedroom, while he would ask the victim to kneel down in between his legs and bend her head towards his manhood. “She also confirmed that after touching her, daddy would put his penis in her mouth. “There was even a time my daughter was caught in the act with a four-year-old boy, who is a neighbour’s child.” In his defense, the victim’s father, Chukwuemeka Odunzie, admitted that it was only once he abused his daughter and that he was not doing it for occult reasons. Reacting to the issue, the Co-coordinator, Project Alert, Josephine Effah Chukwuma, said: “Apart from ensuring that the law takes it course, the main task is how to rehabilitate this little girl, whose life has been messed up by her father. “This is because the abuse was not a one-off thing as the victim had become so accustomed to the act, that when she feels the urge and there is no one to touch her, she touches herself. “There is need to rehabilitate her and her siblings, who watched.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/daddy-touches-me-puts-his-manhood-in-my-mouth-gives-me-money-7-yr-old-girl/ |

Following the disclosure of the president and vice president's assets, » the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has hinted that it may soon demand the public disclosure of the assets of the wife of President Aisha Buhari. In a statement made available to news men in Abuja on Friday, September 4, 2015, by the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party says the assets disclosure was not in tune with the president's assets declaration months before his election. The PDP, while questioning the contents of the list released by the president hinted that it was “not yet demanding the public declaration of his assets in his wife’s name.” Metuh recalled that the president in his own words had told Nigerians that, “I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liability and also encourage my political appointees to publicly declare their assets and liability.” “All we want is credibility, integrity and sincerity of purpose. We are not questioning how a president, who by December last year, declared that he had only N1 million in his account, could suddenly now list N30 million in the same bank account by May 29, and after an expensive campaign; we are not yet demanding the public declaration of his assets in his wife’s name,' the statement reads in part. http://pulse.ng/politics/aisha-buhari-pdp-may-request-president-buharis-wife-to-disclose-assets-id4141068.html

Sabrwahaqqo:Buhari has bigger problems to solve. This is just a spec of sand in the whole matter. |
Sabrwahaqqo:Not sure either but I guess companies as such have social responsibilities to the communities in which they operate in since they are benefitting from the local raw materials. However, I am not sure if the president has any power to force salary upgrade. |
Transport staff of the Dangote Cement Company, Obajana, are at loggerheads with the management of the company over poor remuneration, threatening not to resume work until their demands are met. The workers who barricaded the entrance gate on Friday did not allow some management staff to drive in to the premises. The workers who chatted with Vanguard at the premises of the company in Obajana,Friday, asked President Muhammed Buhari to beam the anti graft light on the business Czar, Aliko Dangote because he is underpaying for labour, thereby exploiting them for his private gain. They called on Presidency to implore Alhaji Aloko Dangote to implement workers’ welfare measures and look into demands for salary increment in view of the economic situation which is biting hard on their families. A worker who simply identified himself as Chizoba said they are the ones doing the work which has rated Dangote as one of the richest in the world. “We implore the President of Nigeria to advise Alh. Dangote to place the workers’ welfare on the front burners to ensure industrial harmony at the company. We cannot be working for one of the world’s richest men who will in turn, be paying us peanuts as salaries”, he said. The workers said it was unacceptable for management to be paying them N20,000 naira per month when some of the management staff earn as high as a million naira per month. They said they cannot be slaves in their own land. “For more than 5yrs the company had been promising us increment and promotion. ” Another staff Usman Garuba said they have been working for years in the company and the management kept promising them better welfare packages but have failed. “The last meeting that we held with the management they promised to implement the salary increase within one week but they have failed. “We added two days and now another one week has elapsed. We demand that a top management officer from the head office come to address us if not we are going to continue the current strike”. The workers said they are ready to go to any length to achieve their objective. “Some of us are taking N25000, some N30000 and some N40000. They are paying the expatriates N2M monthly. If they don’t need us let them sack us”, Garuba said. Efforts by our reporters to get the management’s side of the story were rebuffed as they all declined comment on the issue. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/transport-staff-ask-buhari-to-probe-dangote-say-he-is-underpaying-for-labour/ |
