Broke, a bank closed its doors to shut out a rush of its depositors. One man stood in front of the large glass doors and yelled for all to hear, "They ought to throw the bank president in jail. They ought to take the whole board of trustees and hang them from the nearest tree. Every person who works in the bank should be tarred and feathered and run out of town!" A policeman asks, "Is your money in that bank?" The man says, "If I had money in that bank, would I be taking it this lightly?" |
Before you invest, investigate." William Arthur Ward (1921-1994) author, educator. "I never attempt to make money on the stock market. I buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years." Warren Buffett (1930- ) businessman and investor "If stock market experts were so expert, they would be buying stock, not selling advice." Norman R. Augustine "Now is always the most difficult time to invest." Anonymous "My job is to make people money. If I don't include every factor that moves a stock, market psychology included, then I'm not doing my job." Thomas Kurlak "A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, 'At my age, I don't even buy green bananas.'" Claude Pepper "If you hear that everybody is buying a certain stock, ask who is selling." James Dines, Investment newsletter writer (1935- ) What was the original name of the American Stock Exchange and why? The Curb, because it was originally started by traders on the streets of New York City standing on and by the curb |
Some Economics A truck driver moved to Texas and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day the farmer drove up and said: "Sorry, but I have some bad news. The donkey died." "Well, then, just give me my money back." "Can't do that. I went and spent it already." "OK, then. Just unload the donkey." "What ya gonna do with him?" "I'm going to raffle him off." "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!" "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead." A month later the farmer met up with the truck driver and asked: "What happened with that dead donkey?" "I raffled him off. I sold 200 tickets at two dollars apiece and I made a profit of $898." "Didn't anyone complain?" "Sure, but just the guy who won. So I gave him back his two dollars." |
Without appearing to take sides on the stock prediction issue, like WW said, no one is right 100% of the time, you win some, you lose some. AirLafarge is a good example. On the lighter side, there are three groups of people who can be wrong 90% of the time, and yet not get sacked! Stock analysts who can predict a buy,and the stock then goes down several points The weather analyst who tells you its going to be a sunny day,and then you come home drenched in the rain And the political analyst who says Obama has New Hampshire only for Hillary to win that primary! |
Is another rally imminent for Airservices? |

Old News on Niwicable New investors inject N1.3b into NIWICABLE THE Nigerian Wire and Cable (NIWI Cable) recently got an injection of new fund of N1.3 billion from a new investor to reactivate the company after closure of two years. Chief Oyepeju, a leader of one of the prominent shareholder association in Ibadan said that the company was able to get the said amount from True Bond Investment and Capital Limited who are presently the new investors in the company. He said with the N1.3 billion, the debt of the company has been taken care of. "Nigerian Wire and Cable has come back to the main stream of the capital market, with N1.3 billion the debt of NIWI Cable company has been taken care of", he said. Explaining, he said that part of the money is also used for buying raw materials. "The company has goods that can take them through for the next 12 months. The problem of raw materials is not the issue; the issue is on the sincererity of the new investor," he said. At the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the company held on September 24 this year, the new investors promised shareholders that within the next three months of operation, they will declare profit, take the bull by the horn and maintain the quality in production. The company which resumed operation under the new management in October is said to be the best wire and cable company in Nigeria and West Africa. With a new Managing Director Mr Lateef Bakare, a chartered accountant, the company presently produces 120 tonnes per day, a 50 per cent capacity. Come March next year, it was revealed that the company will be producing 250 tonnes per day. The low out put for now was based on the fact that the machines having stayed for so long without functioning, needs overhauling for a 100 per cent production. Also for better performances and profitable results, the company has imported two sets of 1000 megawatt generators to ease their production. It would be recalled that in September an alert was raised that the price of the company was appreciating without being operational. The company which is situated in Ibadan, is now experiencing a justifiable positive price movement which has been attributed to investors' reaction to the news as regards the company's electrification of its operation. Some analyst also commented on the acceptability of the company by the investing public that money will always find its level by going to where it is needed. "The market will always give the company the right evaluation". He assured the public that so far the company maintain a good quality of its products, the price of the company will in no time grow to the extent of giving investors good returns. This year, the stock has enjoyed a price rally from a low 70 kobo to as high as N6.79, a growth of 870 per cent. |
