I read the captioned from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-18703171 and it is really bad. Nigeria already has a bad image .

Folks, how can this country come out clean out of this mess?
CareerRe: HND Holders: How Late Is Too Late For A BSc? by lond07: 12:59pm On Jun 14, 2012
Dereformer: Let me start by saying, I'm an Hnd holder. Having gone through posts on this forum where some of my fellow Hnd holders bemoan their fate in the in the labour market, I cannot but say, upgrade what u currently have by enrolling into a university of your choice for a part-time Bsc program. Whether you go ahead to get PGD, MSC or professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CISA, COREN, CITN, etc, the discrimination will still be there without a Bsc certification. Even with my HND(Distinction) Acct, ACA, i find it difficult to believe that many organisations will publish vacancy requiring only university degree. Folks, we have to get this Bsc. Even though at my age (37) I should have obtained an MSC and one or two more professional qualifications; but i have made up my mind to go for a Bsc come next year 2013. Some universities will start you from 200 level, while some like IMSU will give 300 level. Plsease, be encouraged. Responses are encouraged.
I had mine at your age & thanks to God today, It has paid off bountifully.

You are on track. Alll the best

Area-Fada:
It seems people are not making official complaints, how can they change?

Can someone start a blog or something like: Complaint Against NPF (CANPF) or anything like that?

Because it will help collate people's experiences and that may be able to draw international attention. You know our so-called leaders hate international embarassment. That's the only thing the fear. It may start small but because the NPF may soon have their cup full soon, you never know. All these complaints are not official.

When complaining include as much detail as you can, get the Policeman's Number and name, police station, place and time of incident, what exactly happened and final outcome (e.g. forced to pay bribe or pay for bail, physical/mental abuse/torture, threats, forced confessions, detention, etc).

They will rather slavishly obey American Ambassador (see Wikileaks)instead of serving the electorate.
Many of the replies are very disheartening. Very bad. Do we have any policeman in the house? Please let us hear from you if you are one.

And I hope according to the bolded part above, there is a way of bringing these excesses to the relevant authority

You need to determine what exactly was/were touched. Was he talking about momentary/causal body contact or deliberate handling of the body parts. The case might simply be a momentary body contact such that happens when you hug/embrace. Find out what exactly happened and the number of times. Then you can decide where the matter goea from there

The coy I believe remain culpable. Tell me why do they have policies in place in the 1st place. Why should the parents takeover decision making and the manager has the effrontery to shout out that the parents decided the bus must arrive Lagos at all cost.

This excuse holds no water. The manager should be sacked and the coy made to face the music

RomanceRe: Blackberry Babes And Grammatical Blunders by lond07: 4:55pm On Mar 30, 2012
Basics007: Problem with this kinda thread is that your grammar must be impeccable before you can criticise anybody. In my opinion i think the OP overreached himself by starting a thread criticising someone's spoken English when his own english is so faulty as is clearly apparent from the his post. Fine, english is not our mother's tongue and that's the major reason why you must be sure of yourself before mocking others
I think you should understand that when you are posting on NL/similar forums, sending sms/pinging on BB, you are not doing exam/interview for job. You make lots of abbreviations, typo errors etc. As long as you sentences are readable and understandable that is ok. Yeah, the OP himself is guilty of this just like every one of us. So don't judge by what you read on sms/NL etc.

If he had restricted his assessments to the conversation that took place @ the bank, that would have been fine, not typed/sms-ed conversations to which he himself must have been guilty of @ 1 time or the other

SamAfoo: You were coming from Calabar to Lagos, how come you were robbed at Ibilo? Ibilo is about 20km to Okene in Kogi State.I dont think there is any truth in this story.
This Ibilo must be very notorious.

I was once robbed at Ibilo on my way to Abuja at a BROAD DAY LIGHT. the time was about 2pm.

At gun point I was dispossed of my 3 month old MBenz and several valuables in the car. I was hit on the head with a gun butt. The injury took several years to heal. I got to my to my destination with blood soaked cloth and bathroom slippers. It was a terrible experience. But I am really grateful to God today for his mercies and blessings. He has made up in multiples

That is even the danger on the road in daylight talkless of the night.

Ever since then I would rather fly or cancel the trip rather than go by road anyday/anytime

gloryland: Ekene dili chukwu doesnt operate in Calabar. I doubt the authenticity of this story. Ekene doesnt have a park or terminal in Calabar. I wonder where he boarded d so called Lagos bound bus in Calabar
Well, uuhhhnnnnn. I do not really know what to say.

Granted that the story line could be fictional, the playout is not impossible. All underscores the dangers in night travels

I remember my Add Maths Teacher in secondary school, travelled home for xmas/end of year 1986. He came back to tell stories of how their luxury bus was hijacked and diverted into the bush, and everyone stripped completely naked. Some women were raped and according to him 3 of them virgins. Before the robbers left, they decided to give every passenger a mark for rememberance by matcheting them at their choice place. He got his by his left arm.

A very close friend is a lecturer at the law school @ abuja. He was very fortunate that when armed robbers were shooting senselessly to stop the bus, the passenger sitting just beside him was hit by a bullet & died instantly. It took him several days to come out of the shock.

The storyline of a third fellow, a sister inlaw, was a fortunate one for her. The escorts in the bus were able to regain control and get them out of the danger zone.

Few words for the wise
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Vacancy For Web Developer (Expired!) by lond07: 5:23pm On Mar 27, 2012
Dual Core: I twist, turn and tumble PHP, MySQL and Linux in such a way that no classroom would have taught me how to. No one has to go to a school to learn what you have a passion for. Anybody with the right passion can spend zero Naira and go from zero to hero in web development. Web dev is binary, you're either zero or one.

If you are a developer/programmer as you claim then I should not be telling you how frustrating the life of a programmer/developer will be without a search engine like Google.

Information is free of charge but not free of your time and determination.
I can not just imagine a developer's life without google & co. Infact let google & others shut down for 1 month and OMG........... better imagined than real

However, I will assert firmly and confidently, that the kind and level of exposures you get working in the industry is not the same as you get learning on your own at home. The passion may be there in both, but the quality, I tell you, not the same

Macheus: Hi all,I need your sincere opinions concerning this. Look of my face is nothing to write home about I must admit. As regards to this I've lost my confidence when about to meet people. 80% of folks I come across every day misinterpret age above what it ought to be or even in most cases address me elderly even when older than me,just because of the look of my face. I feel extremely bad about this deep inside but never allow to reflect out. Pls. be informed that my face does not suffer any acne but just rough. I've seen some changes after taking ZINC for ACNE(Puritan's Pride) Pls. all I need is drugs /peels that would restore my youthful look,Many thanks!
You do not need drugs. But I will suggest the followings
- maintain a high level of personal hygiene. It reflects on your entire psycology.
- wash your face every night before going to sleep.
- eat lots of fruits and vegetables. you may supplement with anti-oxidant food supplements like Centrum
- ensure you have at least 8hrs of sleep every day.
- stay away from smoking, and possibly alcohol.
- always wear a smile. Don't get moulded into a frowned face, it does not help

Bear in mind that the changes will only come gradually. You may not notice until after 3/4 months. Don't be in hurry. Human boy is wonderful and will respond to the tuning surprisingly for you
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Vacancy For Web Developer (Expired!) by lond07: 9:49am On Mar 27, 2012
Dual Core: You fail to understand this is not a bank job. This is a web development/linux admin job. You cannot keep a full time web developer who knows what he is doing and pay him 150k Naira per month. You cannot keep a full time linux administrator who knows what he is doing and pay him 150k per month.

And NO, there are not much good web developers and linux administrators in Nigeria, most of what we have is people who run their mouths with Joomla and reseller webhosting accounts.

A freelance web developer who knows what he is doing can nail 3 jobs at 100 - 250k each per month.

The show-off by Leomax was highly unnecessary but I ignored him. Going through a person's post you know loud mouths and serious people.

This is a good opportunity for any medium-level web developer who is interested in learning Python. Python is not a very marketable language in the freelance industry so I don't go deep into it.

The salary of 150k per month is not a catch, its the experience, passion and the long term benefits.

P.S: Please don't talk lesser of Information Technology near Banking. Very different fields with very different possibilities. I won't give away my IT skills to be a bank manager. I don't a bank manager will give his job up to be a programmer. Its not about the money, its the passion. We are what we do.
Nice one. "its the experience, passion and the long term benefits.........Its not about the money, its the passion. We are what we do"

smile4kenn: I am a programmer and I work here in the USA(I get headaches staring and hitting my fingers everyday on python, Visual studio and SQL) This is just my second year working as a programmer after uni graduation. I am paid $36 an hour and I work 40+ hours a week. Do the maths yourself cheesy

My point here is that 2m naira as a programmer in Nigeria is a good offer. As you will learn a lot working with a website with over 800k members. You will also gain a lot as per experience and CV content for future reference. I'd advice any good programmer in Naija to grab this offer! I started off with a pay lower than what the poster is offering, but what you need as a programmer is experience and CV content(reputable ones tho).
Did you note that the offer is per anum, NOT PER MONTH ? For an experienced programmer/sys. administrator?

Do the assessment again & let us know if you have a changed opinion

pak: I keep getting shocked the way Nlanders talk when issues of money/salary is mentioned.
The way peeps are making comments you'll think we are not in the same country where unemployment is at an all time high

I mean in reality, how many Nigerians earn as much as N1.8m per year ? (especially those outside Abuja and Lagos, and maybe PH).

The guy is like offering more than N150K per month.

How many entry level bankers even earn more than that these days talk-less of IT, where most firm pay low.

It's better to just say you don't have the skill set to qualify for the job than to make statements that seem to demean the laudable effort of this young man.

@Seun, Kudos
I think you are missing the point. An entry level programmer/Sys Administrator may do with 150K per anum not an experienced one. Besides we are talking about 2 skills here. If at all they get a good one, I doubt very much the fellow will stay upto a year.

[s]Each of our equipment has a (6)six month manufacturers' warranty[/s]. - where all are not from the same manufacturer.
The first sentence in bold is correct but the second is not.

A single item (implied by each in the statement) is not likely to come from more than one manufacturer.

Hence, I will posit that whether you are referrring to each item of equipment or to all, or from one manufaturer or many, the first sentence is perfectly ok

Reference:
Its so easy to criticize but without knowing the full circumstance it is better to temper it afterall Seal team six that got Bin Laden lost a lot of men in an Afghanistan incident a few months later. What do you say about that. In a covert operation several factors need to align properly for it to succeed and more often than not they don't. A planned silent assault can easily turn into a ferocious ambush and this incident looks exactly like that. The only reason why weapons will be used at long range is to counter in coming fire. I suspect the operation was compromised. With the way suspects jump arrest, it is not unimaginable our security services are as solid as swiss cheese. Am afraid in the future these foreign forces may just conduct operations on our turf just as they do in Pakistan for the very same reasons.
I was impressed with your comment. Very objective. But let's keep positive there was no compromise until there is more details.
PoliticsRe: Photos: The House Where The British And Italian Hostages Were Murdered by lond07: 3:11pm On Mar 10, 2012
pro01:
I believe this. When I first heard of the operation and it's aftermath, my first instinct was that it must have failed because Nigeiran forces participated in it. If the British needed help, the ONLY help Nigeria should/could have rendered was local intelligence, logistics, and whatnot. The actual operation would have been too complicated, delicate, and 'mentally tasking' for the average dumb kill-and-go Nigerian security forces. I don't care to know the details, but what I do know is that if Nigerian forces had participated in such a delicate rescue effort, then the chance of success was always going to be close to ZERO. They only know how to destroy and kill (crudely), not how to salvage or save (adroitly).
I think this is where you got it wrong. (The bolded part above). Get the details right before jumping to conclusion.

Besides. not all soldiers are "dumb kill-and-go Nigerian security forces". Many can be very professional on their duties and the respective commanders/authorities for this operation would have carefully selected who & who would be part of it knowing fully well that a failed operation would be very costly. The British would also have assessed the staffing, chances of success, costs of failures before giving a consent.

So for me, I keep my fingers crossed, not judgemental until I have the details

Interesting post indeed

Though I am not on medical line, the universal protocol anywhere is should a male doc have a need to attend to an opposite sex patient, it should be in the presence of a female staff. Some institutions may be careless about this until they are confronted with embarasing court cases and fines. Don't forget these medics are humans of the same feelings as rest of us. Even the presence of the husband has little/ no impact as evidenced in some previous posts.

"However lols, I will recommend you watch this film entiltled EYES WIDE SHUT". very interesting film that shows the jealous feelings of a doctor's wife whose husband may have a need to carry out breast cancer/other  tests on female patients. (Warning: the film contains some adult contents). I will reserve my further comments on the film until someone can tell how a typical doc/gynea feels in this kind of scenario

some of them presented the same vaccination card they used when they applied for visa, why was it not noted or their visas rejected of those cards were fake. how come they just got to know they are fake at the port of entry, the same cards that were approved by them at their visa processing unit back here. why would they deport 125 people same day because of vaccination when its well known that the diseases are from there,
PhysicsQED, imagine yourself to be the other one deported indiscriminately, would you have made that statement qouted above.

Their sponsors are still alive somewhere and will more likely be planning resprisal attacks. The church members have only succeeded to expose themselves to more dangers. Very stupid thing for them to have done

Well, it is recognised in the UK. But I am NOT SURE if it is in Nigeria. It is only a wise course of wisdom to BE SURE of whatever you want to do.
Furthermore, even if the govt approved online courses, it has to be acceptable by more than an average number of recruiters/employers, otherwise, it will still suffer the same prejudices vented on HND
