IjeBos: Been somewhat baffled by the level of support Trump has with Nigerian Christians esp. in the American Politics thread here. It seems some there have even deified him. Trump is such an amoral person. And given his comments about Nigeria being an a--hole country, where is this support coming from?
Because they think he supports some kind of Christian Nationalism agenda and has a more friendly approach to Israel. He is the image some of them have of a wealthy Christian even though the man hardly goes to church. Since the campaign for the 2020 election ended I don't think I've heard that Trump went to church again yet they still think he is a Christian. Even with this current election campaign I haven't heard him court the Christian right like he did in previous campaigns yet they still see him as their champion. Obviously they are closing their eyes to his many, many, many shortcomings, for them he makes the right noises about granting their wishes to see a more Christianized world.
SIRTee15: Greek. The eastern Roman province was heavily Hellenised by the 1st century AD. It was the lingua Franca of that era in the Judea and Mediterranean. That's why the Jews refer to non Jews (gentiles) as greeks/hellene. It's extrapolation of the word Hellene/greek by the jews to cover greek speakers.
Even Jews that lived abroad and embraced the Greek culture in those days were called Hellenised Jews.
Where is the evidence that it was the lingua franca.
SIRTee15: Is LordReed also a nuisance. I thought he's one smart dude. I may have to end this afterall. Not that he's intellectually sound in anyway. Just imagine, he still can't get it that the syrophoenician woman is not a native of Greece but a Greek speaker. That's the reason she was called Greek/hellene.
Look at who is talking about intellectual soundness. You keep saying I said what I never said. Point out where I said she was not a Greek speaker.
I SAID THE JEWISH BIBLE- TANAKH WHICH IS THE ORIGINAL OLD TESTAMENT DO NOT CONSIDER SIRACH AS CANON.
And I said:
LordReed: There are 2 screenshots, the 2nd shows how Sirach itself is canon. That it is not Jewish canon but is Christian canon only serves to underscore my point: what constitutes canon is a function of the bias of those selecting that canon.
SIRTee15: Do u actually understand what u underlined. It says the prologue of sirach listed canon of prophet books. It never said book of sirach is a canon. The book was never considered a canon by any Jewish sect.
There are 2 screenshots, the 2nd shows how Sirach itself is canon. That it is not Jewish canon but is Christian canon only serves to underscore my point: what constitutes canon is a function of the bias of those selecting that canon.
Actress and singer Descushiel has tendered an apology after forgetting the lyrics while singing the National Anthem. Descushiel who was dressed as a police officer was tasked with reciting the National Anthem at the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Imo State on Monday, October 30.
During the event, which was aired live across TV stations, the singer could be seen singing the wrong lyrics.
Aemmyjah: Why not say that I was lying against Darwin? 😂 😂 😂
Or explain how and why your eyes which is simple and imperfect could evolve from that which was complex and perfect ?
Or explain how the eyes originated from a patch of light sensitive material. Is that an fiction or scientific fact
As I said Darwin ANSWERED the question and provided an explanation for how the eye evolved.
Huh? Human eyes are not simple, you mixed up the progression.
I cannot since I am not an evolutionary biologist. I understand what they say so if you would accept their explanation, I can always provide your favourite method, screenshots.
OLAADEGBU: In what later appeared to be a false alarm, the church member, according to the police, confessed to have stolen the organ, and dragged his Pastor into it, to save his life.
Aemmyjah: One thing that Charles Darwin himself found it hard to use evolution to explain was the evolution of the human eye Do you agree that a simple, imperfect eye could evolve from a complex, imperfect eye?
Science says that the eye evolved from some light - sensitive patch... Imagine?
Still using that tired and thoroughly debunked canard in 2023?
Darwin asked a question which he ANSWERED. Stop using this canard, it's nonsense and the sooner you accept it the better for you.
achorladey: Reality on ground is that many don't even want to question them knowing they will not respond or regard them as APOSTATES and once they place that label(APOSTATES) on members who question them and their authority, that is the FINAL. No matter how good at heart is the person’s question really is, once they call the person an apostate, that person is off limits
SIRTee15: Sirach did not compile any tanakh neither was his work cannonised as a Jewish scripture. The book of spinach is regarded as one of the inter testament books written when there no further prophesy in the land, it's called deutocannonical.
Some chapters of the book listed the prophets but it's not an exclusive list. Sirach didn't mention Ezra, Zachariah or Malachi which are post exile prophets but mentioned zerubabel. Whereas the book of ezekiah written in 400-500BC mentioned Daniel and 1st book of Maccabee written in the 2nd century mentioned Daniel.
Yes I guess my statement was inaccurate so I have screenshot the exact wording and added how Sirach itself is considered canon.
They may have mentioned Daniel but do they reference a book of Daniel?
SIRTee15: When does Hellene meant foreigner. In what era.
So a Syrian living in Greece in 1st century AD will be called Hellene? Is that what u saying? The Greeks will call a foreigner living amongst them Hellene?
Common u much smarter than this, don't just follow a blind man into a pit. That I chose to ignore been him since yesterday doesn't mean he's right.
Do your own research so that u don't end up like him...a nuisance.
The Jews are the ones that call gentiles/foreigners by the word Hellene/Greek, and there's a reason for that.
That doesn't mean a Roman will call an Egyptian Hellene unless the Egyptian fits the criteria.
Anyway some answers gives insight.
How was she both a Syrophoenician and a native of Greece?
You acknowledge that it was Jews who called foreigners Hellenes, was it not Jews who wrote the gospels?
SIRTee15: He didn't answer the question. He answered the question he set for himself not mine. The bible made it clear she wasn't a native of Greece so I don't understand his numerous screenshots which are irrelevant to the fact.
The issue here is not whether she spoke Greek or Aramaic. Why was a gentile woman called Greek? That's my question. It's a testament to the widespread Hellenised culture and influence in other non greek culture of those days.
He answered the question, it was a translation. The actual word used was Hellene meant to indicate she was a foreigner. The English translation to Greek was obviously inaccurate since she was Syro-Phoenician.
When Pontus Pilate ordered Jesus to be crucified. He had an inscription written above his head 'king of the Jews' According to john, this was written in Latin, Aramaic and Greek. Why the Greek language? Who are the target audience the Greek inscription meant for in a Palestinian province? Latin is understandable since it's the language of Roman authority but why Greek? Why would Pontus Pilate, a Roman governor order the inscription written in Greek amongst Jewish population?
Nobody is saying there weren't any Greek speakers there, the question is were Jesus and the disciples converse enough to speak and write it.
Philipponzaghi: If this happened in Africa, they would have been writing to the embassy screaming African leaders are killing freedom of speech.
But here is the UK prime minister sacking someone just because he called for peace.
If na one African president dey kill people of other country, USA go condemn to The Hague but since it is Israel doing the killing, they look the other way and say they are fighting terrorists.
This world is the more you look, the less you see.
Na who no know before dey sleep. World politics has no good guys and bad guys but whose interest is being protected and whose ox is being gored.
achorladey: The litigation and court cases that will follow will swallow the organisation. They are shopping for lawyers all over the world regarding the numerous court cases on their neck
Yeah it's possible it could lead to litigation. In any case they know they have to be careful lest their followers begin to question them too closely, that will certainly ruin the effect they have on the congregation.
SIRTee15: 1.Maybe u need to check for the meaning of centurion. There's no Greek centurion or Jewish centurion. A centurion is always a Roman official.
2. Two disciples of Jesus who were with him in Capernaum and witness to the event confirmed and wrote that Jesus spoke to the centurion. They are Mathew and John and they gave their account in the respective gospels they wrote. They both wrote Jesus had a conversation with the centurion.
Why was the syrophoenician woman called Greek in the gospel of Mark. The woman is not a Greek by ethnicity but a Canaanite from the area of Tyre and Sidon. That makes her a gentile anyway. But why was she referred to as being Greek if she wasn't a native of Greece.
Maynman already pointed out why she would have been called that. It is quite possible that she could also converse in Aramaic so again this is not categorically saying the conversation was in Greek.
SIRTee15: Above is your opinion not based on any factual evidence.
The debate on the book of daniels and gospel of Peter proves that.
Thank u.
Quite the opposite and even your strain of argument proves it. You pressed assiduously that the church fathers simply accepted the book of Daniel and even elevated it to be among the prophets contrary to the canon they got it from. Of course they couldn't verify it beyond what they met as canon and tradition but that is exactly the point, it was their knowledge and biases that drove the process not any kind of infallibility.
SIRTee15: The authorship of Daniel wasnt challenged until 19th century by scholars. Book of Daniel wasnt regarded as part of the inter testament books by the Jews or any scholars until the 19th century.
At least try and read what's written here. It's takes effort from our busy lives to write and update here. How can u say the church fathers were the ones that named the book of Daniel when even Jesus quoted from the book. Septuagint that existed 200 yrs b4 any church fathers had the book of Daniel.
If I say we should end it now u will inhale your laffing gas and then bwaaaaahhh
Dude why do you keep saying I said things I never did. So basically you've been arguing against a strawman of your own making.
Since you missed it entirely the point of the argument is the canonisation of those books was done by criteria selected by men which showed their biases and not any kind of infallibility.
Maynman: Lordreed, no vex sey I dey tag you too much oo, is there any recorded history of Roman Officers in Galilee especially in a village, Capernaum prior to 44AD.
No wahala man. I like how you dig out information.
SIRTee15: Atheist are funny people. They live in this delusion that Christians can't think and won't be able to challenge their nonsense ideology. They think they know enough theology to conclude there's no God and scripture is wrong.
Unfortunately , they don't do enough research to test their claims. That's why when they meet knowledgeable Christians, they really struggle. All of them.
You are the one's who think we are unable to challenge your claims which is why you will always claim to have some special kind of knowledge aka divine revelation or wisdom, when in fact you are not any kind of special and neither is your Christian Bible.
