Al Makura is a huge disappointment. He has done nothing to uplift Nassarawa State. It's a big shame. I hope he will lose at the tribunal. |

Reaching out to women in the rural areas SURE-P is working |
I recently put up a topic on the SURE-P intervention in our roads and bridges and how far they've come with pictorial evidences that have dates on them, This effort is put in in order to forestall the presumption that they were fabricated, and also all in an effort to enlighten those that may not have access to such information, and also for the gullible ones out there that have refused to see the light in the darkness. In that same vein i have decided to also beam the search light on the intervention of the SURE-P in the area of Maternal and Child Healthcare(MCH). Now what has been done here by SURE-P includes the employment of midwives to set up mobile centers in rural areas to check on pregnant women, provision of medical advice and counseling on all they need to know to ensure a safe pregnancy and delivery,so as to reduce on the mother/infant mortality rate. Then also is the introduction of what is called Conditional Cash Transfers(CCT) which was done in collaboration with UBA Bank to ensure transparency in the exercise with its main purpose being to provide funds for indigent patients to be able to access treatments and drugs in SURE-P/CCT designated health centers. Also the organization of sensitization tours with medical personnel,in order to enlighten those living in the rural areas especially those whom ordinarily would not have access to such information on expected medical issues that arise in infancy stage and the processes to follow to seek medical assistance in such cases. All these programmes and many more i didn't mention have been rolled out and financed under SURE-P, so i guess i can confidently say that SURE-P is working.

I am very much aware of the fact that no matter the amount of good that you do everybody cannot like you or say well done to you,so bearing that in mind I decided to post this piece. The aim of this piece is to try and enlighten some who do not neccessarily have access to some of the information out there. This piece shows with pictorial evidence some of the achievements of the GEJ administration in the construction of roads and bridges through the subsidy reinvestment programme(SURE-P). The SURE-P intervention in Roads and Bridges has resulted in a number of significant turn-around in the pace of critical road infrastructure provision. For instance, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Ore-Shagamu, Kano-Maiduguri and the East-West Road Section 3 (PH to Eket) roads, have recorded appreciable progress following the investment made by SURE-P on them. The on-going strategic roads include, the Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja Dual Carriageway (200 km 75% completed) Benin-Ore-Sagamu Dual Carriageway (295 km 90% completed) Onitsha-Enugu-Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway (317km under construction), and the Kano-Maiduguri Dual Carriageway (510km 90% completed). In addition, the SURE-P intervention mandate on roads and bridges extends to ensuring the construction and completion of the 2km Oweto Bridge.

This group may be right that the oil companies are not meeting up with their CSR obligations. Most of the road projects cited are state roads and you can't blame FG for not intervening. Bayelsa state receives huge allocations. They should put their State Govrrnment and LGA's to task. Jonathan cannot do everything for them. He is president of Nigeria, not Bayesa |
Bukkyade: As far as I'm concerned, Obasanjo should not be mentioned in the same breadth with Jonathan. If there is no other thing that I'm happy for Jonathan, I am very happy for the new state of Enugu Airport. Ethiopian Airlines now fly directly from Enugu to China. Obasanjo did not give any attention to that Airport. It was dilapidated and was even less beautiful than the ABC transport park in Enugu. I will vote Jonathan in 2015 whether they like it or not. |
Bukkyade: The entire 42 Billion is not upto half of what FG is spending on East-West road alone in the South South. FG is trying. We must cut some slack for them. It is not easy given the modest revenue available for all of these projects. After tight budgeting, Ministry of Works had about 184B allocated to them for road networks across the country in 2013.You are right. I recall that Former President Obasanjo awarded East-West road in 2006 at the cost of 347B. He mobilised them with about 1.2B and that was it for years causing the contractors to abandon site. When Jonathan came in and wanted to take up the construction of the road, he saw that the money was too much and beyond the budgetary capacity of Feceral Ministry of Works. He had to move the road to Ministry of Niger Delta affairs under Orubebe for funding. Even that one is complaining of Funding. |
Mr Op, thanks a lot for this YOUWIN Topic. I will follow up ASAP. |
The hypocrisy of these Governors is mind boggling. They will steal money and come out to accuse Jona's FG. Is it not the same SURE P funds which the Amaechi led NGF is making noise about? How come Sule Lamido has the moral vertebrae to criticise GEJ of missing funds when he's actually the one who is evaporating this money. We are in trouble in this country. The same people masquerading as saints are the ones looting us dry. |
trillville: It is like you have also forgotten it was over $30 billion in 2007 when Obasanjo left. The ECA was meant to save money for Nigeria to use when oil prices drop. Oil prices did drop in 2008 to about $40 per barrel, hence the depletion of the ECA.As at 2010, when GEJ took over as President, the ECA stood at barely 5.4B. The 36 Governors asked for some money to be shared from the account and it was practically difficult for GEJ to refuse because he was still new in office. The end result was the further depletion of ECA to $3B. However, Between 2011-12, Okonjo Iweala was drafted to increase back the ECA from 3B to 10B. She also set up the SWF which was to replace ECA but the Governors fough against the move. As a halfway measure, Jonathan went ahead to establish SWF but retained ECA in the interest of the governors. |
trillville: Of course Ameachi knows that the money is being shared to augment for the shortfall. His attack is simply meant to bring out the fact the gej's incompetent leadership has led to a shortfall in oil revenues at a time when Brent crude has being selling for about $110 and is bench marked at less than $80. That is About $30 per barrel should be entering the excess crude account every day.You easily forgot that it was GEJ that built back the excess crude account from about $3 billion in 2009 to $10b dollars in 2013. GEJ was the one who fought and established SWF for savings and investments for the rainy days. You would recall that $1 billion dollars was withdrawn from ECA as seed capital for SWF. If not for the greed of Amaechi and co, nothing would have happened to ECA. If they could shun politics and allow excess revenue from oil flow into SWF, it would help the future. |
1025: in democracy, opposition is legal and they are called watch-dogs. they make the govt to always be careful with what they do. the opposition work day and night to expose the weaknesses of the govt and by so doing, the govt tries her best to deliver but what do we have hear? once anyone asks question, wow, he is a thief, a betrayal and ants and pigs will form groups to attack that one and by so doing obtain govt illegal and criminal contracts. it is a shame. What are you saying? The fact that you are an opposition or watchdog doesn't mean you should fabricate lies against those in government. The moment you attack a govt with accusations that you know are extremely false, you are no longer a watch dog but a witch hunter. How dare Amaechi accuse FG of stealing $5B from excess crude Account whereas he is the one who led other Governors to demand for payments from ECA in a bid to shore up allocation shortfalls? This is what I hate about politicians. They lie a lot just to score a point. |
russellino: Stinking animal is probably scared that his past excesses will be exposed some more. Like when the dope fiend left a bill of N400 million for the ministry of aviation to pick up after running up hotel, champagne and LovePeddler billsThe rogue called FFK knows that his conviction for money laundering and corruption by EFCC for his misdeeds in office as Aviation Minister is wrapped up in the womb of time hence this ranting to seek attention of the FG. But it won't work. His matter is in court already. And he will surely be convicted. These are yesterday's rogues masquerading as activists because Jonathan resolved to do away with them. Who is Fani Kayode to talk about performance in the face of his dismal outing as Aviation Minister? Unlike Stella, FFK didn't as much as change one single seat in any airport talkess of remodelling a single terminal. He joined his brothers Borishade and co to loot the 100B Aviation intervention Fund. We know them and so we don't take their statements seriously. |
Maku the eloquent, back to bedazzle.one thing I like maku for is how he presents his speeches,I tell you he is in better grasp of English language than all our foreign trained ministers,am watching him now live on NTA.but I wonder why all these industries are beign cited in kogi state.so many job producing industries.and look at the size of those silos,Agric transformation on course. |
Arobam: If you had little intelligence left in you, you would appreciate that the Budget in question is barely 5 Months old.Pls dnt drag NOI into this. That woman hasn't done anything wrong. She is managing our nation's finances well. She knew ths situation will come up and that was why she packaged 2013 budget timeously in October 2012 and GEJ forwarded it to the national assembly. After GEJ presented 2013 Budget, it took those legislators over 5 months to pass it. And even when they did, they padded up the budget with all Sorts of capital heads. The essence of early presentation of the Budget 2013 was to avoid this delay in implementation. But the lawmakers defeated this essence due to the late passage and have turned round to criticise implementation. Hypocrites! |
And the silos I forgot to add are also existing. The agric transformation of GEJ is not just air,it has real substance,it is really going on,very soon the farmers in kogi will be balling hard, like seriously, affordable fertilisers,no interest loans and grants for specific crops, silos for storage provided, and then standard rice mills to be installed soon....agricultural revolution is about to happen and kogi state is one of the states that will benefit immensenly from it. |
The last time I was in kogi which was about a month ago I heard about the ongoing strike, but then labour strikes though it is not encouragable still it is not peculiar to just kogi state or even Nigeria at large.I also saw the Geregu power plant that was just commissioned by the president, quite an imposing layout,I also then saw the accellerated rice paddy and I hear all these projects have been undertaken by the FG,I really commend the ingenuity of this tour because now at least people have the ability to form first hand your own personal perspective on the performance index of our govt, really an innovative idea by Maku and his team. |
Sincerely, I must commend mr President for the way he handled this ASUU strike. Right from the first day it started, he has deployed subtle negotiations and diplomacy to seek an end to it. The climax of it all was his decision to meet with ASUU directly yesterday. I understand this is the first time a Nigerian President is engaging in such a direct meeting with ASUU. I can't wait to hear an official announcement suspending the strike. |
I commend President Goodluck Jonathan for exposing all the dirt that has been hideen under the carpet of govt for so long. Former heads of states failed woefully to address this endemic corruption in the system which has bedeviled national development. Expectedly, GEJ will come under heavy criticisms by those who benefit from the corruption in the system so I'm not surprised. |
IGR-20B. Monthly allocation- 22B IGR + Monthly allocation= Owambe for Tinubu in an urban jungle called Lagos where people pay tax for enjoying any little social amenity. EKO ONI BAJE OOOO |
ndufrank: This is one of the good reasons why GEJ must continue to rule, lead, govern and guide us till 2019.I can't help but agree with you. GEJ is doing well. I was one of those who had serious doubts about the ability of the Kolade led SURE P to deliver but I have been proved wrong with the level of work so far. I just hope they will complete this road project so that Nigetians will drive through that road happily. |
The power equation in Nigeria must be balanced. I support GEJ to continue. Besides, he's not doing badly. |
ASUU is gradually loosing the sympathy of so many Nigerians and that of the students. It is high time they suspend this strike and go back to their classrooms. Even if FG pays them 1 trillion(which is impossible), it won't stop them from exploiting students in the name of textbooks and handouts. |
... And why didn't Maku take money from his Ministry's budget, instead of extorting money from the state Governments?? Feeding, lodging and logistics for over 120 people for 3 days... Do you know how much is that?? Multiply by 36 and tell me its not a wasteful Jamboree.. Tell me, how many states has Maku and his choir visited and how much has been spent on their upkeep??
To my knowledge I think they have been to 12 states or so and 3of those states opposition states, how come we don't hear of excesses or complaints coming from any of them,I mean if the most ECONOMICALLY PRUDENT governor in Nigeria being Peter Obi of Anambra State did not complain, even Enugu whose governor was absent and so the deputy was in his stead did not complain,if the cost was that much I think the deputy governor of Enugu would have asked to be exempted and everybody would understand, how much does it cost to put 120 people in hotel lodgings, and feed them morning and night for three days, please stop making a mountain out of a mole hill,or was it not an ACN speaker of house assembly that took was it fifty r so women to London for shopping, this tour on the other hand is for our benefits cos it gets to keep this governors on their fetes,I mean can't you see some of them already getting jittery, |
doctokwus: I wonder y nobody has noted d point made by d CAN spokesperson dat its funny seeing a minister appointed by a party in power going to showcase projects executed by anoda party! It was also funny seeing Labaran Maku chiding contractors for poor execution& giving ultimatums wen he doesn't evn know d contract terms& conditions! You just showed the level to which your brain can reason, please next time consider what youve typed before you post, for crying out loud what is the big deal in getting terms of contracts for any project, like duhhh,we have something called FOI bill in law,if you don't know what it means it means FREEDOM OF INFORMATION bill, meaning you are privy and entitled under the law as a citizen of this country to the terms and conditions of any contract undertaking by any level of government in this country, all you need do is ask and research and yet you daft slowpoke will still come out to say that the MINISTER OF INFORMATION does not know the terms of a contract, brother seriously ARE YOU A LEARNER!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Guess you didn't see this part as well...
And who told you this tour was about the governors reporting to the presidency, the ministry of information came out with a proposal and forwarded to the governors who had every right to shoot it down, reject it and throw it out the window, but they all sat together, deliberated on it and decided within themselves that it was a credible venture and so they gave the go ahead for it to proceed,so how is this the FG asking the governors to report to it. |
This is what happens when you leave first generation octogenarians to speak on your behalf, the man is so set in his olden days beliefs that he refuses to see the error of his ways, they mistake mediocre ness for criticisms, the ACN governors that are known to spend thriftily on inconsequentials are now complaining because it has come to show me what you have done.but it's not Lai's fault anyway,he normally has to make such utterances so that he can seem to be still relevant in the scheme of thing.and anyway. The esteemed governor of Delta state Dr Uguaghan has come out to say the tour was unanimously agreed upon by all the governors regardless of party affiliations. |
The worst part is that oshiomole keeps on saying tax payers money as if he has generated any money from his IGR,what money has he raised from tax,or is he not spoon fed from the Fed treasury like other state governors, the Fed Govt gave him the monies and funds he spends and so have the right to send its Minister of Information to check on the utilization of those funds and report it to the whole wide world, oshiomole should please climb down his high horse and stop turning a tour that started out as a neutral affair into a politicized one,if he claims he has done a lot of work let him let them come and show it to the world, afterall it will end up beign to his own benefit if all his projects are for real. |
Mallamabdul: My own list is as follows: SAHARA REPORTERS ought to be number 1. Good list though. |
ballabriggs: You will lose your job I can assure you. I am writing a strong worded petition to His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, telling him what a fraud, brigand, rogue and swindler the man Labaran Maku is. get a life bro!
