To be honest, I hate everything going oni n the country now. However, I have concluded in my thoughts that you can't have a government function properly in this democratic setting. People have their hands rooted deep in corruption and because it has been the norm, they will fight back with everything they've got. We need the Singapore kind of government. If policies embarked upon will help the country in the long run, then the government should go ahead. I haven't seen a worthy opposition. All I hear is noise. The opposition needs to criticize constructively. Left to PMB, a lot of People would have been in jail by now. But our judicial system wouldn't allow. All in the name of rule of law. People that there's more than enough evidence showing that they committed the crimes they are accused of. So it's really difficult runningt he country they way we expect PMB to run it. |

Apart from feuds between music celebrities and popular political rows, a major talking point for 2016 so far in Nigeria has been the case of the deadly disease – The Lassa Fever. Lassa Fever (Lassa Hemorrhagic Fever) is an acute and often fatal viral disease, with fever. The Lassa Fever is usually acquired from infected rat. This has been spread to different parts of Nigeria with a couple of recorded deaths already. Unlike the case of the Ebola virus, no one knows how it spread into Nigeria and it has become imperative to keep surroundings clean and free from all types of rats. As expected, the rate of purchase of rat gums and poisons have soared and hand sanitizers will also be in huge demand. However, a very surprising aspect is the conversation figures that Lassa Fever has generated online from the 1st of January till now. Putting into consideration, the fact that 2016 has been a busy year so far with different and twisted stories, Lassa Fever has topped the conversation. A whooping 1.4 billion potential impressions have been generated with Twitter taking about 99% of the whole conversation. Of course, general conversation tone on Lassa fever has been quite negative. Popular music celebrity @I_am_Dbanj has racked up over 140 retweets on his tweet on keeping environment clean – making him the second most influential Twitter author for the Lassa Fever in Nigeria after @adeyanjudeji. There obviously will be a lot of talk as regards what to expect – either as a digital entrepreneur or a brand with an eye for digital engagement. Here are our observations: Online Monitoring: 2016 will spark the rise of online monitoring in Nigeria. As a brand, you are constantly looking to spend less and gain optimal value from campaigns. This further buttresses why online PR is very important. It’s becoming glaring that understanding what your customers say about you and where they say it solves about 50% of your brand issues. It’s an outright win. You save costs by taking out the unnecessary spends and focus on what and where will get you more conversion. Nowadays, customers do not tell you if they have an issue with your product, they tell their friends – who could also have been ‘potential customers’. As brands get more conscious about their spending (especially with the economic issues facing the country), it will become necessary to rely on in-depth brand analysis more often. With the CyberSurfer, brand keywords and sentiments are recorded. CyberSurfer gives the much needed in-depth study into what customers actually say about your brand. View the study on Alomo Bitters here. E-Commerce: With e-giants such as Jumia and Konga becoming household names in the e-commerce space, and the arrival of Yudala in 2015, it is very certain that e-commerce is on a rise in Nigeria. If these brands aren’t getting the needed responses, they won’t be investing so much in operation of their e-commerce business. You probably should take a look at e-commerce in Nigeria if you want to start off a business. But remember, it’s a capital intensive business and requires a lot of investment. Online Video: It’s been on a steady increase since 2014. Instagram has contributed to it’s rise. Like we say – If a picture tells a thousand words, a video tells an entire story. Videos pass across more information than text and pictures. Short online video clips are in vogue. If you haven’t caught the vibe as a brand, you might just play catch up soon. It’s no co-incidence that How-To searches on Youtube continue to grow by 70% year on year. For Facebook, you must have noticed that your timeline has been overtaken by short video clips – which now auto-play when you scroll. This means that Facebook’s algorithm now favors video content over text and image content. Creative Digital Campaigns: With 2015 marking the lowest attention span of online users, no online user is interested in brand messages. If your brand has a huge budget for digital campaigns, you just might not get as much output and response from the online community if you solely focus on buzz and brand messages. The idea is to creatively tie your brand to interesting conversations. Your top of the funnel content must be intellectually divorced from your product but emotionally wed to it. – Joe Chernov – the VP of Marketing, Hubspot Simply put, if you want to capture this Nigerian audience, provide interesting content and leave out your brand messages. A perfect example – Pepsi’s Long Throat Bottle Campaign. We will see more of these campaigns this year. In conclusion, we foresee a dip in digital spend for brands. This is not a bad thing but brands will adopt prudent digital spending. Unnecessary campaigns are bound to reduce and more creative campaigns will spring up. This leaves the challenge for Digital agencies to show how much value they can offer and affect the bottom-line of brands that they work for. http://digicraft.ng/2016-digital-trends-brands/ |
Nice write up! However, I wouldn't say they are the most important. I agree with Social Media and PPC but SEO? By SEO, I would like to refer to Google as the major search engine. As I always say, SEO is dying. Google's Panda algorithm doesn't favour SEO tactics as it used to. Unique and consistent content continually thumps SEO tactics. Google is all about providing fresh and relevant content to audiences, so if your website doesn't include new and relevant content on a constant basis, no matter how super your SEO skills are, you just may not get the results that you need... And that's where content marketing comes into play. By the way, if you are talking about the most important arms of digital marketing without mentioning mobile marketing, I think I'll disagree with you. Mobile usage in Nigeria is about 150 million. It'll be important to include mobile as a core part of digital marketing ![]() |
I have had quite some people ask me about this question – Will people click on my banner ads? While it’s very easy to answer, it’s not that straight forward. Of course what comes to your mind is – if it’s quite attractive and informative, people will click. However there is a massive decline in ad clicking. It almost seems that online users (identified by contextual targeting) are not interested in clicking on your ads. I can’t remember seeing anyone who clicked on the first 3 sponsored results on Google search engines and some analyzed heat maps from banner ads reflect this worrisome issue. http://digicraft.ng/is-paid-advertising-dying/

Anytime I see Nigerians do things like this, I'm always very proud. I recently ordered for a shoe (brogues... As I heard they are called) from Mexioni. I haven't met him before and I have never done business with him prior to this time. Your comments made me try him out. I got them yesterday. I must say they are gorgeous... And to think that the price is just right. Really impressed! @Mexioni: Keep up the good work. Like I told you yesterday, I'm ordering the next set of shoes today. I'll whatsapp you immediately!

I'll just chip in a popular saying amongst journalists.... Is it true and Is it fair to all concerned? |
I'm still surprised that these guys have not been sent to jail already? What other EVIDENCE do you need? Are you waiting for the video recordings of the transactions before you people act? These HEDIOTS have stolen the country blind and have so much money to unsettle any government. WHAT RUBBISH!!! |

Bro, it's simple. It's a mistake. You forget that it's not only over the counter that people transfer money these days. It could be online banking. I mistakenly (well, that was what they said) transferred 20k to someone in Firstbank from my GTBank account via online banking. Firstbank actually did well by even contacting you to refund the money. GTBank said I should contact the person and appeal to him to refund the money and there is nothing they can do. This is someone I don't know from Adam. I don't even have his contact details except for his full name. I even opened a thread about this but it never made frontpage. That was how my 20k went. So you can go report to the bank and have the money transferred back. iykbethany: |
Are you kidding me? And I was there playing with A.Y and Akpororo on Tuesday. I didn't know those ladies were part of our football team. No wonder they were so confident on the ball. The girl in red scored up to 5 goals that day. A very good poacher I must say. |
camsel:Can I pay in installments? Like twice? What's the mileage? |
It's from BBC's twitter handle. Congratulations to every Nigerian who made this possible and a minute of silence to those who lost their lives to make sure this happens.

Afam4eva:This has been the BEST comment so far on this thread. Nigerians either have amnesia or are just too sentimental. If you watched the Nations Cup critically, you will find out that the only game that Nigeria played good football was against Mali. The other games were just plain luck; or I would say, a high spirit. It had nothing to do with the coach. I didn't hear word when we won the Nations Cup . Everyone labelled Keshi as the best tactical master and others said his decision not to choose certain players meant he knew what he was saying blah blah blah. However it is this same Nigerians that are shouting for him to go. When a team has a high spirit and the backing of their fans, they are very hard to defeat. Not that they are the best, or their coach is fantastic, but they are 'gingered'. Look at Real Sociedad against a star studded Real Madrid, Look at Liverpool against AC Milan (2005 Champs league final). The goal keeping at the Nations Cup was awful. I was so embarrassed. Could you tell me what pattern of play Nigeria had in the Nations Cup? There was no tactic. No style, no progression of play. Only give the ball to an in-form Emenike and he will bully his way to the goal. Mschew. Now you want Keshi to go. Bloody Hypocrites! This is the time that I even wanted him to stay. I am not a fan of Keshi or even Nigerian football. But now I feel he should stay because of his AFCON glory. By the way, if you call that past glory, then that was a past glory that u didnt have a couple of years back, even with foreign coaches. So you all should just shut up or follow European football jeje. |
cremeandchic: Hi bily, i use Windows 7Don't be too quick to judge the company. I am also a Smile user and I had the same problem exactly 2 months after I bought their device. I actually switched off my device and when I switched it on, about 500MB had gone. I went to their office and even caused a scene. But when they showed me and even did a live example for me, I finally knew that it wasn't their fault. I had to apologise. The thing is, if your have all these updates pending, when you switch it back on, it starts downloading the updates and in a couple of minutes, your data could be gone. However, If it's not updates, it could be torrents. That internet downloaded a 2GB file in 30 minutes. I was shocked to my bones. And even if you are not downloading anything on torrents, mere leaving it open could result in seeding (uploading) and that could upload at the same speed like downloads. I will advise that you go to their office and ask how that happened. Coming here and trying to bring them down is not right. Let's be frank. Spectranet is no match for the Smile speed. But you need to be careful about your usage. #Peace |
DeepSoul: Check your transaction history on your internet banking profile. It usually shows all incoming and outgoing transfers. My question is; how could I have transferred the money to someone who is not registered on my portal. I quite understand that I could have made a mistake by transferring money to another registered beneficiary, but when it comes to transferring money to someone that I never registered, then that is a problem. I asked them to give me scenarios of cases that validated that one could transfer to someone without registering them, they couldn't. That is where I am shocked. |
bedfordng: you should have used the instant transfer option that takes within seconds.gtbank has enabled the instant transfer for savings account holder,so you can use it.more over, did you click the get name of the account holder before proceeding to the using of the token.even at the token page, you should have also crossed check the name of the person to know if its wrong or not.i always cross check name of the account holder on the token page before i transfer money.your best shot should be going to gtbank branch to make a complain and show them the exact name you saved on their platform for the transfer and cross check the account number with the one that was wrongly credited.at times some names may be same with some ones else name but the account number may differentiate it,so go to gtbank branch closer to you and show them the name and account number you stored on their internet banking platform for cross checking.I just used the instant transfer feature. I never know that I could do that. Thanks bro. |
eldega: Thats it......Thanks bro. But I don't seem to understand how I could transfer to a non registered user. It is not about the money now. It just goes to tell me that their platform is not safe anymore. If my money can be transferred to another person's account when I don't have him registered on my portal. That's scary! |
samuelson06: I don't think the op need to go farther than this to complain. But I also think they should have their bank name added on google alert so that at every mention, they get alert. I bet you they are aware of this thread. But then I have been using their web app to transfer and never experience this and I don't know them to be a type of bank that should give customers such response. Maybe the cc person just didn't know what he/she should say. The only thing I just hate about them is that their NEFT transfer takes unnecessarily longer before the beneficiary would receive alert. Zenith Bank is instant with even less charges and again their card can be used on a third party site like quickteller for still instant transfer. But GTB would only let you transfer I think below 20k using quickteller and then you can't use quickteller again. My next bus stop I think is going to be Diamond Bank.I am definitely going to Diamond bank afterwards. |
puskin: @OP......I don't understand something. Please, enlighten me.I use a Savings account and so, I was made to understand that there is no instant transfer. That's why I have been using NEFT |
aboyaji: but, e be like say op d vex o. Just read the last paragraph. Na vex be that oBro, I'm so upset. It's the way the customer care guys behave in a non challant way |
Mods please bear with me, I'm too upset that I don't know where to place this. On the 27th of August, I transferred some amount of money to someone in Firstbank via NEFT Transfer. I already had his name registered on my online portal and had transferred money to him previously. However, I selected his name and paid the money. NEFT transfer usually take 24-48 hours before the beneficiary can see the alert so I decided to chill. On the 1st of September, the beneficiary calls me to say he hasn't received the money. I was worried so I called GTBank customer care. After about 15 minutes of 'waiting in line' and listening to their boring adverts, I finally was able to speak to a customer care representative. I explained to her my challenge and she did a quick check on my account, only to tell me that I transferred the money to a another person's account. She told me the name of the person that I transferred the money to. (The person also is a Firstbank recepient) Now, I quite understand that if I mistakenly transferred the money to another registered beneficiary on my portal. But I never registered that name on my GTBank portal, talkless of transferring the money to him. So I asked a simple question: Can you transfer money to a beneficiary who is not registered on your portal? Their response was NO! I now asked how manage I was able to transfer money to him. The customer care reps could not answer. They kept telling me the same thing that I mistakenly transferred money to the account and that there was nothing they could do. I called the customer care guys in Firstbank and they actually confirmed that the money came into the wrong beneficiary's account and he has withdrawn it. So I was advised to ask my darling bank GTBank, to put a lien on the account so that once funds go into it, they can reverse the transfer. I wrote a mail explaining all these and their response was: Kindly contact the beneficiary for possible refund. Now, I don't even know the account number of the person that they claimed that I mistakenly sent the money to talkless of his phone number. I sincerely want you guys to honestly judge this issue. As far as I am concerned, the GTBank guys are either playing games, or just plain lazy and don't want to do anything. As soon as this is over, I am closing down the account. |
Lstar4real: @ Lucarella email sent..... Am looking forward to hear from you thanksThanks alot boss. Sorry for the initial posting of my email. UBA yeah? |

[b]They impound cars on that road anyhow, for real and imaginary offences and then take the motorist to their office before compelling him to pay fines ranging from 50,000 naira to 250,000 naira. No be joke, o!
