Direct primaries-
All APC candidates must go through direct primaries
Even Ambode had to go through this in 2015 ...
Ambode is not the only one in Lagos State who is qualified to be the Governor of Lagos State
Ambode can also meet with all the council chairman and present his case for a second term and those of you who
believe he has done well can lineup behind him come Saturday.
Case closed.

The President said Pa Fashola’s death was depressing that is why such a condolence visit to Fashola has been arranged.

“When we heard about the death of the father of the Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Ademola Fashola, we felt very sad because I know that this is the period that we need his presence most, especially parents that will assist one in handling a number of responsibilities. That was why I told my Chief of Staff that we must pay the Governor of Lagos State, his wife a visit.

“Immediately I heard the news that your father has passed on, I called your phone and I was told that you were airborne coming back from Saudi Arabia where you had gone for Umrah, the Muslim lesser hajj,” he said.

The President stated it was sad for Babatunde Fashola to have lost his father at this point, noting that “We must also thank God for the life that he had lived. But we were indeed happy that our father, though, had left us at a very painful moment, has also lived a fulfilled life.

“He had lived to maturity. But most especially, he had been able to replace himself tenfold before departing. You (Fashola) and your siblings are still with us. So many people didn’t have the opportunity of replacing themselves before departing.”

Jonathan added that as the nation mourned the passing away of Fashola’s father, he believed that God who brought him and took him away at this time would provide for the family and cushion the pains that his death might have caused.

“I also pray that all the holes and gaps that his death must have caused, may almighty Allah fill them,’ he prayed.

Governor Fashola thanked the President and his entourage for the visit, saying his family felt truly honored that “We are one of the few who received the privilege of your personal presence and the members of your entourage.”

Wife of Rivers State Governor, Mrs Judith Amaechi has paid a condolence visit to the King Perekule’s residence of the late Charity Obah, mother of the First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan.

Mrs Amaechi who was accompanied by the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru and top government functionaries and their spouses had earlier received Dame Patience Jonathan at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The governor’s wife in her condolence message described late Mrs Charity Obah as a woman who has made appreciable contributions to the development of the nation.

She prayed God Almighty to grant the Obahs family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

On learning about the death of her mother in a ghastly motor accident on the East-West road, the first lady had to cut short her foreign trip, making U-turn to the country, then to Rivers State where the late Mrs Charity Obah hails from.

Politics / FG To File Defence In Lekki-ikoyi Bridge Suit by Lugano(m): 12:45am On Jul 11, 2013

The Federal Government, through the National Inland Waterway Authority, is to file its defence in a suit before a Federal High Court, Lagos, challenging the imposition of tolls on the Lekki-Ikoyi Suspended Bridge.

The Federal Government made this request last Friday, a development which was part of the reasons the court was unable to deliver judgment on Tuesday, as it had earlier scheduled.

Justice Saliu Seidu, who granted the FG’s request, has, therefore, fixed November 4, 2013, for a mention.

A civil rights lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, had filed the suit, asking the court to declare unconstitutional the state government’s construction of a bridge on a federal waterways and the imposition of tolls on users of the same bridge.

While the state government and its Attorney-General, Mr. Ade Ipaye, both defendants in the suit, participated in the hearing of the suit on April 30, 2013, FG, also a defendant, failed to show up.

But counsel for the FG, Mrs. Queen Uba, appeared in court on July 5, pleading with the court for more time to file her papers in respect of the case.

Uba also noted that her client had not been served with the processes of the state government and the state’s attorney-general, a claim which the court confirmed to be true.

The court also heard arguments on the request by Adegboruwa, seeking the court to allow him to file additional facts, which were not available as of April 30, 2013, when the matter was heard and adjourned till July 9 for judgment.

Ipaye, who appeared for his office and the state, opposed Adegboruwa’s fresh application, after which the court adjourned for ruling.

After the court adjourned till July 5 for judgment, Governor Babatunde Fashola on May 29 inaugurated the bridge, declaring it as a toll bridge.

Adegboruwa subsequently filed the application seeking the court to permit him file additional affidavit to show that toll collection had commenced on the bridge while judgment on its propriety was being awaited.

In an affidavit supporting the application to file additional evidence, he stated that the inauguration of the bridge and the subsequent commencement of toll collection on it, was meant to “undermine and over-reach” the case

The factional leader of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang, has said he is not quarrelling with Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State insisting that he is too old for such squabbles.

Speaking to journalist at the sideline of the dinner organised by President Goodluck Jonathan to celebrate his mid-term in office, Mr Jang said he is old enough to be Mr Amaechi’s father.

He said, “Amaechi is my younger brother, infact, I can say son because if you look at Amaechi’s age, I’m old enough to be his father.”

Ask to respond to Mr Amaechi’s statement that he polled 19 to defeat him at the NGF elections, Mr Jang said, “Well, that is his problem but I know that I am the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.”

Mr Amaechi defeated Mr Jang of Plateau by 19 votes to 16 last month to re-emerge as the forum’s chairman. Mr Jang, alongside 15 other governors have since formed a parallel forum.

Jang is undemocratic

Mr Amaechi, who had earlier presided a brief meeting of 15 governors at the Rivers State Governor’s lodge, had referred to Mr Jang as ‘undemocratic’ for refusing to accept the result of the NGF election.

Also speaking to reporters at the presidential dinner party, the Rivers State governor said, “Anybody who support him, including the television house is undemocratic.

“I have said it in a statement that at any point in time, we can’t accept 19 governors against 16, then we are afraid of 2015.”

Asked if he was suspended from his political party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – for refusing to step down for Governor Jang, Mr Amaechi said, “If the party is suspending me for that reason, then too bad; the party too must learn to be democratic.

“I’m not aware that the party has given any reason for suspending me but if they say this is the reason then it is too bad. The party is yet to give me any reason for my suspension, but if that’s the reason that means the party is undemocratic.”
Politics / BREAKING: PDP Cancels Suspension Of Sokoto Governor by Lugano(m): 4:06pm On Jun 17, 2013
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday rescinded its decision suspending the Sokoto State governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
The decision to withdraw the suspension slammed on Mr. Wamakko followed appeals from the PDP Governors Forum led by the Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio.
Mr. Wamakko was last week suspended from the PDP for alleged anti-party activities and disrespecting the party’s National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur.
The governor’s suspension was announced while he was on a trip abroad, coming barely one week after the party announced the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, also for alleged anti-party activities, specifically regarding his role in the sacking of 17 councillors, the Chairman and his deputy in Obi Apkor Local Government Area of the state.
