I hear you GeargeD. It boggles my mind why anyone in west, north or East Africa would want to be on the dark side. You have nilesat 201, 101, AB7, Yahsat and a certain astra ABD which only shines on that side. With a big dish you can even get hotbird. But with us further down south of the equarter we only have religious and music channels here. The choice is either BB or the dark side.

@people, why are you forcing Cband LNBs mearnt for 1.8m to 3m prime focus dishes on 90cm offset dishes? is it to save cost or space? Discussions on this subject on other forums indicates that this approach usually catches the strongest transponders and misses the rest.

Its D-day today, Zambia Chipolopolo VS Ghana Black stars! This should be the best game at the tournament. I predict a 4-4 draw at full time.

@All, I have a question to the Gurus on the C-band LNBF. What baffles me is how to put the teflon for circular signals. Inside the throat of the LNBF you will notice that there are two probes which are the antenas. On the walls you will notice that are are two pairs of grooves for the teflon, which means there are two ways of putting the teflon. One way puts both probes on one side and the other puts one probe on each side of the teflon. When do you put the teflon one way and not the other?

Funny because the old TP for MGM on w2a is still green but showing nothing. Thanks I will rescan w2a. what about film max on paksat 1r 38degrees. Are you able to pick it? The TP is also green but showing nothing.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 10:42am On Jan 11, 2012
@all, MGM is not showing on w2a. has it shifted to another sat?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 11:34am On Dec 16, 2011
Thanks George D.

MBC tp (11938v, 27500sr). This MBC is which one, nilesat or NSS 7? I couldnt locate that TP on Lyngsat under AB7 or NSS 7. Maybe I was too fast?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 9:16am On Dec 16, 2011
@All, a question for those who have nabbed AB7: What quality are you getting on sirius 4 (Astra 4a) and w3a and on which TPs (just one TP per sat)?

I want to give AB7 a short this week end. My game plan is as follows:

1. Tweak my KU LNB to maximum quality for sirius 4 and w3a using the quality from you guys who have nabbed AB7 as reference. If I cant achieve this quality then  I will know that probably AB7 is out of reach.

2.  Lock my positioner around AB3  using C band and then concentrate my AB7 KU search within 10 centimeters below that position since AB7 is just 2 degrees below AB3.

How does that sound?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 8:01am On Dec 01, 2011
@pidzo, revert your STB to SRT4930_all_117p_20111004. All the latest software upgrades up to 119p have an audio problem with the aljazeera mux audio.

@ vicyear4us,

To be helped you need to specify the sat you were tracking.

@all, I will be visiting Ethiopia this coming week. Are there any ethiopians in the house? Since Ethiopia is near the middle east whats the availability of FTA equipment in Addis?

Come on Ethipians! I am waiting! Or maybe there is no big deal about FTA there because you can get nilesat with a 0.9 db LNB on an offset frying pan?  grin

@All, a comment on the Optima sport versus 1 music issue on AB3.

Last evening I scanned the two TPs given above and  got optima sport on both of them showing a Man U game. As soon as the game finished both channels changed and started showing 1 Music videos. This means the two channels aternate on the same TPs.

I am in Southern Africa and I have learnt alot from my West African friends here on the forum. They are on the other side of the equator which means the language has to be decoded. When they say w3a is to the right of Sirus I know for me it means to the left of Sirus. When they say your dish mount should face south I know for me it means north. It gets interesting because when they say the LNB skew is 6 oclock it is indeed 6 oclock for me also, but when they say it should be 2 oclock for me perhaps it should be 10 oclock. Ocourse up is up and down is down. They talk about combining Sirus with Astra 2b, I nail sirus but astra 2b is no where to be found for me. Luckily for the sats we have in common, most of the  frequencies are the same so we can share. Once in a while they write in english which I cant find in any dictionary, but surprisingly sometimes i am able to decode that as well.

Hay we get by.  grin

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 10:07am On Nov 17, 2011
@Pidzo, The lesson is simple: Dont come to the forum to announce discoveries which you are not ready to share because people then can't tell whether you are real or just a practical joker seeking attention. You create unnecessary excitement and anticipation which you fail to fulfill which then turn into frustration. If you want to make money from your discoveries then say so and name the price; dont play hide and seek. This is the mistake IHACKED made.

@moderator, please delete IHACKED's account as he has resigned from the forum.

Thank you.

I get 90% on a 1.2 m dish using an old eurostar lnb . get the skew right first .
cheers
Thanks gkw, I will give it a try next weekend. Currently my LNB skew is between 6 &9 oclock looked from behind the dish, the clock facing me. smiley

@all, is any one in Southern Africa able to pick telstar 12 KU @15W? I cant seem to lock on to it with 1.8m prime focus though I am able to pick w2a. sirius 4 and w3a which are in the vicinity. I am interested in MSNBC.
Reply from GKW:
telstar 12 is loud and clear my bro, for yo msnbc use 11533v3197. pay attention to yo lnb skew 5 o'clock should do. cheers
@GKW, Couldnt hit green yesterday. What is the strongest frequency on this sat? what dish size are you using?

@Ilish, yersterday I loaded the 1.17p 20111017 into my srt4930 stb and funny enough I found that some channels had no sound while other had. Adjusting the audio button made no difference. when I loaded back the previous 1.17p 20111004 sound came back on all channels. Any one else experience this?

@gkw, thanks Bro. I will try the TP. The Beam is centred on South Africa and I am near its endge but I hope I get it.

I think Kungu already gave his thoughts in his second paragraph and then he proceeded like a lawyer to give and interpret the photographic evidence of why he thinks so.

@all, at some point peaple were researching the Spitfire LNB which they said was great but that talk has disappeared. What were the findings of that research? I ask because now the talk is all about Premium HD. Did Spitfire fail the test?

@All, a question. when you put a teflon plate inside the Cband LNB are you able to recieve linear signals as well or do you only recieve circular signals only?

@Enitan2002,

Are you trivialising this important topic? Gearge-D has an (m) after his name as far as I can see. I could be wrong, but calling him Georgina seems like a low blow to me or was it a typo?.
