Has anyone ever tried using an HH motor with C band LNB? I tried last weekend (Cband on 1.35 offset dish) and the LNB couldnt work. The sat finder goes to maximum and stays there and LNB is unresponsive. But when I bypass the HH motor everything is fine. Maybe someone knows a solution to this? By the way I used a strong combined C/KU lnb and the KU part worked but the Cband part behaved as described above.

Zambia can't be eliminated at this stage. They were supposed to have been eliminated by Nigeria but God refused in an inexplicable manner. Now they are going all the way to the final to defend the cup. They haven't lost a single game so far and have usually dominated the games they have drawn. Now all they need is to solve their jinx before goal and rediscover the scoring boots they had at the last AFCON. Today is the beginning of a new dawn.
SportsRe: Egyptian Referee To Be Expelled by Lunsat(m): 7:59am On Jan 28, 2013
That penaulty was a tricky one. I looked at the video again and what I saw is this: The Zambian striker was clearly inside the penalty box with both his feet. He had the ball in front of him and facing the goal keeper in an attacking position. The Nigerian player who was outside the penalty box reaches out and grabs both his arms from behind and pulls him back. The Zambian striker staggers back wards and ends up on his knees with one leg on the line and the other leg outside the box protesting to the referee and a penalty is given.

Interesting reading on this thread. Its like the big boys (Eagles) had taken a break and the small boys (Chipolopolo) took advantage to play with the AFCON championship. Now the big boys are back to claim whats rightfully theirs and the small boys should give way if they know whats good for them. Uuum interesting. I am looking forward to this march. Cheers, Katongo.

I also had no audio on infinity with srt 4930 until I went to system settings, AV, and changed audio to something like PMA then it came. It was at first on Dolby and had no sound. I am not at home now so cant give exact setting but just a pointer for what you should play around with.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Installing A Motorised Satellite Dish System by Lunsat(m): 8:15am On Jan 24, 2013
@GeorgeD, Yes I want both dishes to move at the same time (pointing at the same sat)with one dish dedicated to c band and the other dedicated to KU band. I want to avoid cluttering several lnbs on one dish. I thought dishes moving at the same time can not be avoided as both the HH motor and the positioner are controlled by the same disecq commands from the reciever.

@ Mark33, I thought the HH motor should come before the disecq precisely because it uses power from the decoder. I thought this way I would prevent too much current passing through the disecq as these get burnt easily.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Installing A Motorised Satellite Dish System by Lunsat(m): 4:23pm On Jan 23, 2013
People, I have been toying with the idea of having separate KU and C band dishes controlled by one reciever. See attached diagram. Has anyone tried this? Any possible reasons why it might not work? Uups, I forgot to label the disecq switch.

New Russian satellite to watch was placed into orbit on 8-Dec-2012.

Satellite Name: Yamal 402
Status: active
Position: 55° E (55° E)
Expected lifetime: 15 yrs.
46 Ku-band transponders

It is under going testing now and is tramitting test signals, but they are unmodulated (no FEC or symbol rate) hence dont try to look for it yet. Its Southern KU beam covers the entire sub saharan Africa.

http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=47929

Hopefully within afew months channels like Russia Today might start poping up on it. It was supposed to last for 15 years but because it was, by technical error, placed into orbit 4 minutes earlier than planned it had to burn some fuel to move to the correct position hence life span has been shortened to 11 years.

obnelly: Locating where the focal point is could be the problem.anybody with the formula to calculate offset dish focal lenght?should kindly drop it.so that we can work on it.
There are many A level mathematical explanations on the net, which since I am bad at maths I couldnt figure out. If you are like me, you might find the explanation and free downloadable program for calculating F/D for offset dishes useful here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/719229

Ikiriye: @ lunsat
i will not dispute your claim on offset dishes as regards the just concluded test, basically in nigeria we are mostly used to prime focus dishes except for those that can lay their hands on offset which is hardly in our market with respect to 1.2m and above.from our findings you can see that the samsons are for offset but performed extremely well on prime focus.the one used for our testing was the dual type.i can imagine the samson if it was a quad lnb which means more signal cheers.
@Ikiriye, Thanks Bro. What you say so effectively in your sentence 2 above is what I was trying to say, though my english failed me. If Man U beats Chelsea 4.0 at Old Traford it is to be expected, but if it beats it 4.0 at Stamford bridge it attracts attention.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 10:59am On Sep 25, 2012
@Ikiriye,
I searched for Samson LNB on google and only found two Samsons, one single one dual, both offset lnbs (I.E normal LNBs with no feed horn/ scalar ring provision). If any of these was used for measurements then the point that the other offset lnbs (Avenger, Inverto black ultra, spitfire etc) were outdone because measurements were done on a prime focus dish can not stand.

@All, I came across an advert of a new KU LNBF called DMS Avenger PLL321-S2 that is claimed to do wonders on FTA fridge reception here: http://store.fridgefta.info/?page_id=1490

The technical explanation of why it is supposedly better is here: http://store.fridgefta.info/?p=1558

Is this all just marketing hype, or is it what we have been waiting for? Any one got a clue on this?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 8:00am On Jul 16, 2012
Ilish, well done. Now if only that dish can be motorised it can do wonders. A basic design of a mount is here: http://www.satsig.net/pol_ex1.htm

You only need to modify the design to make it strong enough to carry the weight, such as using gate hinges instead of the clips shown in the piture, and you are done. This is what I plan to do with mine when I get it.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 11:21am On Jul 12, 2012
@Obnelly, what is the base welded on to? I hope it is welded on to the ribs, because the circular ring does'nt look to me strong enough to support the weight of the dish.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 7:44am On Jul 10, 2012
@obnelly, kindly explain again, bro. To most people green means you have nailed the bird, whatever bird, and pictures should show unless it is an empty signal or it is scrambled. How then can it be green and not show any pictures on account of wrong parameters? what parameters?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 10:14am On Jun 21, 2012
@verwegsateliet, Try going to http://www.dishpointer.com/. Enter your location as Windhoek, Namibia. Then click on All Satellites. It should give you a list of all satellites that are above the horizon at your location together with their dish sizes. You then just get those satellites that have a disch size indicated even if it is 500meters big, get TPs from http://www.Lyngsat.com for them and start hunting. I once got a satellile list like this from this site but I failed today because of computer security on my present computer which disables some browser features. Here is an explanation from the dishpointer website help screen:

Which satellites can I receive?
This depends on your location, your dish size and the signal footprints of the satellites. From your location, it is theoretically possible to obtain satellites from an arc range of 160°, that is 80° West and 80° East. Towards the poles, it gets slightly less. But this doesn’t mean that all the satellites within this range broadcast their signals down to your location. Depending on the transponder on the satellite, the signal is beamed to various spots on earth creating the so-called footprints. The center of the footprint has the highest signal strength, the edges the lowest. That means if you happen to be in the center of the footprint, you can have a smaller dish size than if you live to nearer the edge, or the other way around: the further you live from the footprint center, the bigger the dish has to be. The footprint charts provided by the satellite operators are just a rough guide. It’s still possible to receive TV channels outside these displayed footprints – the so-called fringe reception. A good example for fringe reception is the Astra 2D which host popular TV channels such as BBC (BBC1, BBC2) and ITV from the UK (England). The footprint is quite focused on Britain but many expats living in Spain and France can receive these channels by having a large dish. The good thing is that DishPointer takes your location, dish size and signal footprints into account and tells you what satellites you can receive. After entering your address or zip code (postcode) you can click on the ‘Satellites’ tab underneath the map. All the available satellites within the 160° range are shown together with the transponders, footprints and the number of TV, Radio, Data and HD channels, plus the minimum dish size for that satellite beam at your location.

Maybe there ae other websites that can also do this. Others can help.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 1:34pm On May 15, 2012
@obnelly, I suspect each of us has half the answer. Ofcourse some receivers are more sensitive than others, but so are some LNBs. But we were not talking about general sensitivity; we were talking about the "tunnel vision" or "Cliff edge" phenomenon when tracking a signal. My theory was that the problem is more in LNBs that have a narrow view of the dish than those that have a wider view of the dish. Personally I have found that placing a Fuji prime focus LNB at the focal point requires more precision in pointig it to the centre of the dish than placing a Eurostar offset LNB.Its only a theory, I could be wrong.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 10:26am On May 15, 2012
@adex70: I was also irritated by the situation where quality is showing 9% red and you just move the dish one centimetre to the left and quality jumps to 92% green , move another centimetre beyond that and it drops back to 9% red. My theory was that this is typical of the prime focus LNBs like Fuji. My premium x Hd LNB which is for offset dishes gives enough warning that you are near a sat. It never goes below 20% quality when there is no sat but as soon as it goes above 30% you know you are near a sat even if the TP is wrong. However if the problem you described is software related as others say thats news to me.

It is interesting to observe and compare Sopheamore1 on nairaland forum and on RDI forum. On Nairaland which is our own African site Sopheamore1 is known for typing in capitals, he copies the same message 3 times with different colors in the same message, He has been known to get into fights with other members. He rarely discusses real satellite isssues. Over there at the RDI forum which is a Romanian site, he types in small letters and doesnt repeat messages in one post. He doesnt get into fights with other members. His posts are useful and about satellite issues. What is the diference? Is it an attitude of lacking respect for your own people? Is it because he knows the white man over there doesnt tolerate nonsence? Confused regards.

Trek4000, If you are getting intelsat906C (On motrised system) that means your polor mount is facing north, which means your azimuth is correct and your dish is able to look at the bottom right of the clerkbelt arc. Bolt the polar mount to the pole in that position. To get other satellites you need to get the elevation (look up angle) correct as well so that the dish can track the line of satellites in the sky (the clerk belt). To do this, search for a satellite at the top of the arc, which is Arabsat 5a, by swinging the dish left to right while adjusting the elevation. Once you get it then bolt the elevation into position. your dish is now correctly aligned and you should be able toget all satellites just by swinging the dish. Since you are getting 906C I know your current LNB is C band with a dialectric plate in its throat, which means you will be able to recieve only circular polarised C band signals i.e those that have an R or L in the frequency on Lyngsat. Thus you can get 906c, 902c, Arabsat 5a, AB3 and such.

To get signals from satellites that have linear [With V or H in the frequesncy]  on C band  and KU band you need to attach two more LNBs to your dish; a C band LNB without a plate in the thoat and a KU Band lnb. Usually the KU lnb is placed in between the two C band LNBs.The three LNBs should be fixed in a row in such a way that all of them will be crawling along the clerk belt as your dish swings from east to west and back.  This alignment is an art guided by your sat finder. Connect the LNBs to your decoder via a diseqc switch. Configuring the diseqc to your decoder is a different topic but I am assuming you have already done this. I am also assuming you have also already entered valid TPs for each staellite in your decoder. All you need now is to select each satelite one at a time and search for it until the bars turn green on your decoder then you save that position. Tweak the LNBs for maximum signal i.e move lnb in/out and rotate left or right. Once all the sats have been located you then blind scan each to get all the channels. You delete the trush channels and keep the good ones. Once this is done you are king of the skies.

Enjoy.
