hon1977: You knw i,m one of the frustrated man, i bought an mpeg 4 wiztech 288 and managed to track irib channels but the receiver has no patch option. If anyone in the house ever used this receiver pliz tell me how to get that patch option displayed. The seller told me to press menu then 6108 but it only displayed PATCH ENABLE and quickly disappears without leaving option to imput keys,Plz help before i throw the box in the bin.
Sorry bro. I have never owned or used a wiztech decoder but I read somewhere that it can be patched for keys. At the time someone wanted patched sofware to enable him open SABC and he was given this link: http://ast-micsupport.net/

good luck.

obnelly: I doubt if that is possible.remember you still have to use c band on your dish to receive the signal ,what your decoder does is to convert c to ku frequency.
For example after the conversion I tried to move my dish to same satellite using ku band lnb ,but tHe result was zero .so don't bother to use ku band lnb to track the converted dignal it won't work.
I am glad you have explained this because there was a possibility for you being misunderstood. The issue of recieving C band channels using a KU LNB or KU channels using a C band LNB was discussed at another forum and the consensus among the gurus there was that it was impossible.

The reasons given were technical and went something like this: An LNB is a reciever for a fixed block of frequencies, 10.7-12.7 GHz for a KU LNB and 3.7-42GHz for C band LNB. It can never recieve signals outside its assigned frequency range, which means it can not send signals to the decoder which it can't recieve. However both KU and C band LNBs convert their signals to the same intermediate range of frequencies in the L band and send them to the decoder. So the decoder is just an L band reciever. Here is a surprise: The decoder uses the LNB settings information you give it to guess what KU or C band frequency a given L band frequency it is recieving was converted from and it will display this estimate to you. Everything works correctly if you gave it correct LNB setting information, Now suppose you lied to it? It will use that incorrect information in its computation and It will be green on a KU frequency when the incoming signal is actually C band or vice vesa.

Rextab: @odilibe, if convert a c band freq to ku, does this mean that u can be able to track the freq with ku lnb or u stil have to maintain the cband lnb.
?pls shed more light.
This is exactly my question. Can we now with this formula lock on to Cband channels with KU lnb and Ku channels with Cband LNB?

satmaniac: I have a 1.8m in lokoja I want to track nilesat with it,have seen elsewhere in same lokoja 1.8m position on nilesat with d mbcs showing. Since then have been trying to nail dat sat on my 1.8m dish,bt to no avail. What am I doing wrong?could u or any other guru in d house put it down.
@ satmaniac, as @Sulieman3 said, the Gurus in Nigeria, especially from Lokoja, are better placed to assist. what I can say is that if others with similar dish of similar size are getting nilesat in Lokoja and you are not then likely one of the following could be true:
i. The dish may be warped hence not focusing all the signal on the LNB. Take it down, put it on a flat surface upside down and check that all sides are touching down.
1i. Your LNB is not sensitive enough for fringe reception. Get a better lnb such as a Samson or Fuji
iii. The TP maybe inactive. Make sure you are using a working TP. The gurus here will help you.
iv. Your Azimuth, elevation or skew maybe wrong. Go to www.dishpoint.com and enter Lokoja, Nigeria and select nilesat and press enter. A satellite picture of Lokoja will appear which you can focus and adjust until the green dot is over your house. The picture will show you the direction to point the dish from your house. At the bottom of the map you will see the azimuth angle, elevation angle, and the LNB skew angle which you should use to adjust your dish and LNB settings.

When Everything is correct at your dish start your hunt and you will lock on to nilesat.

All the best.

kyleege: here in southern africa irib is one of the easiest if you track with 4055 v 27500 and get the highest signal possible(1.8m dish), then enter irib tp.
Apparently the full IRIB package is also on Chinasat 12 @ 87.5E

12705H22500 DVB-S/8psk mpeg 4
12705h22000 DVB-S/ mpeg 2

The signal covers the middle of Africa from Sudan to the bottom of Tanzania. My dish cant tilt that far down but those who can can try.

pboy2buzy: Firstly....I v tried my decoder in my friends place,it worked perfectly well jst(pickin all sat on board)

Secondly I have no disecq on my system(I removed it as a result of d current experiment)

I have two lnbs,One dual and one single(both gives same result

Don't knw if d nature of my dish(mesh) contributes to this.
There is no space for tweaking the KU LNB as long as the Cband LNB is in that position. Try removing the Cband LNB and then rotate the KU LNB to see if you can locate the point of highest signal for 36E that way. Once found do blind scan to see if missing TPs will pop up.

If your dish is motorised, set the LNB cable to point downwards when your dish is pointing north, Then as the dish moves east or west the LNB will tilt to the correct skew angle for each sat. If you dont do this the LNB will always be skewed wrong as the dish is tracking the clerkbelt and some sats will be hard to catch. If the dish is not motorised get the correct skew angle from www.dishpointer.com and use that to set your LNB.

trek4000: Hi Guru' out there I'm trying to nail Astra 2F on 28degree East so I get Multi tv but in futility, I have managed Eutelsat 36A/B and also 16 and 17degree East satellites but for this its a hard nut to crack. Any help will be appreciated. I'm in Lusaka,Zambia.
Sorry I didnt check internet yersterday. I think Ilish answered your question accuratetly. The thing to keep in mind is that Astra 2f with respect to Lusaka is almost exactly at the top of the clerkbelt and it is almost exactly north. This gives you two ways to get it (i) If your dish is pointing exactly north you can get it by simply raising your dish up and down. (ii) If you want to use 36A (standing behind the dish) as a reference you raise the dish afew cm up (remember you are trying to locate the top of the arc)while swinging the dish to your left afew centimetres.

Another thing to remember is that because Astra 2F is at the top of the arc with respect to Lusaka, the skew should be zero if you want maximum signal, meaning the tail of the lnb should point down. Astra 2F has a strong signal hence you will not miss it if you have the correct TP.

odilibe: @Lunsat ..i don't think there is such thing as prime focus lnb or offset lnb..it is only the feed-horn that does the trick..if it is modified to match the f/d ratio of a particular satellite antenna...for example inverto C120 lnb like the red classic or invacom C120 can be used on both offset or prime focus dish by just replacing it with a prime focus feed horn or offset feed-horn respectively...

1. cutting lnb with an offset feed-horn gives it a wider angle when used on a prime focus dish...but when used on an offset dish it will pick unwanted noises...

Lnb with offset feed-horn narrows the angle on a prime focus dish..this means it will see less of the dish..lol

2. l have used lnb with prime focus feed horn on offset dish /90cm..that was fuji prime focus lnb..but no signal cos it picked noises outside the dish...

I hope this helps...cheers
OK. Thanks. I think I get the idea.

odilibe: below is the picture of focus prime lnb used for testing

cheers
@Odilibe, great pictures. Just afew questions because I want to understand the meaning of this LNB cutting business better:

1. The LNB is the type for prime focus dishes and your dish is prime focus dish. I always believed the feedhorn is there to eliminate unwanted electromagenetic noise and improve signal reception. Your findings seem to suggest the opposite in that the LNB performance is actually better when the feedhorn is cut off.How can we explain this?

2. I know from experience that prime focus LNBs perform poorly on offset dishes. Have you tried a cut prime focus LNB on an offset dish? if so what was the performance.

Any other gurus with experience can answer.

Thanks.

Inverto black ultra quad offset lnbf with cut feed-horn beats inverto red classic c120 and inverto black pro c120 lnb on my 3mtr locally made dish pointing to nilesat 7west in Enugu...while the red classic lnb slightly better than the black pro twin c120 lnb on my 2.4mtr dish..

Finally tested amiko alien 2 ..in nigeria with android phone hotspot open wifi all web application ¤ iptv, webtv, web portal; filmon tv etc working very well in nigeria..though needs high speed internet that is all for now

Can someone post a clear picture of how an offset LNB with cut feed-horn looks like? I have been hearing that cutting an LNB improves performamnce but I have not seen how its done exactly. Thanks.

pedronaran62: i managed to track irib on 20 east using a 1.8m solid pan dish very easily. next i tried tracking the same bird with a 1.8m prime focus 6 petal dish with difficulty. i had to bend the top and bottom two petals inwards slightly to obtain maximum signal on al jazeera channels 4054 l 27500. i used the strong, wiztech, eurolink lnbs, but failed to hit green.then i used eurostar , hit green one go. see lnb skew on pictures
@Pedro, your dish is warped and has severl focal points instead of one hence the strange skew on your LNBF. With the LNBF at that angle you are probably using only half the dish hence the problems in tracking IRIB. On a normal dish the LNBF should have highest signal when pointed at the centre of the dish. What you need to do is to remove the dish and put it on a flat floor, like a verandah and press and bend it and tighten all screws until all petals can touch the floor, then mount it again. You will enjoy the full power of the dish.

Lunsat: Us here in Southern Africa have never locked on to any Badr or any Nilesat signal. The signal fringe reception ends in Kenya and upper Tanzania. My sgggestion is that they should put the MBCs on Arabsat 5c or 5A which everyone in africa can access.

The message to them should be nice and strong, here is a sample message:

"In the name of Allah, the merciful, the compassinate, we plead with you our Middle Eastern bothers to consider us with what you have been blessed. All the satellite FTA signals are focussed on europe, the middle east and asia and very little for us in sub Saharan Africa. To get your signal we need 3 metre to 4 metre dishes. There is no economic or technical reason why this should be this way. All the school text books here show that the last time you our Arab brothers partnered with us was during the great African slave trade and you have never shown any interest in us ever since, which is very negative. Sharing your satellite signal with us will be very useful in helping us understand your culture and our common humanity. We urge you to emulate Iran which helped us understand them better as a people when they were beaming press TV and IFILM in english to us until very recently when they were not alowed by Intelsat. We urge you during this Ramadan to hear our plea and consider our request.Future generations of Africans will remember and appreciate your hand of frienship for ever."

@ all, just cut that and paste in your tweet, add your own words mentioning Arabsat 5c and send and you are done.

Hello Swordswifter,
you have just given us what we have been especting. More grease to your elbow.

@ All,
I would like to suggest to anybody who cares to write to MBC Group to suggest to them that they should give us MBC sd through Badr 5.
Reasons.
1. Signals on Badr 5 are high.
2. Badr 5 is trackable with 65cm dish.
3. Most trasponders on Eutelsat 7 west ( NWA beam) are weak.
4. They are not trackable with 65cm dish.
5. Badr 5 look more promising than Eutelsat 7 west (NWA beam).
6. One can combine Badr 5 with Astra 2F, Amos 5, Eutelsat 16, Eutelsat 4/7, Intelsat newdown on a 90 cm dish and thereby reduce the number of dish being scattered on a building.

This is my humble suggestion.

Thank you all.

swordswifter: Hello Everyone,

Our campaign has really gain grounds. 5 hrs ago we received a message from Arabsat indicating that our request to get the MBC SD free-to-air channels in Sub-Saharan Africa has been acknowledged at that they will be looking into it. This is the best news we've heard so far and we are glad to say you guys are all part of the people that really made this happen. Now Arabsat has heard our request, it's time we made the people of The MBC group hear our request. I still ask everyone to Send them emails, forward to them SMSs, tweet them or even post on their facebook walls. If they will encrypt their HD channels, let's all push so that the SD channels will be free for us. It can only happen when we all work together and speak with one voice. Let's all work at this and keep our fingers crossed for an exciting tomorrow. (y)
Swordswifter, you are a great man. Most of us have just been wondering why we are the least served region in the world, FTA wise. Is it because we are non-moslem and none white, we wondered? or is it because of our poverty? Surely there is no techical or commercial reason why all the nice FTA beams are concentrated in the same places, leaving us out. Today it is recorded in cyber space that men like swordswifter had the courage to take the bull by its horns to pose these questions to the powers that be and they got the required attention. This must be commended. It required one to rise above the region to see the global village and to demand for equal rights within that village. Well done bro, and the battle continues. I expect BB to try with every weapon in his arsenal to convince Arabsat to stay away from what he sees as his back yard, but nothing can stand in the way of a united continent.

Setoop: does it mean i cannt make any settings to get a specific satellite ? . Also if i get u well sir , i will only need to put on the decoder just for it to supply voltage to sat finder .
Your sat finder gets its power from the decoder. Connect it between the Receiver and the LNB. Just make sure the connector written "LNB" is connected to the LNB and the connector written "Receiver" is connected to the receiver. The sat finder works without you entering any settings in the decoder. It will tell you that you have locked on to a sat but it wont tell you what sat it is (unless the advanced sat finders not the one you have).

However, you can enter settings in the decoder if you want your decoder to tell you what satellite you are on. You need to know the satellite you want and enter the frequency, polarity and symbol rate for your chosen sattelite into the reciever. To find these, do a search in this forum (using google search at the bottom of the page) for whatever satellite you want and you will find settings in the following format example 12345 V 56789. Enter the correct numbers in the manual settings menu of your decoder and point your dish where you think the satellite is. If the sat finder screams and the red bar on your TV screen turns greent then you are on the correct satellite.

Man! I now know why doctors cant diagnos problems and prescribe medicine over the internet!
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by Lunsat(m): 1:18pm On May 28, 2013
Setoop: i don't know how to set assimuth on decoder
You need to know these basics:

Azimuth means the East/West direction of the satellite as seen from your location.

Elevation means the up/down direction of the satellite as seen from your location.

Azimuth and elevation are set at the dish when you are pointing the dish to a sattelite. They are not set at the decoder.

The sat finder is a gadget that helps you align your satellite dish to a settelite. When your dish is pointing at a settelite and receivimg a signal (i.e when azimuth and elevation are correct) the sat finder will scream and its needle will swing to the right to tell you that you have nailed a satellite. If you fix the dish in that position and do a blind scan the decoder will find channels.
