Reds out to avenge embarrasing defeat – Liverpool vs. Bournemouth Preview
Henry Jackson
Bournemouth are the latest team to visit Anfield this week, as Liverpool take on the Cherries in another important Premier League clash on Wednesday.
Liverpool vs. Bournemouth
Wednesday, April 5, 2017 – 12:30pm (BST)
Anfield
Premier League
Referee: Lee Mason
All of a sudden, that defeat to Leicester City feels like a distant memory.
Since the Reds decided to play like a pub team against the champions, they have picked up 10 points from a possible 12, from matches against
Arsenal, Burnley, Man City and
Everton.
Saturday’s Merseyside derby triumph was another vital win in Liverpool’s season, and they now look in a very healthy position in the league table.
Klopp’s men sit third, and with eight relatively kind remaining fixtures, it would now be a huge blow if Champions League football wasn’t secured.
Next up for the Reds is Wednesday’s visit of Bournemouth – a side who delivered one of the most crushing blows of Liverpool’s season back in December.
▼ ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW ▼
That late 4-3 defeat at Dean Court, having been 3-1 up, was tough to take, but Wednesday is a great chance to avenge that disappointment.
Eddie Howe’s team should have enough to avoid relegation for another year, and on paper, this should be a straightforward evening for the hosts.
We have seen Liverpool fall short in so many games like this in 2016/17, however, and failure to win on Wednesday would halt their current momentum significantly, especially with injuries racking up.
Three more points are essential, as Klopp’s men look to keep Man United and Arsenal at arm’s length.
Last meeting: Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool

Team News
Liverpool have been unlucky with injuries this season, particularly in comparison to someone like Chelsea, and several key men are now missing.
Sadio Mane could miss the rest of the season, having suffered a nasty knee injury against Everton , which is a major blow. The 24-year-old has been the Reds’ most influential player this season, so making do without him will be tough.
Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson also remain sidelined, with the English duo jetting off to Miami for what has been claimed is simply for a
“change of scenery” . That seems a little odd, though.
Joel Matip and Emre Can both sat out training at the start of the week, but hopefully they are fit.
Daniel Sturridge is back in training, however, which is a much-needed boost for Klopp.
▼ ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW ▼
Divock Origi is expected to come into the side in Mane’s absence, and it will be interesting to see if Lucas Leiva keeps his place, following a superb derby performance.
Bournemouth don’t have any new injuries to worry about, although Callum Wilson, Andrew Surman and Adam Federici are all out.
Tyrone Mings is still suspended, following his alleged stamp on Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the beginning of March.

Klopp’s View
Klopp was delighted to have both Sturridge and Origi available, especially with Mane such a big loss through injury:
“Everyone would miss Sadio [Mane]. Southampton probably still miss him, Salzburg still miss him,” Klopp said.
“Of course it’s good to have Divock now.

“It is how it is, the season is long and you need all the players. Sometimes the players are in good shape and can’t be in the starting lineup.
“Yes it’s good to have him, and a very, very important option for us now.
“Even now Daniel [Sturridge] is back, I said it yesterday it’s actually a perfect moment coming back to team training.”

Liverpool vs Everton: Preview and Predictions
If you are not
Liverpool vs Everton
English Premier League
Date: Saturday, 1st April 2017
Kick-off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.
The English Premier League returns to action after the international break with the exciting derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield on Saturday, 1st April 2017.
Liverpool seem to have overturned a poor start to 2017 with 3 wins and a draw from the last five league matches. They beat two big teams Tottenham and Arsenal during the period, while earning a vital 1-1 draw away at Manchester City just before the international window.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are fourth in the English Premier League table, 1 point behind third placed Man City and 3 behind Tottenham on second. On the other hand, Everton are 7th in the standings, 6 point short of Liverpool, but just behind Manchester on the 5th spot.
The biggest blow for Liverpool in this crucial tie is the absence of midfield-technician Adam Lallana, who is side-lined with an injury picked up during the international window. Meanwhile, there are concerns on the fitness of the Brazilian duo Firmino and Coutinho.
Everton went into the international break on the back of them excellent results. They thrashed Hull City and West Brom in consecutive home matches to bounce back from a narrow 3-2 loss at Tottenham.
The defeat to Spurs on 3rd March is their only defeat since December 2016. The 12 matches during the period saw them winning 12 times alongside 3 draws.
Liverpool vs Everton: Head-to-head
The Reds edged a narrow 1-0 win when the teams met for the Premier League clash at Goodison Park earlier this season.
Everton are without a win in the last 12 derbies against Liverpool. Moreover, they have beaten the Reds just once in the last 22 meetings. And at Anfield, Liverpool are unbeaten in the last 18.
Liverpool vs Everton: Prediction
Everton are expected to give a tough test to Liverpool despite failing to shine in this fixture since over a decade. Also, Liverpool are not on top of their form and are left short-handed with the latest injury blows.
However, the Reds have an exceptionally good record at home against their neighbours. So, one must expect Klopp’s men to squeeze a narrow win here. Banking on the current scoring form of Everton, we might see both teams scoring here. And I will leave you with my correct prediction of a 2-1 win for Liverpool.
Liverpool vs Everton: Bet Tips
Both Teams to Score at 1.72 with Betfair
Correct FT Score: 2-1 Liverpool at
9.00 with Bet365.

Manchester City have lost 1-0, 3-0, 4-1, and 2-1 in their past four Premier League games against Liverpool so have to reach back to August 2014 for their last win, 3-1 at the Etihad. Now is the time for Pep Guardiola’s side to end this sequence as, firstly, they have just suffered a Champions League elimination and, secondly, if City do win then the gap to Liverpool grows to four points with a match in hand. Liverpool have not lost a league game at Anfield in over a year and maintaining their impressive home form will be key to fulfilling dreams of the title. Jürgen Klopp’s side have scored 26 goals in nine home league games and host a Swansea side that have kept only one clean sheet in 13 games. New recruits Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll could debut for Paul Clement’s visitors but a third, Dutch winger Luciano Narsingh, is doubtful with a calf injury.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)EFL : Southampton Vs Liverpool Today At 9:00pm by luvola(op): 9:24am On Jan 11, 2017
Team news
Claude Puel does not intend to include Fonte, who put in a transfer request last week, until after the transfer window closes and Boufal has pulled out of playing in the African Nations Cup due to a knee injury.
Charlie Austin (shoulder), Matt Targett (hamstring), Cedric Soares (head) and Alex McCarthy (hamstring) all remain sidelined.
Jurgen Klopp says Philippe Coutinho will return for Liverpool against Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final, live on Sky Sports
Coutinho is set to make his return after nearly seven weeks out with ankle ligament damage but is likely to be on the bench, while Loris Karius should continue in goal following his clean sheet against Plymouth.
Jordan Henderson (heel) will not resume full training until Thursday but centre-back Joel Matip (ankle) could make the squad as he seeks to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's trip to United.
Opta stats
This will be the eighth occasion Southampton have faced Liverpool in the EFL Cup; against no side have they played more in the competition (also Arsenal).
Liverpool have eliminated Southampton in four of their last five EFL Cup ties.
Saints have reached this stage of the League Cup for the third time in their history and first time since 1986/87, when they met Liverpool. The only occasion they progressed to the final was in 1978/79, although they eventually lost to Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool have an excellent record in the League Cup
This will be Liverpool's 17th appearance in the League Cup semi-finals; the most of any side in the competition's history. They've progressed to the final in five of their last six semi-final appearances.
Southampton and Liverpool have kept three clean sheets so far this season; the joint-most in the League Cup alongside Newcastle.
Liverpool have scored more goals than any other side in this season's League Cup (12); their highest goal tally in the competition since the 2011/12 edition (14).
Daniel Sturridge is this season's top-scorer in the League Cup (4), netting a brace against Burton in Round 2 and also versus Spurs in Round 4.
Daniel Sturridge could start up front after featuring against Plymouth
Jurgen Klopp has won seven of his nine League Cup games in charge of Liverpool (D1 L1), and has reached the semi-final for the second time in as many seasons.
Saints have won six of their last seven League Cup games against sides from the same division; their only defeat coming against Liverpool in last season's quarter-final (1-6).
Only Aston Villa (467) have scored more goals in League Cup history than Liverpool (466).
Charlie predicts
The question about Southampton is are they going to go for it? I could see them sit in, play on the counter-attack and treat it like an away game.
I think they've been getting a bit bland under Puel and you do wonder where the goals are going to come from.
