31 ' Manquillo is another who has impressed. He 's slotted seamlessly into that right-back slot and marauded back and forth down that flank. Promising stuff from the Spaniard . 30 ' More vivid attacking. Sturridge tries to set up one of Coutinho or Sterling in the box , but his cross is overhit and neither can get to it . 30 ' Good play from the visitors. Aubameyang finsd Mkhitaryan from the by -line , but the Armenian' s volley is blocked and rebounds back off him for a goal -kick . 29 ' Good ball from Kirch through to Aubameyang , but Skrtel covers and stretches well to put it out. Sterling then does well to shrug Piszczek off the ball and win a throw . Very strong for a diminutive winger. 28 ' Sturridge too , now . He tries a clever flick with the back of his heel to get past Piszczek, but it deflects off the defender and out for a throw . 27 ' Jojic tries an effort outside of the box, but Skrtel blocks it . The midfielder delivers in the subsequent corner but it is headed away from danger. 26 ' Dortmund not exactly full strength but the Reds have been excellent |
23 ' This really is impressive from front to back . Lovren 's well -timed tackle earns a rousing applause from the Anfield faithful . 22 ' Absolutely sensational play from Coutinho again. He weaves through a number of yellow shirts with superb skill before curling a wonderful through ball for Sterling , but his effort is blocked by Piszczek and nothing comes of the corner. Tremendous footwork from the Brazilian playmaker . 21 ' Liverpool attacking with real verve, Manquillo manages a cross to Sterling at the back post . He retrieves the ball after a defensive header and dinks it back to the incoming Coutinho on the edge of the area , but his connection is poor and the shot bends wide of the right post . |

He retrieves the ball after a defensive header and dinks it back to the incoming Coutinho on the edge of the area , but his connection is poor and the shot bends wide of the right post . 20 ' And Lovren 's header for the second: 20 ' Here is Sturridge 's opening goal : 19 ' There were shouts for handball there, but they were rightly waved away. From a throw -in , Kirch tries an effort from distance but it flies over Mignolet 's crossbar . 18 ' Great defending by the skipper. Mkhitaryan finds the ball just outside the box , but the 33 -year - old slides in to dispossess him. 17 ' Dangerous attack from the visitors, but the Reds counter and Gerrard connects to a Sterling pass before trying to feed Sturridge on the last shoulder but the forward is offside |
Loveren made his debut marshalling Liverpool's defense and scoring now. Lambert who is a striker hasn't score. This is a big test for liverpool in Europe. |
13 ' Magnificent. Langerak comes out but is left stranded and Gerrard 's delivery falls to the unmarked Lovren who powers a header home . The same end in which he scored for Southampton last season. What a start for Rodgers ' Reds. 12 ' GOAL! Liverpool 2 -0 . 12 ' Sterling pushes into the box and wins a corner. Gerrard walks over to take it . 11 ' Liverpool are good value for their early lead . They 've been the better team so far , and that goals shows it . The visitors posing problems though, as Piszczek nearly gets onto a long ball . 10 ' That is an absolutely superb goal . A long ball from Lovren into the centre of the park is flicked on by Coutinho 's outside of the foot and Sturridge runs onto it before finishing neatly past Langerak with an outside of the foot left shot . Simply sublime . 9 ' GOAL ! 1- 0 Liverpool. That 's wonderful stuff . |
9 ' GOAL ! 1- 0 Liverpool. That 's wonderful stuff . 9 ' Both teams playing the ball about nicely . Lovren has looked commanding in his opening few minutes , playing the ball about with confidence and marshalling the back -line . 7 ' Gerrard 's poor tackle gives away a free -kick near the half- way line, but a sea of red bodies immediately press the Dortmund defence and Coutinho forces Sokratis into putting it out for a throw - in . 6 ' Liverpool have been very impressive in this starting few minutes . Zipping the ball about across the pitch, whilst Sterling and Coutinho look very lively . Manquillo and Johnson both pushing high up the pitch. Positive signs. 5 ' Wonderful through ball from Coutinho after a magnificent turn. He finds Sterling in the box who shoots first - time, but Langerak saves with ease. Few seconds after , Henderson tries an ambitious chip |

11 :50 . Liverpool's tactics today. A standard 4 - 3- 3 , with Gerrard sitting deep and Can and Henderson roam about in front of him . Sturridge is the lone forward, with Sterling and Coutinho either side , likely to drop deep and create for the English striker. |

Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool play the final game of their pre-season preparations when they host a talented Borussia Dortmund side on Sunday (12.15pm kick off). Liverpool make a long awaited return to Anfield for the first time since May 11th, where they’ll face one more dress rehearsal fixture before the real thing kicks off seven days later against Southampton. The Reds enjoyed an entertaining and relatively successful pre-season schedule that certainly provided the squad with what they needed heading into the new campaign. Sunday’s game against Dortmund will provide a stern test for Rodgers’ men, who will be looking to use the fixture to blow out any remaining cobwebs before the season commences. The match could also see Rodgers pick what he hopes to be his starting team on the opening day of the season, as Liverpool look to step up their intensity with just days left to prepare for the most demanding campaign the club has faced in five seasons. It will be the first time the two clubs have met for any type of fixture since October 2001, where Liverpool, under the guidance of Gerard Houllier recorded a comfortable 2-0 win in the group stage of the Champions League at Anfield. A goal in each half from Vladimir Smicer and Stephen Wright that day was enough to hand Liverpool a comfortable win in Group B. Team News Adam Lallana is a known absentee for the Reds and he’s definitely unavailable for the match. Fellow newcomer Lazar Markovic is also set to miss the game after he sat out the clubs’ open day training session at Anfield on Friday morning, which also saw Jon Flanagan, Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini uninvolved with speculation over the latter two players’ future continuing to rumble on. No Adam Lallana or Lazar Markovic at training today for #LFC — Phil Kirkbride (@philkecho) August 8, 2014 Sturridge trained today and will be available for Dortmund. Lallana, Markovic, Flanagan, Agger weren’t in training. — Kop 305 (@Kop305) August 8, 2014 There was better news over Daniel Sturridge however, who did take part in training and is reported as being fit for Sunday’s showcase game and the prolific striker could be joined in attack by the ever-blossoming Raheem Sterling and Brazilian magican, Philippe Coutinho . Dejan Lovren is set to receive the first minutes of his Liverpool career in the friendly clash after he was frustratingly denied the chance to join up with the rest of the squad on the USA tour due to problems with his work visa. #Lovren at LCB, #Skrtel at RCB, Johnson at left back and Manquillo at right back (training now) #LFC — LFCZA (@LFCZA) August 8, 2014 The Croatian was reportedly lined up in a potential starting back four, partnered alongside Martin Skrtel with Glen Johnson and excited new arrival Javier Manquillo lining up as the full-backs. Enjoying training for the first time at Anfield, magnificent stadium with so much history. How lucky I am for beeing here. — Javier Manquillo (@javiermanquillo) August 8, 2014 Opposition After a period of turmoil, Dortmun – transformed by the charismatic Jurgen Klopp – have enjoyed success in recent seasons, claiming a historic double win in 2011-12 and winning the DFL Supercup in 2013 – but BVB just missed out on Champions League glory in the same season after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of rivals Bayern Munich at Wembley. Like Liverpool, Dortmund will be looking to improve on last season’s 2nd placed finished and pre-season preparations that are well underway have gone swimmingly to date with six wins and a draw from seven friendly matches – including a 10-0 win over Swiss side Rapperswill. Kevin Großkreutz about the Liverpool match: “I want to play there, it’s tradition and everyone is looking forward to it.” #BVB #LFC — Sandra Goldschmidt (@SanBorussia) August 5, 2014 Similarly, Sunday’s game represents their last friendly fixture before Klopp’s men take on Bayern Munich in the German Supercup, which will be played 10 days before their opening fixture of the league season when they’ll face Bayer Levekusen. Dortmund’s squad continues to boast talent everywhere you look, from commanding and stylish defender Mats Hummels in the back four to much coveted forward player Marco Reus in attack. Dortmund have sold over 1000 tickets for their end, and ours are sold out. Should be good. — Kop 305 (@Kop305) August 8, 2014 Former Liverpool loanee Nuri Sahin is likely to make a return to Anfield and one time heavily linked transfer target Henrik Mkhitaryan along with exciting new £14.6million singing Ciro Immobile, who finished last season as top scorer in the Italian Serie A, could both feature in the game. The two clubs carry a number of well- documented similarities – including both proudly singing You’ll Never Walk Alone before matches – and the away fans will undoubtedly be welcomed at Anfield on Sunday, having previously displayed banners showing their support for the justice campaign that continues to be courageou |
TEAM NEWS Burnley summer signing Lukas Jutkiewicz could partner Danny Ings up front after impressing in pre-season. Goalkeeper Tom Heaton is fit after missing several warm-up games with a calf injury. Chelsea could hand debuts to new trio Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Filipe Luis - and keeper Thibaut Courtois. The Blues will assess Didier Drogba's knee injury, while several players involved in the latter stages of the World Cup may lack match fitness. MATCH PREVIEW This will be a special game but nothing will replicate a memorable, balmy August evening in 2009 that was barmy! Who will ever forget Robbie Blake's stunning volley versus champions Manchester United that literally shook the stands at Turf Moor to ensure a famous win. Burnley's ground was a difficult patch on which to gain a result that season - they followed up that win with a victory over Everton and also held Arsenal in December. However, after losing just once in their opening nine games at Turf Moor they then found the going tough, and won only two more home matches after Christmas. Sean Dyche has been busy bolstering his squad but his investment is only a small fraction of the spending of Jose Mourinho, who has been quick to address the weakness from last season - a lack of goals. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28735901 |

In recent years, the Blues have been so dominant in this fixture that City fans reared on trips to York away will probably be assuming that a right old thrashing from the Geordies is on the cards. But this is the new City; English Champions for the second time in three seasons, League Cup holders and undeniably, as the terrace chant goes, the best team in the land and all the world. With the need to get off to a good start even more intense, following last weekend's disappointing performance against Arsenal in the Community Shield, City manager Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to pick a much stronger starting XI than the one which failed so abjectly at Wembley on Sunday. Both sides have strengthened well over the summer, though City are unlikely to field many of their new signings, and indeed perhaps even many of their more established superstars given the struggle for match-fitness in this year's incredibly short pre-season (it seems to churlish to complain too much about the World Cup though). The most likely new signing to start for the Blues is probably defensive midfielder Fernando, who may well take the place of his compatriot Fernandinho; whether Pellegrini starts with Joe Hart or new goalie Willy Cabellero will also be telling, given the Chilean has stated that he views Cabellero as serious competition for England's No 1. The off-season has been a good one for the Geordies this time, as new blood has finally worked its way to St. James' Park. After the often farcical nature of last year (think Joe Kinnear and Alan Pardew giving Hull's David Meyler a Glasgow Kiss, for starters), the loss of Yohan Cabaye to PSG in January may have put £19m in the club coffers but deprived Newcastle of their talisman. However, Cabaye Mark II may well have wended his way to The Toon this July, in the form of ex-Montpellier man, Rémy Cabella. Together with the acquisitions of ex-Mackem Colback, Monaco's Emmanuel Rivière and strikers Facundo Ferrerya Ayoze Perez, Newcastle would appear to have more options, firepower and steel than last season. Likely to keep with his preferred 4-4-2, Pellegrini will want his team to start the season as they mean to go on, continuing the outstanding attacking flair and prowess that they showed in their record goal-scoring season last year. Sadly for the Blues, if any World Cup players are saved, it is likely to be one of more of their Argentine trio of World Cup Finalists, Zabaleta, Demichelis and Agüero, plus Brazilian semi-finalist Fernandinho. New signing Eliaquim Mangala has already ruled himself out of contention; although part of the French squad, the 23 year-old defender didn't play a minute in Brazil, and has stated his need to return to full fitness. Newcastle fans will be eager to see their new heroes take to the field, and exactly what formation Pardew comes up with to stifle City's attack will be intriguing. The first home game of the season demands a good performance, whatever the result, and although Newcastle won't be expected to beat the Champions, they may just have a chance to spring a surprise, particularly if City are somewhat depleted. http://www.vavel.com/mobile/en/football/premier-league/manchester-city/380220-premier-league-match-preview-newcastle-v-manchester-city.html |

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted he did not see Tony Pulis' departure from Crystal Palace coming. Palace's plans for the new Barclays Premier League season, which starts at Arsenal in Saturday's late kick-off, have been thrown into disarray after Pulis left the Selhurst Park club late on Thursday. Pulis was named manager of the season for 2013/2014, having guided the Eagles to safety following his appointment last November at a time when the south London club were rock bottom, but went on to finish comfortably in mid-table. Former Stoke boss Pulis had reportedly been left frustrated by the club failing to push through deals for various players he targeted to strengthen the Palace squad. Palace issued a brief statement on Friday morning, which indicated Pulis had left by "mutal consent", with several candidates such as Malky Mackay, Neil Lennon and Tim Sherwood likely to be interested in the vacancy. Wenger revealed there had been no indications of any issues when he caught up with Pulis at a pre-season Premier League managers' meeting at the start of the week. "It was a complete surprise to me and what kind of consequence that will have on Crystal Palace, I don't know," said Wenger, who is the longest serving manager in the top flight. "The only thing I can say is that he's done a remarkable job last season and he made a miracle. I don't really know why he left, but it took me by surprise. "I have (never) seen that (manager leave so close to start of season) before, so you can always be surprised. "I was at a managers' meeting on Monday with Tony Pulis and nothing indicated that he would not be here (on Saturday) afternoon." Wenger added: "Maybe Tony Pulis was the manager of the season last year because he took the maximum out of his team during the period he was there - that is the real job of the manager." Arsenal hope to have defender Laurent Koscielny fit following a minor Achilles problem. Keith Millen will be in caretaker charge of Palace again. He said: "We are all shocked from the players to the staff. "We knew the frustrations of the club that we hadn't brought in as many players as we wanted but as far as training is concerned we had no inkling this might happen. "The players are asking why. This has happened now three times what with Dougie (Freedman) leaving and then Ian (Holloway) and now Tony. "So they're asking why. It's important to reassure them they've done nothing wrong. "Tony loved working with the group and they are a great group to work with. "Now all of a sudden they're wondering who is going to come in and what direction we're going." Martin Kelly, Fraizer Campbell and Brede Hangeland could be handed debuts for the Eagles. http://www.espnfc.com/barclays-premier-league/match/395753/arsenal-crystal-palace/preview |
