It was not immediately Gowon became Head of State and Ojukwu as Governor, Eastern Region that Civil war started.
A Governor could not just release a Federal prisoner in Calabar prison and the prisoner would walk directly to head of government in Lagos. There's no way a governor would just release a Federal prisoner facing treason changes. Why didn't Adamawa Governor release Obasanjo when he was a prisoner there?
Notwithstanding, Gowon would not come to Calabar to personally release Awo. Ojukwu as a Governor would have been briefed since Calabar was under his jurisdiction. This is what so difficult for some people to understand.
Only Gowon as the Head of State had the constitutional rights to free Awo and he met him immediately after his release. I would not also doubt whether Awo met Ojukwu or not. If I was the Governor of Eastern region then or the Calabar prison Head, I can also say I release Awo. It now depends on one's brain capability to discern or reason contextually and logically. |

lawani: The Ijesa are a Yoruba group in West Africa. They occupy the Ijesa state. A state founded by owa Ajibogun over one thousand years ago. Ijesa has had many capitals, up to six but Ilesa became the capital in the 16th century. There are over 200 towns and villages who are Ijesa. It was Ijesa in the early 19th century who decimated the ilorin Fulani jihadists during the pole war. Pole means down in the Ijesa dialect. The Ijesa saved the rest of southern Nigeria from the fulani jihad because the pole war was the first serious check on the Jihadist's onslaught before the Ibadan put a final stop to the Fulani ambitions in osogbo in the 1840s. The kingship succession in Ijesa is like that of Britain as it is only princes who has been lojas or dukes of smaller Ijesa towns who are qualified to become the king. The full meaning of Deji of Akure is owafadeji of Akure which means owa granted him a crown. The first Deji of Akure was a grandson of the owa obokun Atakunmosa who reigned in the 16th century. The Deji is still greeted omo owa omo ekun like other Ijesas. The Atawoja of osogbo is also an omo owa. The greater Ijesa comprises of osogbo and Akure and we hope there will be a reunification in the near future. Also, the Lagos monarch is Ijesa by descent through the Alagbaa for which a palace the Iga Alagbaa was built in Lagos. The descendants of the Alagbaa are the kings of Lagos. The ruling family of Lagos is therefore Ijesa by descent. That Ọwá Obòkun daughter gave birth to a Deji never made Akure to be Ìjèṣas. All 'Omo Olofin' are Omo Owa, Omo Ẹkun whether in Ìjèsà, Ekiti or Igbomina. The one in Ìjèsà is Ọwá Obòkun. |

Ennyasems: what about the ford edge sir, can see everybody skipped it It's nice but you must be ready to pay more for menteinance and parts. All these vehicles, XC90, Ford Edge, etc will not take abuse like average Toyota, Lexus or Honda; that's why I mentioned 'Nigerian factors' above. If you don't have any problem with those mentioned factors above, go for any vehicle of your choice. I will advise you wait for Gurus here to further advise you. |

Ennyasems: i know nothing about cylinders and engines, the rx 330 vs xc90 vs the outlander, which is a good pick? .In buying car/suv, sometimes one considers Nigeria factors- pocket, location, mech & parts' availability. Some also consider resale value and fueling. 4 cylinder (I4) will use lesser fuel depending on engine capacity. Most auto technicians can also handle this. The V6 or higher will give you more power and consume more fuel. It's very good for people with long distance journeys. If you asked me to pick among the 3 above, I will certainly go with Lexus Rx 330, though a V6; most of the above have V6, except you're choosing Highlander or 4Runner I4. ps: the Outlander, just like RAV4, CR-V, has I4 trim but some with CVT transmission from 2006. |

If not for cash, my recommendation is 4Runner I4 or V6, 2010 & above), PILOT (2006-2008, doubt if you will want this if you don't like Highlander), CR-V (2006 & above, if you can pay attention to your suspension once in a while) RAV4 (2007-2009, good ride but some see it as feminine's). Try and check with trusted Mech with scanning tools before buying any. |

As someone (not Igbo) who grew up in Warri and witnessed the katakata there, I would like to know how you, mystiquefia & Efewestern think Warri will be divided along Itsekiri, Ijaw & Urhobo ethnic lines into autonomous rescource controlling region without a war. Why ashamed of your ethnicity? Why always telling everyone you're not Igbo, every thread, I'm not Igbo, I'm not Igbo; who asked you? Why are you so obsessed with perfection of Biafra and at the same time looking for loop holes in others' ambitions? You 'Igboboy' from plateau without a particular tribe should know that if these people can't survive as Niger Delta Republic, what will now make them survive as Biafra. Leave these people alone to decide for themselves, that's what they're telling you guys for ages but you want them at all costs. After all you're already the 'spokesperson' for ipobs and all the ethnic groups in the middle belt! I don't have advice for you guys but you should know that many ethnic, language, cultural groups cut across many countries. Look at Hausas, Barubas, Fulanis, Yorubas, Asantes, Cush, Bantus, Germans, Turks, Slavs, Jews, etc. Why the trouble every day? Biafra will come easily with SE states, let others that want to join agitate afterwards instead of playing unnecessary mind game. For instance, Southern Cameroon joined Cameroon from Nigeria after independence. We will not be where we are today if the senseless colonial masters had not forced us together but willingly come together. |

pazienza: Mr man, hold it right there!
You are not the only one who has been to SE and SW. I served in SW rural area for full year and travelled around SW that same year through rural areas because of the nature of my job.
No Okada man in SW can afford to build a house. Stop talking trash. Unless you meant mud houses. Do you know that Yorubas are still building mud houses in this modern era, they modernized it by first moulding the mud into small blocks and allowing the sun to dry it, then they use cement plaster to hold them all together like one do when building with blocks. When they are done, they would plaster it with cement and paint it, you wouldn't know it's mud house until the plaster cracks and you see the reddish mud inside. I was marvelled. That's the level of poverty in the area. Back to Okada man. A normal Okada man in SW is overtaxed. He hardly makes enough to take home. Yorubas are very heavy on taxation. An Okada man in east pays less tax and takes more home to his family. He on the average have better net income than a Yoruba okada man. He might not be able to build a house, since he doesn't have the option of using mud as block, he can rent decent house and pay his children school fees while his wife hustle for money for family feeding through petty trading and side farming.
Now let me tell you, the idea that there are no lands in SE is nothing but SW propaganda, even in overpopulated Lagos, there are still few empty lands for petty farming. I was from a humble background,we lived in Enugu but we never bought Garri for a single day while growing up. There are many empty lands around Akwuke, Akegbe, Ozalla, Nike, Eke, even One day area ( though One day is now fully built up) etc surrounding Enugu metropolis, low income families like mine often leased those lands and farmed on subsistence basis. Between this and our other incomes, we were living big and all went to University. This is how it is in Igboland. You don't know Igboland more than Ndiigbo, so if you don't have any positive thing to contribute to this thread, keep your peace. Mr man, I can't safe you from your emotions and egoism..... Ok, every igboman is either billionaire or millionaire, I think you're all right now. I can't be sharing here how some people are struggling... |

pazienza: The type of stuff they type from their brown roof apartment built from mud in Oshogbo. What reality? Scarcity of land is not why there are brown roof and old dilapidated buildings all over Yoruba cities, it's poverty and lack of money for renovation work. All over Igboland, old ground floor buildings are continously being torn down and replaced with modern storey buildings. Because there is capital and capacity to do that. You don't just acquire money to build and afford four storey buildings because there is scarcity of land, you have to to have the money to embark on it first and foremost to be able to afford it.
Take your humility sermon to your fellow Yorubas. We were here when we were all told how Osun GDP was bigger than that of the whole SE combined and we saw how it ended. This stat is not reality, it's an insult to our sensibility, a distortion and falsehood, it's only rational that we rejected it. This is not 1960s when your Lagos Ibadan express way media have monopoly to packaging and propagating falsehoods as facts. Thank God I have stayed in all the states of the SE and SW, the people's mindsets are different. While the SE appreciates capitalism, the SW loves socialism. While there are lots of very rich people of eastern origin due to trading, there are also many many more poor people, the SW boasts of lots and lots of middle class people. There are differences between, for instance, teachers or okada man in SE and those in SW. all of them can afford food and other stuff but those from the SW can easily build houses and live modestly in their 3/4 bedroom bungalows, it's difficult for those in the SE to do; to even get land in reasonable towns, one needs millions not to talk of buildings. The governments in the SW are always learning towards socialism. they tend to provide good roads to link various towns. In Osun or Ekiti, virtually all communities have tap water and reservoirs by the government. you also find banks in most of the towns. Each family also has large land and cash crops, it's difficult for anyone not to get at least food, except if he is a stranger. These people may not be rich but majority are comfortable. The people leave so much to the government, which is not good enough... The governments in the SE tend to favour the rich and capitalism. Just look at Owerri and Enugu; in Enugu, there is no provisions for middle class estates and supports, people are being pushed to crowd suburbs like abakpa, obiagu, Garki, etc even schools' lands in new layout and other places are being allocated to the rich and you find people, staying so far away in Awgu, Ezeagu, 9th mile, etc to come to the metropolitan. After Enugu, Agbani and Nsukka, you hardly find banks. a lot of people are actually struggling just like other places in Nigeria. The super rich of everyone' status some of you are sharing is not just real... The government leaves so much to the people without wanting to take responsibility for the poor. The middle class is growing in the SW while is either you are rich or poor in the SE, the Middle class is shrinking. In all, the states' in both regions should be held responsible. |
