BabaRamota1980:In addition, everything about our foreign, economic, military policies, etc. should shift towards Russia, China and Europe. We should build common grounds with India, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey and other emerging powers. Even if I hate Nigeria, I can't just imagine some of us celebrating this ban. Trump is acting as racist banning 4 African countries, and the Black Americans seem like cowards. |
This is a great insult to Nigeria and Black world. As African most populous nation, we're in the same context with India, China, Russia, etc. In about 70 years time, we're projected to be the third most populous nation in the world after China and India. Trump only belittled and disgraced us before committee of nations; I hope our government will also take some measure of ban against Americans. Wish our nonchalant and inept leaders got balls to retaliate in any form. |
tiwiex:. This is the problem with the South West; we allow others to dictate the tune. You can't find okada in all the states capital cities and major towns of South East and South South including major commercial areas like Onitsha, Nnewi; so also Kano, Abuja, Jos, etc. not even keke in Owerri. Why the noise about Lagos? . We should learn to create other jobs for our people in agriculture not riding okada. The population of okada and northern or foreign riders in major cities of SW and Ilorin is baffling. It's a time-bomb because the rates these guys give birth and send them down to do all sorts of things are not controllable. |
Antoeni:Cheetah is 'Amotekun' in Yoruba. |
cbrass:Maybe you should reread again. I didn't say Oduduwa was Okanbi but trying to let you know that others also took the name Oduduwa after the first one just as Okanbi might be called Ogun after the first One.... |
gregyboy:Ọwọ is very ancient than Bini; most cultures/religions you get in Bini today were from Ọwọ and Ugbo(Ilaje). Ugodomigodo was quite different from present Bini. Maybe you need to see Ọbalùfọ̀n with lots of beats... Those arguing on Oduduwa or Okanbi being Ogun; There were Original Ogun, Oduduwa, Sango, Oranmiyan. However, many great people beared these names after them; people are still bearing Ogun, etc. till today. Okanbi as Ogun or Sango as Oyo king were different from the first Ogun or Sango, Obatala's contemporaries |
Original Africans are not dark in complexion, for example, pygmies, Khoisans, the Bushmen. The people that came to Africa from Mesopotamia and other Middle East got darker than them. Many people referred to as Igbos now(most Abians) had their origin from these ancient Africans. We need to study the physique and language sounds of Bushmen and the south-east Asians/Pacific people like Indonesians to understand that there is something common between Efik's groups, pygmies, Khoisans, even to some extent, some Cameroon people and igbos and Indonesians (although Igbo language is now in kwa group just like Yoruba). |
jojothaiv:Actually, Ekitis had contact with Fulanis and Muslims from Ilorin before the coming of Christianity into their environ; many of them got converted and bear northern and Muslim names up till this day. There are lots of Sanusi, Sanni, etc. to some extent Gidado and such in Ekiti; although they are mainly christians now. It can also mean 'Igi da Odo' - wood across stream'; a proverbial meaning of someone who elevates, safes or makes breakthrough for others/family. |
BabaRamota1980:The OP is right, I know of Gidado family in Ado-Ekiti. |
nurey:Thanks sir |

I will cherish Nigerians' experiences or reviews on 2010-2012 Toyota Avensis Saloon 1.8L Petro engine: availability of parts, grand clearance, etc compared with Corolla. Thank you. |
somehow:...and they're APC guys; by the time a PDP guy would be jailed, we'll not hear word again. |
helinues:If only we allow deputies to become Governors or presidents; Ganduje (the most liberal governor North ever produced) and Umahi are good examples. Ganduje is so cool with ethnic and religious stuffs that most christians and non-indigenes in Kano prayed for him to win last election. |
This is a major problem with Buhari's government. |
Omoodua007:They are thoroughly brainwashed with lots and lots of 'beer-parlour' stories and lies, even up till now. |
I NOW KNOW WHY PDP WAS BUSY LOOKING FOR RIVERS/ZAMFARA'S ROUTE! |
naijadrivablog:You are right! The whole scheme is bastardized already; what's good for the goose is good for the gander. |
Yebosola:I still don't know how these people reason... How will a party, APC, zone it's president to a region that will not vote for the candidate but for opposition, PDP? No party will take that path and choose to lose out willingly. If SE wants to continue to play 'houseboy' (what they accused Osinbajo for) to Hausa/Fulani, that's their cup of tea. This will never stop other groups in the South from vying for the highest position in the country, because they've got leaders, real heart and ambition; they're not subservient individuals. I, myself can contest for this position without fear or wailing for sympathy. It's only real cowards that will be so afraid of contesting with his enemy out of fear of losing out but backing an enemy of their existence to spite a lesser enemy. Real leaders will go for power regardless of circumstances; power is taken not given. Hence my respect for Awolowo, Ojukwu, Muritala, Abiola, Buhari, Tinubu, etc |
Crieff:Head, Leader, General, President. |
Beosten:If it's the meaning of the name you so cherish, then these are cool for female: Ọnà (if you're from Ekiti or Ìjèsà; that's where Aluko, a male surname, is popular; Ọnà [Ẹwà] means beauty or what one uses to beautify) and Ọ̀sẹwà or Ṣewa. Better still, Àlàkẹ́ is a beautiful female name also. There was a time a friend wanted to name his daughter 'Àrẹ'; when people around started saying it's for male, he changed it to 'Areola' and the name is so perfect for the girl. |
nlPoster:''Uwa has various meanings in the different Nigerian languages, for Yoruba, I doubt wealth is one of them. I could be wrong of course. Uwa seems to be wealth in the midwest (specifically Itsekiri). Iwa or Uwa means manners in Yoruba. It's considered a suffix in Oduduwa: Odu to da Iwa ie the myth or spell that brought culture. The op's context is Benin versus Esan, not Yoruba.'' This stuff you wrote above made me quote you. You don't assume authority over issue you are not versed. I wonder if you speak or even understand any central Yoruba dialects (Ifẹ, Ìjèsà, Ekiti & Igbomina) or South Eastern Yoruba dialects ( Ọwọ, Akoko, Ijebu, Ondo, Ikale, Ìlájé, etc.) |
nlPoster:Is Itsekiri not Yoruboid language? What's the difference between 'Omotsola and Omosola or Omawumi and Omowumi'? I have two friends from the same community in Ekiti that have surnames: Ogunkuade and Ogunkọrọde (same meaning); there are another people with same meanings: Osakuade and Osakọrọde (Orisa has brought wealth); Adeluyi and Adeniyi, etc. What you can argue is that, the 'w' in Adesuwa is most time silent in Yoruba's (Adesua). You can ask people in Eastern Yoruba states the meaning of names like "Olumilua" and several samples I already mentioned above. In Eastern Yoruba, 'owo - money' is 'egho, pronounced 'eo or eho'; when Itsekiri would say: mini/meni, meji; Ekiti would say: ini, eji; proper Yoruba: ookan, eeji. Uyọ̀̀(Ilaje), Ọyọ̀(Ekiti)̀=Ayọ̀ (the joy I have = uyọ meyọ/mẹyọ, ọyọ̀ meyọ/mọyọ = ayọ moyọ)̀. Adesuwa is a Bini name but it is also an Eastern Yoruba name. It's hard to find someone from Oyo state for example, having names like, Adesuwa, Osasọna, Adesọna (Ekiti/ Ondo states); what you'll have them bearing are Adesọrọ/Adesẹyẹ Oluwasewa/Olusewa, Adesewa. The Eastern and central Yoruba dialects respectively are older and deeper than the North Western Yoruba dialects; 'Ọnà and Okun' are deeper than 'ẹwà and pẹlẹ' (beauty and sorry). |
tohyorsih2:In Ekiti it means, 'She has come to wealth, come to make wealth or crown makes wealth, also a celebrity... 'Uwa, Ua (Ekiti and some others leaves out 'w') mean 'wealth' or to celebrate, being celebrated, just as 'Uyi' means 'fame or prestige' but in central Yoruba 'Iwa & Uwa in C/E Yoruba' can also mean 'Character' while 'Ọrọ'̀ is 'wealth'; 'Uyi' is 'Iyi'; Adesua/Adesuwa in C/E Yoruba=Adeṣẹyẹ in proper Yoruba. Adesuwa is a Bini name, you can give your child but it's a name people bear across Edo, Ekiti, Ondo states and to some extent among Ìjèsà and Ife in Osun State. Just like names with predix like Osa, Ogun, Aideyan, etc and those with sufix like Uwa, Ua (Adesuwa, Adesua, Akinlua, Adelua, Ademilua), Uyi (Ademiluyi, Suyi, etc). |
He should please use his good photographing office in Aso Rock to beg Buhari to direct that Faṣọla of a minister to do something about Ado - Akure road, may be he will listen. That's one of the worst roads in the country, particularly the Ondo part of the road. I wonder if Akeredolu has abandoned Igoba in Akure to Iju. Alasoadura no even get shame, very annoyed passing in front of his house on that road recently. You've done well for your former school; more power to your elbow. |
omenka:To add to this, there was no time PDP or other parties zoned their presidency to South West rather it was zoned to the South or North. Didn't Ekwueme, Etiebet, and others content for PDP primary in 1999? |
adelekeolu:First of all, Tinubu is eminently qualified for the president just like you and me. Secondly, the North cannot hold on to power for long, though they've got the number but can't face the SW and SS troubles... that'll be the end of the country if they tried such, as they can't imagine Lagos and it's ports, their investments like Dangote's, Rabiu's, etc and SS's oil money slipping away; they are actually wiser than most of us in the south think. And thirdly, they will want someone from SW and probably later from SS to be the president. Though I want SE's president but the reality of thing is far from such; emotions and name callings do not produce a president. Although SE had been partnering the North since 1954 except in 2015 but they had failed to set the terms and when the North was forgetting Biafra, there comes GEJ's issue and Kanu's revival of hatred. To some scholars, democracy is a worst form of government in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria. A group can simply be sidelined without a perfect constitution and numbers. Hence there is need for new constitution (which will have the regional Independence Clause the Eastern leaders rejected in the 50s) and true federalism (which Ironsi canceled in 1966). |
oyebanji44:If one thinks deeper, we can only become the president through 3 things: number, force and tact. Tinubu is trying to combine the 3 by reaching out to the North to have number 1. Sometimes, it's good to pick wisdom over intelligence. |
TomorrowToday:Yes, it is the same code and text message is sent when your package arrived. Most time I paid 200 when I got my package from Ogui Post Office (that's where you'll collect your package not Okpara Ave. PO) but the last time I didn't pay for the Satfinder I bought on AliExpress, although they took my item to 9th mile Post Office. |
yomzy4cool:A text message was sent to me to come for the package; thanks so much. |
yomzy4cool:Thanks so much for your efforts. More blessings! |
