TheGoodJoe:Drogba another African player as talented as he was score a little above 100 goals playing for Chelsea. Vardy scored over a 100 for Leicester. Defoe playing with Sunderland westham Tottenham scored over a 100. |
zicky:My brother, we come from a poverty driven society where football is a means to an end. Even academics is also a means to an end here. A friend on mine had a scholarship to Oxford for his masters degree in law. His roommate a British, who was running his masters in theoretical physics asked my friend his intention after college. My friend's goal was straight forward being an A student he hopped to secure a job in a multinational oil firm which he eventually did , while his roommate was just to maximize his God given talent by merely acquiring the degree and retiring to his fathers country side farm. My point is if a young kid in Europe has an opportunity to play in an academy simply because he was born there , so long as that kid grows and his mettle doesn't reach the desires of an ambitious club he is dropped. World beaters like Saido Mane who grew up playing in African villages realized what football meant to them. Average yet hungry players like Tammy Abraham who were opportuned in a supportive environment realized how much commitment they must put in to get to where they are. Does Tammy look perfect despite all the opportunities ? Of course not, there are many loop holes in his game but he has excelled amongst hundreds of his young colleagues to be where he is. |
chrisooblog:You guys are really funny on this arguement. How can you think wearing booths and having a father to drop you off at your football academy is the criteria to succeed in football. Look at it this way. It's like academics where a rich parents pays for the best school for a child and a poor parent manages to send the child to a public school or a village school. What's gonna be the outcome of this. The answer is very easy as each person here can simply conduct that analysis on his or herself. That you are attending the most expensive secondary school in Nigeria is an investment in a child's future simply because of the exposure it brings along. That you have attended a public school or village school is based on the individuals ability to display extraordinary academic performance to boost his chances of moving forward to the university and getting a good job. If you are the rich normal kid, you will go to a university ( which is like the soccer booths) you will get a degree and if you are intellectually gifted get a job without the influence of your parents. If you aren't so bright you might need the connection of your parent to secure a job( like how English players always get offers and loans easily even when they don't perform well in the current club) If you are the public school chap in the university, who still manages to hold on to excellence in academic performance you must be really exceptional for that academics achievement to bring you a great job that totally liberates your family from poverty ( think that Nigerian working in big tech or Silicon Valley like Microsoft , google or Wall Street , or big oil firm) think of that one guy from university days who got such jobs on pure merit ( think about every Nigerian player who worked his way playing football in Nigeria before making headlines at the Dailies or national tv) it couldn't have been easy to be mikel obj at Chelsea or iheanacho at Manchester city (they both conquered the world by their hardwork respectively at under 20 for former and under 17 for the latter winning their nation laurels) But the bottom line is , how many rich kids get good jobs after attending expensive and supposed good schools today? How many English players are in the first team of the top six teams of the EPL. The truth is everyone wants the best and whatever opportunity you are presented with in life it will always be up to you to make the best out of it. |
TheGoodJoe:And from those opportunities we have the likes of Tammy etc. You cannot reduce those who have worked hard to find themselves at the pinnacle of attaining professional careers to mere opportunities when hundreds of their colleges regrettable do not make it. If it was easy a larger fraction of those youth stars will still be in the peak of their professional careers. So however you make the argument. The ultimate factor for success is not the question of environment. However as positive as an environment might seem there are it's negative and vice versa |
TheGoodJoe:Igeanacho is our real gem. I just feel there can't be any room for further development in Leicester for him. What is in him is bigger than the channel Leicester manages him |
komekn:How many players have Messi's first touch How many players have the skill and dexterity of Ronaldo. Does Messi have this ? I mean we can go on and on in asking how many players share a similar attribute and quality to what a certain player is distinguished for. Now how many of these players have the aggression of osimhen. If clubs are rumored to need him that shows there is something uniquely different about him. Aren't you wondering why the so called big English teams are the ones rumored to be needing him. They have scouts who give them report just as you are a pertime scout with championship Fulham |
BascoVanVeli:Lol. You made me laugh because I always want to take a mental note of African players as well. Well, when Toronto played philly I noticed there were four Africans. Two Nigerian and two Cameroonian extractions. OG Anunobi, Precious Achunwa and Pascal Siakem all played for toroto against Joel Embiid Philly. And it was really awesome watching them making great impact |
Gentlerespect76:To further buttress your point about the only child selling his mothers property. He is the sole heir to the property. And If selling the property to gain the chance at bettering his life is guaranteed he should sell it. While leave in penury and end up in penury in a house you can't maintain. |
Jargozaza:Aaah of course before. |
Jargozaza:One of those strangely odd good things about this country. How he has continued to survive in this country ![]() |
andrewbaba44:Wow Madrid has been runinng on profit ni sha. Just image within that time they won like 3 CL yet they've spent the least amount of money. Kudos to Perez or whoever has been in charge all these while Oya on second thought oga Andrew see gal Galaticos. You no go leave Barca support them. Because the future for Barca is not looking it ooo. See Madrid na better team ![]() |
BascoVanVeli:I love this your optimism about Jordan oo. But I think it's too fast to conclude. This is just his first true season where he is playing. Last season he was quite fringe on the play offs. I think he is still developing , plus coming back from an injury might play a factor. He would get decent time and as a shooter he will make a couple of doubles. What's left is for the bigger players like Giannis to be injury free and carry the team. This time without the man who bailed them out at critical times in the playoffs last season. I'm talking about middleton. I mean bigger players in the level of nwora like ha morant are using this playoff to equally gain some experience. And it's been very difficult for them so far simply because its the playoffs. No seme-seme |
komekn:The fact that Ike has been a former goalkeeper , who at the height of his career was better than spartan rotterndam goalkeeper coaches and has access to materials for institutions as his counterparts in Europe, puts him in a constructively better position to teach him |
komekn:So you must have shed tears of joy? |
charlesemeka85:So if e be one we for come dey fear ? |
hatakekakashi:Sarcasm or real thoughts |
drDoom3:That was the hype they created around the personality , the justification for it was his sterling season at Charleroi and his cameo at Lille. But there were more comparison with him and Tammy Abraham them. And till today that comparison still suits both players. That to me is how good both are for now while playing in Seria A against teams that are of almost equal capabilities. When the real decisive factor lies is their ability to attract bigger teams to bid for them or perhaps a move to the premier league for any of them. They are still as good as themselves. But only time will tell who would surpass who in future |
Kog45:Let's look at awoniyi's career rise through this lens and understand what I'm saying sir. At the under 17 he was behind Isaac success during the World Cup. Success is injured and Awo rises up to the occasion where he enjoyed success at the under 17 , he is the front man under manu garba at the under 21 level winning the super six with flying eagles against the top 5 or 6 NPL teams, winning the under 21 AFCON beating Senegal on home soil in the final. Awo's rise at the youth championships did not situate him in the ranks of kelechi iheanacho or Isaac success who had earlier secured a move worth 3 million euros to udiness pre under 17 World Cup. His move to Liverpool who loaned him out on his journey to Germany-Belgium-Germany was viewed by many to have been decent considering his fringe players status. I dare say he is the most successful of all players between the 2013 and 2015 player who was loaned out from his parent club and later found a stable path to rise. The Nwakali brothers had their parent club at Manchester City and Arsenal. But where are they today. The other starlet at Porto think yayha , chidera, etc where are they today? They've all hit a rock on their careers. Isaac success escapades and weight issues have brought him back to udiness. Of all these guys only three of them have maintained a name due to sheer talent, luck and hard work. They are iheanancho osimhen and ndidi. Awo is enjoying a rise, but he has been injured and has found it difficult settling down early on but this is quite different from osimhen' s whose career rather hit rock bottom with series of injuries. Awo should look Sebastian haller who is a striker built like him. Haller did tear down the german league. But struggled at west ham. Dennis style and play is not the same with Awo. You can be a flop in a lesser league and come good at a revered league . I worry so much about Awo having to struggle in the EPL |
drDoom3:He shouldn't think premier league for now if he is gonna struggle to get 15 needing 2 more goals with seven games remaining. If he does 15 he should still sit down in the German league for another season to prove and solidify his confidence and his doubters like me that he is a true potential worthy of outdoing any striker be with the super eagles or any level. That's the mindset he should have and the mindset of players we need in the super eagles. |
Subzero47: meaning thats too low a standard ? or too much to achieve ? |
komekn:Oya, How many did he win ? |
Mooh247:Don't just jump the gun. When you leave your country to another country your first point of contact is your home country embassy in that new country. Usually many will only make it a point of contact when they receive hostile or unfavorable reception from the host country |
charlesemeka85:I'd say grab it with both hands. He isn't getting any younger and benfica will not have much pressure on him. Sadiq is a step by step player who builds confidence overtime. Playing at benifica and getting decent game time in the CL should help him |
BascoVanVeli:Baba say when we get to our "home town" we celebrate again. Igbo man and home town ![]() |
Bascovanveli3:Omo mhen you and this your opening introduction voice. I know it's standard practice but could you pls put it at the ending of the video ehn baba basco |
andrewbaba44:Hahahaha. He had his moments. Defensive wise he had some good interceptions offensively he was ok. I saw his through pass to Richardlison. But he was just average. |
Is it true Amaju Pinnick has agreed to step down as NFF president? Well if true, I'd say his effort and love for the Eagles during his time have been average. But it's even more appreciated that he has set a new benchmark to step down which is unlike many public officials in Nigeria. However his decision to step down is hinged on family reason and not because he considers his failures as president of the football federation a justification to do so. However we are grateful for his time managing football affairs in the country. My grouse with him is not about the national team. But rather the cadet teams. Whatever success we enjoyed in 2015 under 17 World Cup were less of his effort. I hope whoever steps in can at least help with out under 17 team. If that's the only World Cup I'd enjoy Nigeria winning let it always continue to be so. |
elyte89:Those days we were playing qualifiers with just a hand few of our top stars. Yobo and Enyeama were the most regular. Till our hopes of qualifying for the World Cup was fading where we paraded our full compliment of stars. Going to Algeria scoring 4 goals in Algiers. Beating Zimbabwe in Abuja and scoring 5 goals. That's when we played the best Ghanaian team which qualified Ghana for World Cup for the first time at the AFCON 2006 and we beat them. We had Taiye Taiwo and young mikel obi joining the team after their exploits from 2005 under 21 World Cup. We will get knocked out of AFCON by the Ivorian golden generation led by Didier Drogba. Funny enough this Eagles team was coached by Eguavone after the then NFA had sacked Christian chukwu |
elyte89:The days when john utaka will score a hat trick one week score four goals the next weekend and score another hat-tricks the next weekend. Went to Pompey and for like the first two months he lifted poutmouths. Yet he was a winger in the national team and was very decent. Can't forget the goal he scored against Cameroon that ended Cameroon's reign over eagles at AFCON 2004. The match where JJ scored a wonderful free kick. It was on a Sunday and we would watch the match in church |
andrewbaba44:Yellow card or coin toss? |
andrewbaba44:Nigeria qualified with 4 points too under keshi the last time |
Sportilitica:You guys are still smarting from our last match. I'm too. |
