Fikayo Tomori said he didn't get a call from Nigeria The 21-year-old has been a revelation in the heart of Chelsea’s defence this season, and that has earned him a call-up to England’s national team, but he has now revealed it was not a given he was going to represent the Three Lions ahead of Nigeria and Canada Tomori was also eligible to play for one of Canada or Nigeria, but he is set to feature for England after he was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Speaking on why he decided to choose England ahead of Canada and Nigeria, Tomori said he would have represented either of those countries had they extended an invitation to him before England did. In an interview with Goal where Soccernet.ng got excerpts from, Tomori revealed it was not 100% sure he was going to play for England despite representing them at youth level. “England is such a big nation, as well as Nigeria and Canada, so I think I was going to be happy with whoever called me up – but it’s nice it is England,” Tomori said. “It wasn’t England all the way. I had certain people and certain things that I had to consider. I spoke to my family and people that I care about it and that’s the decision I came to. So, when England came calling, it was difficult to say no. “It was just more of a thing I was waiting for a call-up because the last international break I didn’t get a call-up from anyone. This international break, I was waiting for a call-up and England called me up. |
ChrisKels:Where do u guys come up with this undone, unfathomable, unacceptable, unreasonable and conspiratorial news from. This is totally ridiculous and trashy |
komekn:Yeah, in 2014 i had spent some time in Bamako and I can tell u that Nigerians are many over, there what left me agape was when I visited Sikasso, this place is no close to any average town in south west, I came across a couple speaking yoruba who live there. I was so excited I got talking with them, though I had my suspicion as to their reasons being there, I was made to know that even at this Sikasso there is a sizeable number of Nigerians. |
safarigirl:Lolz safari you'd be surprised the number of Nigerians in this country sef. Especially Mali and Burkina Faso |
Five players from the Eritrea side competing in the regional CECAFA Under-20 Challenge Cup have reportedly absconded from the team hotel in Jinja, Uganda, and are seeking asylum ![]() Uganda must be paradise. So which west African nation are we paradise to at least? Don't call those ewa agonyi beans sellers from Benin or Togo. |
jihday:I buy your Idea on the need for foreign born.. But on the other hand, what makes a country a footballing country is simple. It means the sport is the most popular sport in that country. |
Rebirth of Ramon Azeez The 2019/20 season has come as a rebirth for Nigerian and Granada CF midfielder Ramon Azeez, and he has embraced it, as his performance in La Liga with the newly promoted side has propelled him back into football conversations. Azeez first caught the eyes back in 2009, playing as an Under 17 with Nigeria’s Eaglets in the FIFA World Cup on home soil. The young midfielder was voted the Bronze Ball winner, and tipped to excel in his senior career despite the team failing to win; losing to Switzerland in the final by the odd goal. However, it was a big ask, because the transition has never been seamless through the youth groups in the national team; Great talents fall by the way side; lose focus and fail to hit the heights expected. It was almost similar for Azeez, his journey into professional football got off the block two years after the 2009 U17 World Cup. He moved to Spain, where he joined La Liga side Almeria, and by 2014 he was at the FIFA World Cup with the Super Eagles. It went downhill from there and relegation to the Segunda Liga meant the midfielder was off the radar. Snubbed by national team Coaches, wallowing in the second division of Spanish football with lowly CD Lugo, Azeez had hit the nadir of his career. His resurgence will come though, with Granada and in 2019. The club gained promotion to the top flight and 7 games in, they have defeated La Liga giants Barcelona, are second in the league and Azeez has already equalled his all-time season’s league goal record – 2 goals. That impressive showing this season has also seen him earned a recall to the national team; for Nigeria’s friendly against Brazil in October. About his performance and return to the Super Eagles, Azeez told www.brila.net it was a result of delibrate effort to improve his game over the years. “I was very happy, and it shows the amount of hard work I’ve put in, these past years,” he said. He recalled his humble beginnings on the streets of Lagos and how he left home as a teen to the State’s nerve center for football activities, to compete against the best. “I started playing football in Ikotun Egbe, I was born there. As a young and aspiring footballer, I had to leave home and give myself a better chance of making it. “My Manager, who still is my Manager Today, took me from Ikotun to Agege. I played for several teams and in competitions, until God opened the way for me,” recounted Azeez about his formative years. These days , he’s become one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the game from Africa, but he remains grounded. He says he’ll play any position because he fancies himself as a much refined footballer today and explains his target with Granada and the national team for the season. “I come with a blend; I like to call myself a mix midfielder. It is much like a box-to-box player because I can play either as a defensive or attacking midfielder. “My Target is to get more playing time and have a good game when I do. I’m a box-to-box midfielder, but it really depends on what the Coach wants from me on the pitch. The 26 year-old will return to the Nigeria dressing room by the international break and hope to suit up against Brazil, who have one of the best midfield and attacking force in football. He isn’t fretting though and there’ll be no change to his routine of preparing for the game he said. “I pray first, I talk to my family, then I listen to a song. After that I walk onto the field to do my job.” |

Our unreserved apologies goes to komke who had always thought Tammy Abraham was better than Iheanacho. We are beginning to believe you. But perhaps calm down on your hypes on British born, maybe, just maybe you can come across as an objective and logical Nigerian football analyst. |
Kayode must now score to balance this matter.. If he doesn't score then Forgiveness must admit that okereke and onuachu are better. |

Sundowns vs Supersport. I just saw the referee send the ball-boy to the dressing room for holding on to the ball longer to favour the home team. |
Okereke scores the second goal again. He is now on a hatrick |
Don't blame Rohr he has always said semifinals was his target. He couldn't see beyond that long ago. We thought he was only trying to sound humble. |
If it were to be a European team that makes me feel average, I'd understand it's a factor of techniques and tactics, but not this Algerian side |
Against South Africa, after ekong's goal akwa ibom governor said this is a goal made in akwa ibom for Nigeria. Now against Algeria, what will he say ![]() |
safarigirl:It's mind games here.. He knew she was trying to get him, so he needed to hit back at her and what she was doing to his mind, hence he used that sentence |
MetalJigsaw:I Am not talking about club here. I am simply referring to the "that guy" moment. What's the that guy moment?? Hypothetically this would be watching a football game anywhere and u see a particular player handle the ball or say display some attributes beyond those who he is up against. At this moment your curiosity is piqued to know more about the player, and it starts with the name. You are like What's his name or what number does he wear. Certainly, with Chelsea winning a European cup and Nigeria winning the Nation's cup. Mikel gave himself a drive to be in the top 3. (p.s I now recall how pained I was that yaya toure whose team could only get to the quarter finals could emerge african player of the year.) but then, you cannot take away the "that guy" moment from toure. My point is it's the same with brahimi with Porto. Mikel had it too, obviously why he came second. But then not consistent enough for any average fan to always want to pick his name up in their memories forever. More-or-less the reasons why the ex Algerian player could not easily mention his name. |
