There is this belief that the route to work authorisation into the US labour market is straightforward and automatic just because one studied at and graduated from an institution in the US. That belief is entirely false. It is not automatic neither is it straightforward. The aim is to gain work authorisation into the US labour market, which is what the NIW is for. It is your responsibility to go through its requirements.

Moving from the UK as a FOREIGN graduate to work in the US is the same if you were in Nigeria and the same for British citizens. There is no automatic route. The NIW is the preferred route. It might be faster in the UK, but the process is the same.
Thanks. Understood

If your sponsors aren't very rich, it is pointless to study in the US. Better seek full funding from the department. Alternatively, if you have a BSc and five year work experience or BSc&MSc, apply for NIW. Studying in the US doesn't translate to the right to work in the country as that route is lottery dependent. Your target should be to gain the right to work in the US rather than study. Once that right is achieved, you play the long game to permanent residency and eventual citizenship.
Are you saying one can hustle right to work without being a student first? And if one is a student. And how easy is it for someone in the UK with msc to transit to the US
Politics / Re: Hardship: Nigerians Are In Pains And Frustration. My Experience This Morning. by macklef(m): 9:24pm On Mar 01
Seezion:
Nigeria is already known as one of the poorest countries in the world but i believe the duty of governments of the country (if they are sincere to themselves) is to work to change the status and not to make policies that deepened the poverty situation.

Whether anybody likes it or not, the policies taken by this government which is responsible for the hardship Nigerians are currently going through would only render more Nigerians poor and poorer.

In a country where unemployment/underemployment is so high, people are struggling to even feed and survive. A very good example is myself. I am underemployed, that is to say my salary is poor and nothing to write home about. Not as though i'm happy about this as i am still looking for better opportunities.

Of truth, only N600 was left with me yesterday. I couldn't afford to have dinner and so i slept empty stomach that yesterday. There's this woman selling bread near a bakery along the road i pass to work. Her price is considered the cheapest, so many people buy from her. My plan was to use the N600 to buy bread from there, which i can manage throughout the day or even till tomorrow, hopefully miracle can happen and another money enters my hand.

As i went there this morning, the N600 bread is now N800. No surprise about that at all, knowing the country we are living in today. This spoilt the plan and i was confused, disturbed and broken down. I stood there for over 5 mins hopelessly, with hunger and anger in me.

That small time, one elderly woman in the shop was sobbing. I later realized she started crying after she couldn't afford the current price of rice. Another guy came and asked for a pack of indomie and was told N1000. He sighed bitterly and left. Then i saw another two guys who came to the shop, joined their money together (400+400) and bought the N800 bread and divided it into two, for each.

That was a nice decision though even though it would reduce the quantity, but as i didnt see someone to join too, i left the place to work without buying the bread.

Any alternatives for me?

There's absolutely no alternative for since everything is on the high side. I could have opted for rice and beans, but i wont know when i will start crying after mamaput has dished the quantity for me. Surely it will be small. So i decided not to go near there. What about Garri and soup? I dont know for everywhere but i can tell you, there's mow where i could find a plate of Garri and soup for N600. Even if there is, i would still cry over the quantity. What about noodles that used to do 'rescue mission'? Well, i just told you a pack is now N1000, when i had only N600 with me. What of biscuit? I refused to "waste" my last money on something that would not last me the next 1 hour after i have eaten. Akara? Have you seen the sizes of Akara in recent? N100 own looks very small, so i still decided not to buy.

At the end, all options failed. Till this minute, nothing has entered my stomach and i'm still holding tight to my N600. Yes i am hungry and weak but the N600 must be for something that can keep me for a while, hopefully another money would come my way before i am hungry again.

Sadly, my in quote "salary" is still far, till Thursday next week, but i have to survive however it is.

It's a very tough time for most of us Nigerians right now.

Lastly, government should know that
most Nigerians are not asking for luxury, just basic things made affordable for survival and food is obviously not affordable to many Nigerians today. Please government should do something about food crisis in the country.

May God help us, the common citizens.
I should still have 1k to spare in my account. It can do sth I guess. Drop aza

Wow.

You all see why Reno Omokri was right about his buy local campaign...

This shows that the foreign airlines are just making massive profits if peace can peg his coat at 1.2M and he is still making profit.
How much was the foreign charging? 600 or 700pounds for return trip. If exchange was even at 500, that's less than 700k go come. Its our exchange rate that's the problem not their fare cos dey are not local carriers.

This is now the era of millions to travel. The next era will envy us when it costs billions to travel
The era of hundreds of thousand did not last at all between buhari and Tinubu. They just took things to the next level so fast.

To be honest even outside the country the hustle continues but the difference is you see the results of your hardwork. You can plan stuff, work towards them and actually see the results manifesting but it's a whole different scenario in Nigeria. People who are still getting married and giving birth to Nigerian born children are some of the bravest human beings on eart

skj1377:

Yes. But not all Forex demand are legitimate. Our economy has to be regulated to prevent abuse of Forex request. Wealthy individuals want every Naira they make converted to dollars simply because they don't believe in Nigeria. A better regulated economy will filter out such Forex request.
Secondly, remittance from diasporas don't get to the central bank. What we have is an app that keeps Forex outside our economy only to credit recipient in Naira so the economy depends on only Government Dollar inflow from NNPC. A better regulated economy will stifle out such transaction. Finally am of the opinion that only Government should hold Forex. All domiciliary accounts should be closed.
Swell, I wish we live in a sane clime, mopping out forex from the hands of individuals is really the only way forward, but what kind of policy would actualize this as forex is not govt currency and those who own the currency enjoy seeing countries currency crumble before them. IMF wants this disparity, there is little really that can be done than increasing local production.

What this central bank Governor is doing is crashing the currency. He had better stop this Naira floating policy and be more realistic.
Even if the policy is reversed, does the govt have enough forex to back dollar demand? The black market will still float supreme.
The stenght of the naira has to do with how much foreign currency the country can boast of, or how solid its local production can fight off foreign demand

It is obvious that the recent steep decline in the value of the naira is not due to any proven economic factor.
It is artificial, mainly due to speculations by Nigerians.
I think the government should not intervene but ensure that there is little or no room for arbitrage as they seem to be doing lately.
Let the naira even fall down to 10,000 to the dollar if that is what the currency speculators want.
The market will naturally get to a bursting limit, like all ponzi schemes are bound to, where late entrants will lose heavily.
There is no difference between ponzi and what they are doing now.
It's either we improve local production or allow manufacturers and genuine business access forex easily at official rates. This is only what can shame the black market operations
