Car TalkRe: The Reason Why That Your Tokunbo Car Keeps Overheating Here In Nigeria by Macmilla(m): 11:26pm On Jun 10, 2015
femi4:
A thermometer or temperature sensor picks temperature values depending on the state of the engine. The regional/enviroment temperature is inclusive.

For example, i noticed that the thermostat activate the fan quicker in the hot sun compared to early morning cold start.
The thermostat understand its work perfectly, at heavy traffic, the fan picks up immediately as if it was directly connected
I'm not a mechanic and I probably don't know shii about cars, but simple physics will suffice here. All this talk about our temperature being too hot simply means that you guys don't know simple physics of thermostat function. Yes our temperature may be hotter, we have 32deg and they have 0deg, soo? The thermostat is designed to open at 82 degrees for instance, and whether you are heating from 32 or -3, everything eventually comes to 82 and voala!, the thermostat opens and maintains that temperature. The thermostat doesn't heat up ur engine nor does it cool it down, it only stops the cooling system to allow the engine get to 82deg or so. It's business is stopping you at 82deg, whether you are coming from 32 or -100 is not its business. Yanking it off simply means that the car can no longer maintain the engine temperature at 82 which is what the car needs to run efficiently. The implications of not running at that optimum temperature will be explained by the car gurus here.

I don't know how else to explain it.

You can still use the recommended engine oil. The mistake you made is that you could have flush the first before changing the oil then. It's because majority of our mechanics don't even know the difference in these engine oil. They could have advised you better to use an engine flush before changing the oil. It works. ...
I used a flush b4 the recommended oil but I ended up using extra 2L of oil within a month of very mild driving cos it kept dropping. That is not acceptable to me.

At 9am this morning I heard an unusual cry and screaming from a compound next to mine. I moved closer and after a close observation I discovered a guy was trying to rape a girl. I quickly called on my cousin and I swiftly climbed over the fence and shouted at whoever it was to come out, immediately a young girl ran out crying with blood in her mouth and bruises on her body and young boy came out sweating and started explaining without any question from me that he was only playing with her.

I asked the girl, and she said the boy was trying to rape her. The guy was a gateman while the girl was a maid in that house so I quickly asked for their boss's number and put a call throughtto him and luckily their boss was still within the Estate and before 10mins time he showed up and we took the guy to the police station! he started crying and begging that is the devil's handwork And that was when he mentioned that he is 25yrs old and the gal is just 17yrs old, what a pity!

As I post this now the boy is already in the police station crying and wishing he could turn back the hands of time but it is too late cause I am ready to follow this issue up and make sure he is prosecuted. We must fight rape, abuse and violence against women! every rapist must face the law. Thanks for your time for reading this. And please let's put hands together to stop this violence called Rape.
Your story was of a boy that 'molested' a girl. The word molest means several things as can be seen in the picture below. When talking about sensitive issues like this, I suggest you use more specific words. Thanks.

Are the rings oem? Don't bother replacing the rings.
Yeah, I guess they are. They've never been replaced b4.

So now we are stuck with the wrong oil, does it mean we should start saving up money for a new engine? Is there no way to revive the engine?
Note, the engine does not give issues in any way. One touch start, good response, only smokes if reved up to 5000rpm when stationary (I don't know if that's normal)

Thanks. With men like you, there is hope for Nigeria.
It's annoying when a family sees a wife as a nonentity they can always clean their dirty hands on. My sister-in-law calls me by my name even when I'm older than her by 4yrs. But I know she loves and respects me completely, some times, even more than the husband (the respect part only o tongue ). If I want her to wake by 2am to prepare me food, I can do it and she will not complain, but I dare not try it, cos it's the rest of my family that will kick my asss even when she is not complaining cos she is our wife, not our househelp. That's how we love her. Yet she doesn't call us brother or uncle or auntie. We love it that way.

You are stuck with it until you get a new engine. For now you can go semi synthetic total quarts 7000 sold for 4700 it's 15w50.
So even new rings as suggested by the mech won't help?
Car TalkRe: After Using Total 20w50 For 6 Years, Is There Any Effect If I Want To Change To by Macmilla(m): 10:24pm On Jun 09, 2015
GAZZUZZ:
6years! Don't know the oil change intervals but I can guess, sludge is presently protecting the engine from failure, once you introduce "the original" but a thiner oil that takes car of the sludge problem, then you start having the oil shortages, then the rattling then finally the knock. Iv seen it happen twice.
This actually explains my recent fear. I used 5w-20 for the first time following a filter change. Within a few weeks of mild driving, I have topped up my oil with more than 2L of oil. I was really worried. The car doesn't smoke, though scanning has always revealed low catalyst efficiency.
Please, Gazzuzz, what is the way out? Are we stuck with 20w-50? One mech guy suggested changing the rings, what do you think?

My golden rule with in- laws is that I don't start what I cannot finish. Before marriage and during first year of marriage is when you let everybody both husband and in laws know what you can and cannot accept. It may cause some trouble then but at least they know and with time everybody will accept things the way they are and peace will return. Picking your battles is good but if people in the name of in law bring battles that should not be there in the first place, my advice is fight it. If you leave it, it gets worse and by the time you realise that the small battle is now big and you are ready to fight it, it may become very difficult as it is now the accepted lifestyle.

I will not call someone younger than me Aunty. If my in laws make that a battle, I will fight it.
You are wise joor. It's a partnership, not slavery. And if it's a partnership, the more sensible thing to do is to give my wife all the respect due for me. My mother will know better than to bring up such bullshit. She is my wife, not the family house help.

Are you not yoruba ni? You ought to have known all these before you got married to their son.
It is a normal thing here and I dunno why you are suddenly surprised about calling your little sister in law AUNT.
This act as been going on for ages. I have women old enough to be my grandmother call me that, not because of anything else but because they see me as their small mother/sister in law. Will it make them any lesser? Remove a strand of hair from their head? Make their nearer to their grave? NO!!!
These older women have seen it all and it's no longer a big deal to them. And that is why have been saying that to avoid fight with husband family in the future try enough to get to know them very well, even in the early start of the relationship, if u had known you'd be asked to call a girl younger than your sister AUNTY In the first place am sure u might have said no to the marriage proposal.
For the sake of peace in your home, u better start calling her that and dnt follow the advice of some so called feminist here that are ready to spoil others marriage.
You can call her name when she isn't there, but pls add the AUNTY when she is around. It will not reduce your phd certificate to waec. kiss
Arrant nonsense. Do you even know the meaning of aunt/auntie? If she is your SISTER-in-law, then what happened to "sister"?

Hello everyone, its that time again, the time for truth is here and I am going all the way, no matter what you all say smiley.

Let's talk about the things we do and things we claim we don't do, uncovering the truth in it all....

Oya leggo!

1. Guys Gossip
Hold your horses undecided. Guys get offended when you accuse them of this, but then its true and no, its not some, I mean all! All guys gossip. Everything is a topic, from football, to their guy's girlfriend (its either how sexy hot she is or how lame she is in the kitchen)...most times, the gist is about the new girl in the neighborhood. Don't argue this with me.

2. Girls Snore
This is the part they all flock into this thread with tiny voices screaming (or typing in this case), "Its a lie! I don't snore!". Take a chill pill sister, we all snore. No, it must not be the loud thunder-like snores like a guy's, sometimes its soft and sexy (like a kitten's purr)....or not tongue. Even I snore (purr, I mean) after a hard day's work or when I have stressed to a breaking point limit. So there's no need to break your nails over this because its true.

3. Guys Cry Too
Facts; The world is round, not all birds fly and guys cry. No need to come all macho, its true. You guys get emotional too, could be over a breakup (try denying this undecided), death of a loved one (that's normal) or even while watching a movie (no? Try watching "The Faults In Our Stars"wink.

4. Guys Cook Better Than Girls
Now this also a fact I have noticed. No, I am not saying all guys can cook, but do you know that the meal prepared by a guy tastes far better and more delicious than a girl's? I simply don't know how they do this but its damn true! You doubt this? Try it, then taste and see that he is a better cook.

5. Denial
Now all genders do this. They don't accept the truth about themselves even if it glares them at the face. And how can I prove this? Read the comments below....

Feel free to add yours smiley.
I love no. 4, backed by no. 5 grin

Lol. SOme people dont know there are bigger battles in life than small ego trips

A small story.

========================================================================
One of my uncles told us a story
2 friends John and Fred got a job in a bank in the 90's after they had worked in many other organisations

It now happened that one of their junior in school was the Head of their department. Like they was in final yr when the girl was in year 2 one of his coursemates babes those yrs

Later she insisted everyone in the dept call her "Ma". Both guys were so shocked and insisted they wont call her Ma

So she staged a drama at the bank

She started calling from her office

John!!

John answered YES.

Fred!!!!

His friend answered YES

Later she told them to wait now started calling other people in the dept

Ade!!! , Ade answered: Yes MA!!, Obi!!! Obi Answered Yes MA!! Steven!! Steven answered Yes MA

She now told both friends to go back out and she recalled them. John just answered even though reluctantly YES MA. Fred his friend refused and insisted on YES

They started a mini silent war. She wrote him up for insubordination gave bad appraisals and finally got Fred fired

over a yr later she was transferred out of the country.

And John today is a top shot at the bank while Fred after his sack only got a teaching job and struggled

Now think about it who lost on the long run

Yorubas usually say something about calling Malu(a cow) brother to allow us pass or call a mad man the groom so he would give us peace
Dumb story for ppl with little or no self esteem.
The lady is ur boss in the office and pays ur salary, so you have to give some respect. Even at that, you don't call her aunty for any reason, just 'ma'. And that doesn't stop her from also giving some respect in return if she has some reasoning.
LewsTherin:
I don't agree with you, friend. Except in specific corporate settings where it is insisted that everyone is referred to by their first name (like at the Hilton hotels) in every other organisation, you call your boss sir or ma. Their refusal to call her ma was an actual act of disrespect. She was their boss. End of story. But a sister-in-law 10 years her junior who will forever remain no more than a guest in HER AND HER HUSBAND'S house demanding some stupid affirmation of elderly respect because someone is married to her brother? Please!
Exactly my point.
