Takes time to break even. Newspapers make money through adverts, sales proceeds are not much. You could make it in two ways but one way is sustenable. You could turn to a praise singer and rake in quick cash but will soon be forgotten or you write the truth and slowly gain a very long lasting reputation. You also need good, well educated, urbane folks as writers. You also need a lot of hitech communication gadgets, that way your reporters also double as photographers and make up staff. |
He helped me add one more product to my line and the business is experiencing a lot of increase. This year God gave me customers that pay cash in advance and wait for me to produce and supply. That is a big boost to liquidity and I honestly don't feel all the cash crunch others are complaining about. On the family front, the kids are doing us all proud in their academics and personal lives. More doors are opening to me in the area of selling intellectual property. Already compiling kingdom commitments for 2010. |

Godwin, no mind them, dem dey jealous you because you fine no be small. Do you have any more photos to post? Why did you put only phone number? House address nko? Village address too. |
@manny4life You are RIGHT. I know a very big company that fled to Ota. Said taxmen were visiting daily and behaving like thugs. The thing is that fashola is popular and uses hype to intimidating level that he will soon stop hearing the truth. Many biz are getting ready to run but are not saying why because of his intimidating stature and stance. Some just give one or two reasons but refuse to mention the main reason which is harrassment. He now has a driving institute that we all have to pay to attend and be certified fit very soon. The certification is renewable annually. That is aside the fact that some of us started driving long ago and have our driving licences. It is becoming too uncomfortable here. |
Yes, No one is against paying tax. The problem is with double or even triple taxation with no basis. If you run a business in Lagos, you will understand. You will pay for one thing several times to LGA, state and FG. There is no attempt to encourage enterprise. We all know Lagos needs money but must the state pursue it in such a way that they will encourage flight of businesses. Many companies are re-locating to Sango for some quiet ear. He hires crude thugs and gives them revenue targets and they run wild on the streets. We did not empty the nation's coffers so he must not visit the resultant desperation on poor folks struggling to make a living. |
When I complained about the tax men of Lagos, folks thought I was not in support of taxation. I was just pointing out the crude unexplainable ways they treat people. I know some companies that left Lagos due to harrassment. One office could assess and collect your tax while the next one will suddenly upgrade you and your tax. They don't care how you got money to start business but they will assess you based on blind aruements about how big your company looks and how you must be rolling in money. Fashola might just get over-confident and spark a riot here. It is pure crime now to look comfortable in Lagos. |
Banks to sack 5,000 this week There are strong indications that the on-going wind of massive job cuts in banks will blow unabated before the end of the year. Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune indicated that apart from the two banks that sacked over 4,000 workers at the weekend, four banks have also concluded plans to distribute sack letters today. Nigerian Tribune learnt that two of the four banks fall in the category of those declared safe and sound by the recent special audit instituted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). A source close to one of the banks that has its head office in Marina, Lagos, who pleaded anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune that the sack letters had already been signed and would be distributed to the affected members of staff from today. According to him, about 2,000 workers had been earmarked for sack, adding that the management kept the list as top secret, as no one could readily say who would be affected. The source said no known criteria were employed for the exercise, stressing that it was part of cost-cutting measures. When contacted, the national president, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, (NUBIFIE), Mr. Hassan Adeleke, confirmed that only two banks had contacted the union since the mass sack began, stating that since the banks said it was inevitable, what the union wanted was that there were good severance packages for those affected. He warned that though the union was abreast of the prevailing circumstance in the banks, this should not be used as an excuse to trim the workforce. Speaking on the development, the Chief Operating Officer, Landmark Investments, Mr. Okechukwu Amadi, said what was happening in the banking sector was highly regrettable. Meanwhile, the World Bank has described the recent shake-up in Nigeria’s banking sector by the CBN governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, as a proactive step to save the economy from collapse. The Managing Director, World Bank Group, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, speaking with newsmen at the inaugural graduation ceremony of the AfricanUniversity of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, at the weekend, said Sanusi was doing a good job to restore sanity to the sector. Okonjo-Iweala, who is also the chairperson of the board of Nelson Mandela Institute, the parent body of AUST, Abuja, added that in view of the current global financial crisis, there was the need for strong supervision and risk management of the banking sector, which she said Sanusi was doing. The World Bank chief and Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance said “it is a good thing that we are transparent and open about our banking sector. The CBN governor is doing a good job.” She added that the consolidation was a good thing, “but now, it is time to have strong supervision and risk management and Sanusi is doing it.” (Source: Tribune) |

@seyenko Thanks for your very enlightening advice. I think it is a very practical way of quitting. I will get it and pass it on to some people who are struggling to quit especially the bit about minding the company you keep |

I eat reasonably but eat whatever I like at mealtimes. I can even take santana for breakfast and nothing go happen. The secret is to keep active and get up and do some physical labour every day. My favourite foods have always been eba, pounded yam, semo, akpu but I make efforts before I gain a little weight. I live an active life which included working at an outdoor job for many years, chasing three very active kids about for some years and running my biz so no time to store anything excess. I hate biscuits and all snacks though. Mitchelin sister, leave the sugary stuff alone, it has a way of despoiling a woman's entire system. You know we girls are the salt of the earth and need to stay for as long as we possibly can to keep the world moving. |
Ikotun Egbe. No robberies, fresh air, plenty of banks (infact too many of them), fun people, good water, still can get garden patches. |
We are a hardy breed but I believe there is something we are doing right for us not to have too many cases of allergy. Maybe it is bossom-feeding like someone pointed out or the hot weather ensures our systems move fast and are in top form. The Oyibo cold is something else and I believe it helps to make their systems delicate. I often wonder at them when they are listing things they are allergic to. Here we eat everything and no shaking. Going by our poor hygiene and general carelessness, we all ought to be down and in hospital. God is good sha. |
God rest her soul. May He also console those she left behind |
Ndi Igbo ndi oma, Ekeresimesi oma!!!! Chukwu due unu nke oma na oge oriri anyi no n'aya. |

Aru John Brown togboro n'ili (3times) Obi ya nagaghari, Glory, Glory Halleluyah (3 times) Obi ya nagaghari. John Brown's body lies a-rolling in the grave (3 times) And his soul goes matching on Those were the days!!!!!!!! |
Thank goodness they asked only Yoruba sons and daugthers to fast, I live in the south west but will not fast even if it had been made compulsory for all SW residents. I think the man needs to step aside and rest properly, if they keep on playing politics with his health our prayers will be of no use. |
@Poster Feel free to go for your M Sc programme now if your fiancee supports that. It is tough doing a lot of things when you are married and have/having kids. I remember how the Oga missed a crucial professional exam because he was to take it the day I had the first baby. He refused to leave the hospital for his exams despite my assurances that I will be ok. The funny part of it is that he became so busy at the office soon after that there was no time to read and he kept failing the exam. He kept attempting it until the baby in question got into nursery school. One day, she returned with a great result; her father said something about her being a chip of the old block. The girl told him to his face that he was lying. She said, 'but daddy you failed yor own exam'. She was listening the last time he came back with a tale of having failed the exam one more time. He passed the exam finally whe the second kid was seven moths old. By the way, your fiancee is not approaching menopause. She is still young. |
@ Vuitton Food processing. Sachet water, bottled water, water in jars. Tough biz but a good one when you learn the ropes. People must drink water, even if they can't afford solid food so I must have demand daily. |
I vowed that my 40th birthday must not meet me toiling for someone else and I summoned courage to leave when the ovation was high. It was rough, very rough initially. Today, the biz is paying school fees comfortably for the kids, feeding the family and leaving some cash for investing and expansion. I don't understand why people wait to be kicked out. Banish fear and escape the slavery. |
GOOD. This is welcome. I wonder when it became acceptable for people to freely use lewd language. It appears we all compete to see who uses the worst language here. |
In my own case with Starcomms, they suspended my account saying I was sending spam mails. I have never done any such thing and I was so sure there was a mistake somewhere until they printed and showed me the mail I purpotedly sent. I am still wondering what happened and how some one managed to send 419 mail from my system. Is that what is called hacking? Only me and the spouse were at home then and all adventurous souls, including the kids, were out of the house. The spouse is ruled out, he couldn't have done it. I had to pay for another modem. I still cannot figure out what happened. |
All the fine houses in my area bu nke ndigbo. The other fine houses di na FESTAC bu kwa nke anyi. Igbo g'adi. |
