BentSpoon: Ripping your argument on this topic would be just too darn easy... But your opening line shows you are not interested in a debate but just here to insult people who hold opposing views and shove your rather limited opinion down their throats. Learn to debate.. Insults don't make your opinions anymore valid than they are. 3 Likes |

somehow: Let me just put it in context what your opening line meant.. I break the law (which is what you do when you wear camouflage material) but I hide to do it. And that is why I am saying you should not have to be made to hide to do something that isn't a real crime save for that ridiculous law. Then you spoke of the Air force and Navy.. The Air force uniform is a shade of Blue and the Navy uniform is White. Like I pointed out in the first post, under that law and the way it is written and it's literal interpretation, wearing White Trousers, Air force Blue Trousers, Police Black trousers and Army Green Trousers are all illegal. This is the legal provision to support my argument.. Sections 110 & 111 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act, L.N. 112 of 1964, 1967 No. 27 states; “Any person who- Unlawfully wears the uniform of forces, etc. (1) not being a person serving in any of the armed forces of Nigeria, wears the uniform or any part of the uniform of such forces, or any of the armed dress having the appearance or bearing any of the regimental or other distinctive marks of such uniforms. “(2) not being a person holding any office or authority under the Government of Nigeria or of any part thereof, wears any uniform or distinctive badge or mark or carries any token calculated to convey the impression that such person holds any office or authority under the government; is guilty of an offence and is liable to imprisonment for one month, or to a fine of ten naira, unless he proves that he had the permission of the President or of the Governor of a State or wear such uniform or dress, badge or mark or to carry such token: Provided that this section shall not apply to the wearing of any uniform or dress in the course of a stage play or in any bona fide public entertainment.” Section 111 provides, “Any person who sells or gives any uniform, or part of any dress, badge or mark, as in the last preceding section mentioned, to any person who is not authorised to wear the same, is guilty of an offence and is liable to the penalties prescribed in the said section.” Section 251 of the Constitution also states; Any person who, not being a person serving in any of the armed or police forces of Nigeria, wears the uniform of any of these forces, or any dress having the appearance or bearing any of the regimental or other distinctive marks of any such uniform, in such manner or in such circumstances as to be likely to bring contempt on that uniform, or employs any other person so to wear such uniform or dress, is guilty of a simple offence, and is liable to imprisonment for three months or to a fine of forty naira.” Also pay attention to the fine and punishment for violating this law.. Says nothing about brutalising or stripping the person in public. So those soldiers broke the law as well. But I digress.. So basically, everybody wearing a Black trouser can be said to be wearing parts of the uniform of the Nigerian Police. Same for Green, White and Blue trousers. Bro.. That Law is silly and needs to be redrafted. Even the fine is 40 Naira.. Shows you how old the law is. Impersonation should be the crime. Wearing camouflage material shouldnt. There is a very big difference between both. A Woman wearing an Iro and Bubba made of camouflage material can't be accused of impersonation and shouldn't. You ask why wear it at all, I ask why Not? You say what are people not wearing Celestial Church uniform, I say people wearing White Kaftans or Jalabia (pardon my spelling) can be argued to be doing so.. But that is of no consequence to this discussion. The problem isnt the uniform, the problem is the fabric. Stay on topic. You say why are people not wearing Air force and Navy Uniforms, shows you don't fully appreciate the Camouflage thing because its actually a part of the uniform of the Police, Army, Air force and even the Navy. But again, it's not the uniform we are addressing, it's the general ban on the use of the fabric. Wearing the uniform of the Armed forces is impersonation, wearing a slim fitted camouflage jeans with a tee-shirt isn't. Again, there is a difference. You talked of secondary school uniform.. A lot of people are dressed in the uniform of a secondary school somewhere in Nigeria as we speak. My secondary school wore a white shirt and Blue trousers. I know a secondary school that wore White shirt and black trousers. Should we ban that too? Or make those fabrics illegal to wear? But again let me clear something up to you, A Man wearing a White Shirt and Blue trousers is not impersonating anyone from my Alma mater. But the moment that person slaps on the BADGE of my school on the left breast pocket of that shirt, he immediately becomes an impersonator. Hope you understand it now. On your closing argument.. That is why i am calling for the repeal and modification of that Law. And NO law has ever been changed in the history of mankind without someone willing to fight and even engage in some form of civil disobedience to achieve that. Thanks. 3 Likes |

somehow: Yeah.. I think you still don't get the point. The camouflage in itself is what should be decriminalized. Right now you can't wear a Camouflage underwear and not get in trouble.. Wearing a Camouflage to commit crimes means the person impersonated a soldier. Meaning the person dressed up like a soldier. But if you are wearing a Camouflage Suit or camouflage Kaftan for example or a Camouflage T-shirt with a Big Mickey Mouse Picture on the front Of pink neck bands and sleeve cuffs, that is not a military issue camouflage and should not be an offence. If a person impersonates (passes themselves off as) an officer, that is one thing (You don't even need to be dressed in camouflage to impersonate an officer). If a person is just dressed in some type of camouflage pants that has no semblance to an Army uniform, that's a different thing. Think of This.. The People being caught impersonating Army Officers today were not caught wearing designer camouflage clothes, they were caught dressed up as proper actual soldiers complete with boots and even guns in some cases. 2 Likes 1 Share |

somehow: Should everybody with a gun join the Army? Should everyone with a Black Beret join the Police? You do know that the camouflage also has civilian application too right? It can be a tool like for the hunter in the Bush, it can be a fashion statement as well. The job of the camouflage is to conceal and bland in making a person or thing less visible. It takes more than camouflage to be a military officer. |

Expsbterror: If you carefully read my post, I didn't attack the Army or the Military per se, I went after the law that permits them to even do shiit like this. There is a difference. Why is it that in some countries, such laws don't exist and yet they are fine? I have seen several videos of United States Marines confronting people who were impersonating them and when you looked at the people they were confronting, it left no doubt in your mind these persons were impersonating soldiers because they even had medals and ranks and even military grade dog tags. Here is my opinion, if a girl is wearing camouflage leggings for example, that is not even close to a military standard issue uniform and shouldn't be an issue. If a Man is wearing a Camouflage Tee-shirt with VERSACE written across the front, that is not a military uniform and shouldn't be a problem. I agree that people impersonate Military and para military officers to commit offences, but they also do same with many other professions. People impersonate commercial bus and taxi drivers to commit crimes as well. My point is the law is silly. I have spent the last 6 months of the year in neighbouring Benin Republic and they also have this Imperosnation law but it's not about the camouflage but actually impersonation. There must be a smarter way around this mess. I mean, the Nigerian Army beat up a Crippled Man in a Wheelchair because he was wearing camouflage trousers.. Who in the F.ucking world would have believed that beggar man was a military officer? I understand that it is the law, but laws evolve. 3 Likes 1 Share |

LionDeLeo: Well, you can make a blazer with a Camouflage material and still be subjected to this type of treatment. A blazer isn't a military uniform and can't be misconstrued as one either. For Hunters, camouflage is a big part of their job so it comes in handy but with this law, they can't use it either. Also a child can't wear one either under that law, how does one mistake a child for a soldier. That woman in the video was wearing a multicoloured skirt, I don't see how a Camouflage top could have given her any sort of military power or influence or anyone mistaken her for one. Think about it. 1 Like |

jakD: And that is the thing.. The problem isn't the uniform, the problem is the fact that the uniform is a tool for intimidation. That is what you should be fighting. Nobody wether in uniform or not should have the power to intimidate. That is like saying it's okay to be intimidated by an Officer not by those pretending to be one. The Day you take away the intimidation from the uniform, it becomes just a uniform. The Army officer didn't strip that lady because she was intimidating or impersonating an officer, he did it because his Uniform gave him such powers. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

These drivers really do put people's lives at risk. Just a few weeks back, I was returning from Benin republic when I overtook a similar type of truck only to run into a Police checkpoint ahead. They had stopped a vehicle ahead of me so I stopped behind that vehicle only for me to see from my side mirror that the truck had no brakes as the conductor of the truck was waving frantically for us to move whilst the truck driver was blaring his horns and gesturing as well and the Policemen just stood there watching. Luckily there was an opening right at the checkpoint for a U-turn and the driver swerved into the other side of the road and came to a stop on the median. Na so I for just take die for nothing. Why these drivers will put a vehicle with no Brakes on the road is shocking. And even then they will still be speeding. Nigerians really need to check ourselves. The value of human life in this country is absolute zero. If that truck had killed a person na sorry the matter go end. 17 Likes 1 Share |

Why is this Camouflage thing still a Law in this Nation? How is this considered appropriate in a nation of civilised people? I have seen photos of Senator Dino wearing a Camouflage and Governor Fayose wearing camouflage and nobody harassed them. Why is it okay for the people in Government positions to break the law and the citizens can't? I remember that even during the Military regimes, driving an Army Green car irrespective of the make was grounds for harassment. Isn't that just foolish? The law states that wearing any part of the uniform of an officer (Military or Para-military) is an offence. So technically wearing a black trouser can be taken to be wearing a police uniform. Or wearing a Navy blue trouser taken as wearing part of the uniform of the Air force. Same for White trousers and the Navy. I really hate when these Biafran Agitators refer to Nigeria as a Zoo but when shiit like this is still happening, one can't help but see their point. Simply make impersonation a crime and leave it at that. Anything beyond that is foolishness. 308 Likes 23 Shares |

Like I tell Chrsitians who keep testifying about how "God saved me from death", you didn't die because you are still alive, Period. Don't be focused on death cos it's a fate we all must face, rather focus on living this life you have to its fullest and touch as many people as you can positively before you exit. 5 Likes |
