This is why I said I am a Christian. Theres no scientific proof for what religion explains. So you can choose what you want to believe. Theologians dont agree. Thats true. But his own analysis of the bible is shallow

Technically, you all choose what you want to believe. The Jehovah's witnesses choose to believe that only 144000 persons will make heaven while the rest inherit the earth (And they have biblical proof (for lack of a more fitting word) of this), the Seven day Adventist also choose to believe that Saturday not Sunday is the Sabbath and most of the Jewish laws of Sabbath should still be obeyed today.

So when you say you are Christian, which one of the numerous Christian sect and their diverging beliefs do you follow and what makes you believe you are in the right one cos if what you away about Theism is Right, then only one of you can possibly be doing it correctly thus meaning a lot of believers will be joining the likes of me in hell (which is what really scares me about hell). grin

Speaking of this fellows analysis of the bible being shallow will always be a subjective view because you like him and all other believers don't have any "facts" to back your claims.

Ehen?! And so what?

I am not advocating breaking up Nigeria.. But as long as we still dey run this agbata é kę (what we get, we share) system of Government, no State will have any reason to be serious. A Governor just needs to sit in his house, wait for CBN alert at the end of the month, pay salaries of Civil servants, loot what he can, if change remain ehn find one street tar or one expression to patch. If money no reach e go borrow from foreign banks (Baba a.k.a FG go pay back). Motivation to open up the state and make it business friendly remains zero.

Make all state start to take kia of themselves by themselves.. Lagos go first blow pass even FG, but I promise you say Atleast 15 - 20 states will not be far behind them. The remaining state will go bankrupt and dissolve. Until then, you will keep having things like these not just with courtsl houses but with hospitals, schools, police stations, fire stations, water stations, power stations, e.t.c..

Really thank God for saving us last night, around 2am when I was sewing a dress for my client at home I was hearing some weird noise from outside, and because we live on the outskirts of umuahia it's always quiet and people don't usually go out after 7pm so by around 2am you should expect everyone to be asleep except something really bad happens that might affect everyone ..

That night felt different but I was still able to complete my sewing despite the weird animal noise because we are only used to hearing noise from dogs barking or owls and some night birds that thrive around that area, but not that sort of noise because it sounded like something that is not even from earth, trust me I've heard weird noises but this one is a big exception, I was surprised when I woke up in the morning and I found this dead bat hanging dead on our electric pole...

I still have a very strong feeling that this bat was sent, because where I am from people do bad things to their own relations which our family is not an exception, what are your thoughts on this.. Images below

. With the bolded abovr. The person that explained it didnt do a great job. Ask a theologian to explain that part to you. Btw if you believe in jesus. You should know that u re meant to follow his word alone. Its true that there re elements of good in each religion. But you cant combine elements from all religions some may contradict. I see your point it may work from a logical perspective. But as a Christian I dont think so

Ask a Theologian? You realise that this isn't science right? You do know that there are no proofs, facts or logic to religion right? So whatever it is a theologian tells you, would be simply based off of his or her personal interpretations of the texts or scriptures they have studied. And since religion isn't a science, opinions will differ from one theologian to the next.

Anyways, my personal opinion remains religion in and of itself as a concept and ideology makes absolutely no sense whatsoever irrespective of what branch of it a person chooses to follow. It is a concept that feeds off of our fears of the unknown (like the origin of life, death and what next after death).

A lot of the followers of these diverse religions can't even sensibly justify why they follow the religion or even make sense of some of the practices/doctrines they observe or even the whole ideology of the existence of an invincible Supreme Being.

There are no tangible proofs of any supernatural perks to following any religion.. Same things that happen to Atheists, happens to theists. If either gets bitten by a venomous snake, they both have equal chances of survival. Near misses happen to both sets of people. So the only allegedly real benefit to being a believer is one that can't be proven or even seen until one dies which is a utopian afterlife. Meanwhile for you to benefit from this afterlife utopia program, you will have to make a lot of sacrifices in this here life and some of these sacrifices are pretty extreme and many of them downright ridiculous but all are ultimately costly financially and time wise. grin grin

Like Okunrinmeta summarised in his post, if he leads a good life and still finds himself in hell, he will have a lot of neighbours and on that point, we both agree. The only difference between the both of us (Okun and i) is that whereas he chooses to follow/believe/adhere to the things which all religions agree on (my guess will be the existence of a God), I outrightly choose not to believe in an unprovable and illogical ideology which is religion and all its beliefs.

If there is a hell, then that's where I am heading.. But I will live this here life I have got the best I can and for all its got to offer.

KevinDein:
“Collapsing any Nation does not require use of Atomic bombs or the use of Long range missiles. But it requires lowering the quality of Education and allowing cheating in the exams by the students”

Truer words have never been spoken.

This education problem has been a long time coming. It started with the cloudy policies on basic education funding and system.

A universal education system where the standards were not universal only spelt doom. By the time the kids from the various states public junior and senior schools come to write the supposedly standardised tests (common entrance and SSCE), you see that some kids just never got a fighting chance. So to remedy it, federal character got involved. Kids from certain parts were given special low cut off marks to gain admission into higher schools (Federal Secondary schools and Universities).. Then as if messing up the junior level schools did not suffice, they messed up the higher institutions of learning. They politicised it and made recruitment of lecturers and professors into a tribal and ethinic issue. Then government subsidised the tuition of all universities without actually providing the funds necessary to keep them running optimally and financing researches. Some Governors even made their universities free just to score political points. So now you have kids that should not have even passed Common entrance snaking their way through junior and senior WAEC all the way into university and being taught by lecturers who are either not qualified or not interested or motivated all because the system has been destroyed by senseless policies driven more by selfish political interests rather than long term goals and achievements.. So the product is garbage in, garbage out.

Now we are caught up in nonsense debates ranging from making BScs (Degrees) and HNDs (Diplomas) educationally equivalent.

A clear sign that something is wrong with our system of education should be that we currently run 3 different SSCE tests (WAEC, NECO and GCE) and 2 JAMBs all just to get into a university. Meanwhile our ECOWAS counterparts only run the regional approved standardised test known as WAEC and still base their admissions on total credit score. The reason being that many Nigerian students can't pass the regional standardised tests.

Now this transfers itself to our larger society. So we now have graduates who can't speak proper English despite the fact that their entire academic life they were taught in the English language (cue Dame Patience Jonathan with multiple degrees from three institutions of higher learning in Nigeria including a state and federal university) and also graduates who can't read not write an essay (which is a standard requirement in almost all levels of standardised tests in Nigeria starting from common entrance level). Then to remedy the situation yet again, the Government employs these unqualified and poorly schooled graduates into the civil service which translate into massive inefficiency in government.

So in Nigeria today, to give your Child a fair chance at education, one must be ready to pay an arm and a leg in private education.

Religion / Re: What You Must Know Before You Die by MadCow1: 8:36am On Sep 17, 2017
bigfrancis21:
1. What we have in common in all religions and empiricism to-day is that the afterlife exists. But not one religion tells us what actually happens when we physically die - empirical studies do. In the West the Christian view of the afterlife dominated for nearly two thousand years. The Church teaches that the afterlife exists and that your conduct on earth will determine what kind of existence you will experience once you cross over; you will go to 'heaven' if you 'behaved well' or to hell if you consistently misbehaved. The Catholics add 'purgatory'- a stage of continuous purification before one gets to 'heaven.' Empiricism tells us there is an afterlife and explains in detail what happens when we cross over. This means that empirical evidence is what we should study so that we get to know specifically what is going to happen to us when we cross over.

2. What has been empirically confirmed by way of mediumship is that we have a duplicate of our physical body. On crossing over, the physical body dies, and like an old coat can be burnt. But at the time of physical death, our real self, i.e. our duplicate body will emerge from the physically dead body with full consciousness. The duplicate body, the 'spirit' body, the real you, will continue to have a human form and will be able to see those around your dead physical body. We will take three things with us on crossing over: our mind with all its memories, our new spiritual body and our character which will not change one iota on crossing over. Those who have been in pain for a time before their death may not experience 'conscious transition' to the afterlife. They will be given very special care - but after a time of rest, they will regain full consciousness.

3. Moments after you will cross over you will be met by someone who had already passed on and with whom you have a heart to heart connection. Someone you can trust, someone who is most certain to be a loved one, someone you can feel most comfortable with. This meeting is meant to make your transition as smooth as you will allow it to be. We are informed that many times average decent folk, especially those who have been 'spiritual' (not necessarily 'religious' - see below) when on earth, will experience a smooth, conscious transition. Only our own limitations, our own prejudices, our own encumbrances will restrict the otherwise smooth transition. For these reasons at the time of crossing over we should always have an open mind and NOT have the mind rigidly set on some expectations taught by uninformed dogmatists on earth.

4. At this time you will remember all experiences you had when you visited the afterlife. We are credibly informed that during sleep we experience out-of-body experiences. For the average decent open minded person, the transition ought to be a most wonderful spiritual experience. There is NOTHING to fear, NOTHING to be terrified about and certainly EVERYTHING for you to look forward to. Why? Because information transmitted from the otherside consistently tells us that for the average decent folk there will be much beauty, much peace, much light and love. In fact, we are told by some of the highest credible sources including Silver Birch, that we do not have the vocabulary to describe the enormous beauty, peace and love we will be experiencing once we cross over.

5. When we cross over we will still have free will which is critical to our continuous refinement. We will still be in a position to continue to refine in mind, 'body' and spirit. We will still have the potential to raise our 'vibrations' of the soul to graduate to a higher realm where there will be higher levels of ecstatic experiences far more intense than the one we initially entered. The afterlife is divided into different realms (afterlife worlds)- from the lowest darkest vibrating realm to the highest. We are credibly informed that the average decent person will go to the 'third level.' There will be venues of all kinds of learning. Artists will be able to continue to refine their skills to create enormous inspired beauty. Musicians will be able to perfect their skills and refine their creativity with added inspiration to produce the most heavenly music. Whoever you are, whatever you desire, you will have specialists who will assist in your endeavor to perfect your skills. We will have opportunities to continue to follow the dreams we had on earth and have other opportunities do creative and other things that perhaps we were not able to do on earth. Also we will be enjoying perfect health - the cripple will walk again, the blind will see again, those with any physical or mental problems on earth will be perfectly normal again. The greater and the lesser will be judged ONLY by the level of spirituality (level of vibrations at the time of crossing over) which will be indicated by the brightness of one's own aura which surrounds the body. But one thing is certain, we will find ourselves in a most friendly environment where we will be able to continue to refine with much grace and inspiration - even if it takes eons of earth's time to reach our goal - the highest spirituality. We have an eternity to continue to improve, to progress, to refine in mind and spirit.

6. There is some concern by a number of people about the 'lower' realms. Let's clarify this. As stated at the time of the crossing people will have the accumulated "vibrations" from their lifetime on earth. The level of vibrations of average decent people will usually qualify them to go to the 'third realm' described above. But there will be some others who will NOT automatically end up in the third realm.

First, there will be some who get stuck for an indefinite period of time between the earth plane and the third realm - this will be a most serious problem. These may be hard core skeptics and others who had rigid, inflexible negative beliefs and who obstinately refused to believe that the afterlife exists. When these closed minded skeptics and debunkers of the afterlife find themselves in the afterlife they will refuse to believe they are 'dead' because they will still have a body (the duplicate of the body they had on earth- they will be able to see, hear and feel things- everything will be just as solid as on earth.). But they will know that something is very seriously different - when they try to talk to people on earth, no one responds to them because people on earth generally cannot see them, cannot hear them, cannot detect their presence. This refusal to believe that they have crossed over will cause confusion in their mind and this confusion could last for more than a thousand years by earth's time - even thousands of years. It is only when they admit they were wrong that they will be able to progress. That is why the state of mind at the time of crossing over ought NOT be rigid. The afterlife consequences are ENORMOUS and we must find the time to learn more about the afterlife. It will be critical to keep an open mind and to allow for the unexpected - especially for those whose environment was dogmatic about what to expect and what NOT to expect in the afterlife.

Secondly, the minority of people who were deliberately cruel, willfully evil, and knowingly selfish would have lower vibrations compared to the average decent person. Those with the lowest vibrations will find themselves in the lowest vibrational afterlife realm where conditions are horrendous. Information transmitted from the otherside tells us in crystal clear terms that this lowest vibrational realm is so horrible we do not have the vocabulary to describe the heinous conditions. Some from the otherside - such as Hugh Benson in the Anthony Borgia afterlife books, have tried but the description was limited because our vocabulary is restricted. He said words to the effect this lowest realm is dark, very cold, putrid in the extreme and inhabited by horrible entities who deliberately give each other horrible experiences.

But NOBODY sends people to this realm. It's all governed by the law of physics- the law of attraction -like level of vibrations attracts like level of vibrations. And if someone from the earthplane crosses over with extremely low vibrations (lowest spirituality), he/she will automatically be attracted to the lowest vibrating realm which can accommodate his/her level of vibrations. No one with lowest vibrations is able to inhabit the higher vibrational realms.

7. The Law of Cause and Effect also becomes operational. 'You reap what you sow' is a most powerful inevitable law. No one escapes this law; no one can erase the law of retribution. But there is also the Law of Progress which means that even if it takes eaons of time - thousands of years in earth's time, all those who crossed over to the afterlife and who send themselves in the lowest realms will at one time or another come back to the light of the higher realms.

8. How can we raise the level of our vibrations to maximize the afterlife on crossing over and have a smooth transition? Highly credible transmitted information tells us that 'service' - unselfishly helping others who are in genuine need is the most powerful, guaranteed way of raising your vibrations - raising your spirituality. Note very carefully: you do NOT have to be religious at all to raise your vibrations, i.e. to become more spiritual. As a matter of fact there are those who are atheists, agnostics and certainly non-religious who by conduct and example are very 'spiritual.' So that although religious people may be spiritual some 'religious' people may NOT be so spiritual. Being religious does not automatically mean being spiritual. Religious beliefs are irrelevant to having higher vibrations. It is not what we believe but what we DO on this planet earth that will definitively determine what is going to happen to us when we inevitably cross over.

9. Death-bed repentance. Whether we are aware of it or not, the universal Law of Cause and Effect operates all the time and no one on earth has the power to suspend its operation. If we willfully said or did something that hurt and injured others, only those injured will have the power to forgive us. And the burden will be carried into the afterlife until there is forgiveness. There cannot be further refinement or progress until we are forgiven either on this earth or in the afterlife. It is fundamentally wrong to believe that confessing your 'sins' to a priest will completely free you from all guilt, from all negative consequences when you cross over. It is far better to seek out the person and make amends while you are still alive. There have been innumerable experiences of people who crossed over seeking forgiveness from people who still reside on the physical earth-plane. This is because there cannot be individual progress in the afterlife until all is forgiven.

10. Mind is king in the afterlife dimension. We on earth do not really know how powerful the mind will be when we cross over. Transmitted information from the highly credible sources reminds us that the afterlife is governed by the 'mind'. In afterlife travel for example, we only have to think of a place anywhere to go - any place on earth or in the afterlife and we get there instantly by the power of the mind.

11. Suicide: those who intentionally cut short their lives by committing suicide will have the extra burden of assisting those who were negatively affected by their suicide. Of course, motivation is always the key. If one commits suicide to avoid responsibilities - inevitably those responsibilities will sometime in the future come back again to be dealt with. If one commits suicide to avoid intense pain where death is absolute - that would be a different matter. Each suicide will be dealt with according to motivation.

12. Love we are informed is 'the most powerful force in the universe.' Just because we cross over does not mean love is lost or is terminated. Love survives physical death and true love will mean you will never be separated from your loved ones. True unconditional love will usually mean unconditional forgiveness. This will lead to a higher level of vibrations, of spirituality and will be instrumental in graduating to higher afterlife realms where conditions are too beautiful for us on earth to imagine - something to look forward to being there.

13. CRITICAL: if when crossing over you see powerful light - GO TOWARDS THE LIGHT- but usually the LIGHT comes towards you if you are destined to proceed to the next stage of your spiritual development - to a higher realm. One member of my own family moments before dying stated she was seeing powerful LIGHT. She said, "Where is this light coming from?" Then she passed on calmly and peacefully.

Too funny.. grin

Here are 10 Good reasons not to Go to Church..

1. Tomorrow is Monday and you should try and get enough relaxation nd rest today in preparation for a new week.

2. Whatever it is the Pastor has to preach today, you have heard it more than 100 times already.

3. Even the Bible said God rested.

4. Arsenal vs. Chelsea (Derby)

5. If you start saving all the money you have been giving to Pastors in the name of tithe and offerings in a savings account since you were a kid, by now you would have a lot of money.

6. You already know you will be back to sinning before 6pm tonight so why bother.

7. Going to Church is not a condition for making heaven just a waste of your time and finances.

8. Are you not too old to still be believing that singing, clapping and putting your money in a basket is what makes an imaginary guy in the sky reward you or bless You?

9. If you don't go to Church today, the only person that will be affected is the Pastor and his account balance.

10. Read 1 - 9 again.

DEUTRONOMY 13; 18 - 21

18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” 21 Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.

Religion / Re: Demands For Money And Other Things By Worshippers In My Local Church by MadCow1: 11:38pm On Sep 14, 2017
kennybabs1980:
I started pastoring a small parish of a big Pentecostal church in Akure in 2012. We used to meet in a small location in a housing estate until 2015 when we relocated to our permanent site, a location that's about 10km farther than our former site.

Most of the worshippers in the former location refused to relocate when we moved because of the distance and associated stress. That means we have to start the parish all over again. So we have been having very low attendance which has been improving since about 4 months now.

The new site is a new community occupied mainly by people who have just moved to their personal houses. More than 60% of the plots remained undeveloped for now.

One major issue here is the rate at which most people that attend the parish sees the church as a place where their needs must be met. They keep coming up with one demand or the other every week. Their demands include food, money and now that school is about to resume, school fees and books. Parents will teach their little children to go and tell stories of how they can't resume at school since they don't have school fees and books, elderly people even come around to ask for money and food, this situation is becoming very disturbing and worrisome.

How can people see a very small church of less than 40 (90% children) in attendance as a source of supply of all their needs? Our parent church don't get involved in funding the small parish, we are the one who returns our tithes and offerings to the national headquarters every month. Offering in the church is small, adults come around to put N10 or N20 in offering bag and later send their children to go and ask for N10k assistance, I got pissed off this evening when a small girl who attends a public secondary school came around to ask for school fees of N10k and books of N10k for herself and same for her 2 siblings making a total of N30k. We bought exercise books and gave 4 to each pupil just last Sunday with pencils and biros and between then and now, they have bombarded the church with demands of well over N100k. Where do they really want the church to meet their demands? The church is operating under a temporary shed we put up in 2015, we've not been able to continue with serious building project due to paucity of funds. We (I, my wife, my assistant and his wife) have been trying in the areas of giving out food items, money, drugs, clothes etc to these people yet its one demand or the other on a daily basis.
I see these attitude as unwholesome, disturbing and unfair.

I need serious suggestions on how to really handle this situation as it is already dampening my morale. Matured and spiritual suggestions welcomed, thanks.

I wonder if you also feel this upset when you take money from them (multiple times) every week. When you make promises based on faith that their standard of life will improve if they sow a seed and yet never follow up to find out of your promises to them were ever fulfilled.

I quite frankly don't see the purpose a church serves (mosques and other religious institutions included). All you do is sell false hope based on nothing. If these people are coming to you for help maybe that's because the hope you sold them did not pan out.

No disrespect intended Mr. Pastor Sir but maybe you should pray to God to send down manna from heaven cos the people are hungry.
