I’m going to start big picture here and work backwards. 1. At the end of every year, reflect on what goals you accomplished, what goals you fell short on, and what goals you want to set for the next year. 2. At the end of every month, reflect on what goals you accomplished, what goals you fell short on, and what goals you want to set for the next month. 3. At the end of every week, reflect on what goals you accomplished, what goals you fell short on, and what goals you want to set for the next week. 4. Every night before bed, write down what you have to do tomorrow that will get you closer to your goals for the week. 5. Divide your day up based on your productivity patterns. For example, I know that between 1-3 pm I tend to have the most trouble focusing. Same with 5-7ish. So I choose to do my hardest tasks in the morning, late afternoon, and at night. 6. Remove distractions when you’re doing your work, and do not try to multitask. If for 1 hour you’re going to work on X, then only work on X. Nothing else, unless absolutely necessary. 7. Delegate what you can. There’s no dignity in doing everything yourself. Use other people as resources. 8. Don’t recreate the wheel. If you have already written copy for this somewhere else, reuse it. If you’ve already created a similar graphic for an old project, try to repurpose it instead of starting from scratch. These little decisions save big time. 9. Slow down to speed up. I’ll use an egg analogy here. You save more time by carefully placing the egg in the garbage can than throwing it from across the kitchen and hoping it’ll go in, and if not, now wasting five minutes wiping it off the floor. 10. Positive thoughts. Work gets done faster when you aren’t fighting yourself in the process. Source: http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/some-key-ways-to-work-smarter-not-harder/ |

It has been over a year now since a serious beef was witnessed in the Nigerian Music Industry, probably the dust-up between rappers, Vector and Reminisce. Since then it has just been a quiet workplace with everyone going about his business, no attacks, no counter attacks, no spreading of dirty linen in the public. We miss the high tension and intense pressure of the Choc Boys versus Kelly Hansome days that bore hit songs like Beef, Somebody Wants To Die, the era of Mo’ Hits against the usual culprit, Mr Kelly Hansome that led to the release of Who Born The Maga, Igwe and some other hit songs to the delight of music lovers. One cannot leave out the scripts of 9ice-Rugged man, Sinzu and friend-turn-foe, Godwon from the list of beefs that Nigerians would not lose to memory, one song replied another song, one interview shut another up and the fans enjoyed it. When the face-off between two of the top label heads in the Nigerian music industry, Olamide and Don Jazzy of YBNL and Mavin records respectively, at the 2015 Hip-Hop World awards happened, most minds predicted a looming beef. Before now, occurrences not as weighty as this have resulted in months and even years of musical attacks, this idea got the appetite of fans across the country wet, not only because it is Don Jazzy versus Olamide (Badoo), but because it demonstrates the rich vein of competition that exists in the industry. The era where award winners are pre-determined is shading away; everyone on the nominee’s list is a musical crackerjack with formidable claim to the prize and it would have been dicey to point out a winner before the official announcement. Upon the release of the list of nominees, fans started to speak in different tongues, even the nominees dropped sweat, testifying to the level of competitiveness of the awards. The differences in views were expected but certainly not the confrontation between the two music dabs.Their disagreement on the deserved winner of the highly coveted Next Rated Award which was presented to Reekado Bankz of Mavin Record by the organizers would have been last thought by a neutral. The Next Rated category of the Hip Hop World awards, popularly called Headies, has always been the cynosure of the awards, not only because of the succulents of the award but also because it is believed that the winner of the award would go on to become the next superstar like Omawunmi, Wande Coal, Wizkid and Davido all did. So, Olamide and Don Jazzy expressing their different views on the merit of their proteges, is justifiable. Fairly, the category of Next Rated at the 2015 Headies was invulnerable and selecting a winner, between Reekado Bankz, Kiss Daniel, Korede Bello, Cynthia Morgan and Lil’ Kesh was always going to be a nervy process owing to the fact that they all had a fantastic music year. While receiving the award, the Mavin records artiste, Reekado called Lil Kesh to the stage; he admitted that the YBNL artiste and other nominees in the category made the competition a perspiring one. The award which was decided by the vote of fans could have favored Reekado Bankz because of Don Jazzy’s social media specialty. The Mavin boss uses his social media proficiency with effectiveness, as he did so with canvassing for Reekado in the race to win the Next Rated Award. Reekado’s magnanimity, the Don Jazzy influence however, did not deter Olamide, Badoo from expressing his irritation, as he voiced his dissatisfaction about Lil Kesh being snubbed for the award. He claimed Lil Kesh deserved the award, mentioning Kesh’s hit songs Shoki, Gbese, Efejoku as argument points. Badoo demonstrated his heresy in a tantrum-like manner and it was clear that he was incensed judging by the way he smashed the microphone before leaving the rostrum. This action by Olamide was attacked directly by Mavin boss, Don Jazzy, who used the same stage to respond, clearly in defence of his mentee. At that point, the pot was steamed to cook a beef between arguably two of the best music label heads in Nigeria. The media in its habitual manner was quick to pick up the clash and tried to spice it up, pictures and videos relating to the incidence started to trend. Olamide himself took to twitter to shoot at Don Jazzy calling him all sorts of names. Fans started to anticipate an endless exchange of beef tracks between the two parties, some music lovers went as far as imagining songs with a Looku Looku impact rained upon Eyan Mayweather and his team, and a banging reply from the YBNL quarters as well, bringing to mind the heydays of the music industry. More so, cooking beefs and serving it is a practice that both labels have exceled in, watching them face each other would have been a pleasure, and would have been ensued by a stream of euphonious melodies for music lovers to dance to. Cheerlessly, the beef that most music minds already started imagining its taste, was just to be cooked and not to be served, as some artistes intervened. Both Olamide and Don Jazzy agreed to hatch it out, starving us of a well spiced beef. In fact, the best beef never served. Written by Ibironke Oluwatobi cc: isilove, lalasticala |
Chocolate City is one of the leading record labels in Nigeria. It has 13 artists currently signed to the music group and recently, Winifred Ononikpo caught up with one of the new kids signed to the label, DICE AILES for an interview where he covered answers to questions about his Chocolate City signing, music career, schooling and of course, his relationship status. Enjoy. Please tell us a little about yourself. Dice: My name is Dice Ailes aka Mr. Miyagi, my real name is Shasha Damilola Alesh. My mom is Ghanaian while my dad is Nigerian. I’m based in Canada Toronto; I’m a student of New York University currently in my final year and I’m signed to Chocolate City as an artist. Tell us about your music background; how it all started and when you realized you wanted to be one of the big shots in the industry. Dice: I’ve always done music all my life. I know it’s pretty much cliché, everyone says that; but at the age of 8 or 9 I started writing poems and I had uncles were songwriters at that time and I just wanted to be part of what they were doing. I found it quite fascinating how they could, make up melodies and lyrics and all that stuff and I just wanted to do what they were doing. That’s how it all started for me. The passion for music just grew and so, there was never a point I decided to do music; I’ve just always been involved with music. So it’s kind of innate; you were almost born with it. Dice: Yeah, pretty much. What genre of music do you specialize in? Dice: I’m a pretty versatile artist. I don’t have a specific genre. I started off rapping, then as I grew up it sort of just graduated to a lot of different stuff. So right now, I just do Afro-pop, RnB; you know what I’m saying, I just mix everything up. How did you land your Chocolate City signing? Dice: I came to Nigeria from Canada in 2013 to push a song called YEMISI and just to familiarize myself with the industry and meet people here. While I was here, somehow I got to meet with M.I through a mutual friend; his name is Frank De Nero. So he was coming over to M.I’s house to record a song and I just tagged along. When we got there we played M.I some of my songs and he was like “damn I think he can make it big”. Then the next day we had a meeting with Audu Maikori and that’s how it all started. So far, what has the experience been like? Dice: It’s been great. When I was younger I used to listen to the Choc Boys; M.I, Ice Prince and all of them. So it just feels good to be one of them now and have people call me a “Choc Boy” (smiles). That must feel really good. Dice: (Laughs) Earlier you said you’re in your final year at NYU. Did you put school on hold to pursue your music career? Dice: Yeah, I actually had to do that. I was trying to finish online but it was so much of a task for me because I was too busy doing interviews, performing and all that stuff. So it was taking all the time I needed for school. So you kind of deferred for now? Dice: Yeah, but I’m finishing this year though. Okay, how did your parents react to the decision to take a break from school? Were they supportive? Dice: My mom used to be in a choir so she loves music, my dad loves music too. At the time I decided to defer they were quite supportive and then at some point, they’ll flipped on me and asked me to come back to Canada… but for the most part they’ve been really supportive. So your parents and whole family are based in Canada? Dice: Yeah, the whole family is in Canada. So you didn’t have that whole trouble of Nigerian parents with Nigerian mentality of finish school first? Dice: Naah, my dad is very Nigerian. My mom is Ghanaian but she grew up in Nigeria too so they’re African. They have that African mentality. I know, but did they bug you? Nigerian parents can be very deep. Dice: Well my dad wants me to finish school, my mom too; they want me to finish. But I’m doing well in my academics, it’s not like I’m failing or anything. I have about 3 courses to go so they’re like school can wait for a little bit, do what you gotta do. Oh okay. What are you studying in school? Dice: Health and Society. I am doing that as a pre-med to go into Med School. Are you still going to med school? Dice: Um, hopefully. So now music is distracting you from going to med school? Dice: Not really. I mean, music is medicine for the soul, so I’m still practicing medicine to heal… (general laughter) to heal the soul. Seeing how young you are, will you in any way ever consider yourself an over-achiever? Dice: An over-achiever? No, like I’m hardly ever comfortable with the things that I achieve. I feel like I’ve not achieved enough, even with everything I have achieved. So whether I’m young or not, I know people have done more things than I have at my age. I won’t lie to you, you look better in person than your Instagram pictures. Dice: Oh really? Yeah, it just popped into my head. So how do you handle attention from female fans, admirers and all? Dice: (Laughs) You know, shortly before you came in someone was gisting me about how you went somewhere for an interview and one of the junior writers had a mad crush on you and she could not even stay in the room. She was all smiles and bashful. So how do you handle situations like that? You know when people are screaming and excited like “Dice, oh my God!!” Dice: (Laughs) I mean, I’m receptive towards it. It just shows me I’m doing something good and I embrace it. That’s a sign of appreciation. I’m not talking about your music now. I’m talking about your face. Dice: (Laughs) Oh it’s about my face now? Oh mehn, I don’t know mehn, I’m just thankful to my mom and dad for giving me this face (laughs some more). Shout out to the females though, I just love them. Okay we appreciate it. So are you dropping an album soon? Dice: For now we’re just dropping singles. Are you compiling an album? Dice: I have enough songs for like 10 albums already. So what are you waiting for? Dice: There has to be a high demand for the album. So far I’ve been focusing on school but now I’m here trying to push the music. Alright. So did you hear about the “seize the bae” movement in 2015? It was kind of a Twitter buzz. You use Twitter yeah? Dice: I’m not big on Twitter but naah, never heard about it. I’m not big on Twitter either but I knew about it. Dice: Really? Nah, that means I’m worse. Okay it was basically use any means (Twitter DM mainly) to reach out to someone and tell them you like them. Dice: Oh really? Is it still going on? Yeah, I think so. They brought it to 2016. It was kind of a thing then. So you didn’t hear about it? Dice: Naah, but what if I had heard about it? I would have asked if you successfully seized any bae. Dice: To dive into people’s DMs… Not necessarily dive but to just start a friendship that will lead to a relationship. Dice: these days, I can’t even dive into people’s DMs no more because last time I tried it, she tweeted that I just messaged her. Like twice now so I think I’m done with trying to dive into DMs (laughs). So are you in a relationship? Dice: No I’m not actually. Why? Dice: The girls think I’m not good looking enough. Really? I don’t think so. That’s not what I heard. Dice: (Laughs) No, I mean, that’s not my major priority right now. I feel like relationships require so much time, like so much devotion, sacrifices; and music is jealous as well. So that’s two things that cannot share. I’ll get there but not right now. Award wise, how was 2015 for you? Did you bag any? Dice: In 2015, I won Best Male Artist at the African Entertainment Awards in Canada, then I won Most Fashionable Fast Rising Music Artist at the Lagos Fashion Award. (Rhetorically) And then what else? What else did I win? So much, you can’t even remember? Dice: No, no it’s just 2 or 3. But I got some nominations that I didn’t win. Congrats, it shows you’re being recognized. Dice: Yes, yes. I know you have a couple of tracks; Odun De, Telephone etc. But the spotlight is on your latest single, MACHINERY as well as the instructional video for the dance. Any update on when the official video will be released? Dice: The video for Machinery has been shot already and should be dropping towards the end of the month but I don’t have a specific date right now. How about future projects? Is there any imminent one you’re working on? Dice: I have a song with Iyanya coming out soon; it’s for the ladies. It drops February 14th and it’s a remix to an old record by me called Fantasy. Now that certainly is one reason to look forward to Valentine’s Day this year (general laughter) http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/dice-a/ isilove

hatux:CDQ got recognition this year, he is yet to break even. Compared to the listed ones, CDQ doesnt stand close enough to sell out an event. Also he is relatively unknown outside Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta |
silverdam:Naaa. Yemi didn't break out this year. She actually did enjoy the work she had done before now. Yemi is already an established act compared to the ones mentioned here. |
horexy:Falz didn't break out this year, he already had an album before this year. Clearly he didnt break out this year rather he got improved |
The NIGERIAN Music industry is like a tertiary institution; with each new ‘semester’ we have new ‘students’ but in this case artistes and their managements alike. Like every school, there are guidelines and scheme of works one has to scale through to be a certified A-list act with a reputable portfolio worthy of our attention and time. This year saw the rise and rise of new names and some a bit old but ever so eagerly reappearing on our fave top 10 lists and headlining the most shows. Undoubtedly in my own opinion which I think should be the opinion of all music thinkers alike, Yemi Alade is hands down the biggest act of 2015, I will go on to defend this only because it is an article and should be well scripted; she headlined a successful international tour and her rise has been steady and professional, putting forth singles, videos, endorsement deals, international deals and the likes. Not like her colleagues that count social media milestones as a success worthy of accolades and reputable claim, this songstress and her team indeed put in substantial work to her brand and we have also noted a couple new faces that might be wise enough to thread in her footsteps. Below is a compilation of some of the break outs for 2015. First of all, the brand is called 24. The company name is 24 Apparel Limited, but the brand name is 24; just 24. Now that we have that out of the way, Temitayo Eyitayo the CEO of this high flying merchandise talks to Behind Magazine about his 24 brand which is visible on most Nigeria musical videos… http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/meet-the-man-the-24-apparel-brand/ cc: lalasticala

Being an entertainer in Nigeria is a perilous fit, only few know how to steer the wagon and make something genuine from it. Some of them do not have much branding and quality, like you randomly type in a certain ‘A List’ act into your favorite search engine and nothing concrete or resourceful comes up. Just photos of them at this and that event; woo to them. For a DJ to have a website that is so informative and easily accessible is rare. Even at that, his brand is well put together with a team that actually gets back to you when you place calls across for interviews. Born Sodamola Oluseye Desmond but globally known as DJ SPINALL AKA TheCAP. His signatory fila which can be seen on him at all times make him an easy spot at every event or gathering. SPINALL started his djing craft professionally in 2005 and so far has perfected his skills to an amazing level where he works with all sorts of equipment; his love for the Technics is insane though he also uses CDs and his newly acquired SZ. His name is a full definition of his abilities: SPIN-ALL. DJ SPINALL studied Electrical Electronics Engineering at the University and then went ahead to get DJ lessons while also practicing with online tutorials & self-rehearsals to keep him upgraded at all times. He is a proud member of the coalition of Nigerian DJs worldwide also known as NDJs. With experiences lasting close to a decade in the industry, the Unstoppable DJ SPINALL has worked as a DJ on Ray Power and Eko FM Lagos and endless Club DJing experiences in the United States Of America, United Kingdom, Dubai, Italy, South Africa, Ghana, South Africa & of course across major cities in Nigeria. DJ SPINALL feats are one to be envied by his colleagues; he had a tour tagged “TheCAMPUSTour” where he played for fans across 6 states in the United States including Washington DC, Austin Texas, Houston Texas, Miami Florida & New York City – The first of its kind by an African DJ. He is also the first African DJ to perform at the SXSW Festival in the US. All hail TheCAP. He has been very instrumental to the development of the Nigerian music; some of his mixtapes have crossed beyond the borders of Nigeria therefore exporting Nigerian talents far and wide. Some of his projects and mix tapes can be seen and downloaded on his official website – www.djspinall.com During the interview, he was asked which party has been his favourite of all time and he said; ‘Access Bank All White Party, Eko Hotel… It was off the chains.’ As a mobile DJ you can find him anywhere, depending on where his service is needed; He is the official DJ for Wande Coal and other A-list acts. He is also the official DJ for the weekly Industry Nite which holds every Wednesday. ‘The Cap’ as he is famously called has released 3 singles that is high flying and is being aired till date globally, having featured acts like MI, Burna Boy, Byno and Olamide. He has been appreciated at different awards both in within and outside the shores of Nigeria, some them include: Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2014 – World Best DJ, Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards 2014 – Best Video DJ, Nigeria Islander International Awards 2014 – Best Nigerian DJ. He recently snatched an endorsement deal with Smirnoff Ice making him the second DJ ever in Nigeria to have a brand endorsement; the first being DJ Neptune with MTN. In 2009, a young man with an innate love and passion – music, decided to put out a body of work that contained some songs that displayed his musical prowess and he named it, ‘Shakara’. A way to tell the world; ‘I can sing, rap and I do it all with a sense of humor’. He put it out online for free and the songs got a conscious level of attention, but then like all young upcoming artistes, he had to do more because Nigerians will always have something to say, either in praise or in bash downs. He went on to put forth more singles and visuals to this effect, shuffling between the UK and NIGERIA. Falz had not been fully reconnected to his roots, Nigeria, which was evident in his music and unavailability at shows and the Lagos music scenes. Folarin Falana went further to create a niche for himself in the Nigerian music scene. He describes his music as “what’s up music” – a blend of hip-hop with old school sound and funny lyrics. He created this humorous sound and Yoruba inspired vocabulary that caught on like a wild fire, his easy and conscious lyrical prowess was an added win. Falz came on as a certain Barrister with a mock illiterate façade and he has created this image that cannot be emulated even by the greatest of the greatest. Fast forward to present times, Falz has been having a really good run thus far, with 2 endorsement/ambassadorial deals to add to his high flying resume, new singles that social media has embraced and is constantly patronizing. This barrister is having the time of his life, putting out radio friendly singles and set to put out a sophomore album. Since the release of his debut album, ‘Wazup Guy’ he has accorded a very fair level of success, headlining shows around the country and interviews with credible journals, with his army of Instagram fans attesting to his huge recognition. Falz takes out time in his visuals, depicting his message clearly with a comical edge. With several singles on the waves, his fans and social media users have taken it upon themselves to make numerous comical videos of these singles, showing love in their own way. Falz TheBahdGuy has a very tangible online presence and relevance, traveling from state to state and country to country, his credibility has gone up and his rise is progressing. Falz is not sleeping on his oars, ensuring he stays relevant. With his endorsements with Cheki! and another high flying e- commerce platform, he is DEFINITELY reaping the fruit of his labor. Recently, he concluded a UK tour, the reviews and acceptance were pleasant and as usual social media documented the events. Falz has stayed true to his image and his craft, avoiding us the mediocrity that most times envelopes the music scene, churning out credible hits after hits. As we eagerly await his sophomore album. Folarin Falana has risen from one of the ‘add ons’ in the industry to the headliner, his resume is on a steady rise and gone are the days of being referred to as the son of Femi Falana, renowned and outspoken SAN. He is more than Daddy’s shadow, he is a reputable force in his sector, the entertainment industry has welcomed and is steady elevating Falz in all his glory. Clear to all, Falz has a chest of hit singles after hit singles and as we await his upcoming visual with Reminisce called, ‘Clap’, couple with the new video for his hit single ‘Celebrity Girlfriend’ with Reekado Banks, we expect greater endeavors and accomplishments from this multi talented Barrister. For some, Falz is on the right path; little or no controversy, putting the music first at all times, his team is clearly properly informed and equipped. Falz is taking his music across borders and is DEFINITELY on the edge of greatness. Source: http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/falz-on-the-edge-of-greatness/ cc: lalasticlala

For Adebola Williams popularly known as ‘DEBOLA LAGOS’, he gets it; this 30 year old man is a book of success stories, he has taken the media in Nigeria to another level, breaking grounds via his numerous platforms; Future Awards, YNaija, Red Africa and the likes. DEBOLA LAGOS is a media mogul with a long list of accomplishments and accolades to his name. Sitting in his exquisite office, he tells us about all his ‘babies’ and let’s us in on what it’s like to be young and tenacious… * Work Hard, Play hard. Does that philosophy apply to you as an entrepreneur? I don’t think I play enough; my friends say I’m a party popper. When I was younger I partied till dawn, now I try to only attend networking or industry events which I leave earlier most times or I host close friends at my house, so I’m not yet living the work hard play hard philosophy. * At 25, what plans did you have for your career? For me, it’s always been about impact and value. Since I was 14, I’d always hoped I would be able lead people, impact and change their lives. To do this, I believe you need to be comfortable in life and then be able to think and help others. * At 25, were any of your projects running? RED media is 10yrs old this year so many of our projects were running when I was 25. * What’s the difference between RED media, Ynaija, The Future awards and others? RED Media Africa is the group company. Yproductions produces documentaries, TV shows, events, music etc; its content arm produces Ymagazine, Ynaija, The September Standard and more. RED communications is a PR firm with clients like Guinness, House of Tara and the British Council. We also have music artistes like Vector, Omawumi and Asa under RED Communications. Our PR services are all encompassing as we do creating, marketing, advertising and more. Statecraft is the governance communication arm; we did Buhari’s entire rebranding and presidential campaign. * What is Red media Africa doing for the writing culture of Nigerian youths? We’ve always been about grooming the next generation. We use our platforms such as Ynaija to inspire youths and urge them to contribute articles. Under The Future Enterprise Support Scheme we organize writing, photography and other workshops as well. * What were the biggest obstacles, problems you had in starting Red Media? We’ve always been ready to smash challenges. They say “When life throws lemons at you, you make lemonade” but I make chocolate cake instead and let people wonder how I did that. The main challenge that inspired us to start the Future Awards was that young people were going through a phase where people disrespected them because of their age. So we wanted to cause a generational change for the youth to get the respect they deserve. * If you were a start-up now, with no money, how might you approach launching a business, and do you think the internet has leveled the playing field for young entrepreneurs? An entrepreneur finds a way to get whatever he needs to start a business – money, people or whatever else is needed and the Internet gives us so many opportunities. For the first Future Awards we drove our campaign solely through the internet. * When you come up with a business idea, do you generally know if it’s going to be a winner? What do you listen to first: your gut, your heart, your brain or your accountant? Your gut is very important and you need to trust it. In a difficult situation you need to follow what God says and what your gut tells you. * Out of all the ideas, products and services you have created, if you had your time all over again, and could only choose one to work on, which would it be and why? If I could only pick one I’d choose the media because everything else I do is under the media umbrella. * In your own words, what’s the first rule of business? I don’t think there’s a specific first rule of business, but there are some things you need, your gut, passion, resilience, an entrepreneurial spirit and God. God always comes through. * How does Red Media spot creative people? Red media is like an academy, we train our people a lot to improve their creativity, but you need to have something special before we invest in you. Why did you stop the YMagazine print versions? The challenges of print are a lot, there’s a big distributorship cabal in Nigeria. When you go online, you’re able to track your followers, there’s a higher revenue opportunity, and it’s free among other things. So for now, we’ve turned the print magazine into a special for different occasions. * Are there other partners in Red Media? No, it’s just me and Mr. Chude Jideonwo * On the flip side, what interests you socially? I like to be around people, I’m also adventurous. I like skydiving, kayaking and jet skiing. My last vacation was in 2013 – the company literally sent me on vacation. * Top 5 things you can’t do without? My telephone, internet, bible, fuel and people; I always need people because I think better and solve problems when I’m talking to people. * Do you have any philanthropic involvements/projects? I’m not involved with any charity organization at the moment but I always support people in need who come to me. * Any predictions for Buhari’s presidency? I won’t predict anything but I supported his campaign from the very beginning because I believe he’s out for a cleansing of the nation which is exactly what we need. I believe that due to his age and experience he has less people to want to favour, less reason to condone corruption and the respect of the people and I think he’ll be able to achieve that. * Don’t you think it’s conflicting that Red Media which is primarily focused on the youth handled Buhari’s campaign who is aged 72? I think Buhari to be a leader for the moment. Sometimes we need to made tough choices for the greater good. At this time Nigeria needs a “John the Baptist” to lead us out of our present conundrum and Buhari is the right man for the job. We’re dealing with an older generation of people who have controlled this country for years and we need someone of their age whom they fear. Buhari has a huge fanbase, military respect and strategic alliances Nigeria needs. In 5 years Red Media would have…? In 5 years we’ll be in a number of other African countries. We also have some other plans. source: http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/exclusive-interview-with-adebola-williams-debola-lagos/ |
Source: http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/exclusive-interview-with-adebola-williams-debola-lagos/ |
Often times than not, ladies are already planning their wedding in their head the moment they meet or even before they meet that one special man, on the other hand, guys are usually not thinking in that line. Men are not wired that way, people argue, but a number of factors will contribute to you as a lady earning the right to be his ‘Mrs.’ ultimately. So what are some of the ways to get him to take that next step? There’s no one-size-fits-all formula, but here are a couple: 1. DON’T BRING UP MARRIAGE OR ‘A FUTURE TOGETHER’ TALK PREMATURELY Unless he brings it up in conversation, don’t talk marriage with him, at least not directly. For some guys, it tends to scare them a way sub-consciously. They probably feel it’s too soon for such kind of talk, usually because they believe they are not ready emotionally, psychologically or financially. So ladies should try to be sensitive to the situation of the relationship to know whether to bring up such topic for discuss. There are subtle ways of discussing the topic that may not scare him away. You just have to be tactful about it. 2. GET ALONG ‘STUPIDLY’ WELL WITH HIS GUY FRIENDS This is one of the bankable ways of stealing his heart forever. His guy friends should like you well enough for them to tease him about you as being such a great catch. When you hang out with his friends, they shouldn’t feel like you are a third wheel, so learn to get along with whatever he and his friends are into, even if you don’t like it. Appear cool and his friends will help knock some sense into your guy if he doesn’t take you seriously like he ought to. 3. SHOW HIM YOUR WOMANLY AND MOTHERLY QUALITIES Give him a total home-makeover at his apartment – from cooking him something nice to cleaning, doing the dishes and all that homely stuff. Though I’m not advocating you turning to an overnight or everyday housemaid so he doesn’t get too comfortable for his own good, but do this occasionally, just because it is a noble thing to do and not just because you have an ulterior motif – and if you are the type that hates to cook and clean, then you better make up for it somewhere else, or possibly do the chores together as often as possible. That way, it becomes less of a chore. 4. FOR PETE’S SAKE PLEASE DON’T NAG Yes we know it’s in the nature of most ladies to talk and talk and just keep talking, and end up carrying that trait to nagging over issues. Newsflash! It’s just not cute in any way. For the sake of a possible future together, ladies should try to drop that habit like a slice of very hot potatoes in the mouth. There’s no point revisiting old issues needlessly. Let sleeping dogs lie! Enough said. 5. HIS FAMILY SHOULD ACCEPT AND LOVE YOU This is almost a no-brainer. If his family members get you and are especially fond of you, you are halfway crossed the finished line in the relationship books. So get to be cool with his folks and siblings and be as real as possible. 6. RESPECT AND LOVE HIM HARD Be a sweetheart. Be respectful and thoughtful of him, captivating in thoughts, words and actions towards your man. Don’t stop being that lady he fell uncontrollably for. Always be there for him in good times and bad, in ways unimaginable, surprise him occasionally, be adventurous, keep it sexy for him and let it continually ring in his mind and heart that you are the one he is to eventually say ‘I do’ to. 7. HAVE YOUR OWN IDENTITY, DRIVE AND AMBITION Fewer things turn a man on about a woman who is independent and has a drive and purpose. She is comfortable in her skin as to what she does or wants to do with her life and goes out to make a difference regardless of any man’s wealth. She is her own woman. An independent lady should also respect and support her man’s dreams and help to nurture it by pushing him to be the very best he can be. That is marriage material. What else did I miss ? Let me have your thoughts. |

Recently I had a sit down with a known rapper in this climes and it was quite insightful, as a music lover and a Nigerian, I have come to realize how our artistes have lost the common value of story telling in their lyrics. Most recent musical materials are littered with stories centered around: strip clubs, bad b*tches, drugs and sex. A majority of them if not all always try to recreate such stories via their social media platforms. After an artiste progresses from being upcoming to becoming an A-list, his lyrics change dramatically. From, the inspirational and depth filled lyrics to just hooks and a dope beat and the reason for that is usually unanimous: ‘When I started there was a lot to talk about, I wanted to be successful and great at what I do, I dreamt of acquiring wealth with my music so there was always something to write about, how I struggled or this and that and now I have this and that, so I don’t know. I sing about the life I am living now and it is what it is. I can fly private, I rent out mansions in every city I visit, and the women fall like never before, so it’s a mindset. I live it, so I write about it.’ Which is all well and good, no prejudice to their hustle and hard work, but what they forget is there is no such thing as ‘over achievement’. What one terms as success is just an end to a meet for something greater. So when I hear remarks like we are at the peak of our careers and it’s all drugs, sex and women you can sit and document in a 3 minutes beat. It is sad. We understand as celebrities and stars you have to feed the people’s fantasy and live a life that is sometimes unrealistic but good enough for your ego and Instagram followers. International artistes like Drake, J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar, all in the peak of their careers, with the limelight constantly following them, always have a message in every song they put forth and it goes beyond the shallowness of an alcohol bottle and frivolities of life. In as much as there is the common macho display of excessive wealth and achievement. There is still a lesson to be learnt or bars that would make you evaluate and visit a dictionary. There is still the adequate use of metaphors and poetic rhythms. It goes deeper than women, money and drugs, they take it deeper than the basics. That is why most times when they drop an album or a mixtape, the Internet goes crazy, quoting lyrics and deciphering punchlines. Music is not only about flamboyance and the fame, it is an expression, it is a culture, there is a common trend and it’s art. It is with this concept their music system works In a system like NIGERIA where artistes don’t pay attention to the craft, they just put forth the body of work and work at mundane things to evaluate their credibility. Like wearing the most expensive outfits, going on vacation every now and then and getting expensive automobiles. Majority of our artistes do not infuse any sort of inspiration in their music, there is no value, unfortunately it is no relevance to them, at the end of the day they get the cheques and the most airplay. The few that still take out the time to get a qualified song writer and put in thoughts in their music are being kicked in the butt, with little or no airplay and no elbow room or recognition from bodies in authority. The celebrated musical Taliban, Fela, was one in a million, putting deep thoughts into his music, with lyrics that are older than time. Addressing issues that are relevant and uplifting, not because he wasn’t financially satisfied or at the peak of his success, definitely because he would rather put out music that affects a person’s consciousness. Educating and entertaining Nigerians since 1938. Fela once said: “Music is supposed to have an effect. If you’re playing music and people don’t feel something, you’re not doing shit. That’s what African music is about. When you hear something, you must move. I want to move people to dance, but also to think. Music wants to dictate a better life, against a bad life. When you’re listening to something that depicts having a better life, and you’re not having a better life, it must have an effect on you.” It is not mere luck that the genre he created and gave a sound to is the most popular genre out of Africa, ‘Afro Beat’. 18 years after his death his music is still impacting, and changing mindsets of millions of people and generations unborn. Music is a journey, each performer has a destination and in each individual journey there will be different experiences and lessons learned. We ask that you make yours relevant and worthwhile, make it better for the next performer and the listening audience, infuse hope through your music, yes we expect that certain parts come with the fame, but in the actual sense those parts don’t impact a positive change, so let’s curb the explicit and share hope. Music impacts the world larger than we think, you engage people’s attention and impact their lives, so why not do it the right way? “Stay, he said. I looked down at Josh who had taken hold of my left hand and was regarding me with puppy eyes; the look in his eyes is all the convincing I needed. There was something about his eyes that made me want to drown in them; his irises were unusually large and dark and made me feel like he could see into my soul. He had the type of ears I like to refer to as ‘butterfly ears’; ears I would tease people about suddenly looked attractive to me. He had pink lips and I started imagining what it would feel like to kiss them.” ***** My friends Tsola and Ayo had invited me to a dinner party they were having for their third wedding anniversary. I arrived at the venue, RSVP Restaurant, in Victoria Island at about 6 P.M on a Friday evening, in my new Maki Oh shift dress and a pair of white sandals. My make-up and hair were on fleek. I had taken time to dress especially beautifully for the occasion, and so I was quite disappointed when I showed up and nobody else had arrived. I tried calling Tsola but her number was switched off. I sat alone at the table reserved in Ayo’s name for about fifteen minutes, sipping a cocktail, scrolling through my Instagram feed, and leaving angry texts for Tsola on iMessage. Finally, another guest showed up, a tall lean man who looked like he was in his early thirties. He had on a black jacket with red patterns printed on it which I immediately recognized from the Orange Culture 2014/2015 spring/summer collection, and a well-fitted pair of dark blue jeans. He asked if I was for Tsola and Ayo’s dinner, and then introduced himself as Josh, a friend of Ayo’s. I shook his hand, my palms cold and sweaty; his, soft and warm. “I’m Nancy, but you can call me Nay, everyone calls me that.” “Nay, that’s a nice name. I’m actually Joshua but I hate when people call me that.” I laughed. “Yep, that’s what I’m gonna call you.” He laughed as well, and said, “Don’t you dare.” Just then his phone rang, and he excused himself and walked outside to receive the call. I sat there alone, feeling self-conscious. When after about five minutes he hadn’t returned, I started to get annoyed then I remembered I wasn’t on a date and chided myself. At that moment, he returned with an uncomfortable look on his face and sat down. “What’s wrong?” I asked, “Where’s everybody?” “So I just got off the phone with Ayo and …” His sentence trailed off as he laughed awkwardly. “And what?” I asked impatiently, a hint of annoyance in my voice. “They aren’t coming” he said, “Well apparently they set us up on a date.” “Fucking hell,” I muttered under my breath, and picked up my phone. “I’ve warned Tsola against these her foolish pranks.” I sighed and dropped my phone, looked up and caught Josh staring at me with an amused look on his face. I covered my face with my hands for a few seconds, careful not to ruin my makeup, “This is so embarrassing.” Standing up, I picked up my purse and said, “I’m just going to go home now.” It was in this moment that Josh looked up at me with a pleading expression on his face, took my left hand in his, and said, “Stay.” I sat down. “Listen … I really do not want to be on a date right now, nothing personal,” I said. “Of course,” he replied quickly, “It’s not a date; it’s just hanging out here, together.” I sighed, and mouthed a silent “Okay” “Sooooo …,” I said, looking around the room and then back at him. Transfer market has been very busy following the activities of several English teams who did visit the market to strengthen their team in a bid to be amongst the contenders for the 2015/2016 Premier League title. Many top teams have also travelled to different parts of the world for their ‘ritual’ Pre-season tours. Let’s have a look at the Top 5 teams and how they have ‘beefed’ up the squad with the players that were signed and their chances for winning the league. 1) Chelsea Chelsea was last season champions and will be motivated to defend their title, and no one in football is more of a master tactician and motivator than the special one himself – Jose Mourinho. Chelsea lost Peter Cech to Arsenal, but brought in Asmir Begovic from Stoke city as replacement, Radamel Falcao was also signed on loan from Monaco. 2) Manchester City Manchester City was last season runner up after battling with Chelsea till February, but lost the steam. Man-city has been quite active in the transfer market after the stellar acquisition of Raheem Sterling for £49million from Liverpool, and Fabian Delph from Aston Villa. 3) Arsenal Arsenal are easily the most predictable team in the Premier League, they went a step higher from their traditional 4th spot finishing 3rd last season. Arsene Wenger is eager to go 2 steps higher and try to get the title after a 10-year drought. Arsenal has signed Petr Cech from Chelsea to bolster the goalkeeping position that has always been part of the Achilles heel of the team. Although lots of fans still want a world class striker and a powerful defensive midfielder. We wait to see if Monsieur Wenger can surprise the fans before the window closes. 4) Manchester United Manchester United have not been very active in the market with Manager Louis Van Gaal eager to win the title after promising his wife to retire in 2017. ‘Manyoo’ have bolstered the squad with 2 midfielders, Bastian Scweinsteiger from Bayern Munich and Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, and winger Memphis Depay from PSV. 5) Liverpool What can we say about Liverpool? They are in desperate times; they have spent the most cash and bought the most players. Players signed so far include Christian Benteke, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and James Milner. This has made the squad thicker amidst the departure of their legendary captain Steven Gerrard to the MLS. My Verdict?? Based on the current transfer, I think Manchester City are slight favorites to win the League as Chelsea do not look motivated to win based on their transfer dealings and things are quieter than usual. Arsenal, Manchester United will challenge but do not have the striker to go the mile and Liverpool doesn’t have a solid defense. You are correct Sir. |
Falz came out with distinction in law. He was practicing before he joined music, he sure should have save money for his career. It was later we got to know his father was Fani-Kayode dont forget. |
Yes he is but good thing he doesnt ride on his father's name. He has successfully carved a name for himself |
2015 has been really good to Folarin Falana thus far, with two endorsements deals to add to his high flying resume; new singles that the social media has embraced and is constantly patronizing. Falz is not only a versatile artiste, with the influence of his comical side and ‘len-less’ glasses but a barrister who is having the time of his life, putting out radio friendly singles and setting out for his sophomore album. We hooked up with Falz TheBahdGuy, and he tells us about summer, his career and you would not believe it… LOVE! LOVE There is a common saying that, ‘Fellas know within the first 15 minutes of meeting a woman if there will be a future with her, or if they will marry her.’ I am not sure how this works for the guys, so we ask Falz and he said; ‘I don’t agree, I think we need way more time to be able to tell if there would be a future. You can tell whether you would get along eventually within the first 15 minutes, you could tell if she is smart and your type of woman if the 15minutes involves constant conversation, a flowing conversation. You can tell if she is your type of person, but a future? nah you will need more time.’ As a male celebrity, there must be a level of controversy or alleged relationships, but with Falz it is just his music and humor. Either he is putting in work or cracking up his fans. So we decided to snoop to find out what type of woman interests him. ‘She has to be smart, have a great sense of humor and has to be ambitious. Those are the key things. I’m not too particular about the physical, so long as she’s good looking, I’m good. Overtime I’ve always preferred light skinned ladies, but my horizon has expanded. I’m not limiting myself to dark skins anymore. (Lol)’ In Nigeria, where guys are perceived as unromantic, what are your options for a first date? ‘I would take her to a restaurant, somewhere nice and fancy so we could talk, because we have to talk on the first date. I probably won’t take her to the cinema because we can’t actually talk; we have to watch the movie. So a restaurant, so I can see her face well and have a direct conversation with her.’ If Falz sees a girl he likes very much, how does he approach her? ‘I look around first, to see if she is with anybody because you don’t want to go there and intrude. So if she’s alone and just there I will walk up to her and introduce myself, try to start a conversation.’ SUMMER If you are on social media or you have friends from work, you would notice a common trend at this moment… VACATION, VACATION! Most people are on a beach somewhere, soaking in the sun and basking in its glory, because it is that time of the year. Falz is presently in Lagos, but we ask him a little bit about summer and what his plans are, as an entertainer; Is this is the period of more work or a break to clear and relax the muscles? Picture a beach with lots of sunlight and beautiful women. We asked him his dream location and he said; ‘Definitely Miami! I have heard a lot of nice things about Miami, I have never been there but it sounds like a very exotic and interesting place to go to.’ Miami is synonymous to beautiful women.. Falz is very scandal free, so any outlet to snoop we welcome it. I asked if it had anything to do with the women and he laughed it off in good humor. ‘Well… No not necessarily’. (Lol) The entertainment industry is packed with a bevy of beautiful women, it is also a common trend to get involved with a colleague or have that colleague you admire. Falz had a thing or two to say on this. ‘If I were to take a female celebrity on a vacation this summer it would be Victoria Kimani and I would definitely take her to Barbados.’ Keeping fit is also a huge trend this summer, the sun is out and the birds are singing. Perfect time to be as scantily clad as possible, this is the period you show off months and months of slaving away at the gym or feeling a sense of fulfillment at the money you invested in that celebrity fitness expert. Does Falz have the perfect summer body? ‘We are almost there; we are still working on it. I’m not even going on a vacation this summer, just work, work and more work.’ MUSIC With 2 hot singles on the waves right now, ‘Ello Bae’ and ‘Karishika’. Fans and social media users have taken it upon themselves to make numerous comical videos of these singles, showing their love in their own way. Falz TheBahdGuy has a very tangible online presence and relevance, traveling from state to state and country to country, we ask about the journey so far. Having said all that, it is evident that he must have attained some financial reward so far, right? Well he had this to say: ‘I think that is my business, it is not something to reveal to the world. But I think I have made a decent amount so far.’ A financial plan is something that most artists take very lightly, it is very easy to get caught in the flashing lights, spend unwisely and acquire luxuries you might not need down the line, so we asked Falz about his savings culture. And he said; ‘I think this also is my business, but it is a very good percentage, savings wise.’ He was recently in the UK, where he went on a holiday but his fans there wouldn’t allow it, so he ended up visiting 3 cities to meet with his loyal fans. Organizing impromptu meet and greet sessions… It ended up as a tour! How this all did turn out for Falz? ‘It wasn’t like a proper tour, I set out on a holiday and when I got there, I decided to link up with my fans there and we organized a meet and greet session, while in London. I visited other cities, it wasn’t a proper tour it just felt relevant and warranted. It turned out pretty good.’ With two ambassadorial deals to his name and a sophomore album on the way, this year has been a lot of hard work and replenishment for Falz. He told us a little bit about his Cheki deal; ‘Cheki endorsement is my second deal; it’s a brand ambassadorship, a brand association. I’m an ambassador for the Cheki brand; I am out there representing the brand in every way possible.’ Read more: http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/falz-talks-on-summer-career-and-love/ |
