Investment / How You Can Start Investing As A Student Or Young Adult by magazineguy(m): 9:59am On Mar 06, 2018
If you are a student, a graduate or young adult you might probably belong to the school of thought that “To Invest I Must Be Wealthy or at least have a steady means of income” and while this may seem true because of the risk and how complicated the Financial Market looks like from the outside, it is also very wrong to believe this notion.
You are never too young to invest, just like how depending on your investment choice, no amount is too small to start investing.

So How Do You Start?

The little change from your pocket money, NYSC allowance or business that you do, is worth more than you think.

Develop a Plan

This is a very crucial step, here you should start to determine how much you wish to invest based on how much you have at hand or how much you have saved up and the type of investment method you feel comfortable and the frequency of your investment.

There are some investment plans that require you deposit a one time principal for a duration of time, while you get compounded interest on it over the agreed period of time. While some investment plans require that you deposit a certain amount of money monthly, quarterly, biannually or annually. It all depends on your preference.

Research

Find about the best investment plans that suit the plan you developed earlier. Ask questions from people who are already into investment, go online and search for relevant investment plans, contact financial services company and speak to their advisors about your plan, so they can the best investment suited for you.

Invest in What You Understand

Never ever make the mistake of selecting investment plans or opportunities you do not understand, if not you might end up losing the little money you’ve saved. Ensure you get a very detailed information of how the investment package works and if you do not understand some of the financially fancy terms used, asked for it to be explained in simpler terms. Once you are very sure you understand how it works, you can now proceed to invest.

Monitor Your Investment

It is very important that you keep tabs on your investment. This is to help you know if your investment is performing or not, if some terms have been changed and help you decide if you need to adjust your investment type.

Music/Radio / The Importance Of Music Licensing by magazineguy(m): 12:31pm On Mar 05, 2018
Music licensing commonly refers to ‘royalty free music’ or ‘production music’. This is music that has been written and produced with the sole purpose of being used in another project. Anyone can then license this music for a fee, to use in their project.

What about commercial music?

Commercial music, written and performed by artists like Adele, M83 and U2 for example, cannot be used for any purpose other than personal/private performance. When you buy a CD or download an MP3, it is specifically stated that you cannot do anything with that song or music track except listen to it yourself. Any business use is prohibited, even playing it on the radio to customers at a hair salon.

To play commercial music to the public, a public performance licensed is required by the appropriate performing rights organisation of that country. In the UK it may be PRS or PPL. In the US/Canada, it may be BMI or ASCAP, while here in Nigeria, we have COSON and MCSN. These organisations arrange a fee to the proprietor of the business, based on the size of their business/location. This can be expensive, and time consuming just to play the radio to your customers on your premises, but does permit the business to play the radio to its customers without legal issues.

This is not a suitable solution for video production and filmmaking, as the usage and purpose of music is not the same. As many video production companies produce content for clients, they need background music for their video/film that is cleared for its intended purpose. When licensing commercial music, arranging such a license for online, public performance, in-store and mass distribution quickly becomes expensive and convoluted.

Royalty free music licensing offers a simple and cost effective solution to acquiring well produced music with all necessary rights for the client, within an affordable, transparent license.

Who needs to license music?

Anyone creating digital content with the intention of publishing it online or publically. It’s really that simple. You cannot legally use music you have not written yourself, or licensed from a music library.

What about ‘home movies’ and ‘personal projects’?

The same rules apply to home movies and personal projects, but because these are produced not-for-profit, nor professionally on behalf of a client it is possible to use commercial music in this type of content. However, when this content is published to social platforms like Facebook and YouTube, you may find your video is blocked in certain countries, or deleted entirely. This is because commercial artists and record labels have an agreement in place that monitors use of their content on these platforms, and can enforce accordingly. There is however, many commercial artists and record labels who permit the use of their music in exchange for advertising. An ad will be attached to your content as a pre-roll, overlay or half-time break during the video in exchange for permission to use their music track. If you’re producing something personal, ‘for fun’ then this shouldn’t be an issue.

The risks of using commercial music in professional video

A client may want the latest chart hit in their video because it resonates with their target audience, or they feel it represents their brand. However, as outlined previously this could end up immediately being blocked or deleted with further implications like account suspension. If the video is not blocked or deleted, then it will be served with ads.

This is the last thing you want for your client. You’ve produced a video promoting their new product, and before the video has even started, viewers are being shown ads for competing brands and products. It degrades the potential of the video and the brand.

Health / 5 Essential Oils For Natural Hair And To Reduce Cream Harshness by magazineguy(m): 9:44am On Mar 03, 2018
Hello my lovelies,

Happy weekend to everyone.

So lately, I have being following a lot of natural hair pages on Instagram, getting tips and the right information on natural hair, skin care and general beauty care.

On this post, i will be sharing some amazing essential oils for natural hair, for the skin and also to reduce the harshness of any body lotion or body cream.

Check out @naturalhairloves on Instagram for amazing natural hair goals.

In no particular order;

ALMOND OIL

It moisturizes dry inflamed skin.

It treats dandruff.

It stimulates blood circulation.

ARGAN OIL

It strengthens brittle nails.

It improves cracked heels.

It repairs split ends.

CASTOR OIL

It seals in moisture.

It revitalize dry scalp.

It promotes hair growth.

COCONUT OIL

It moisturizes dry skin.

It penetrates hair shaft.

It protects against signs of aging.

AVOCADO OIL

It rejuvenate and moisturize the scalp.

It is a rich source of protein, amino acid and vitamins.

It soothes the scalp and promote long, strong, healthy hair growth.

TIPS TO REDUCE BODY LOTION OR CREAM HARSHNESS

Most of all these skin lightening creams contains hydroquinone. Studies have also shown that long term hydroquinone use can cause exogenous ochronosis, which is when your skin turns a bluish and black color. Hydroquinone not only inhibits melanin production to help lighten skin, but long term use can actually damage your pigment cells and contact dermatitis and skin irritation.

Oils like Joboba oil, Coconut oil and Almond oil can be mixed with this cream to reduce its harshness, leaving your skin radiant and smooth…

P.S. Ask questions from cosmetologist and make researches when they are mixing your cream…

Career / 5 Sure-fire Ways To Getting Your Voice Heard In Your Workplace As An Introvert. by magazineguy(m): 12:13pm On Mar 02, 2018
Standing out in the Nigerian workplace is paramount. Therefore being too quiet in meetings, brainstorming sessions or contributions can be perceived as a sign of weakness or lack of competency. The bees start to buzz leading to a series of worry and paranoia for you. Your seat at the table starts to be shaken by individuals who feel you are not bringing enough to the table.

Now being introverted in this context doesn’t work much in your favour. Here are my top tips for introverts to standout and get their voices heard in the workplace, securing and owning that seat at the table.

Come in Strong
Introverts are thoughtful, which means they’re good strategists. Instead of leaving your contribution to chance, challenge yourself to put your ideas on the table in the first few minutes, and at a minimum, get your voice in the room.

Ask the right questions

Ask questions that actually contribute to the essence of the meeting and not just a means of getting your voice in the room. Introverts are naturally observant and can use this advantage to ask key questions that move the dialogue further. It helps clarify everyone’s thinking if, in the battle between competing ideas, you can propose a thought-provoking question.

Distil Ideas

As an introvert, the tendency to understand deeper, observe, reflect and listen more, helps to distil the ideas in the room. In a bid to be heard, meeting participants can talk over each other, contradict, or even be in total agreement without realizing it. Become the calm in the storm that helps identify great ideas you feel have been raised and push it forth to the room. Example, “Tunde and Agnes both mentioned in-house shipping. If we are able to have that as part of our arm, we are able to help the client transport safely and also make more money for the organisation. What do you think?”

Be the brave one

Be bold. Be the person who identifies the hard to talk issues, say what needs to be said in meetings. Identify the elephant in the room – directions or points participants are scared to address. If there’s an issue everyone is avoiding, see that as an opportunity. Bringing it up with your signature thoughtfulness can be the perfect way for you to be heard – and make a memorable impression.

Be a problem solver
Finally, one of the very best ways to command respect is to be a problem solver. Do your homework, and come prepared with solutions to vexing problems that the group is struggling with. And make these solutions evidence-based – grounded in research you’ve done or analysis you’ve conducted. People respect good ideas and smart solutions and this can be a great way to show assertiveness in a way that plays to your strengths as a smart, strategic thinker.

Remember, you always have something to say. Most times people who are loud don’t have any concrete ideas or solutions to problems. Don’t be intimidated by loud-mouthed people who like the sound of their voice. That’s why as an introvert you play a vital role in the organisation. Your reflection and assertiveness on topics contribute real, concrete, memorable and impactful ideas to the group.

Literature / A Side Chic Prayer – A Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 8:29pm On Mar 01, 2018
In the moment of pure love, true lust, good affection, pure satisfaction, sacrifices, financial wealth amongst the unconscious heartbreak, sorrow and pain inflicted on others caused by my actions; I seek for true love, joy, peace of mind and happiness. I seek for my own, the one I can call mine without sharing. I know love shall come and I would embrace it with open arms. This I hope and seek for.

***************

I opened my eyes to a smiling face bent over my head. I smiled back and tilt up my face to kiss him.

‘Good morning’ I grinned.

‘Morning, we got to leave soon. I need to go home first before going to the office. My wife has been calling.’

I smiled and kissed him again.

‘You can go. I will take my time and besides I am working offline today.’

‘Oh, that’s great. I will transfer money to your account then.’

I watched as he Bode dressed up.

‘Let me help you with your tie.‘

‘Thanks dear.’

‘You are good to go’ I said and we kissed again.

‘I will call you later in the day.’

***************

I needed some spa treatment and needed new wears. My bank account was already loaded and I ordered for the latest trends in fashion. My gram page is about to be flooded with slay styles. My phone rang.

‘Hello David’, I was calm.

‘Sis, Dad says he needs money oooo. At least for upkeep. Please send him money, no matter how small.’

‘Okay, no problem. I will also send money to mom.’

‘What about me?‘

I smiled. ‘Okay, I will send money to you too.’

‘Thank you big sis. Please also remember about our discussion oooo. I want to come to the city ooo, at least hustle like my mates and start making my money. My friends who left for the city are now buying cars and . . . . .’

‘Okay, okay’ I cut him off. ‘We will discuss about that later. I need to be at work now. You will receive the money soon.’

***************

I went to my beauty store. I had ordered my staff to cut off sales by 10%. We needed customers to boost our sales. I was glad of what I have achieved. I kept calling Bode’s number and got a text few minutes later. He had booked the hotel room and said he would be two hours late. I wondered why because he had never kept me waiting.

Dressed seductively on the bed while waiting for him with some good wine and food, I posed for a picture on my gram; Life is sweet.

‘Were you in a meeting?’ I asked Bode when he finally came.

‘My wife knows I won’t be in a function today. She suspects already I am here and tried to stop me. We argued for hours and she kept cursing. I drove off angrily from home.’

‘Come baby, let me rub your back.‘

‘That would be so much better. I really need it‘ He became relaxed. ‘What would I have done without you?’

I laughed. ‘Absolutely nothing but still you haven’t bought me a new car.‘

‘You would get it tomorrow. I promise.‘

I rubbed his back gently, smoothly till he fell asleep. A peace of mind was what he needed. The next day, my bank account balance was doubled and I was called to pick up my car.

***************

I was chilling in an open lounge eating some good wine and food while waiting for Joseph. We have been flirting with each other, I would not say we were dating because there was obviously no commitment between us. Some times, I wished we were actually dating and travelling places, he had a car, an apartment of his own and a good job. We were just very more than good friends and always had each other’s back.

Someone kissed me from behind on my neck. I turned and smiled.

‘Hey dear’

‘Hmmmmm, your looking good.’

I laughed. ‘And why did you take so long?‘

‘Heavy traffic. Sorry dear‘

‘I have ordered your usual‘ I smiled.

‘Thanks babe‘ He smiled. ‘So how did your day go?‘

‘Went pretty well. Yours?‘

‘Aside from the hectic work load. I’m good.‘

We laughed, chatted happily and enjoyed each other’s company. The night seems cozy and welcoming. I would be spending my night at his place.

***************

I was buying some foodstuffs at the mall, I wanted to cook today since I left the office earlier. I felt a sharp pain at the back of my neck. Someone was pulling my hair so hard that if it was a wig, it would have yanked out.

‘You don’t want to leave my husband alone?. You want to break us apart right? You keep calling and calling him and disturbing us. All these nonsense you are buying now is from my husband money even this stupid hair you fixed, from your shoes to your clothes. Do you have any conscience at all?’

I recognized her immediately from Bode’s phone. I imagined her as a nagging wife and a lousy mouthed woman. I wasn’t going to allow this woman embarrass me in the public. I took a deep breathe as she kept pulling my clothes and alerted the security.

‘Oh, you think you are smart right? Let me see you again and we would see if that face of yours won’t be disfigured by the time I am through with you. Low life cheap home wrecker. Go and find yourself your own man and stop sleeping around with people’s husband.’

I rushed out of the mall immediately. I wouldn’t take this embarrassment again. I wasn’t her problem. Her husband was and she should talk to him but if he keeps coming back to me, then its no fault of mine. I sighed and drove off. I just lost my appetite.

***************

I needed somewhere to go, somewhere to feel comfy and relaxed after what just happened at the mall. I wasn’t thinking and as I drove straight to Joseph’s place. I knocked severally but there was no answer and just as I was about to leave. The door flung opened; Joseph barely clothed with a sleepy eyed chic hanging on to him and kissing him. He was shocked for a second to see me and became calm the next second. I wanted to find my voice. I wanted to say something but I couldn’t. And when I did.

‘I closed from work earlier today and I decided to stop by and say hi. But seems your. . . busy. So later’

I didn’t wait for his response and walked off immediately. I tried to hold back my emotions and remain focus and blank as I drove back home.

***************

I was comfortable on the private plan with Bode. We had planned our vacation for a week at Dubai and I couldn’t wait to flood my gram page. He spoilt me silly, bought me the finest clothes and shoes, we dined at the under water restaurant and took me sailing on a private boat. All he needed from me every night was my pussy.

I came back from Dubai, looking fresh and fly and restocked my beauty shop. But Bode wasn’t fresh and fly as his wife had moved out from their house with the children. It was then I realized she was following me on my gram page with a fake account and was stalking me. She already knew her husband was with me in Dubai.

I decided to play safe. Bode needed some time to sort out things with his family, it was better than making things worse as it was already is. Well, his wife returned two weeks later with the children and I visited Bode again.

***************

I didn’t pick Joseph calls again even when it was clear he didn’t do anything wrong. But I was too emotional to let that incident slide. I mean we had sex. Friends don’t have sex, do they?. I wanted a fresh start, a new start of Love. I know I was going to find. I smiled as I walked towards the table of two, Kayode was smiling at me. I smiled back. I hope I find that, which I am looking for.

Literature / A Lesbian Story (How It Became To Pass) – A Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 11:00am On Feb 10, 2018
I live in a society filled with hypocrisy and pretense. A society that choose to measure morality but lack the morale to measure it; I choose to become me – to say yes to being me. Trailing back with chains and shocks all, I am now smiling at the new me; a new me of acceptance and of love. This is me and this is what I ought to become – A Lesbian Story.

***************

The colourful lights were all over the corners and the speaker was like a boom-boom explosive sound to the latest songs. It was Vicky’s birthday party and we her friends were here to support her. I was giving her all the winks and smiles she deserves. Vicky and I had knew each other since childhood (though her parents never supported our friendship and used any opportunity they had to separate us but we only became closer – she lost her parents years later to a car accident). Vicky wasn’t gay but she supported our likes.

Her man who I was forced to like was here laughing loudly as Vicky was giving him a lap dance. She danced towards me.

‘Don’t you want to dance? Come here.’ She shouted, laughing.

I laughed too. ‘Your man is by the corner.’

‘Really so you don’t want to dance then? It’s fine. Keep looking at me then.’

But she was dancing to me and I drank my liquor, nodding in approval. I think I need a lap dance too. I thought.

***************

Someone was banging on my door. I checked the time it was 5am, I had left the Vicky’s party after she drove off with her man. I was so exhausted and getting up from here was the last thing on my mind.

Another bang!

‘Who is that?‘ I yelled.

‘Mira, it’s me.‘

It took me a sec to fly to the door and open.

‘What happened Vicky?‘

She was almost in tears.

‘What happened to your eyes? Your face is swollen.’

She shook her head. ‘We had an argument’

‘And he did this to you? On a day you are suppose to be happy? Seriously, I don’t know. . . . .’

‘Just let me rest, I don’t want to hear anything now.‘

‘I’m sorry’ I apologized.

I offered her a cup of tea as she lay on the bed.

‘Thank you’. She said.

‘You’re welcome.’ I smiled and watched her drink.

‘Maybe you should go to work from here. I could go to your place and bring some clothes‘ I offered.

‘Thank you but no‘ she said, ‘That bastard would not dare come to my place.’

I sighed. This was the second time he was hitting her and some flowers and a date would take her back to his arms as usual.

***************

I was driving out to buy food stuffs. It was raining but I was determined to cook today, I wasn’t about to spend money on food delivery and this evening was the perfect time to shop for foodstuffs.

My phone rang.

‘Hey babe’

‘Mira I know you might think I am stupid but this box of cakes and this beautiful jewelry on my wrist now that Nathan bought me just. . . .. ‘

‘Are you being serious now?’

‘I know. . . He was just so sweet and he apologized. He sat outside my door and waited for hours till I opened the door . . . .‘

‘You are confused’ I said, shaking my head. ‘That guy is going to hit you again.’

‘I don’t want to talk about that Mira. That’s past now and this is now’

‘Okay, Alright.’

‘Where are you now?‘

‘Well, I am driving to the mall, I need to get foodstuffs.’ I said.

‘Wait? Are you driving and calling?’

‘No ma’m. I just parked my car to answer your call.’

‘Oh, that’s a relief. So what are you cooking?

‘Why don’t you come over at my place tonight and find out yourself‘ I said, laughing.

She laughed too. ‘Okay.’

I drove into the mall, I noticed a girl waiting outside obviously annoyed being under the rain with an umbrella that could barely cover her. I took my time to buy everything I would need and rushed inside my car to avoid being wet by the rain. The girl was still standing outside.

‘Hello. Are you waiting for someone?’

‘I am waiting for a cab‘ she replied.

‘Where are you going? It’s raining and I don’t think you would find a cab sooner.’

‘I am going across the third street.‘

‘Oh come in. Let me drop you then’

She was obviously relieved and got in.

‘Thank you’ she said.

‘You’re welcome. By the way I’m Mira.’

‘Oh, I am Laura.‘

‘Nice name’ I complimented.

‘Is this the way you dress?’ She asked, amused.

I smiled. ‘Yes. You like the Tom-boy kind of look?‘

‘Maybe. I have a friend who dresses like this too but she is out of the country now.‘

‘Really?’

My phone vibrated, I quickly scanned through the text, it was from Vicky – she cancelled coming over. She was sleeping over at Nathan’s place.

I sighed.

‘Is everything okay?’

‘Oh, yes it is. Sorry, that was my bestie. She just cancelled coming over’

‘Oh, was that why you went to buy these foodstuffs? You know what? I can come cook with you just to say thank you’

‘Really?’ I smiled. ‘It’s fine but I don’t think it is necessary, besides, you need to go home, take a hot shower and change your wet dress.’

‘I stay with a friend and home is still locked till 9pm. I forgot my keys’

‘Are you serious?’ I laughed.

She laughed too. ‘I should come. I just made another new friend today.’

The rain was now heavier as I drove into the compound. I went into my room and brought a big over all T-shirt and turned on the heater.

‘Wear this when you aer done. I would be in the kitchen’ I offered Laura.

‘Thank you’

We chatted and laughed throughout and after eating the delicious soup, we continued our chat.

‘So tell me about your friend?’

‘Oh, you mean Vicky?’

She nodded.

‘We have been friends since childhood, though her parents her late. She is a strong but open- minded person, sometimes she could be very silly but she’s smart. And I like her alot. She works at a printing firm, maybe if you have some works you want to do, I could give her your number, so she can make for you.’

Laura laughed. ‘Wow, that’s nice. You guys started way back.’

‘So tell me about you?’

‘I just moved into town recently after completing my diploma. I work at a cosmetic store. It’s quite hard but we are struggling through.’

‘It’s okay. .. .’

‘Ouch’ She cried.

‘What is it?’

‘You left a pin here. Oh my, there’s blood on my finger.’

I rushed to bring some antiseptic and started treating her cut. Then I looked at her and smiled. She smiled back and just as a night imagination, I caressed through her.

‘You should go home’ I said as we fell asleep side by side.

Health / 10 Daily Habits That Will Improve Your Life by magazineguy(m): 10:44am On Feb 07, 2018
In the sea of daily habits that could enhance your life, only a few of them stand out from the rest and give you an edge in life.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. “

— Aristotle

Get Continuous Rest

Working in a high capacity for a long period of time can exhaust anyone, and if you are not taking the proper amount of time to rest, your body will crash, and it will have consequences on everything you do.

That’s why it makes a lot of sense to start everything here. Now, I won’t tell you to sleep for 8 hours every night or to wake up at a specific hour. That’s entirely up to you.

Instead, your goal should be to find the right time to go to bed and the right time to wake up, so you can get enough rest, remain healthy and feel energized.

Wake up Early

The moment you step outside and let the daily momentum kick in, you slowly reduce the control over how your day pans out. That control is difficult to re-gain later in the day.

That’s why it’s essential to wake up earlier and use the first couple of hours so that you can take control over your state of mind and your body. In those few hours, you’ll kickstart the day in the way it suits you best.

Eat Healthy & Exercise

The sedentary lifestyle is slowly killing us, and we are not even noticing it.

You need to make a deal with yourself that no matter what happens in your life, health comes first — which means that you need to take care of yourself first before you engage in anything else.

There are only two things you need to keep in mind:

Healthy Diet
Physical Activity
Make small actions every day, and let the compound effect do its thing.

Meditate

We live in a world where everything is designed to steal your attention (including this article), and that makes it challenging to find a peaceful moment just for yourself.

And these moments are necessary if we’re going to keep clarity and calmness of our mind.

That’s why you need to find few minutes a day — preferably earlier in the day, to create a grounding effect that will help you center yourself, and re-focus on what’s important.

If nothing, just to breathe and calm your thoughts.

Plan

It’s easy to get swept away with the dynamic environment we live in.

Because of this, you need to constantly pull yourself back and plan out how you want your life to unfold instead of letting the external circumstances do it for you.

Execution is what matters, but this depends solely on your ability to plan and follow through on that plan.

Focus on High Leverage Activities

Not all things you do will give you a high return on investment.

Your time is precious, and you should be careful where you’re allocating it.

Whenever in doubt, look at your plan, and ask yourself:

What are the 20% of activities that will yield the 80% of the results?

And then do it.

Acquire New Skills

Know that your goals dictate what you need to learn.

You should never randomly acquire skills. Try instead to learn the skills that will help you achieve your goals, no matter in what area of your life.

Know that every skill you acquire will not be beneficial on its own but will stack up with every skill you’ve acquired earlier, and you will start moving forward.

Read

Reading, no matter the genre sparks creativity and unleashes your imagination.

The reason for this is because every new idea a book can offer (no matter how small it seems) interacts with the knowledge you already have.

So whenever you open a book, look for just one idea, and see how you can apply it in everyday life.

Interact with Doers

If you are the most active person in the room, you are in the wrong room.

Find people that are doing something incredible with their lives and learn from them.

Even interacting with people who are driven and are accomplishing something in their life will serve as an inspiration. It will get you to take action.

Reflect & Evaluate

Time is passing by faster than ever because we have more things that preoccupy us.

This makes it challenging to take a break to reflect and evaluate how our lives are turning out.

So, just before you go to bed, give yourself a goal to evaluate your day and what can be improved the next day.

Not only this but every couple of months you should take a day or two to evaluate your plans. To see what delivers results, and what needs to be cut.

Then, adapt your plan and don’t be afraid to pivot if necessary.

Business / 7 Steps To Consider When Establishing A Record Label In Nigeria by magazineguy(m): 9:39pm On Feb 06, 2018
The Nigerian music industry is one of the biggest and many have tagged the industry a multi-billion dollar industry. In recent years, the revenue been generated from the music business in Nigeria has increased exponentially just as Nigerian music is gaining worldwide acceptance and support. Without an iota of doubt, record label play a vital role in the achievement of this feat as they are the ones who harness and promote these talents that blossomed into superstars and are doing Nigeria proud continentally and internationally e.g. (Wizkid and Empire Mates Entertainment)

In line with this, the establishment of a record label can sure be a profitable investment for anyone that wants to venture into the music world. However, in successfully establishing a record label in Nigeria, certain things must be considered and steps followed.

A Business Plan

Memorandum and articles of association, the aims and objectives, vision and mission, type of artistes to sign, type of contracts to sign for artistes and many more constitutes the plans of a record label. A proper business plan helps streamline the goals and defines the path on which the record label treads. An example is the G-Worldwide label policy where the signed artists are not allowed to collaborate with other artists outside the label.

Funding

Funding is very essential for a record label to function. In fact, money is the bedrock of any successful label. Money is needed to promote the label’s artist, shop for the wardrobe of the artistes and buying one or two studio equipment amongst others. Since revenue wouldn’t be generated immediately the label starts, the label needs cash to function and not pack up along the line. The sum of three million naira is not a bad idea.

Registration

After drafting a business plan and getting enough funds, the next step in establishing a record label in Nigeria is to register the label with the Corporate Affairs Commission. This ensures that the label is given the status of a legal entity which can sue and be sued in that capacity. Registration of the label allows the label to carry out valid transactions without fear, execute contracts with their artistes, the copyright of the artist and every material emanating from the label is protected and the company’s name and logo is exclusively restricted. Registration with the CAC should cost between Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira and Five Hundred Thousand Naira. Without been duly registered, any transaction conducted by the music label is void.

Recording Studio

In order to save costs and motivate the signed artists to give in their best, it is advisable that a record label establishes a well-equipped recording studio for artistes signed to the label. A standard studio should gulp between Five Hundred Thousand Naira to Two Million Naira.

Human Resources

Human resources is very essential in setting up a record label. For a label to properly function, the workforce and staff motivation goes a long way in reflecting on the artiste success and consequently the label’s success. Human resources include the PR/publicity which handles the public image of the artistes and the label, inform the public of their shows, tours as well as promoting the artiste. The sales team ensures that the songs and materials from the label makes physical and digital sales through interaction and negotiation with marketers and online sale sites. There is also the logistics team concerning shows, travelling of artistes, bookings for interviews and more. It is in the logistics team that the artist manager belongs to, serving as an intermediary between the artist and the label. The A & R team handles the discovery of new talents to sign into the label.

With a recording studio, the label will also need a music producer and sound engineer to handle the music aspect of the label, which is the major ‘raw material’ which they must manufacture and generate income from. Finally, a legal team to handle court cases in case of clashes between the artist and the label, draft contract for the artistes and also handle endorsement deals for the label and artist therein.

Signing an artiste

Having fulfilled all these other necessary steps listed above, the next step for the record label is to sign an artiste that matches the record label goals and drive. This is the work of the A & R team. They look out for rising stars in the industry that can successfully recover any money that the label spends on them as no business wants to make loss. Signing a good and marketable artiste is a very vital step in the formation of a record label.

Creating hype for your artiste

Now the record label is all set, all that is left for the continued existence of the label is for the label to continue promoting the artistes in the label. With time, proper planning, promotion and development, the label is bound to be at the top of their game with top notch artists, sold out shows at the same time raking in millions.

Business / 4 Perfect Timing To Start Your Entrepreneurship Journey by magazineguy(m): 8:48am On Feb 05, 2018
There are times in our lives that we are faced with deciding what direction we should channel our energies for success and how to go about reaching our goals. Ignorance, fear, carefree attitude and false assumption had inhibited many individuals from venturing into business at the right time. Time is an important asset and these are times that should be considered best to start a business:

While schooling

Many great entrepreneurs started out while they were students, top on the list is Mark Zuckerberg who invented Facebook in his dorm while studying at Harvard in 2004, a social networking site which was meant to be for his classmates, the site spread globally generating billions of users. While it is always easier for students to combine academics and fun, it is also advisable to combine studies and entrepreneurship as it will be more rewarding.

When unemployed

When people are jobless, they usually face hard time, it’s a period that things are tough and also a period when someone’s intelligence is put to test. Entrepreneurship requires providing and selling solutions that represent convenience at its best. Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba applied for more than 30 jobs including KFC and was rejected until he started China Yellow pages and then Alibaba. While job hunting, one should not write off the idea of starting a business, who knows? You might be better off running your own business.

While you are gainfully employed

As bad as it sounds, side hustle is a great option which can prevent the trauma and hardship that come with job loss or working on a job that one derives no fulfillment. Russel Simmons and Jeremy Stoppelman founded Yelp while working at Paypal. Yelp is a multi-billion dollar company and has continued to wax stronger since it was founded in 2004.

When you are retired

When one finally exit the 9-5 life and there is still some energy and zeal to work, entrepreneurship is a good option.

Business / Six Ways To Build An Effective Team by magazineguy(m): 5:57am On Jan 31, 2018
Teamwork is seen as the collectiveness of the efforts of several persons united by the desire to record success in the achievement of certain goal(s). All the members are required to bring to the table their individual skills, knowledge and creativity which will be summed into collective efforts directed towards achieving such goal(s). An effective team is very paramount in the running of a business.

Entrepreneurs have recorded tremendous success from building effective team [s] where members contribute great inputs that are directed towards the achievement of collective goal(s). In order to build a team that can work towards an intended future, the entrepreneur and his/her team must imbibe the following:

Focus on shared goal(s)

The entire team must understand the goal(s) which the team is set up to achieve and work collectively to achieve success.

Unity and interdependence

Members are required to work in togetherness and also share information, expertise through collaboration that should help them reach the desired height.

Utilize expertise

Individual professionalism should not be undermined; everyone should be given a fair platform to showcase his/her own useful input as this will help to reveal talents and creativity in members.

Manage conflicts properly

When people are brought together from different backgrounds and beliefs, there is the tendency for conflict to arise during the storming stage of the team’s development. Conflicts should be resolved in an amicable manner where the individuals involved can still be united to work towards the success of the team.

Mutuality in decision and leadership

When making decision or leading a team, mutuality is the consent of the majority or general members involved. This is a good way of giving everyone a great sense of belonging as it shows that every input is valued and appreciated.

Utilize time

Time is very sacrosanct to team especially when the task or goal has a deadline. Success is of no value if it’s not achieved at the right time.

Romance / Dating Tips: Don’t Ask Your Date If They Are Still Single by magazineguy(m): 5:39am On Jan 31, 2018
When you’re on a first date and it’s going well, congratulations, you’ve cleared the first hurdle.

But even though you’re quite sure you’re attracted to each other, other anxieties can creep up on you.

For example, you might start to ask yourself how the attractive, smart, funny person sitting opposite you could possibly be single.

According to marriage counselor Robert Maurer, asking your date this question out loud is a good way of sussing them out, because it will give you an insight into their attitudes towards their past relationships. Are they always blameless when something goes wrong, or are they mature enough to learn from their mistakes?

However, Erika Ettin, founder of dating site A Little Nudge, says asking someone “so how come someone as wonderful as you is still single?” is a terrible idea.

“To start, this question is a back-handed compliment at its finest, with undertones of ‘What’s
wrong with you?’ or ‘Why does no one else want you?” Ettin said in an email to Business Insider. “This question immediately puts the person at the receiving end on the defensive, when that person has nothing at all to be defensive about.”

At best, Ettin said, the person can uncomfortably deflect the question, by answering with something like: “Aren’t you lucky that I am?”

The most awkward part of the question, Ettin says, is the use of the word “still,” as it implies that there is something wrong with being single in the first place.

“Being single is not a crime,” she said. “In fact, it’s a valid life choice that many people desire…[It’s] as if one thinks you’ve been single since the day you came out of the womb. The reality is that we never know the other person’s story.”

It also suggests that being in a relationship is everyone’s ultimate goal, which isn’t necessarily the case. Just because someone is unattached, doesn’t mean they are desperate for a relationship, or they are lagging behind everyone else.

In fact, Ettin says she discourages her clients from discussing past lovers on the first date at all.

“When you go on a date, the focus should be on the present, not the past,” Ettin said. “Talking about prior relationships often brings up difficult feelings, usually negative, and takes the tone of the date down. Talk about things that make you happy, what you like to do, and who you are as a person… not who you used to be, and who you used to be with.”

With that in mind, however curious you might be about someone’s past, perhaps stick to less daunting questions the first time you meet them.

Literature / 5 Codes Of An Unbecoming Side-chick – A Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 9:30pm On Jan 30, 2018
I am smiling at the so many accomplishments I have achieved in life – a booming career, a house of my own, a car and some properties to my name. What more can I ask for? There are deep envied and jealous people who curse at me at any slight opportunity they have (as if they aren’t guilty of what they accuse me of or they would not do the same if they had the opportunity.) I have always said there are two things in getting you what you want in life; your passion for that thing you want and your pxxsy. So I have learned to turn those mocking words into passion and becoming what I want – a side-chick.

***************

The expensive-flowery scent of the room could lure you into your sweetest dreams. I smiled as I caressed Chief Okuego’s late sixties soft pot-belly; sometimes, I wondered why his wife couldn’t do the caressing herself. Well, it’s getting reduced now, thanks to my gym routine check on him. I was so happy I would be getting my dream Range Rover today.

‘Hmmmmm. You have soft hands baby.‘ He said as he fondled my big breast, grinning sheepishly.

‘Let me suck you‘ I smiled.

He started making sounds like an electrocuted somebody, Was it roaring? or whinning? I laughed and spat. It took very few seconds for him to reach climax. What an easy job.

He had literally fallen asleep and his deep loud snoring which I always had to put up with kept me awake most hours of the night.

The next day, I was driving out with my Range.

**************

I advertised my shoe store online and people had so many negative things to say about me. Calling me all sorts of bad names and this shit started after my nudes leaked online which I had sent to Chief Okuego. Well, I got a Range as compensation for the online trolls and my gram presence increased; so many added followers. Cheers to them!

I drove in to my shoe store. My staff were already resumed.

‘Good morning Ma’

‘Have they delivered?‘

‘Not yet ma. But they called few minutes ago. They said there is a bit delay due to their security system but it would be sorted out within 24 hours‘

‘Hmmmm. Inform them to double it. Transfer the money to them. So by this time tomorrow this store should be full.‘ I instructed.

‘Okay ma.’

‘How many orders do we have?’

‘Our site almost crashed. We have so many customers already.‘

I smiled. ‘Very nice.’

Now, I think I should be wondering who the talkers and the trolls are? I wasn’t expecting so much high figures. Even the online trolls were ordering my shoes. I laughed.

***************

Mr John-Kay’s private jet was like a dream come true. This was every top-priority girl dream but only the first top-priority girl gets to be on this plane. If you can sleep with his PA for a whole week and suck the life out of his dick, then maybe you are worth being on this plane. I had to take meds from the lack of good sleep and my throat became so itchy that my doctor had to admit me for days. And I had to keep taking bitter pills throughout my stay in Dubai as I kept sucking and sucking. But it was still a beautiful dream come true as my account would be loaded with expensive money and I get to open another shoe store branch across town. Wait; before I forget.

‘Excuse me, can you take a pic of me?‘

‘Click’ and its on my gram page. My hashtag of a business and an independent woman.

***************

My two weeks Dubai trip was the talk of every gram page and blog online. My gram page was now filled with less trolls and more admiration. ‘They all wanting to be like me.‘ I had earned 70% more off my shoe sales and have started re-stocking again.

My stylist was doing some finishing touching on my gown. I was dressed black for a corporate women get-together. My make-up was flawless as usual and I was given a topic to speak on. Well, my PA took care of that. All I needed to do was to read out exactly what was typed out.

‘You look really good Eno’

‘Thanks dear. Take a pic of me.’ I said handing her my phone.

‘Don’t forget to tag me’ She said, winking. I smiled.

***************

I was starting to notice some abnormal discharge from my vagina. This isn’t happening again. This was the worse shit I hate to experience and sometimes I wish I just took all the meds in this world to stop this. This was not the first time but I didn’t want to worry much because my doctor will take care of it. The first thing was to book an appointment with him.

‘Your treatment is for two weeks and during the cause of time you are advised not to have sex.’

‘But doctor, why can’t you give me an injection first to make the symptoms go away. I prefer taking injections than pills. I would come back next week to start treatment‘ this stupid infection would not stop me from travelling to Paris tomorrow.

‘That’s not advisable. It may lead to more infections which may be difficult to cure and you are a woman. . . .’ He paused. ‘You should start your treatment immediately. Although I can give you a pill to stop the discharge, since the discharge makes one uncomfortable then you start your treatment tomorrow.’

I smiled. ‘Okay doctor.’

Sports / Liverpool: Walk Of Shame And Lone On Merseyside’s Fallen Roads by magazineguy(m): 9:34pm On Jan 29, 2018
I can imagine the memories and hopes – of late night in Istanbul; that epic UEFA Champions League Final between Liverpool and AC Milan. We saw how a resilient and hardworking crawled their way back into the game. These days, it seems that attitude is dead. Last weekend, I expected another comeback for the reds – guess what? It never came. All I saw was anger, despair, disappointed on fans’ faces on the television. No, it can’t be the same team I grew up watching.

With Five European Cups (Champions League), the tides must have shifted in their favor with the lackluster performances in recent times. Despite changing coaches a number of times, the engineering system of the team is still not obeying the laws for a driving power to win trophies. Robbie Fowler went with his scoring boots; Steven G retired with the slip to gift rivals the title in his last season. These are not reasons for the dreadful results we see every other week.

Liverpool’s board must have invested a whooping sum in the region of £380M in the past seasons – that did bring back the lost glory. The defence has always been the reason for headache and a case of concern. Liverpool’s choice for fielding homegrown talent at the back is another worry. Although, they did get a quality name at back in Virgil Van Dijk but these defeats did not stop – losing to a bottom team in the league and another loss behind that last weekend. The attack is one to dread anyday. The trio of Mane, Firmino and Salah has been tremendous. Coutinho must have gone to chase his dreams in Barcelona. We should face the facts – Countinho left because he did not see himself winning titles at Liverpool.

Liverpool will need an overhauling of the team especially the backline this summer if they want to be title contenders next season. You’ll never walk alone.

Business / 3 Pitfalls That Can Destroy The Dreams Of Entrepreneur And How To Overcome Them by magazineguy(m): 4:37am On Jan 29, 2018
Entrepreneurs are doing a lot of great things and there are several people who would have given up because they couldn’t withstand the challenges that come with striving to succeed in entrepreneurship. To start a business and go far as an entrepreneur, there are pitfalls that must be avoided. Here are three pitfalls that can destroy your entrepreneurship dreams:

Quitting When Things Are Hard

When things are hard and the future is uncertain, the level of your hard work, your persistence and optimism should rise high enough to defeat the challenges of the day. What else will you rather do than heed Alan Kay’s words which say “the best way to predict a future is to invent it”, another sincere advice lies in the words of Colin Powell stating that “a dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

Falling For Distractions

Focus is as important as hard work, total commitment and quality result can only be achieved in a short period of time when distractions are avoided. Even Thomas Edison admitted that his success happened as a result of total commitment, in his words; he said “I owe my success to the fact that I never had a clock in my workroom. Seventy-five of us worked 20 hours every day and only slept four hours and we thrived on it.”

Avoid Time Wasting

Time is an important asset to an entrepreneur; timing and time management should be duly learned and always put into practice by an entrepreneur. Using your time judiciously means avoiding dilly dallying or procrastination, Walt Disney said “the best way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”. An entrepreneur must be smart enough to properly time when to act and when to exercise restraint.

Music/Radio / Indigenous Rap: Telling The African Tale The Western Way by magazineguy(m): 10:49am On Jan 26, 2018
Mo ni dream lati fi Ajah sey residence

(I have a dream to use Ajah as my residence)

Moni dream lati di Nigerian president

(I have a dream to become the Nigerian president)

Owo ti awon president n je lo encourage mi

(The money stolen by our presidents, is what encourages me)

Epe ti awon eyan n se fun won lo n discourage mi

(The curses placed on them by the masses, is what discourages me)

At the time when Da Grin dropped this verse on his song Everyday, the song became an instant hit on the street. Both the hip-hop and non-hip-hop fans could relate with the verse because it projects the struggles of a typical African hustler and especially because the verse was communicated in a native language – a language that is ours not that of ‘the queen.’ The words struck delicate chords because in the verse, Da Grin bore down the deepest aspects of the life of an average Nigerian youth, without doing an impression of the hustle on the streets of New York, where it is majorly about skin-colour discrimination, drug trade and guns.

The struggle on the Nigerian street is a different kind but not any less intense. On the Nigerian street, the struggle for most young kids born without a spoon made of silver, is to break free from the hold of limiting societal factors like poverty, perpetual governmental corruption and the struggle to crossover to a better economic class. It is the everyday exercise for Ghetto kids like Da Grin (before the fame). It is the message Reminisce preached about on Where I Come From, this same drive manifests on Phyno’s music and for several other ‘indigenous’ rappers.

For these artistes, experience has put them in a position to listen to uncommon tales of life and made them witnesses to real life happenings that are worth sharing; like the success story of an Enugu kid that was earlier tagged ‘no good,’ the narrative of the dreamer who got turned down again and again by Lagos studio owners until he finally got a chance and success came through, the tale of a kid who had no parent but had to grind on the streets of Mushin to survive. These stories have formed the theme of most indigenous rap projects in the past, they are a core part of the discussion being made in the Nigerian rap community today and centuries from now, the hard knock life stories would continually be told.

Everywhere in the world, similar stories are being told but the unique thing about the way Phyno or Reminisce would do their own narrative, is in the language of use, the originality of the content and the delivery, even though the approach is an adoption of the Western music genre called Hip-hop. Hip-hop itself is more than just a genre but also a culture and its beauty in poetry, rhyme and delivery makes it highly appealing and so, it spreads even outside its original home in US, to become generally accepted in several other music-loving communities of the world including Nigeria.

Contemporary music used to be the heart and soul of the Nigerian music culture but things started to take a different form with increased international interaction and the wave of internet penetration that brought about a high level of exposure to new trends and culture -both good and bad. The adoption of Hip-hop being one of the good adoptions, has turned out to be a major influence on our music culture and it has undergone different levels of metamorphosis in the bid to blend into the Nigerian society and impact the culture more.

While a lot of experimenting has been done with Hip-hop in Nigeria and the results have been considered good in some areas and bad in some, the invention of ‘ indigenous rap ‘ is one of the major successes so far recorded in this area because it allows Nigerians share their own story properly, using the US originated Hip-hop. Artistes like Lord Of Ajasa, Da Grin, Ruggedman, Nigga Raw have at different times contributed to the growth of indigenous rap, by modelling their style of rap music in local languages such that different sections of the Nigerian audience find their works entertaining and relatable. The present generation of indigenous rap artistes including Reminisce, Olamide, Phyno, Zoro and a long list of others are pushing the culture further forward. A lot of them started out as soldiers of destiny, equipped with their innate belief, the street lessons and a determination to get a fair share of success out of life.

So when Meek Mill would rap about his beginnings and say something like,‘I grew up looking up to niggas that was selling coke/Oh, I was raised by the stop sign/No religion I was getting saved by the Glock nine/By the minute I was getting paid like a hot line,’ an Olamide verse would sound like, ‘mo ti nje idi Malu (Now I eat fleshy meat)/Erankekere o ka mi mo (I cannot be satisfied by small meat anymore)…/Atikekereni mo ti jara mi (from a young age, I have been aware)/Won le ja mi mo’ (I don’t need them to enlighten me). The verses are similar because they are narratives about tough start to life but the difference in the two perspectives lies in the fact that while Meek’s verse captures the reality on the streets of Philly; the deals being made around the dark corners, the guns changing hands and putting bodies to the ground; Olamide’s verse bares it all out on the elevated view of a man who came from the house of lack in Bariga to live a first-class life in the urban areas of Lagos and that’s that the beauty of the Nigerian hustler’s story, told by Nigerian natives using indigenous rap.

Literature / Who Hurt You? – A Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 5:17pm On Jan 25, 2018
You see people will treat you the way they like and expect you to be nice to them. They manipulate, deceive and leave you in your darkest hour. You scream, cry and feel the deepest pain in your heart. You try so much to fight back those emotions but no matter how you try, you are broken and pained.

You go through a journey of healing and self-discovery and those same people who broke you are now smiling at you; wanting to be close to you again. And you wonder? Are people really sane? They want you to pretend like nothing ever happened and welcome them with open arms again?

Well, its safe to say that; I will forgive them for me – Let them go wallow in their guilt.

***************

My head was starting to ache from the loud bangs from the door. I didn’t want to open at first because I had a tough day and literally slept tiredly all through the night. But this person was bent on kicking me off my bed when I didn’t want to get up just yet.

‘Who is it?‘ I shouted angrily. That person must better be someone who has some sensible and reasonable thing to tell me for cutting my deserving sleep off.

‘Open your door jare. Shoo, na so you dey sleep?’

I opened the door and my annoying friend Annie-Rise walked in. I frowned ‘And you decided to come early this morning. ….?’

‘Abegi, let me hear word. I called your phone severally, it rang but you never answered your call.’

‘Sorry, It was on silent. I needed my sleep’.

‘It is past 8 am and your still sleeping. Are you the only one working?’ Annie-Rise smirked.

‘I am not going to the office today. I took the day off.’ I said as I tried cuddling into bed again.

‘You had better get up from there. We are going out. I need you to follow me to the shopping mall, I want to buy some cooking items.‘

‘Can I just get an extra hour to sleep again? I would call you when I am ready?‘

‘And who is buying your excuse? Get up and go freshen up’

I hissed. This was my problem with her. She was always all up in my mood, trying to buy her way out. Can I just have some more sleep? I hissed again.

‘Fine. Let me go freshen up. At least I know I am getting commission for going with you.’

***************

I got back from the outing with Annie-Rise, she had bought a new microwave and a blender. I decided to buy some few set of spoons and a set of glass cup. Annie-Rise was one of my friendliest friends. She was chatty, jovial and very opinionated. She worked at a broadcasting firm, had her own car and owned a flat. The only difference between the two of us was that she was the flirting and outing type who typically rolled with people.

My phone rang.

‘Babe. You don’t reach house?‘

‘Yes oooo. Just got home now. How far with them?‘

‘I have already started using the blender‘ Annie-Rise laughed over the phone.

‘I trust you. Anyways, we would talk later. Thanks for calling.‘

‘You are welcome.‘

I went over my call logs and decided to call Charles, I had missed his calls earlier.

‘Hey baby‘ His voice rose.

I smiled. ‘Sorry, I missed your calls, I went out with Annie.‘

‘You went shopping?’

I laughed. ‘This time we bought cooking items.‘

‘Very interesting. A relief. So are we seeing tonight? You know what I told you about.’

Pause

‘The money for the Abuja trip.‘

‘Oh, Yes I almost forgot. I would bring it while coming tonight.’

‘Thank you so much dear. You are the best. I mean, what could I ever do without you?‘

I laughed ‘See you soon.’

It was very okay to give Charles the money he needed for his Abuja trip. He had lost his job some months again and his new job wasn’t paying much. He had planned to go to Abuja to invest in some projects, hopefully in three months time, we would be getting our 60% gain, buy a new house, get married and have kids. It was all planned out, what more can one ask for?.

***************

I closed from work earlier today and I decided to go see Annie-Rise, it would be fun paying her back because I know she won’t like my disturbance; but what are we friends for? If not annoying each other. Strangely, her door was locked. I knocked twice to be sure nobody was inside. I called her phone, it rang but no answer. I shrugged, she would come check up on me then, when she sees my missed calls. I thought of going to see Charlie, he was to leave for Abuja the next day. A speeding car which almost ran over me made me fall, I sprained my ankle and decided to go home straight. What a night, I thought!

Sports / 3 Reasons Man. United Might Regret Signing Alexis Sanchez by magazineguy(m): 9:03pm On Jan 24, 2018
Manchester United fans are probably the happiest set of soccer fans in the world at the moment. I’m sure they understand what it means for something to be too good to be true – the signing of Alexis Sanchez sure feels like that. The club already appears to be the biggest winner of the current winter transfer window after securing the signing of Alexis from Arsenal. There is little doubt that Manchester United is the club to envy.

Alexis Sanchez is sure to make an early impact on any team in the world, be it Madrid, his former team, Barcelona or his new club, Manchester United. The Chilean attacker has been labeled a mercenary who would give a lift to any team that hires him. The diminutive fleet-footed attacker is certain to make it into the first team of any club of world and starting from January 22nd, 2018; he would be filing out with stars likes Pogba, De Gea, Lukaku and co.

The thought of Sanchez running down the wings at Old Trafford where he is expected to be evoking fear in opposition players and tearing apart their hostile defenses, has caused Manchester United fans to revel in boundless excitement. For United faithfuls, the view looks perfect but it is not. It is more of a clear sky with a little shade. Here are 3 reasons Manchester United might regret signing Sanchez:

Sanchez Is Not A Long-term Solution
The Alexis Sanchez deal is actually a brilliant one but it is still only a deal that fits into United’s short term plan. Sanchez is closing in on 30s, he is arriving as a player in his prime who has about 2 more seasons of top-level football in him. Antonio Greziman would have been a better option, although more expensive. The French player operates on the same level as Sanchez and he looks like has 7 more seasons of first rate soccer in him. Sanchez’s arrival throws a clog in the wheel of the allegedly agreed Greizmann’s transfer to Manchester United..

Threat to team harmony
The squad harmony in an soccer club should be treated as sacred. It should be maintained and preserved, if collective success is to be achieved. The squad harmony in the current United is rumoured to be suffering a crack caused by two factions in the team – some experienced players are irked by the actions of some of the young players. It could get even worse with the arrival of Sanchez who comes with his own size of ego to a team already dealing with egos of players like Paul Pogba, Ibrahimovic and co. – including that of Mourinho. The fact is, the bigger the team grows the more egos are likely to collide.

Stunting Growth Of Young Talents
Alexis Sanchez is expected to walk straight into the ManUtd team and he was quick to state his preference for the left wing and central role. His arrival poses a direct threat to the positions of players like Martial, Rashford & Lukaku who are considered the future stars of the club and expected to develop their talents especially through match experience. The arrival of Alexis is sure to limit the match experience available to these starlets who now face the risk of playing fewer games which could lead to frustration that could cause these young stars not to fulfill their potential or even worse, cause them to dump the club.

The Nigerian Music industry is a meeting points of different talents – from the artistes, to the promoters, to the marketers, the sound engineers, the producers and all other personalities involved, it can be said that it is difficult for the industry to function effectively if one arm is totally independent of the other arms. Producers are one of the major stakeholders in the music industry and it is necessary that the new talents are allowed a place in the industry to learn and complement the established acts in order to maintain the needed fluidity in the music production aspects of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

While the year 2017 brought us talented producers like Krizbeats, Sessbeats and other talented producers, currently making waves, we take a look at ten new music producers that are ready to take over the music industry in 2018;

Business / Six Ways To Build An Effective Team by magazineguy(m): 4:41pm On Jan 23, 2018

Literature / Re: Why I Chose To Be Silent – Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 12:03pm On Jan 23, 2018
Cont'd

My outing went very well. I got a brand new car, a new apartment and a new office. This was like a dream come true, I was way richer than Juli-Ray who was battling with illness. The disease had eaten deep into her system and she was even finding it hard to breathe that she had to be placed on oxygen. It had infected her blood and she was battling for survival. Poor Juli.

I had gotten a call earlier that one of our neighbours was the one who drove her to the clinic after he heard her shouts and cry for help; the neighbour told me she was fighting for her breathe when she found her. I explained to her that Juli-Ray only complained of being dizzy and went to bed and I never thought it was that severe.

The doctor walked in.

‘Good morning doctor. How is she? What is really happening?’ I wanted to know.

‘The tests shows food poisoning. And obviously she has been poisoned for months now. Her body system couldnt take it any longer.‘

The doctor said.

‘What? Food poisoning? Could it be at her office? I and Juli basically eat together.’ I was shocked

The doctor wrote some prescriptions ‘She would need to answer that when she is up. I have prescribed some drugs for her. Hopefully, she would get better.’

***************

Juli-Ray was discharged from the clinic days later. I had moved into my new apartment but offered to get someone who would stay and clean the house. She had refused my offer and said she wanted to be alone and congratulated me on my latest achievements. I knew she wouldn’t resume work anytime soonest, she was pale and needed to get back herself. Her chief had footed her medical bills all through her stay at the clinic but she knew she had to pay him back but she wasn’t ready now and she knew she would go broke.

‘I can give you some money to help you. . . .’

She smiled ‘No, never mind Lola. I would be fine.‘

I sighed and looked at her. ‘Let me get you water.’

***************

I got a call at the clinic that Juli-Ray collapsed again. I rushed to the hospital immediately and found her laying almost lifeless. I wanted to see the doctor but was approached by our neighbours. Their faces looking stern.

A tape was played right in front of me.

‘Why? Why? Why did you do this to your friend?‘

I was calm and quiet.

‘Speak. Speak.’

I wanted to but I couldn’t. How would I tell them that I felt like a slave to Juli-Ray, how I watched her have the finest clothes and bags in town and get those loaded cash in her bank account. I wanted to be like her too; more like her. But I couldn’t act it. She was comfortable the way I was bit I wasn’t.

‘Speak. Speak. We have called the police to get you arrested. You just committed a grave offence. Your friend is lying lifeless and to think you could have escaped with this if not for me that put a camera, I suspected you that very first day the doctor said food poisoning which you denied knowing anything about.’

I tried so hard to speak. I really wanted to but couldn’t. All those emotions were boiling in my head. Why did I poison her in the first place? There were other ways to go about this? I wasn’t thinking then and I wasn’t thinking now. I chose to be silent. I wanted to take over Juli-Ray’s all perfect world. Slowly, I picked up my bag and with a calculated gait, I walked out of the hospital while being protected by my two body-guards.

Sports / Alexis Sanchez And Mkhitaryan Swap Deal: Who Wins? by magazineguy(m): 11:36am On Jan 23, 2018
The January transfer window looks to be one of the most needless and panicking windows in the world of football. Although, it is not without a hitch in the team’s driving mechanics, a compromising way through gluttonism to bud the strength defensively, attacking-wise. We might consider the struggling sides that are desperately doing all things to avoid the drop; the bigger teams are just trying to build more, making it a shameless intimidation because the finances are available to get players of top class and quality. This is a recurring situation and we might not see desolation to this set up.

Arsenal and Manchester would be hoping to do business for the umpteenth time as they hope to complete the Alexis Sanchez to United and Mkhitaryan to Emirates deal. We have seen the two teams moving for their players with the likes of Andy Cole, Mikael Silvestre, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck having featured for both teams despite the rivalry. A valid memory from the RVP move to Manchester United few years ago made Wenger swore never to see him sell his players to his domestic rivals. This is actually going to resurface as the two teams are ready to swap probably one of their top quality stars. Arsenal fans’ growing impatience with Wenger and his policies have been the major reason behind their fall from grace to grass in recent years. The gunners cannot wait for Wenger to use the exit door. Wenger keeps selling best players to United. RVP’s move to United that season made United clinch their 20th premier league title.

Alexis Sanchez has been looking quite shabby this season. His body language and commitment this season has been put to question as his output cannot be compared to the previous season. Regardless of him running out of contract in the summer, he still felt the need to abort ship earlier. Has Sanchez fallen out of love with Wenger and the incompetent board? Remember, Arsenal was a place of succor for Alexis when Barcelona dumped him on the bench.

Mkhitaryan would be the most beneficial of this deal as Mourinho has grown rather less fond of the Albanian despite starting the season strongly. He would be hoping to see his redemption and regular games at Arsenal.

Music/Radio / 5 Musical Collaborations We Hope To See In 2018 by magazineguy(m): 11:56am On Jan 19, 2018
The 2018 Nigerian music industry promises to be exciting and filled with entertainment as the year 2017 ended on a high note wherein a sizeable number of well organized, crowd pulling and unforgettable musical concerts were held and a lot of reconciliation occurred with the likes of Mo’Hits coming back together to perform at Davido’s 30 billion concert and Davido and Wizkid bringing each other out at their individual concerts.

As the year begins in full force, we take a look at some of the most anticipated musical collaborations we hope to see in the year 2018.

Tekno and Drake

Tekno aka Slimdaddy in late 2017 posted a picture with Drake. Drake also posted a picture of Tekno working in his studio and another picture of him discussing with Tekno in which he captioned “Tekk Time”. From all indications,Tekno who is currently signed to Columbia Records might be cooking another chart topping single with OVO himself and judging with the response towards Drake previous works with Nigerian afrobeats star, Wizkid on One Dance and Come Closer, we are sure the Tekno and Drake collaboration will be FIRE.

Wizkid and Davido

After a series of twitter beefs and disses between the two stars during the course of 2017, the two superstars finally decided to bury the hatchet when Wizkid brought Davido out on stage as a guest act at his concert in Lagos. Davido reciprocated by bringing Wizkid out at his own 30 billion concert days later and music lovers and critics were finally assured all is well between the two when they exchanged pleasantries at the One Lagos Music fiesta. As the two forerunners of the Nigerian music scene have settled any form of misunderstanding between them, Nigerians are eagerly anticipating the two stars to show their musical prowess on a track together and give us the much awaited collaboration Davido promised us after winning the MTV MAMA African artiste of the year award in 2014.

Mo’ Hits
One of the biggest highlights of the 2017 entertainment scene in Nigeria was the performance of the entire Mo’ Hits crew for the first time since their split in 2011. D’Banj went ahead to post a picture of himself and Don Jazzy on his Instagram, same with Wande Coal posting a video of their performance and then Don Jazzy tagging Wande Coal and D’Banj in a tweet response to Wizkid’s question of how the song – booty call was made. All seems well between the former label mates and with rumours gaining round, it appears we should be expecting a fire track in 2018 from the crew that gave us hits like Pere, Close To You and Booty Call.

Kiss Daniel and Others

While under the management of G-Worldwide Records, talented act and Woju crooner, Kiss Daniel was restricted from collaborating with other artistes in the music industry except his label mate, Sugarboy and despite this clause, he has been able to drop so many hit tracks singlehandedly. However in late 2017, Kiss Daniel pulled out of G-Worldwide and created his own record label called Fly Boy Inc. The creation of the label gave Kiss Daniel a new level of creative control and restored his ability to collaborate on fire tracks with other dope acts in the music industry. With a track with Wizkid already in the picture, we cannot wait to see how Kiss Daniel fares in his collaborative efforts in the industry.

Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage

The two queens of the Nigerian Music industry have been doing the country proud in Africa and beyond. The two female acts were nominated for the best female acts in almost all major awards held in the continent in 2017. While the two artistes have repeatedly stated that they do not have an ill feeling towards each other, fans are anticipating a collaboration between the two vocal power house and leading African female stars in 2018.

Literature / Why I Chose To Be Silent – Fiction Story by magazineguy(m): 6:52pm On Jan 18, 2018
They said speak, speak up. I tried so hard to speak, I tried so hard to express myself. But those years of anger, oppression, bitter emotions, and manipulations had left me with so much pain in my heart that I chose to be silent with the mutness of my mouth.

***************

It was a Saturday morning, a fresh day to begin the morning chores. I had piled my unwashed clothes and left it in the laundry; waiting for the water to come on to start my laundry. I started re-selecting my clothes and found out that there were a few more clothes added which wasn’t mine. I sighed. This wasn’t the first time I found Juli-Ray clothes in my pile of unwashed clothes. As usual, I sighed again and began washing including her undies.

‘Hey girl, I am off to go do some shopping‘ A voice over me said.

I forced a smile ‘Go well‘.

‘You don’t need anything?‘ She said with a twinkle in her eyes.

‘Not really.‘

She shrugged ‘Okay. See you later. And I finished the leftover rice, you can cook another one‘

‘No problem.‘

I watched her as she walked past the room, looking expensive in her designer wear on her calculated gait. I ran into Juli-Ray when I just came into town newly and was having accommodation problems. I had just graduated in Public Administration and had left the rural life hoping for a better future in the civilized town. Juli-Ray had a rented two bedroom apartment and was living alone; A graduate of Sociology and working in one of the finest consultant agency in town. She was glad to find a good and less-trouble roommate and promised to help me get a job. We connected immediately and I moved in. She was independent and always stocked the kitchen with foodstuffs (I was the one always doing the food shopping) and doing the house chores; she had offered to get a cleaner to clean the house but I told her not to worry. She changes her wardrobe every three months; most times she offered to give me some of the clothes but I kindly rejected them. She was light-skinned, tall, intelligent with a nice accent.

I was almost done with the laundry and I thought of the rice that was to be boiled for a pot of two.

***************

I set out the table for four; Juli-Ray was inviting her girlfriends over to the house, I had prepared peppered chicken for them. I was washing the utensils in the kitchen when Juli-Ray came over to me.

‘Do you know what I do for a living?‘

I was taken with shock. ‘What kind of question is that?‘ I asked her.

‘A good question that needs an answer’ she replied smiling.

‘You are a certified consultant’

‘Hmmmm. I like that word certified but what do you think puts food on our table? The money I get from the firm? You are smart aren’t you? I am saying if you want to earn more money and have your own apartment, then you need to do what you have to do. Your marketing job isn’t helping you in anyway. You are allowed to roll with big girls like us. There’s an invite to an opening of a lounge tonight; one of the richest business man in town is the owner of the lounge and he would be coming. You are coming or not, your stay here is limited. Its time you work too.’

I was all moping at her all the time she was talking. A strange urge was driving through me to take the kitchen knife and stab her to death; that was the kind of rage I was feeling. Being her house keeper wasn’t enough, now she wanted me to work for her. I swallowed.

‘Okay. I will think about it.‘

She grinned and walked away.

***************

Juli-Ray had taken sick leave from the office; she almost fainted at the office. She was complaining of feeling dizzy and weak and lost appetite for food. Her skin was becoming pale and rashes were all over her body. I offered her water to drink.

‘Maybe, you should go to the clinic‘ I suggested.

‘Yes. I would do so later in the evening. I just called the doctor, I have done some tests.’

‘That’s better. Don’t worry, you would be fine.’ I smiled.

‘Thank you. Are you going to see Chief tonight?‘

‘Yes, I am. Since I am taking your car, I could drop you at the clinic from there.’

‘Oh okay. That would be nice of you.‘

I patted her shoulders and watched her fall into deep sleep.

I was ready for my outing and peeped into Juli-Ray’s room, she was still sleeping soundly and I felt it was okay to let her sleep. I could take her to the clinic tomorrow.

TV/Movies / How To Get Your Music Video On Trace TV by magazineguy(m): 8:47am On Jan 17, 2018
Following comments on social media, Trace has made available a document titled Trace Video Selection Explanation.

The document, which was released by the company, reveals how TraceTV, which owns several stations including Trace Naija, decides which music videos will reach its many viewers.

As headed by Sam Onyemelukwe, Trace West Africa says artists are never asked to pay to submit their videos/ “There is no one individual at Trace who can get your video played on the channel by saying so,” it said.

“DO NOT PAY ANYBODY WHO SAYS THEY CAN ADD YOUR VIDEO,” the statement continues. “There is a clear and transparent process and a committee makes selections. This statement is to explain the process and selection criteria. Please share this with any and everybody, post it, email and if you have comments or questions about it please let us know, so we can answer anything not addressed here.”

It appears the company’s management feels that statement is necessary after certain individuals, including pop artist Dammy Krane, accused the station on social media of demanding money for airplay.

In a separate document, the company explains that it offers artists a package called Zoom. This package, it says, “is a 20-second programme on the channel which focuses on upcoming artists and also gives an opportunity for exposure”.

The standard fee for Zoom is N350 000 [about $1 000]. However, this does not guarantee that your video will be selected to air on the channel,” it said.

The problem might have come from this package, as at least one social media user gave that figure—350 000 naira—as the supposed fee charged by the TV channel before a music video could be aired.

To read the guidelines on getting your video on the Trace TV network, please see the attached document below.

Sports / Why I Feel Sorry For Arsenal Fans by magazineguy(m): 9:26am On Jan 16, 2018
I would understand if an Arsenal fan dreads transfer windows. I would not be surprised if an Arsenal fan confesses that he/she enjoys soccer less, once the transfer window is open. It is usually a tough period for the club. It is a time when Arsené Wenger shocks the world with unpopular decisions. It is a time when the club is weakened and their rivals are strengthened. It is a time when Arsenal loses its best players to clubs that understand that the round leather game is a money-fueled game.

The 2018 winter transfer window is about two weeks old already and the giants have started to strategise and commit to big transfer moves. Barcelona has already secured the signing of their long term target, Coutinho and PSG is scouting for new recruits for their different departments, but Arsenal is edging towards losing their best players. Sanchez is at the two-way junction of Manchester, Ozil seems to be using his nights to pack his bag and guess how the Arsenal board is planning to replace these world soccer stars? By signing a scout whose specialty is in grass-root football.

The management of Arsenal signed a new head of recruitment to raise the standard of the club and return the glory days to the Emirates stadium. The new man, Sven Mislintat, was signed from Borussia Dortmund where he built a reputation for spotting soccer talents like Shinji Kagawa, Lewandowski, Aubameyang, when they were still rather unknown to the world. Mislintat, who is nicknamed ‘Diamond Eye,’ played a pivotal role in the success of ‘The Black & Yellows’ but his ability to transform Arsenal remains in doubt.

Most Gunner fans would agree that the problem with the club is not from the department of talent recruitment. Arsenal has always been one of the leading teams in the area of scouting and talent recruitment but the club has failed to transfer these advantages into major success on the pitch. Rather, the second-class quality of the first team players and the deficiencies in the coaching department, have been highlighted to be the major problems of the club. This therefore relates the signing of Sven Mislintat to leaving one’s problems to find a solution to a problem that one does not have.

The management of Arsenal has chosen to continue in the direction that has led the club to move from a leading position to celebrating consistency as the fourth best team in England. The Arsenal board is sticking with the plan that has caused cobwebs and dust to cover the large trophy room of the club. I do not pity the board members who have the power to make necessary changes but would not. I pity the Arsenal fans who pay huge ticket fees at Emirate and those who would go on ArsenalTV to complaint and rant to a rigid board. I can relate with the tweet that supporting Arsenal is a real struggle. It is like the cancer of football.

Business / 5 Ways To Start A Successful Year As An Entrepreneur by magazineguy(m): 10:04am On Jan 15, 2018
When a year begins, we most times start with resolutions that dictate how our lives, behaviours and activities will look like or improve positively but unfortunately, we tend to go back to our old ways after a short period of time repeating our mistakes, shortcomings and failures that may have held us back the previous year(s). Aside from your resolutions, here are a few ways you can adopt to have a successful 2018 as an entrepreneur:

Plan

The only sacrosanct activity in our personal and business lives remain planning, it is a deliberate step directed towards succeeding. While it is important to repeat the things that helped us to succeed the previous years, it’s also very important we generate new plans that can withstand modern business challenges and propel the business into more success.

Stop procrastinating

Delaying tasks will hamper business growth; it’s in the habit of most people to procrastinate and also give excuses for doing so. To succeed always, carry out tasks as at when due without delay.

Manage your team

People are from different background holding different beliefs and expectations. Try as much as possible to inculcate hard work, optimism and team spirit in them.

Explore opportunities

Entrepreneurs are most times afraid of change; they are comfortable within their limits and afraid of the tasks of venturing into new things. Be more daring in 2018 by exploring opportunities carefully and minimizing losses. That is, carefully assess the probability of success in the opportunities you intend to take on in order to control losses.

Innovate

Innovation makes your product or service to be unique. If you desire to stand out in your industry, you must learn to do things differently in an outstanding manner. Constant positive innovation with creativity has helped businesses to develop greatly.

Career / Research Shows Private University Graduates Are Dominating The Creative Industry by magazineguy(m): 9:00am On Jan 13, 2018
For decades, Nigeria has habitually turned to oil wells to fill her parched throat. Successive Nigerian administrations take turns to lean their back against oil blocks while other sectors are made to wait for the flow. The nation dipped too deep into this well and too frequently even, that it can no longer guarantee the supply of our future needs.

Even the government has accepted that her long-serving oil tap is running dry. The power brokers have turned their focus to a new site where the supply for now is in trickles but the potential is much more than that of the crude oil– this new site is the creative industry which embodies movie, music, fashion and other industries that prioritise the generation and exploitation of knowledge and information.

According to Lai Mohammad, the government is focused on developing the creative sector to fuel the nation’s economic growth. In his words, “the government is focusing its attention on developing the creative sector as an alternative means of boosting the nation’s economy.”

While the government is tapping into creative areas for national economic purpose, individuals are writing new histories by exploring the new gold mine. Young men are putting their ideas to test in new fields. Woke ladies are honing their skills to improve the quality of life in their environment. This has led to a surge in the number of creatives in Nigeria.

Art in Nigeria has benefitted from the new development, particularly in the area of dynamism and breadth. New faces appear on Nollywood platforms every time. The music industry welcomes aspiring greats every day, the world of fashion is spinning to accommodate new players. The same thing happens in the fields of architecture, craftwork and other creative ventures.

Interestingly, a good number of these creatives have come from the direction of private universities. There is no data to quote but there is enough evidence to establish the fact that there is a wave of private university products sweeping across the creative industry. Institutions like Covenant University, American University of Nigeria and Babcock University are exporting their products to the different departments of the Nigerian creative industry.

The music industry for instance, is changing its form to welcome an artiste like Nonso Amadi. The Covenant University graduate appeared on the scene as only a “good voice” but he has since managed to convince millions of fans with his talent and he has built an attentive audience for his music. Native Magazine once credited him for flipping the script of breakout artistes in the Nigerian music industry. For the alternative music sensation, becoming a mainstream star now looks more like a matter of certainty than curiosity.

By amassing hundreds of thousands of followers across social media platforms and with a mass of devoted viewers for her skits, Maraji has become such a huge deal in the entertainment industry. She is building a following of fans whose ribs she cracks with her comical presentation of some of the society’s underlying happenings. Her business is an unconventional one, but it perfectly fits into the idea of creative exploration. Like Nonso Amadi, her steps can be traced back to the institution located in Ota, which has now become a training ground for society influencers.

Some of the major moves in the field of photography are been made by Emily Nkaga. The 22 year old photographer and filmmaker, has captured some memorable moments and documented scenes from top Nigerian entertainment events. The graduate of American University of Nigeria has hit her stride in the Nigerian creative sphere. Her brilliance has produced stand out art materials which she has turned into a social tool. She made a bold move with her photo-documentary of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in North-eastern Nigeria. The project got rave reviews and her intention to share the narrative of people displaced by Boko Haram attacks, has earned her several commendations. In 2014, she received Nigerian Teen Choice (NTC) Award for the most outstanding female in photography to attest to her prominence in the Nigerian creative industry.

Adenike Adegboye is another active player in this trend. The Babcock university graduate founded the popular ‘Demure by ‘Denike brand and her rich repertoire have caused her to occupy a leading position in her field – the field of fashion where the likes of Derin Febikun and Sandra Tubobereni are also shiny examples. These two brilliant fashion designers are products of the private university system. Each one of them heads a promising female fashion brand. Derin Fabikun was in fact nominated in the category of top female fashion designer at the 2016 ELOY awards, while Sandra Tubobereni (TUBO), a graduate of Madonna University, is a respected creative figure in the field of female fashion in Nigeria. Her clientele includes top female icons across different industries.

Interestingly, these creatives share some common traits. Asides from the fact that they were all born in the 90’s, a good number of them have been exposed to the best of creative operations and they often leverage on their exposure to make moves and decisions that eventually turn into a mass of success. Emily Nkanga for instance, interned with a top photography brand like Orbit Imagery where she was involved in several big projects before adding the experience of being mentored by ace talent manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe of The Zone Agency. At the point of setting out to fly her brand, Emily Nkanga had mastered the art of comprehension and cultivated thinking which she has employed repeatedly in her success journey.

Nonso Amadi spoke on what new age creatives need for exploration during an interview with Ndani TV. He highlighted funding, parental support and proper platforms as important factors in helping young creatives successfully explore their field. I believe proper platforms could also translate into exposure, which is a primary ingredient for creation. Although in the world of creatives, parental support is not always present. Creatives are often times misunderstood, especially at the early stages of their creative life. People often ask questions of their intention, their drive and their purpose for choosing to live a “weird” life.

Saul Alinsky gave an answer to these questions in his book, Rules of Radicals. He described creatives who reject the traditional life pattern; instead they have made resources out of the load of information and facts available in today’s world, to create a way of life that has some meaning to them. Troops of creatives, especially products of Nigerian private university, are opening new doors, breaking new grounds and reaching for new heights.

The clouds are gathering for the Nigerian creative industry. New elements are taking form and new grounds are being covered. A new class of creatives, who share a common trait, are earning the right to sit in driving positions to lead Nigeria to a future where art and invention is considered as important to the nation, as crude oil is today.

Health / 5 Personality Traits And How You Can Adopt One by magazineguy(m): 12:05pm On Jan 11, 2018
We all have different characteristics, attitudes and behaviours in us. It all matters if we are influenced by our environment or cultural belief.

Personality is the totality of a person. It is the physical attribute a person possess to contribute to the society. It deals with the essence of our being and our influence with the surroundings. Personality deals with the way we dress, talk, eat, relate with people. It involves our academic life, vocational aspirations and our inter personal relationships with others. It is defined as the set of habitual behaviours, cognition’s and emotional patterns that evolve from environmental and biological factors.

What really matters in our personality is the way we are able to use it to influence others, either in a positive or negative way.

There are people who are reserved, optimistic and smart; there are others who love entertainment and sports.
There are people who are smart, intelligent but rugged. All these are what personality entails.

There are many ways to measure personality, but psychologists have mostly given up on trying to divide humanity neatly into types. Instead, they focus on personality traits.
The most widely accepted of these traits are the Big Five:
-Openness

-Conscientiousness

-Extraversion

-Agreeableness

-Neuroticism

The Big Five were developed in the 1970s by two research teams. These teams were led by Paul Costa and Robert R. McCrae of the National Institutes of Health and Warren Norman and Lewis Goldberg of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the University of Oregon, according to scientific american.

The Big Five are the ingredients that make up each individual’s personality. A person might have a dash of openness, a lot of conscientiousness, an average amount of extraversion, plenty of agreeableness and almost no neuroticism at all. Or someone could be disagreeable, neurotic, introverted, conscientious and hardly open at all. Here’s what each trait entails:

Openness

Openness is shorthand for “openness to experience.” People who are high in openness enjoy adventure. They’re curious and appreciate art, imagination and new things. The motto of the open individual might be “variety is the spice of life.“
People low in openness are just the opposite: They prefer to stick to their habits, avoid new experiences and probably aren’t the most adventurous eaters. Changing personality is usually considered a tough process, but openness is a personality trait that’s been shown to be subject to change in adulthood.

Conscientiousness

People who are conscientious are organized and have a strong sense of duty. They’re dependable, disciplined and achievement-focused. You won’t find conscientious types jetting off on round-the-world journeys with only a backpack; they’re planners.
People low in conscientiousness are more spontaneous and freewheeling. They may tend toward carelessness. Conscientiousness is a helpful trait to have, as it has been linked to
achievement in school and on the job.

Extraversion

Extraversion versus introversion is possibly the most recognizable personality trait of the Big Five. The more extravert someone is, the more of a social butterfly they are. Extraverts are chatty, sociable and draw energy from crowds. They tend to be assertive and cheerful in their social interactions.

Introverts, on the other hand, need plenty of alone time, perhaps because their brains process social interaction differently. Introversion is often confused with shyness, but the two aren’t the same. Shyness implies a fear of social interactions or an inability to function socially. Introverts can be perfectly charming at parties — they just prefer solo or small-group activities.

Agreeableness

Agreeableness measures the extent of a person’s warmth and kindness. The more agreeable someone is, the more likely they are to be trusting, helpful and compassionate. Disagreeable people are cold and suspicious of others, and they’re less likely to cooperate.
Men who are high in agreeableness are judged to be better dancers than women. They are envious, which can lead to people being perceived as not agreeable, it was found to be the most common personality type out of the four studies by a report published in August 2016 in the journal Science Advances . Envious people feel threatened when someone else is more successful than they are.

Neuroticism

To understand neuroticism, look no further than George Costanza of the long-running sitcom “Seinfeld.” George is famous for his neuroses, which the show blames on his dysfunctional parents. He worries about everything, obsesses over germs and disease and once quits a job because his anxiety over not having access to a private bathroom is too overwhelming.

George may be high on the neuroticism scale, but the personality trait is real. People high in neuroticism worry frequently and easily slip into anxiety and depression. If all is going well, neurotic people tend to find things to worry about. One 2012 study found that when neurotic people with good salaries earned raises, the extra income actually made them less happy.
In contrast, people who are low in neuroticism tend to be emotionally stable and even-keeled. Unsurprisingly, neuroticism is linked with plenty of bad health outcomes. Neurotic people die younger than the emotionally stable, possibly because they turn to tobacco and alcohol to ease their nerves.

Possibly the creepiest fact about neuroticism, though, is that parasites can make you feel that way. And we’re not talking about the natural anxiety that might come with knowing that a tapeworm has made a home in your gut. Undetected infection by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii may make people more prone to neuroticism.

With several predictions here and there, one thing is certain for the Nigerian music industry in 2018 – it will be an interesting year for both mega and emerging artistes. Although the previous didn’t see the breakthrough of any artist in particular, 2018 promises to have loads of them and we are banking on these to steal the spotlight this year.

Based on their level of performances, acceptance and achievements, below is a list of artistes to watch in 2018;

Nonso Amadi

The Covenant University graduate came through with the self-produced hit single “Tonight”. The song gathered over a million YouTube views and his follow up songs such as Radio, Long Live the Queen and other singles have received positive reviews from fans across the world. He released an EP titled WAR with Odunsi The Engine in 2017 and scored a few other collaborations. He is definitely an act to watch out for.

Yovi

The LRR signee is another massive talent to watch out for in 2018. Signed by Reminisce in 2017, he dropped the mild hit Amen and followed up with the remix featuring Mayorkun and Lil Kesh. His second single, All For You was also well received. We await new materials from the talented dude this year.

Peruzzi

The For Your Pocket crooner was picked up by Davido’s DMW in 2017 after being credited for penning down lyrics to Davido’s mega smash hit “FALL” and “FIA”. The remix to For Your Pocket featuring Davido is gaining momentum on airwaves nationwide.

Dapo Turbuna

‘Eyan le blow any goddamn time’, with songs like Nothing and African Lady and a befitting remix to Nothing featuring YCEE and Olamide, Dapo Turbuna seems not to be in the industry to play. Armed with a wonderful voice and the Tinny Entertainment resources, he is definitely an act to watch out for in 2018.

Bella Alubo

Also signed to Tinny Entertainment, Bella Alubo is one diva to watch out for. With a unique voice, appealing looks and excellent lyrics and delivery as evidenced on Radio featuring YCEE and Kokoka feat Tinny mafia, it is crystal clear that Tiwa Savage and the rest should watch their back in 2018.

Davolee

After his verse on the smash hit, Pepper Dem featuring his label boss, Olamide, Davolee dropped Festival Bar, Cirocing and Oya Gbeff which all achieved moderate success. However, we expect more from the YBNL signee as he takes over the Yoruba rap scene in 2018.

Zlatan Ibile

One of the biggest single of 2017 was crafted by this wonderful guy. The rapper featured YBNL boss, Olamide to give us the club banger, My Body and the song became one of the songs that aided the spread of the shaku shaku dance. Definitely one act to watch out for in 2018.

Demmie Vee

Love Me Tender crooner and close associate of Oladips, Demmie Vee was one of the new acts that did exploits in 2017. With tracks like Awesome God ft TuBaba, Love Me Tender remix ft 9ice and Figure 8 which all achieved moderate success, we are in for a brilliant 2018 from the deep voice and melodious Demmie Vee.

Ckay

After the ground breaking podcast which had MI, Loose Kaynon and Osagie Alogie where Osagie asked who the f*** was Ckay, Ckay trended for some time in the entertainment circles and capitalize on the opportunity to drop an EP which was well received. With songs like Nkechi, Gaddemnit ft Dremo, Girlfriend ft Dice Ailes and many more, it’s safe to say that we would actually get to know Ckay better in 2018.

Teni the Entertainer

Following the viral video of her cover to one of Chief Osadebe songs, Teni went ahead to release Fargin produced by Mystro. With song writing credits to Davido’s hit single “Like That” and another buzzing song titled Pareke, the singer who is related to Afro house Niniola and also an affiliate of Shizzi has all it takes to rule the airwaves come 2018.

Junior Boy

Following the success of his single Irapada featuring 9ice and a shout out he got in Small Doctor’s mega smash hit Penalty, Junior Boy followed up with My Prayer and Bombay ft CDQ. However we expect more from the Junior Boy as he attempts to join his senior boys in the music industry.

Worthy mentions

Ahmed
After coming on stage at the Wizkid’s concert held on December 24th of 2017 and dropping heavy bars in the Yoruba language, he immediately got signed to Starboy entertainment and with a 10 million pledge to help his career, tell me how this is not an act to watch out for in 2018
