Health / 5 Do’s And Don’ts To Slow Or Reverse The Sign Of Aging by magazineguy(m): 12:52pm On Jul 26, 2018
As we grow older, our bodies begin to show the years of trauma that we have put them through. Our skin specifically, is prone to aging but thankfully, there are quite a few things that you have control over regarding the health of your skin.

Although you can’t change what you’ve done to your skin in the past, you can always start practicing healthy skin care routines today and in this article, you are going to learn 5 important do’s and don’ts that can slow or reverse the signs of aging to have you looking and feeling younger, for longer.

Do:
Drink a lot of water

Water is necessary for proper hydration. Without hydration, your skin can become cracked and dry. If you want your skin to glow and be clearer than ever, then you may need to up your water intake. As a general rule, every day you should be consuming at least 8 cups of water.

Use retinol creams

Retinol creams are a great way to reduce and potentially reverse the signs of aging. Retinol is essentially a Vitamin A derivative that works wonders on the skin increasing cell turnover, boosting collagen production and a host of other processes. Furthermore, retinol creams are very affordable and actually quite versatile, having many applications beyond anti-aging.

Consume lots of antioxidants

A diet that is rich in antioxidants is good for the skin because antioxidants help to fight free radicals in the body. A large concentration of free radicals in the body can increase signs of aging, and worse, lead to a long list of diseases and illnesses.

Foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids such as fish and nuts are also helpful for reducing the signs of aging.

Wear sunscreen

The sun has the power to do great damage to our skin if we are exposed for too long. In fact, one of the ways it does damage to the skin is by helping to create free radicals so always be sure to put sunscreen on when you go out in the sun, as it can prevent skin cancer and other serious complications.

Eat healthy

A healthy diet is a very important element in preventing the aging of your skin. Just as junk food does damage to your internal organs, your skin can be at great risk for complications if you don’t have a nutritious diet.

Don’t:
Forget to moisturize

Putting moisturizer on your skin is very important to ensure proper hydration. Regardless of the amount of water that you drink, harsh weather can dry out your skin. Always moisturize after showering or bathing.

Stress a lot

Numerous studies have shown that high stress levels are linked to skin and cellular aging. Learning to deal with stress is one of the more underrated pathways to sustainable beauty.

Stress management is sometimes easier said than done but a good place to start is identifying your stressors, and then removing them from your life. If they can’t be removed, try to employ some anti stress measures to counter the impact of the necessary stressors. Some anti stress measures include regular exercise and increased consumption of omega 3 fatty acids.

Overdo your skincare routine

The secret to healthy skin is not some intense skin care routine with twelve different products. Keep it simple and stick to one or two products. Also, don’t over-wash your skin as it can dry it out.

Pick at pimples

Poking at blemishes not only makes them irritated and redder, it also makes them spread. On top of that, picking at your face or skin can cause permanent scars.

Resist talking to a dermatologist

Dermatologists are here for a reason. If you are having problems regarding your skin or simply want some expert advice, consider visiting a dermatologist. They can also help to identify little things you may be doing in your daily routine that are speeding up your skin’s aging.

Fashion / 5 Reasons Why You Should Wear A Quality Weave by magazineguy(m): 11:28am On Jul 25, 2018
People often say that you can make something classy, even if it is cheap. Oh well to an extent. There are certain accessories you cannot but buy an original. Mind you, expensive or original is relative, but for the sake of this article I would say fiber wigs are a no no this time around. Have you ever wondered why you see your favourite celeb or just someone you admire looks simple yet classy as well? They pay attention to details. Things like how their skin glows, to proper defined brows, lashes, clean and tidy handbags and the hair. One can achieve a classy look if you just weave your hair with hair attachments for way less, but for weaves and wigs, you want it to look as natural and tidy as possible, which most of the time is out of the fiber lane. Fiber hair is a kind of synthetic hair that is affordable to everyone, it has grades, but they all end up twisting and do not last long. It is also a preference thing. For ladies who buy quality weaves or wigs in order to look fly and look even more beautiful, these are 5 reasons you shouldn’t stop.

CLASSY

Quality weave aka human hair gives a classy look, as the hair is flawless and soft. In Africa, some women do not have long and silky hair, so in order for the hair to look more natural, human hair is advised. Fashion has evolved so much that no one wants to be caught wearing fiber wig, as it gives a tacky, unkempt and cheap look.

STYLING MADE EASY

Another name for quality hair is styling made easy. Natural hair is supposed to be easy to style. Quality hair is easy to put together. It needs little or no combing and almost zero shedding. It styles effortlessly, thereby making the woman look extremely beautiful.

PONYTAIL AT ITS FINEST

Quality hair has another type of hair under their belt, it is called frontals, it comes in wigs and weaves, with this, ladies can have fun and play with different hair parting like side, all back and centre, hair looks like its gelled back. The hair can be packed and look extremely natural making it look like the hair grew out from the scalp.

TEXTURE ON POINT

Hair texture is so important as the more soft it looks, the softer, silkier and more beautiful the face is. No one wants to be caught with dry, hard fiber hair, this is not to knock anyone who is a lover of fiber hair if that is what you can afford well, make it happen for you. For quality hairs and wigs, it is easy to comb and gives a surreal texture that lifts the face, making the face look younger and appealing.

GOOD HAIR ALWAYS SHINES THROUGH

People can tell from a distance that one is wearing quality hair because it just shines, hardly need any oil, and it is attractive and speaks as big as your outfit.

Health / Simple Ways To Gain Healthy Weight by magazineguy(m): 12:31pm On Jul 24, 2018
We always hear weight loss stories but as a fitness trainer I get a lot of emails from people that struggle to gain weight. There’s a difference between just gaining weight and gaining healthy weight and you should always opt for healthy weight. You’re not trying to be ‘fat’ just bigger but still healthy.

And you can achieve this by adding and subtracting from your current diet. Yes, you can eat Nigerian food and still be healthy. The formula to gaining weight is simple – Increase your daily calorie intake. So eat about 300-500 more calories than you do a day.

Here are some ways to gain healthy weight when you’re underweight:

- Eat more frequently. When you’re underweight, you may feel full faster. Eat five to six smaller meals during the day rather than two or three large meals.
- Choose nutrient-rich foods. As part of an overall healthy diet, choose whole-grain breads, pastas and cereals, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, lean protein sources, nuts and seeds.
- Try smoothies and shakes. Don’t fill up on diet soda, coffee and other drinks with few calories and little nutritional value. Instead, drink smoothies or healthy shakes made with milk and fresh or frozen fruit and sprinkle in some ground flaxseed. In some cases, a liquid meal replacement may be recommended.
- Watch when you drink. Some people find that drinking fluids before meals blunts their appetite. In that case, it may be better to sip higher calorie beverages along with a meal or snack. For others, drinking 30 minutes after a meal, not with it, may work.
- Make every bite count. Snack on nuts, peanut butter, cheese, dried fruits and avocados. Have a bedtime snack, such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a wrap sandwich with avocado, sliced vegetables, and lean meat or cheese.
- Top it off. Add extras to your dishes for more calories — such as cheese in casseroles and scrambled eggs, and fat-free dried milk in soups and stews.
- Have an occasional treat. Even when you’re underweight, be mindful of excess sugar and fat. An occasional slice of pie with ice cream is OK but most treats should be healthy and provide nutrients in addition to calories. Granola bars are good choices, fruits make great snacks!
- Exercise. Exercise, especially strength training, can help you gain weight by building up your muscles. Exercise may also stimulate your appetite.
- This doesn’t mean go out and eat all the fast food and sweets you can get your hands on. Like I said earlier, your goal is to gain healthy weight and not fat.

Here are foods you should include in your next shopping list!

Protein sources:
Chicken breast – this is the leanest part of the chicken. It’s boneless and has a higher percentage of protein.
Fish – Tilapia, Salmon, Tuna or sardines are very high in protein. Every meal you take in should have at least 20-25% protein content.
Eggs – scramble your eggs instead of frying and if you must fry, use olive oil.

Carbs
Oatmeal
Yams
Sweet potatoes

Veggies – Broccoli, cucumbers, spinach, Brussels sprouts etc. Your meals should contain 70% vegetable, 25% protein and carbs.

Hope this helps!

Fashion / 5 Truths About Microblading; An Eyebrow Defining Method by magazineguy(m): 12:28pm On Jul 10, 2018
Where all my ladies at? If you are still sitting down, then you are missing out. Though some people are aware of this treatment, I will blow its trumpet even more. Microblading is an eyebrow defining method that gives a false look that you are actually wearing makeup on your brows, when you wake up slaying naturally. Microblading is the in thing as people opt for it rather than wax, thread or tweeze their brows. Bear in mind that trimming your brows is based on preference.

The process is more like a sharp inked pen used to draw out the perfect shape for the client. Right before that the brows are being brushed, trimmed either by waxing, razor, threading etc. a shape is being drawn out by an eye pencil, the sharp pen is being used to fill out that shape. It includes 2 sessions, and usually last for 2 years

For those that are still confused about how this thing called microblading works, here are some 5 truths about microblading

IT BEAUTIFIES

Semi permanent makeup has a way of making you wake up flawless and beautiful as it gives you a natural cool look.

MAKEUP IS DONE EASIER AND FASTER

Microblading saves you time from drawing your brows with pencil, as you could fix your powder and lip-gloss and you are out the door. Everyone knows doing eyebrows is a bit of a task, so having it done already is so refreshing.

POLISHING AT ITS PEAK

You know when you draw your eyebrows with pencil and it looks rough, artificial, or wrongly drawn, I guess every girl can relate to it. Although, practice makes perfect and there are still people who slay their brows with eye pencil, the percentage of people that get it right can be low sometimes, so why not take the easy and beautiful route.

IT SAVES MONEY

You heard that right. A lady who waxes, threads her eyebrows spends much more when calculated at the end of a year, although some microblading treatments are cheaper than some. Why not save your self-stress, money and look fly while doing that.

LOOK PUT TOGETHER; EYEBROWS ARE THE HIGHLIGHT OF MAKEUP

A well groomed brow is a killer anytime. Trust me a woman with good eye shadow application, lipstick, contour and highlight or maybe your blush game is strong and your eyebrow is ugly, and out of place. I tell you the whole make up is fruitless and a waste of time. DO A MICROBLADING TODAY AND THANK ME LATER!

Nairaland / General / How To Give Constructive Criticism Without Being Inconsiderate by magazineguy(m): 2:14pm On Jul 07, 2018
In one way or the other, either personal or professional life you will have to share your feedback considering people’s actions and how you feel they should have better handled those situations. Mastering the art is important to dealing with people. It shows that you care about their feelings, want them to improve and want the best out of certain situations.

Here are healthy steps to take to give constructive situations.

Compliments

Appreciate the individuals efforts to the situation then address areas you feel they fell short in and where you feel they could have done better. Using this method, the person recognizes the fact that you appreciate their effort and will be motivated to do better.

Focus on the situation and not the person

Focus on the situations the person is possibly able to find difficulty and address the issue of how they can turn the tables to favour them. For instance, you realize Temi in accounts has a problem with public speaking. You can advice that, it would be better to gather her words, understand the situation and use a story to lead. People are drawn to stories. If Temi is able to address an audience using personal experiences, she is able to win the crowd and be less tense.

Know When To Share Your Big Ideas

Now you have listened to Temi’s horrible presentation speech. So when and how do you tell her how poorly she did?

Knowing the time to address situations is key. Some people address issues they are not fine with immediately and some with time – when the iron is hot. The best possible time to talk to someone is minutes after. This is a time when they are settled and in a mind space where they are willing to receive and not defend their actions.

Using stories

In most situations, the best way to help someone be better is to share relatable stories of others. People are able to listen more and take criticisms when other peoples stories of defeat and conquer are shared with them.

Be More Positive

Let your feedback be filled will positivity. This leaves the individual with a stint of hope and a motive to do better.

Positive statements like this ; ‘I love how assertive you are but you should also be able to be open to the opinion of others.’ encourage people to do better.

Music/Radio / Meet Bode Blaq: The Rapper Who Is Taking Hip-hop With An Alternative Approach by magazineguy(m): 12:29pm On Jul 03, 2018
Now more than ever, there is an overwhelming influx of music. Like a Twitter user puts it; there are more musicians than listeners hence the need for artists to reinvent and take more innovative and experimental approach towards music making. Rising rapper Bode Blaq is fully aware of this reality and is taking the right steps towards providing music that surpasses the fence of stereotypes.

Although he began to professionally put out music a little over 365 days ago, the rapper began his musical journey in his secondary school days mimicking the likes of Tu Pac, Eminem and Lil Wayne. Bode’s artistic roots transcends music as the Ekiti state indegene is also a self-taught sketch artist and painter.

His musical style which he describes as alternative hip-hop is a fusion traditional hip-hop sounds with distinctive contemporary elements embellished gracefully with his local influences (the Nigerian pidgin and his local Yoruba dialect). With his masterful melodious low octave, the rapper touches on various social themes including; the yearn for money and success as well as street wisdom as seen on one of his recent releases “Balu” featuring rising indigenous rapper – Wale Turner.

Bode Blaq made his first offering in 2017 with a song titled “Worry Dem”. Although it was released to a relatively mild reception, the rapper made a second impression with discoquete “Party Animal” which grew to become a minor hit. 365 days after his debut, Bode has now built a discography of six songs with the most recent being “On Kpa”, a socially charged record that touches on the theme of “fake living” – a lifestyle that has been fuelled by the show-off ideology accompanied by social media.

With one song at a time, the rapper is making an imprint and slowly taking a walk unto the path of national accolades.

Business / Four Steps To Starting A Successful Business by magazineguy(m): 10:05am On Jul 02, 2018
Everything in life follows a step which can be logical or irrational. Entrepreneurs have dreams and they hardly ever stay for a moment without thinking of how to succeed at making their dreams come through. If you read about successful people or hear about them and their exploits, be informed that what it took them to reach the enviable height that seems extra-ordinary is following a logical step to success. Here are four ways to starting a successful business:

Start with generating an idea

An idea can come to you and seem stupid at first but when you begin to do some modification, it will become a good one. Ideas come from our understanding and identification of needs around us that are not met or unsatisfactorily met. A good entrepreneur must be capable of spotting opportunities and turning them into successful business by constantly generating and developing ideas.

Act

To act is to implement the ideas generated in the best realistic form. Most entrepreneurs seem foolish at the beginning of their business by enduring the uncertainty in entrepreneurship and ignoring discouraging factors and people. Set up a good location for your business or operate from any location that is convenient for your budget that you can safely transact business with your customers from.

Create the lead

Send the information out there to inform and get a larger group of people attracted to your business. The larger the crowd that is aware of your business offering the more likely your patronage will be high. When you are trying to generate leads, be brief but interesting and easily understandable with your content of communication.

Convert your leads to customers

When you have ignited the interest of your prospective customers, it is important you feed their curiosity and satisfy their anticipation beyond expectations.

Music/Radio / Importance Of A Musical Split Sheet In A Song by magazineguy(m): 9:40am On Jun 12, 2018
Have you as an artiste, musical producer, beat maker, talent manager or business manager and industry stakeholder come across the word ”split sheet” in your short or long term of years in the industry? I bet NO! as most Nigerian artistes never take out time to research out things. All they care about is performance fees better known as ”show money”. One can attest to this as the often heard phrase amongst our naija artistes is ”mr manager, get me shows nah”. In the just concluded entertainment law connect where publishing was discussed, a talent manager for over a decade by name Mr. Godwin Tom said that he has two A list artistes he has constantly been talking to about publishing and importance of split sheet but it always fruitless.

With that said, I bring to you a well researched and easy to understand article about split sheet starting from the meaning of publishing.

What is Publishing?
Publishing is a non-legal term that is used to refer to part of a collaborator’s copyright ownership in a song. The copyright in a song actually consists of two parts, a writer’s share (50%) and a publisher’s share (50%), but some people casually use the word to represent both shares.Unless otherwise agreed to by the collaborators, a copyright owner is free to do whatever he or she wants with his or her portion of the song, such as assign it to a publishing company. The primary benefit of owning part of a song is that it generates royalties and other income from single and album sales, radio play, music streaming, and licensing, which is why claiming your ownership of a song is so important.

What is a Publishing Split Sheet?
A “split sheet” is an agreement that identifies each producer and songwriter, and states the contributor’s ownership percentage. The split sheet should include other important information as well, such as the contributors’ performing rights organization (in Nigeria we got only COSON and MCSN who actually are at loggerheads currently), the specific contribution of each person (i.e., beats, melody, core lyrics, hook), and each person’s publisher information. Also, it should indicate whether different versions of the song were created. These details may not seem important in the early stages of creating a song, but a split sheet serves as evidence of copyright ownership and will assure a third party, such as a potential publisher that there are no disputes over splits.

A split sheet should be created for each and every song you write, before ever shopping it to a third party to be published commercially. If you’ve been in the music industry long enough, you’ve likely heard someone say, “I don’t like the business stuff because it gets in the way of my creativity.” Unfortunately, every day around the world, songwriters sit and collaborate on songs and never clarify who wrote what. As a matter of fact, they’re generally more concerned with copyrights than they are with song publishing, which baffles me because publishing is how they get paid. When it the time comes for your songs to be licensed, you’ll be fighting over who owns what percentage of the revenues generated from your intellectual property if you don’t have it down on paper.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see collaborating songwriters and producers make is failing to complete a simple split sheet because if the song becomes successful, which is the intent of all collaborations, then there is a risk that one of the contributors, or more likely his or her publisher, will claim that he or she should own a larger percentage of the song than originally assumed.

How Are Splits Typically Determined?
In concept, splits should be allocated according to a collaborator’s contribution to a song. Unfortunately, this is not a bright line concept because a contributor may believe that his or her contribution is more valuable to the final result than the other contributors may view it to be.

For example, if a song is divided up based on quantifiable measures, such as the lines of lyrics or music written, then a contributor who only wrote the hook to a song would only be entitled to about ten percent of the overall song.

The contributor who wrote the hook might not believe this method to be fair if the hook is frequently looped in the song and clearly raises the quality of the entire song, which is typical in hip hop. There are countless examples like this so the bottom line is that all of the contributors need to come to an agreement.

What Split Should I Receive?
The true answer to this question is the same answer that applies to all terms in music contracts, “it depends on the situation”. With that said, I have seen the following rules of thumb:

In urban music (hip-hop/contemporary rhythm & blues), a producer is typically going to receive 50% of the song, less any portion allocated to existing samples, because the music significantly contributes to the success of a song, and the songwriters will split the remaining part.

To warrant such a large share, an urban producer is expected to not only deliver a finished master, as opposed to just beats, but to also manage the project and sometimes mentor the artist.

In the rock and pop genres (and old school R&B for catalogue owners), a producer typically receives an equal share of all of the contributors based on the notion that the music and lyrics are equally important to the end result. Rock and pop producers are also expected to help make the song successful by using their connections with industry professionals. Lastly, in the jazz and classical genres, producers rarely receive any copyright ownership in a song.

With that been said, I hope you found this article really helpful to your career. Remember we now have attorneys specialized in entertainment law and media in the country. So wisely contact one today to draft a copy for you as you decide to protect your future earnings and intellectual property.

Music/Radio / Album Review: DJ Neptune – Greatness by magazineguy(m): 9:25am On Jun 09, 2018
The Disk jockey’s long-awaited and debut album is an ode to the credits of sounds DJ Neptune has harnessed and slick bangers but the features boast of gluttonism

Guests: M.I, Jesse Jagz, Burna Boy, Mayorkun, Niniola, Larry Gaga, CDQ, Olamide, Slimcase, Zoro, Reminisce, Kizz Daniel, Maleek Berry, Skales, Harmonize, Davido, Phyno, Small Doctor, Pasuma, Mr Real, Yemi Alade, Willy Paul, Efya, Patoranking, Runtown, Mr Eazi and C4 Pedro

Genre: Afro-pop, Afro beats, Urban Contemporary, Rap. Dancehall, Afro House

OVERALL RATING: 7.6/10

Since his emergence in the music industry and scratching the panels at major events and gigs across the country, no one would have imagined the man behind monstrous hits to have one album to his name after more than a decade in the industry.

DJ Neptune’s commercial prowess might not have been visible. Luckily, the golden era of social media just carved a new breeding ground to make fans hungry and expect more music from his unending rolls and archives.

DJ Neptune, a soft-focus, calm and blissful fellow, brimming with excitement on those mixers. He is the DJ that turn ups and paint gigs with colours of wildness, improving your mood. He showed that in his recently concluded listening session. Instead of shouting, DJ Neptune is always cool with stamping his name on his singles by the simple vocals of ‘DJ Neptune’ or ‘Neptune’. The album title ‘Greatness’ is clearly a tribute to his achievement. A whooping 15-song track list gives the judgment and expectation that is well-illuminated in the features.

Fortunately, much of that heart made it into Greatness, a bloated LP that’s full of many solid tracks with a shiny list of features – from M.I and Jesse Jagz to Davido and Phyno, name a big artiste and it’s probably here – that seem monumentally wired toward capturing the commercial and digital spheres.

On Blood & Fire, The Abaga brothers stayed on their known style – a low tempo spiced Jesse Jagz rhythmic flavor as opposed to M.I spitting his bars without remorse.

Burna Boy’s recently discovered efforts at road music was marked throughout the interval on Shayo, a tune which he used unknown and criss-crossed slangs.

Tear Rubber probably ear-marked Mayorkun’s proficiency we have seen on his past hits. DJ Neptune did not think twice. Mayorkun was impressive on the mid tempo love song, maintaining and changing keys, occasionally.

Niniola’s affiliation with Afro House was on point on Rolling, a genre which she has been known for since her inception in an industry that is not so diversified in terms of genres. The chords really remind me about ‘Maradona’. Her vocals were evergreen as compared to the freshest of harvests in the barn.

The acceptance Shaku Shaku received was not left out of this body of work as street promoters – Larry Gaga, Olamide, CDQ and Slimcase did justice to the juicy instrumentals of Shawa shawa.

Reminsce OG class brought out the best of Zoro on the hook of Friday as the two emcees traded classy and uncracked lyrical candy bars.

Kizz Daniel can be your usual cook at bangers but his style was sleek and was reformed on Wait as the production and vocals sparked cultural and ethnical offerings.

Maleek Berry’s ability to carry his vocals to a different world was all over My World
. The man is so emotional,

Skales and Harmonize were doing well until Skales lost it at the midpoint of the melody. I hope Harmonize gets to forgive this little flaw on Do like I do.

Secret Agenda, a highlight of this project was supposedly an Afro-pop tune which reduced Phyno to a soft artiste. Surprisingly, it’s still one of the best tunes.

Small Doctor, Pasuma and Mr Real drew a battle of the All-Yoruba and local clan tune Sisi and the trio was probably at the best except for Mr Real’s sudden low and unusual vocals. What could have happened?

Yemi Alade and Willy had their moment on the makossa laced tune and Willy Paul stole the moment and gave Yemi a run for her money on No body.

Efya and Patoranking’s double barrel attack on In a way was epic – A&R did their best here. The Rnb and fused dancehall was atoned to the glamorous vocals of the duo.

We listened to Why several times and we cannot deny the radio-friendly Runtown assisted track really made us happy as we bopped our heads to the melody’s rich embedded instrumentals.

Mia Mia is just that party song that DJ Neptune did in a rush by enlisting Mr Eazi as a first artiste and was retouched by laying Pedro’s vocals on the verses. It’s still lovable.

To that end, Greatness has been very successful – still there – still out there on the digital charts. It has produced mega hits, three of which are indeed album standouts: “Wait”, with Kizz Daniel laying his addictive vocals on it, the shaku shaku inspired “Shawa shawa” which featured Larry Gaga, Olamide, CDQ and Slimcase; the blood-is-thicker-than-water duo M.I and Jesse Jagz on “Blood and Fire

Music/Radio / Between Show Money Vs. Streaming Money by magazineguy(m): 11:30am On Jun 05, 2018
This is an interesting article comparing live revenue to streaming music revenue. It also compares the current era vs. “the old days,” which were really only about 10-15 years ago. Read this quote:

The reason the Weeknds of the world and the Drakes of the world are exploding is a combination of a global audience that’s consuming them freely at a young age [and that] they just keep dropping music…They’re delivering an ongoing, engaged dialogue with their fan base.” Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino

However, the article states, there may be limits to the growth of the live music industry. It comments on the 2016 revenues of Live Nation, America’s biggest event promoter. Live music is not a growth industry anymore. It has matured and its gains come more from higher ticket prices now than incrementally more tickets sold.

So if streaming is on the rise, and it is, can recorded music catch up? Can the old model of live music promoting the recordings, as opposed to the opposite current model, return? Probably not. Streaming rates are still too low. And not enough people are subscribing. The numbers are going up, fast. But, in a separate article, more subscribers do not necessarily mean more money for artists (both writers and those who play on the recordings).

Some folks in the industry still say we’re in the Wild West of a new paradigm. Maybe. Or maybe the west was already won by the lords who came up with the original per-stream rates. From an artist perspective, why would you expect anyone to offer to pay you more? “Just because” doesn’t work here.

Business / Three Simple Goals Every Entrepreneur Should Have by magazineguy(m): 7:51am On Jun 05, 2018
Starting and running a successful business requires commitment to set goals, goals are specific things we set out to achieve. An entrepreneur always works to achieve success, overcome failures and beat the challenges of running business. In setting goals, we must learn to set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound) goals. Achieving goals demands hard work and strategies, success happens when we push ourselves towards achieving it. Achieving these goals sometimes requires falling and rising, an entrepreneur must not give in to failures as rightly said in the words of Richard Branson, an entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Atlantic “if you are hurt, lick your wounds and get up again. If you have given it your absolute best, it’s time to move to move forward.”

Three goals that entrepreneur should set are:

Establishing a successful business: Having and running successful business is what make a great entrepreneur, when business goals are being designed, what should come first is the establishment of a thriving business. This goal can ignite motivation, drive and creativity that will be duly channeled towards success.

All time customer satisfaction: Customers are the blood of every business; businesses that neglect their customers are bound to go moribund sooner or later. The secret of most successful business lies in how they attract and retain their customers. An entrepreneur whose major interest and goal lie in satisfying his customers will find business easier compared to one who neglects his customers. Efforts are being channeled by businesses to render the best of services to their customers and potential customers globally in order to increase their competitiveness and market share.

Attaining the business’s vision: Every business is set up with a mission and a vision, while the mission defines what the business sets out to do and how it does it, the vision reveals it future and where it intends to stand in the nearest time to come. An entrepreneur should strive to meet the vision of its business in due time.

Music/Radio / 9 Nigerian Music Influenced Slangs And Their Meanings by magazineguy(m): 4:22pm On Jun 01, 2018
Nigerians are known to be pioneers of words, sayings and slangs. Not liable to be used in the wrong quarters, they are often used to shorten conversations and suitable among cliques and peers, alike. The origin of most of these argots can be traced to lines, verses or hooks of hit songs. Truly, we have heard some that their meanings have not been deciphered or they might never get to see daylight in couple of years. The growth and the pace of the Industry determines the longevity of some of these slangs. Often, the emergence of new artistes and talents has tendencies to influence the popularity of these slangs. Based on popularity, some of these slangs are:

Maga

This one in particular, cannot be traced to the music backgrounds but often times, we have heard it in countless records. It’s a common Nigerian slang that is mostly used by musicians to mean ‘to extort’, especially money. Artistes like Davido, Psquare and Timaya have used this in past songs.

Mugu

Asides, the synonymity with Maga, it has a different conceptual information and deeper meaning. Although, it could be offensive to some folks but what’s the fun in using slangs if it throws you off your seat? Mugu means ‘fool’ or ‘of a dumb person’. Love songs written or sang in pidgin contain this slang. Listen to Wizkid and Psquare songs from 2010.

Jonse/Jonze

Nigerians use this frequently. It means ‘to fail’ or ‘hit a stumbling block’ in pursuit of an endeavour. It is really funny when used in the right moment, especially in the midst of cliques. It originated from ‘Jonzing world’, a song by Mavin artiste, D’Prince which featured Wizkid and Jesse Jagz. Ever since, the coined version ‘jonze/jonse’ has been in use.

Legbegbe

‘Legbegbe’ was one of the songs that ushered us into the shaku-shaku rub era. Though, it was inspired from Seun Egbegbe’s iphone theft case of 2017, the record ended up as one of the greatest records ever from Nigeria. Legbegbe (Egbe egbe) is a yoruba word that means ‘side by side’. Legbegbe is a street banger by Mr. Real and it featured Idowest, Obadice and Kelvin Chuks. On the hook, Real self goes ‘Oya e fun won Legbegbe, iphone 1, iphone 2……’ .

Shepeteri

Another word that got birthed from the Shaku shaku era was ‘Shepeteri’ (from record ‘Omo shepeteri’). Omo shepteri means ‘a bad child’, especially when deviation from morals/moral decadence is involved. Omo Shepeteri belongs to Idowest and Slimcase.

Science student

Science students got attention from the W.H.O, Nigerian Government and even the broadcasting body, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). Olamide did not enjoy those few weeks of pressure and blames lashed on him (Blame it on the way he delivers his songs, all for the sake of creativity). ‘Science student’ is associated with illegal drugs – cannabis, raphenol, codeine, falcka e.t.c .

Owu

Owu has different origins, especially the one from a Nigerian Literature book ‘Women of Owu’. Owu has been violated by our artistes and occasionally used in their contents. Burna Boy used in his song ‘Check and balance’; Olamide also used it in his rap song ‘Owo blow’. Owu means ‘state being broke’

Omo Wobe

Olamide, once again is pointed at again for pioneering one of the Nigerian slangs. His influence in the streets is as credible as his hits songs. Omo wobe has a controversial meaning – ‘folks that smoke marijuana’. In his popular tune ‘Bobo’, Olamide could be heard on the intro calling, ‘Eyin Omo wobe(wobe), won gbo informaion……’. He even made the sishing smoking sounds.

Osha pra pra

A large chunk of the credit might have gotten to Yovi but we should not leave out the other artistes that infused ‘osha pra pra’ in their songs. ‘Osha pra pra’ means ‘fresh’, ‘clean’ or ‘to look good’. Ask any Lagos folk.

Fashion / 5 Types Of Colours That Shows A Man Is Confident by magazineguy(m): 2:46pm On May 29, 2018
Colours speak to us as well as to other people about our personality. Colours speak about our mood and our overall well-being. People seem to know in a twinkle of an eye the kind of colours men are associated with, but you can’t say too much about that, especially because fashion is evolving every day and people are becoming more creative. Who wants a man known to wear basic colours? Not saying be a clown but I mean sometimes step out of your comfort zone. Be stylish, unique, daring and confident.

These are the 5 colours for the confident man

BLACK

This colour is commonly worn by men, but are they wearing it rightly, do they have the carriage to carry that colour? Black is one of the hottest colour for men no doubt, although depends on preference. Black stands for sophistication and confidence. Even a shy man that puts on black becomes confident and daring. Remember to wear the clothes and do not let the clothes wear you.

YELLOW

This is another stylish colour for the confident and fashionable man because it is rare, and is not worn by the faint hearted. Bear in mind that you should wear the yellow that best suits your skin tone. Yellow ranges from Lemon, Pantone, Munsell, Cray, Unmellow, Canary yellow and Psychological primary yellow. A confident man will wear yellow as a T-shirt with or without a jacket, a pocket square in a suit, a pair of trouser paired with a black shirt or a dark brown shirt. For the very adventurous men, he could pair with a red shirt or another shade of yellow as a shirt.

RED

This is being worn by so many men nowadays, starting from shoes. In the past we had more of black and brown shoes but now men wear red shoes probably matching with a red shirt or wristwatch. I dare say if I come across any man like that he is sure not regular in fashion because he wants to stand out and make a statement. Red is a bold and confident colour, also not for the faint hearted. It goes perfectly with white and black, but pair according to preference.

BLUE

This colour is associated with authority, kingship and royalty. It is a daring and classy colour and is definitely for the confident man. Blue has an array of shades ranging from Sky blue, Ocean blue, Azure blue, Turquoise blue, NYPD blue, Navy blue, Presidential blue and so many others. The popular ones people play around with is sky blue, royal blue and navy blue. Blue is perfect for shirts and jackets. There are blue suits too, let’s say you want to make an entrance to that big event, you can definitely pair a navy blue suit with red shoes. The royal and navy blue could be paired with black or brown shoes. Whatever the combination is, check skin tone, type of event and type of clothing.

GREEN

This is a rare colour for Men as most men will shy away from this colour, but the stylish man is not going anywhere as he loves to stand out. A stylish and confident man knows how to pair appropriately so nothing to fear. There are different shades of green, some are lighter and some are brighter. Being a distinct colour, the daring man will wear a green wristwatch, green tie or inner shirt for suit, green T- shirt or a pair of green shoes, paired with a darker colour at the top. Fashion is creativity, so it’s explorable.

Business / Six Ways To Grow Entrepreneurship In Nigeria by magazineguy(m): 10:43am On May 28, 2018
Nigerians are very hardworking group of people especially the youths. A lot of them have worked very hard and their achievements have planted great sense of pride in our hearts. Names of those who have taken their crafts to great heights are too numerous to mention, they have excelled greatly in areas such as I.C.T, food processing, small scale manufacturing, fashion, science and technological innovations, arts and entertainment, media and journalism, sports etc. These successful youths are role models whose success can be emulated by others through effective promotion of entrepreneurship, a few ways to carry this out are:

Practical learning

Entrepreneurship knowledge should be properly developed and the teaching should employ a more practical approach to encouraging novelty and perfection in product or service development.

A more encouraging environment

An atmosphere that inspires entrepreneurship should be created with the support of schools, government and private organizations through mentoring and funding.

Increase networking

Platforms that encourage networking opportunities and exchange of ideas should be encouraged. Regular meet ups, summits and conferences by entrepreneurs will increase exchange of ideas leading to better business skills and enhance the overall economy of the nation.

Encourage collaborations

When collaboration between individuals, states are high, production will increase and when the collaboration is extended to other countries, export of the commodities or services will also increase, this will in turn better the balance of payment of the country.

Standard and quality control

Consumers satisfaction should be the ultimate goal, emphasis should be placed on standard in order to ensure sustainability of investments. A country where standard of production is not a priority easily loses ground in international trade.

Equip and update skill hubs

Hubs where vocational skills are taught should be equipped and updated with modern tools and competence in order to ensure that outputs conform with internationally accepted standard.

Fashion / 5 Tips On How To Do A Pedicure At Home by magazineguy(m): 5:29pm On May 24, 2018
Are we not all tired of giving excuses for moving about with dirty feet, excuses like it’s too expensive to do a pedicure, well I have good news for you. You can keep those feet clean for cheap in the comfort of your home, your own way. If you must know, keeping a clean, pretty and sweet smelling foot is a woman’s fashion accessory. Yes, because your feet will be looked at and accessed like your cloths. No escape and no excuses. Why not save yourself the embarrassment of not getting that business deal, and haven’t you heard of the saying that ‘looking good is good business’. It sure is, because in whatever profession you are, looking well and clean makes you more approachable and more successful in that field. Yes I said so.

Take a ride with me as I give you 5 magical tips on how to do a pedicure at home

• Make sure you have a bowl of warm water handy, you do not have to own the pedicure machine if you cannot afford it. In your warm water you can add you favourite disinfectant and liquid soap or shampoo. On the side, make sure you have trimmed, filed and buffed your toe nails. Rub cuticle oil on the toe nails then put those legs in the water; soak for few minutes, according to your preference. Least should be 10 minutes.

• Pull your leg gently from the water. Use the cuticle trimmer to clean out the dirt from the sides of the toe nails and use the other side of the cuticle trimmer to push back the sides of the toe nails.Make sure you have your razor blade handy or the professional callus shaver. These two help to remove callus, dirt, corns and cracked feet. Your pedicure is not complete without this process. Most spas prefer to use the callus shaver than the razor because it has a handle that makes it easier to scrape, plus a special blade perfectly placed to scrape the feet with ease.

• After both feet have been scraped and feet looking clean and fresh, if you notice,it will still be rough , then you grab your pumice stone, it actually looks like a stone, scrub your feet to smoothness, followed by the foot file to perfect the job.

• Get your favourite foot scrub, scrub your feet with your hand, since the foot scrub already has a hard consistency. Rinse the foot and finish up with the nail scrubber, which is a tiny brush that cleans the nails deeper than just the warm water and soap, and areas that have dirt that are hard to reach, rinse properly several times and towel dry.

• Use your favourite moisturizer and you can put any kind of nail polish if you please. Bear in mind that you can be creative with how you want to do your pedicure and play around with the steps, as this is totally up to you, as long as you get the job done. See you at the team clean feet camp.

Fashion / 5 Fashionable Nail Shapes Perfect For A Lady by magazineguy(m): 3:14pm On May 18, 2018
Nails are one of ladies fashion accessory. Nails speak volumes about your personality, style and class. Dirty nails will scream a lady that is unkempt; clean, tidy and beautiful nails screams class, and a lady who is put together. Who doesn’t want to keep flaunting their nails unnecessarily, touching their hair or face? A girl should know how to take care of her nails; it’s your body and going to be with you for a long time. Choosing the perfect nail shape will depend on your preference, style, personality and probably event of the day. Below are some nail shapes that are trendy right now.

Round shape

This is one popular nail shape that is curved in a round form. It is simple and classy but for the ones that have cool and simple personalities because it is usually short and has a natural look to it. If you want to look low-key beautiful with nails that can fit into any occasion, these nails are your best option

Square shape

This is another nail shape that is classy and in-between low key and sharp. It is still appropriate for all occasions and can be worn either long or short depending on preference. It has a natural look to it.

Oval shape

This shape is very pretty and is a refined form of the round nails being a longer form of round nails. For those that want to look trendy, girly and nice. These nails are definitely the one to go for. It is one to wear for all occasions. It is better done short or medium length for a more natural look.

Ballerina shape

This type of nail is the current obsession by most ladies. It is usually long, has a swollen shape at the surface and has a small square shape at the tips – it is not a full square nails. It is definitely classy, if you want a more corporate look, I will not advice you to go for this shape of nails, although it can be done short, it has an extravagant, over the top look but If you want to make a statement, by all means jump in. It is sure one beautiful shape to consider.

Stiletto shape

This is another over the top nails and is also known as pointy nails. The mouths are usually sharp like pencil and can be worn by people who are not simple people, people who are adventurous, daring and people who have a washing machine in their house because they will not be able to wash with the nails. It is usually long in nature to expose the real shape of the nails and most definitely not for the work place. What can I say if you can still pull it off in your workplace, I am not mad at you.

But all in all, confidence is the key; look for the one that best suits your personality and rock it well. Do not say you want to follow trend and you goof. Make sure you are comfortable with any choice that you make.

Music/Radio / 5 Ways To Market Your Music To New Fans by magazineguy(m): 10:56am On May 14, 2018
Building a fan base for your music is often the hardest obstacle to overcome as an independent artist. As artists, we tend to feel that the music should speak for itself, but that leads to an endless cycle of us releasing music and getting no response. Learning how to promote your music is the best thing you can do to build your career without having to worry about pitching music industry gatekeepers. Here are five strategies you can use to market your music and get more fans.

1. Live Shows – Your live show is by far the easiest way to connect with potential fans. They get to hear your music AND learn about your personality. If you make a good impression, you can also make a lifelong fan.

2. Video – Video is King on nearly every platform right now. Social Media sites are rewarding compelling visuals by boosting their visibility on the platforms without charging extra. It’s a great way to expand your reach without having to spend a lot of money. If you’re consistent, you’ll see your audience rise month after month.

3. Collaborations & Brand Partnerships – The easiest way to build your audience? Sharing someone else’s. Find artists, bands and other businesses that complement yours, and ask how you can help them out in a way that gains you visibility. Your networking skills are key to making this work.

4. Social Media – Social Media is great because there are already audiences there. The key is to learn what types of people may be interested in your music, and meet them where they are. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or YouTube, it is important that you give fans a view into who you really are. Don’t try to be too professional or polished. Engage with your audience, and promote yourself when it’s appropriate.

5. Paid Advertising – Now that you’ve used Social Media insights to learn more about the people who love your music, you can put money into an advertising campaign that will get you even more results. The great thing about online ads is that you can laser-target your intended audience and get major returns. Just be sure you know who your target is before you start spending, because it is easy to lose money on people that aren’t interested.

Art, Graphics & Video / Meet Anthonia Nneji Chinasa: Painting Her Way To History by magazineguy(m): 11:57am On May 10, 2018
‘I have never signed up for an office job in my life. I don’t even know how to write a CV. Painting is what I do full-time.’ Anthonia Nneji Chinasa struck a chord when she had those words to say about her art. While the Nigerian creative space is welcoming new creatives, most of whose hands were forced to create by the increasingly narrow path to office employment; Anthonia is an outlier who never used the thought to put aside her art for a salary-paying job.

To Anthonia Nneji, art is a calling, a path laid down by her paternal forebears whose carving skills manifested in her in the form of painting and she has submitted herself in totality to its summon like a new bride submits to her husband on the night of consummation – her passion, desires and resources given to the process of painting the world in new colours and shades.

Her early experience of art started in elementary school where crayons were the only paints available and 2C drawing books were introduced to her as canvas on which she painted pictures of the man sitting under the palm tree and the lady walking down the river path with her clay pot sitting guided on her head. In her class exercises, she excelled and her paintings usually came out as recognisable art from the imaginative view of a youngling.

Her painting skills improved with her commitment to practise, so also her lens of imagination broadened as she saw more of life’s experiences. From painting characters from her Macmillan books, she started to see the world in a new light, using her art works to express the abstracts in her imaginations and reproduce images in which she took keen interest.

When it was time to make decisions about her tertiary education, she looked to the four walls of the University of Lagos and headed straight for the department of Creative Art which lead her to work under one of the country’s most-skilled painters, Mr. Wallace Ejoh, at the Universal Studio of Arts where she was inspired by Mr. Wallace’s paintings like “the good neighbour.” The renowned impressionist visual artist soon took her as one of his fave tutees and under his guidance her talent matured. Anthonia learnt to brighten her eye for colours and with measured strokes she painted abstracts to life as she commenced her journey as a professional visual artist.

All of these were happening at a time when even the best advisors sounded warnings like “art is a hobby and not a profession, so artists do not get paid much here. Art & aesthetics are luxuries in this part of the world.” But like the doubts of Thomas, the ominous advises started to disappear when she sold all her materials at her very first exhibition –achieving the Holy Grail for painters.

But to Anthonia, art is more than just a thing to be bought and kept. In her hand, it is a social tool for imparting values and emitting cultural essences that improves life’s qualities, particularly the appreciation and respect of women, the specifics of their gender and the concomitant challenges they face. Anthonia Nneji has given herself to art and allowed herself to be used as a vessel in painting the intricacies of the world in the way that great artists of history have done.

Meet Lola Daniyan, founder of Unraveling Nigeria, one of the tour companies at the forefront of the efforts to revive Nigerian local tourism. For years, the local travel scene in Nigeria was as good as dead, with most travelers preferring to travel abroad over visiting local destinations. Concerted efforts by tour companies like Unraveling Nigeria have led to the recent rise of interest in local tourism among Nigerians. Curated trips to destinations like Idanre hills (Ondo State), Obudu Cattle Ranch (Cross River State) and Kajuru Castle (Kaduna State) have now become commonplace.

Born in 1989, Lola Daniyan is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Greenwich, England, and holds a post graduate degree in Marketing from the London School of Business and Finance. Lola is a travel blogger, and a travel curator, creating amazing travel experiences within Nigeria.

Unraveling Nigeria was born out of Lola’s need to explore Nigeria’s tourism potential. Growing significantly since its inception in 2014, the brand has evolved from just highlighting tourist attractions to showcasing the Nigerian people and their cultures. Lola believes that tourism is all encompassing, and that it is not just enough to visit a place, one must learn about its people and cultures too. Operations carried out by Unraveling Nigeria include curated private and public trips, and publication of articles on tourism and culture in Nigeria.

Lola who has always loved traveling developed the idea for Unraveling Nigeria while in England with her family. They had visited Buckingham Palace and she was stunned by the amount of people trying to visit and take pictures in front of the palace. She wondered why people didn’t visit the several palaces back in Nigeria in that same manner. This led her into opening the Unraveling Nigeria blog as a site for reviewing places of interests in Nigeria, before expanding into travel curation.

Traveling conditions in Nigeria are still far from perfect and during her work, Lola has been faced with several difficulties ranging from car breakdowns, language barriers, and resistance from immigration officials. With the travel industry still far from being fully formed, Lola also faces industry logistics related difficulties like insufficient information and unreliable vendors. However, it is also exciting for her to watch the industry grow and constantly evolve.

For Lola, the best part of being a travel curator is witnessing the joy people feel when they explore new places, while the best part of being a travel blogger is sharing knowledge about places or cultures people knew little or nothing about. Lola holds a full-time job in marketing and digital media and despite the difficulty she sometimes faces combining both, she makes use of her break times and vacation days to handle her personal business. She enjoys traveling because it allows her meet people whom she learns new things from and it reminds her that the world is so much more than her little corner.

With a lot of new players springing up on the travel curation scene, Lola ensures that Unraveling Nigeria remains at the forefront by applying a unique and creative spin to her work that ensures she stands out and delivers value for money. Unraveling Nigeria has curated trips to several Nigerian states including Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Lagos States.

Lola is working to make Unraveling Nigeria the hub for all things tourism related in Nigeria and hopes to expand outside Nigeria in time. In ten years, Lola sees herself heading a brand of international standards that puts Nigeria at the forefront of tourism in the world.

Business / How To Avoid Tax Troubles In Nigeria by magazineguy(m): 2:14pm On May 04, 2018
Do you have a Limited Liability Company registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) that you do not use?

Do you have a bank account for that company?

I have an advice for you.

Stop Using The Account For Personal Money Transactions.

You know why? Very soon, the Federal Inland Revenue Service will knock on your door for tax returns. They will ask you for your financial accounts and carry out an audit on your company. They will ask you for proof of your VAT remittance. If you say your business is not active, they will not believe you because they can see movement of money in your account. Very soon, tax officials will trace all corporate bank accounts using Bank Verification Number (BVN) to the owners.

Even if you have an active business, it still makes sense to avoid using your corporate bank account for personal transactions because those transactions will be assumed as business income by the tax man. The onus on you is to prove it is personal. How do you prove it? It will be hard.

What is the way out?

The answer is obvious. Stop using it for personal transactions. If you have a corporate account but the business is not active, there is no need to open a bank account for it yet. If your uncle wants to send you money to buy a car for yourself, receive it with your personal account. With personal accounts, you do not need to worry about FIRS. You only have to worry about your personal income tax which you will be paying to your state’s Internal Revenue Service.

If you absolutely want a corporate account, why don’t you register a business name with the CAC? A business name is viewed like an individual and your liability is not limited. With a business name, you deal with your state’s Internal Revenue Service. Register it with just your name as sole owner and you can use your personal Tax Identification Number (TIN) as the company’s TIN.

This will save you a lot of trouble in future. All you need to do is ensure you are up to date with your personal income tax in your state of residence.

Fashion / 5 Ways To Wear The Ankara Print by magazineguy(m): 2:34pm On May 01, 2018
Who doesn’t have a pair or 2 of an Ankara material in their wardrobe? It is one of Nigerians best print when it comes to design; it is durable, comfortable, light and affordable. It can be worn to various occasions unlike the Adire or Asooke prints. The asooke prints are heavy materials with heavy beaded designs and are usually used for weddings. It will interest you to know that it did not originate from Africa but Europe, particularly Netherlands, although the prints were being altered here in Africa but not the fabric. It has beautiful designs and colours which need fewer accessories and at the same time makes you look very fashionable.

Ankara is celebrated all over Africa and Nigeria, and is loved by many people. If you want to cause a stare at the event you are looking forward to attending or create unique ways of wearing your Ankara, here are 5 ways to wear the Ankara-print. In all these, body type needs to be put into consideration.

THE CLASSY LOOK

Ankara can be worn in a classy way to the office. Did that surprise you? Most people in offices are used to wearing Ankara on Fridays but you are wrong, Ankara can be sewn into a wrap blouse, pencil skirt with a plain shirt, jumpsuit or trouser suit with a plain tank top worn inside. All these depend on where the person works, but can it be worn to the office on a Monday? YES INDEED.

THE CASUAL LOOK

Casual look is definitely in, as you can see a lot of young ladies do the Ankara wrap skirt with hills and a tank top. Some go with a simple straight dress with short sleeves or shorts for the beach and shirt dress. However way you view casual, you can count on it..

THE ELEGANT LOOK

Did somebody say dinner date or event? You guessed right. Ankara can be styled elegantly as it can be sewn into a ball gown, long flowing gown or as an off shoulder dress or one armed dress. Lace and other kind of materials can be added to give colour and glam to the outfit. It can also be worn as a straight gown to events with plain shoes and a lovely purse.

BEACH WEAR LOOK

Imagine the beautiful sight of Ankara in swim wear. Yes, very beautiful and attractive. Ankara is touching almost every phase of fashion. What other better way to choose a swim wear other than the Ankara-print one. Fashion designers like Andrea Iyamah and Oloriswim have followed this trend and are doing it well.

BRACELETS AND NECK PIECES

In case you do not want to wear the dress, or like the comfortable life of jeans and T-SHIRTS, there is another option for you. You can style your simple and casual look of jeans and T- shirts with Ankara bracelet or necklaces. This is not commonly worn by some people except the daring fashionistas, which want to turn heads in an event or be unique. This is in every way is stylish and I will ask that women can incorporate this in their outfits.

Celebrities / 'As A Masters Holder, I Felt The Need To Encourage Young People' - Frank Donga by magazineguy(m): 9:27am On Apr 30, 2018
The pride of having trained by a former Vice-President of CNN and having ones’ works featured on BBC as an insignia on ones résumé seems like enough pointer to the conclusion that one has ‘blown’, especially in a country like Nigeria where two in every five youths are without a job. Kunle Idowu had a rare old time of learning at a revered organisation such as CNN and the uncommon experiences of working as reporter, News Anchor and Assignment Editor for Network News 24 (NN24- a CNN affiliate) and resuming daily at the Television Continental (TVC) office for a job as a Promos Producer. While these jobs attracted pride, good pay and ultimately put him in a comfortable place, the road to his fulfilment led elsewhere – to the discovery place of the ‘Frank Donga’ character.

It started out of curiosity about the intricacies of the Nigerian society which is particularly plague with the problem of unemployment. This black spot turned out to be the light for Kunle Idowu to create a platform for an audience of Nigerian youths to learn to improve the quality of their lives from watching the foolery of Frank Donga, a character in a popular comedy series on Ndani TV, titled ‘The Interview.’

“Frank Donga is a character that you see in the TV series, is what I’d like to imagine as a victim of a poor educational system and a difficult job market. Frank constantly attends job interviews without much success. The character was borne (almost accidentally while making some friend laugh) out of the fact that over the over the course of the years I’ve seen so many young people who didn’t quite get the jobs that they longed for or the opportunities that they wanted. I suspected that the primary reason is that too many young people are either too timid or battling low self-esteem or are just not prepared for such interviews. I felt that there’s a need for someone to encourage young people to stand with their heads high“, he said.

Celebrities / ‘I Settled For Arts After Five Attempts To Study Medicine’ – Wofai by magazineguy(m): 7:12am On Apr 25, 2018
Me: How did it all start for you – comedy, acting and show presenting?

Wofai: Oh it all started in 1923 when the world was bored and the Lord said Wofai, go into the world and make people smile again.

Her response sounded innocent and authentic until it occurred to me that someone born in 1923 cannot maintain such youthful appearance and her sporty spirit. It then dawn on me that I was having a chat with a lady who leverages on sarcasm and the thrills of a rich sense of humour.

Just as the smile evoked by her sarcasm was starting to disappear, she said, “Nothing was deliberate. One thing led to another, I started making Instagram skits and I noticed my following grew with each new post, so I continued and so did the growth.”

Commonly told is the tale of how she moved from hawking fruits and second-hand clothes on the streets to becoming a celebrated comedienne whose Instagram skits command a viewership of about the attendance size of a match between Manchester United and Liverpool – a congregation of thousands of viewers seeking amusement and each new post on her page is almost like she is hosting a live event.

In these stories, the first series of Instagram skits she posted are referenced as the rising of her horizon but her stars really started to aligned at her point of entry into the tertiary institution when she docilely accepted the option of fate to settle to study Arts & Theatre in the University of Calabar, after five previous attempts at seeking admission to study Medicine & Surgery.

In the ‘dry land’, Wofai Fada found for herself, running water. Arts & Theatre was supposed to be the link road to her main lane but it ushered her to the path she would later manifest – the path Drake would say is ‘God’s Plan’ for her. Wofai coursed through school even though her hustle spirit had her knocking on other doors, of which the door to making ‘Instagram comedy’ would later open up to her.

For Wofai, her success needed no master plan; all she had to do was make some smart decisions like her decision to use Instagram as a portal of expression. She said, “a lot of people are on Instagram but how you use it determines what you get from it. Some people go on Instagram to sniff into the affair of other people and drop negative comments but I use Instagram as a window through which I view the world outside and one through which my craft can be seen.”

But skits and comic materials are only a means to an end for Wofai whose guiding principle tallies with that of Billy Wilder who said “if you are going to tell people the truth, be funny or they’ll kill you.” Impacting lives and influencing the world are part of her ministry even though her approach is rather subtle and jocular. Her skits are unmistakably amusing but they communicate values and ideals.

Wofai is known to be selective with her content which shows that she understands her position as a social media influencer. “Yes I have some influence over the thoughts of Nigerian youths especially those in tertiary institutions, because a lot of these people look up to me. These people know my story and they know where I am coming from. I’m not aiming to make people laugh alone but to educate as well.”

More of her influence is exercised in her entrepreneurial adventure of selling the popular Calabar traditional delicacy ‘Afang’ under the brand name, Just Afang. An idea she has brought to life and has been flourishing with the patronage of natives of Eastern Nigerian origin living in Lagos who crave the taste of home – a craving is helping Wofai them satisfy with her Just Afang initiative.

Describing Wofai as a serial entrepreneur or a jack of many trades would not be out of place. Her scope of engagement is not limited to posting Instagram skits and giving the best Afang experience, she has her tentacles spread to the movie industry, although she has built a profile as an actress, her idea of a major statement is to produce a movie and her first project, although still in the formative stage, is titled Apollo.

Wofai Ewa is best described as a hustler with no limits and no boundaries – a dreamer whose faith and drive are her working formula for success. Having only crossed her mid-twenties not too long ago, Wofai has had years of hard hustling in the past, while her recent years has been a mix of hustling and balling but her hopes are to spend the future purely doing the latter.

Travel / 6 Best Coffee Shops In Lagos By Mercy Williams by magazineguy(m): 8:14am On Apr 24, 2018
It’s quite exciting to discover that a number of Coffee Shops have been developed in Lagos over the past few years. Not only because of the Coffee or Pastries they have to offer, but because coffee shops, as well as cafes around the world, are also popular for having workspace corner and free WiFi, encouraging people to not only eat in but also work from within.

This is very important in Lagos, as there are a lot of young entrepreneurs who may not be ready to pay for office spaces but need spaces like this for collaborative work and meetings.

Here’s a list of a few of the best coffee shops in Lagos, describing the ambiance of the space and the food. This list is not all inclusive, as there are others that I have not gotten a chance to visit.

Coffee Plus

Address: Bijoux Mall, 12 Anifowoshe Street, VI.

Ambiance: This Coffee shop is located in a calm environment, great interior design, quiet with relaxing music.

Workspace: They have a proper workspace corner but WiFi wasn’t available the day I visited, they claim it had just expired though.

Food& Drink: I ordered a Turkey Cheese Sandwich and Iced Coffee Chocolate.

The Sandwich’s portion was generous, I couldn’t even eat all of it, it tasted great, but maybe next time I would ask for it to be spicier.

The Iced Coffee Chocolate wasn’t bad either.

Damage: Turkey Cheese Sandwich – 2,500 NGN

Iced Coffee Chocolate – 1,200 NGN

My Coffee

Address: 40B Adetokunbo Ademola Street, VI.

Ambiance: This cute space has really creative interior design with relaxing music, but I think it’s a little too small, you probably don’t want to go there with a crowd.

Workspace: they have working WiFi for free and there was a lot of people working from the nice workspace corner, so I guess they encourage people to come in and work from the space.

Food & Drink: After minutes of rummaging through their very lengthy menu, I ordered a Panini Roast Beef and Iced Caramel Frappuccino with Whipped Cream.

The Panini Roast Beef was so visually appealing, I started eating before I remembered to take a picture and the taste did not disappoint.

The Iced Caramel Frappuccino has to be the best I’ve had in Lagos (please prove me wrong). I wanted to marry it and take it home.

Damage: Panini Roast Beef – 2970 NGN

Iced Caramel Frappuccino – 1,400 NGN

+ Vat and Ct, total – 4,807 NGN

Vestar coffee

Address: 26, Oju Olobun Close, VI.

Ambiance: I really loved this space. You can tell that the interior design and decor was carefully sourced, the lighting is great and just puts you in a good mood. You would actually want to go on a date here because of the aesthetic appeal.

Workspace: They have a workspace corner set up and working WiFi, they also have a cute little outdoor lounge that would be great for evening meetings.

Food & Drink: I took a friend with me for this one. We realized they had limited food on their menu, so we got what they had anyways. I ordered their Tuna Sandwich and Iced Caramel Macchiato and my friend ordered a Bagel with Cream Cheese and Hot Caramel Macchiato.

The Sandwich was so sinfully good, I regretted not getting two. The Iced Caramel Macchiato was yummy as well, even though they got my name wrong. I’m beginning to think these coffee shops put out the wrong name intentionally, otherwise why do they bother?

My friend’s bagel was a little too dry and the cheese didn’t help. The hot caramel Macchiato was great anyways.

Damage: Tuna Sandwich – 1,000 NGN

Iced Caramel Macchiato- 1,200 NGN

Bagel with Cream Cheese – 1,000 NGN

Hot Caramel Macchiato – 1,000 NGN

La Pointe Cafe

Address: 4A Akin Olugbade Street, VI

Ambiance: the space is cozy yet cheerful. It’s set up to look more like a restaurant than a regular coffee shop.

Workspace: they have free WiFi on request and working from the space is encouraged as well. I would suggest it as a really nice spot for private business meetings.

Food & Drink: I ordered a Tuna Sandwich and a cup of tea. PS: everything in their menu is quite pricey, you have to be ready to spend more than what you would spend in an average coffee shop.

The Sandwich’s portion was pleasantly large and came with a salad side. I guess I can say I got a worth for the money spent. The hot tea was a great relief from the very cozy space.

Damage: Tuna Sandwich – 4,000 NGN

Tea – 800 NGN

Lumena Café

Address: 28, Ahmadu Bello way, Victoria Island.

Ambiance: This Coffee Shop has a properly designed space, with great aesthetics. You would typically want to spend a long time here.

Workspace: they have a workspace and encourage people to work and have meetings from there. You can also get free WiFi on request.

Food and Drink: I ordered a Tuna Mayo sandwich and Hot Chocolate with whipped cream. I was starving and couldn’t wait for the sandwich to be ready, so I got a chocolate muffin. They have a limited menu here too, I would suggest that they extend their menu with maybe more sandwich options.

The muffin was super yummy! If it wasn’t the last one available, I would have gotten more to take home with me.

As little and unappealing as the sandwich looks, it was supper delicious I had to order another one. They were very generous with their serving for the hot chocolate and it was great as well. They were also kind enough to give me a free bag of nuts when I was leaving.

Damage: Chocolate Muffin – 500 NGN

Tuna Mayo sandwich – 600 NGN

Hot Chocolate – 800 NGN

Cafe Neo

Address: fourteen36 mall, 1436 Sanusi Fafunwa St, VI. (Other outlets available)

Ambiance: I personally found the space to be a little too drab. It could be better, they should maybe add more lighting to improve the ambiance of the space, and otherwise, it’s a beautiful space.

Workspace: there was a couple of people working from the shop the day I visited, and there was free WiFi as well. If you’re not like me, and don’t care about the lighting in a workspace, then you would enjoy working from this shop.

Food and Drink: Cafe Neo clearly did not make anything fresh in the store. They had the food pre made and what they do is, they heat it up for you on order. That part did not appeal to me, I ordered their Chicken Wrap anyways, because the sales person recommended it. I also ordered the iced mocha.

The chicken wrap was really great, considering that it was pre made, I would probably have it again if I ever revisit the shop. The Iced coffee was refreshing as well.

Damage: Chicken Wrap – 1,200 NGN

Iced Mocha – 1,400 NGN
