EducationHow Important Is A University Degree In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 8:02am On Oct 15, 2016
Recently, I happened to be in the midst of three guys who were having a conversation about the importance of education, in their own words – a university degree. These men, each successful in their own fields made me question the need for passing through school just to obtain a degree.

We live in a world where a university education is termed as the ultimate and by “world”, I mean “Nigeria”. But day after day, the world around us changes and we are hit constantly by the realization that we cannot continue to live through the conventional means, new occupations arise on a daily basis. Now you have occupations which weren’t in existence some 20, 30 years ago and do they fetch money? You can bet they do. Now, you have programmers, app developers, graphic artists, bloggers, these sorts of things were not studied in the university. Now the youths have role models in Linda Ikeji, the Bella Naijas, and the Maraji, whose art that has made them rich and famous and not what they studied in the university. So it begs the question, is a university degree all that important?

Year by year, the admission board faces a herculean task trying to sift through the numerous applications of students seeking admissions into the various universities. And trust me; half of these students do not even want to work with their degrees when they are done. Hell, they do not even know anything about the courses they chose. After school, you see them venturing into things that are not related to their course of study.

I feel like instead of using all that time wasted in studying something really insignificant to your passion, why not use the four years to get schooled on your art. I.e. If you want to be a fashion designer, go to fashion school and get a degree at designing, you want to be a writer, study something related to that and spare us having to correct your write-ups especially when you use “am” for “I am or I’m”; you want to be a programmer, go to programming school, you want to be a farmer, apply to study at an agricultural university. Don’t go filling your jamb form with Computer Science when what you really want to study is Agriculture. That way, there would be less wasted time, less wasted funds, less wasted years, less….so much more. You wouldn’t have to go through any mid-life crisis or all of those things motivational speakers talk about leaving one career to start another.

But then again, it boils down to how early we push children into schools. Children of 15 get into the university; do you honestly want to tell me that at 15, a person knows what they want out of life? I guess not.

A university education is important but only if you are studying something related to your passion. Otherwise, kindly help reduce the figures of those who apply to universities by going to a school where your art is studied. Thanks.

Literature#changebeginswithme – A Poem By Aneta Chinsell by magazineguy(op): 11:31am On Oct 14, 2016
I never expected to be awoken

The belly of his thoughts from whence I came forth caused me neither joy nor hurt

But it was not until the beginning of the beginning that the beginning began

So, with his hands against which I offer no resistance, I was formed, I was awoken.

My name is Earth.

With the passage of time, the world has evolved.

But you, yes! Man whom he created in the sixth has failed to resolve

To assume your role as man, forgetting that you can subdue me.

Oh! This is pathetic!

Oh! How I ache!

Why does man make a routine of his mistakes?

Only a miserable few have attempted to change this pattern.

While others, I mean you, have shortchanged yourselves in the scheme of things

By taking the back seat as spectators

When you should be on the front stage as actors.

Your rehearsals are enough!

When would you execute that plan you’ve had in mind

Before you could spell the word ‘rough’ ?

I know you’re waiting for funds and the right time.

But work while it is day because it would soon be “night time”.

I’m richer than you could ever think,

gifted in areas you could never imagine

and let this sink;

I have ideas that are beyond amazing.

The source of my wealth?

You of course!

You who buried your gifts, talents

virtues and values

like the slave in the scripture

And have let the times make your life a caricature.

What is life if you die to leave this world intact?

The way you met it when you came in –

shook no grounds,

broke no boundaries. But lucky you.

Life is married to hope

So dare to believe that you are different.

Dare to be different as you live

Baba said it already

#ChangeBeginsWithMe

I guess I started the change already.

CelebritiesSee How Nigeria Artistes Make Money And How Much They Now Charge Per Show by magazineguy(op): 11:18am On Oct 12, 2016
The Nigerian music industry has come a long way and many talented artistes can afford to take risks to venture into the industry knowing they can make money once they get “blown”; parents are no longer ashamed getting to know their kids’ musical ambition.

The music industry in Nigeria has been one of the fastest growing in Nigeria over the past 10 years; listenership, revenue from sales of albums, export of our music, quality of videos are just a few of the factors attributing to the growth of the industry.

Here are the ways through which Nigerian Artistes make money;

Album Sales

In theory, this is the major way through which artistes make money. Although in Nigeria this isn’t straightforward and it’s very complicated. Millions of albums are sold through marketers in Alaba Market, but the artistes only get a slice of the sales. The ‘Alaba Boys’ control the Nigerian music industry and are also responsible for the success or failure of artistes [although the trend is shifting with the emergence of the digital audience]. The marketers have wide distribution networks which make it easier for them to distribute the albums of the artistes nationwide. PSquare reportedly collected about N50 million for the marketing, duplication, and distribution of their ‘Danger’ Album. Their ‘Game Over’ album was also sold to TJoe Enterprise (a major marketer) for N10 million. Other artistes who have made money from their albums by signing deals with the marketers include Burna Boy; who sold his LIFE album for N10 million, M.I sold the distribution right to Ahbu Ventures for N20 million. Timaya was paid some thousands for his first album, but he now earns millions from selling the marketing rights for his recent albums.

The truth is that it is extremely difficult for artistes to make money in Nigeria through album sales except for the A-Listers like PSquare, Wizkid, Tiwa savage. The upcoming artistes usually have to even give marketers money to help them promote their albums so they can be a hit nationwide. Once you reach that elite stage the money comes in droves.

Endorsements

Endorsements are the real cake in the music industry. It is another means through which artistes make loads of money – Wizkid signed a multi-million naira endorsement deal worth about $350,000 US dollars. He was first signed by Telecom Giants MTN and was paid N45 million, but he has since been snapped up by Globacom and was even offered almost double the amount MTN paid him. Wizkid reportedly got N120 million from GLO for a 2 year deal; D-Banj signed a deal with Globacom worth around N100 million. He also has a lucrative deal with Apple/Beats by Dre which he signed in October 2014. Dbanj also became an ambassador for Ciroc drink in Nigeria and now he is maximizing his entrepreneurial skills with the Bank of Industry; Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records isn’t only making money from his star-studded record label, he also has very lucrative endorsement deals including one with Loya Milk where he got nothing less than N50 million. His N25 million deal with MTN, and his mouth-watering endorsement with Samsung Africa raked in millions of naira.

P square’s deal with Globacom is reported to be in hundreds of millions of naira.

Flavour also has multi-million naira endorsements with well-known brands such as Globacom, Harp and Onga seasoning; Banky W first major deal was the much talked about $1 million Etisalat money. He also has an N100 million endorsement deal with Samsung Mobile.

Shows

Show performance is a major way through which Nigerian artistes make money. Although the amount earned can vary from artistes, the good thing about shows is that as long as you have a buzz and have the right connections you can earn something from shows. Nigerian artistes also perform at political events, private parties of politicians and businessmen, concerts, birthday parties, and at universities.

Flavour for example charges between 5 – 7 million naira for shows in Nigeria, while to perform on an international stage he charges as much as 8 – 10 Million Naira.

Yemi Alade charges between 3 – 5 million Naira per show.

AdekunleGold charges around 1.5 – 2.5 Million Naira per show

P Square charge between 10 -15 Million per show.

Olamide earns around 5 Million Naira per show.

Davido earns around 6 – 7 million naira per show.

Business & Investments

Nigerian artistes are smart and know that their buzz can’t last forever. They also diversify their revenue streams by investing in various businesses to keep the money flowing.

P Square reportedly own Rayfield Hotel in Jos, and two multi-million naira factories in the same city, where they built a multimillion naira bakery and sachet water companies for their dad and mum, among other investments. They have also ventured into Oil business which they confirmed on their Instagram page in 2013.

D Banj has always had a knack for business, traits which he claimed he got from his mother.

D Banj organized a Koko Mansion reality TV show some years back and earned some millions after striking a deal with a satellite TV station to air the programme. He has also ventured into agriculture by starting his Koko Garri brand and also Koko Mobile telephone.

Digital Monetization

Although only a few Artistes make money from Youtube, it is fast becoming one of the means through which Nigerian Artistes generate income. On YouTube, whenever your music is used in videos that are running ads, YouTube pays a portion of that advertising money to the rights holders of the song. Youtube usually pays $2 for every 1000 views. Another major advantage of Youtube is that it helps new fans around the world discover your music and increase your popularity.

P Square’s ‘’personally’’ is the most viewed Nigerian video on Youtube with over 46 million views. Doing the calculation, the duo wouldn’t make less than $100,000 from the video. P Square have a total of four (4) videos in the list of the ten (10) most viewed videos on Youtube. Dbanj’s Oliver Twist video is 2nd on the list of the most viewed videos in Nigeria, with over 34 million views. Other Artistes on the list of the most viewed videos on Youtube include Iyanya, Davido, Timaya, Yemi Alade, and Flavour.

Licensing

Nigerian Artistes make money if their song placed in a film, commercial, or TV show, chances are they’re going to pay you a licensing fee. These fees vary greatly, depending on the budget for the project, and how badly they want your particular song. 2face song African Queen was used on Fat Girls. This isn’t a very developed means of making money yet in Nigeria.

Technology MarketBest Ways To Use Social Media For Your Business by magazineguy(op): 12:16pm On Oct 08, 2016
As the year comes to an end, and businesses are getting ready for the traditional festive holiday, while some of us are anticipating a peaceful festive period with little or no interference from work, just pure solitude and late mornings. Others, still have to work, even on Christmas Day, they have office hours, thanks to the big fat ‘demon’ that is called Social Media!

It is little or no news that this fad is here for the long haul, with corporate businesses and the likes moving their services online and even creating a platform on the net for easy access and a wider range communication bracket. While this is all well and good and has grown to be the most effective means of marketing and expansion of businesses in a second, some organizations are still misusing this tool and also turning online marketing into a bore and a drag.

Like all fads and cool toys, social media has its perils and up sides, you need to learn the tricks to the trade, literally – when to join in on a conversation, when to up your ante, and when to just sit back, turn off your internet and watch. Below are few tips that can further improve your social media game.

MORE LISTENING AND LESS TALKING

For every brand there is a target audience, make sure to find your target audience and what interests them. Join in on their conversations, sparking color where necessary, don’t try to be overly eager or too ‘smart’. Keep it simple and breeze through, don’t be too complicated.

SPECIALIZE IN A CERTAIN FIELD.

It is important to master the art of focusing your brand on a certain thing, do not try to be so many things at a time to your audience. In the real world being a jack of all trades is very flattering and is always a welcome development, but on social media, your brand just comes off as confused and misplaced.

QUALITY TRUMPS QUANTITY

Pretty much explains itself, build a followership that is genuinely interested in your brand and its contents, if you have a steady 5,000 followers that tune in whenever your brand drops something new, exchanging thoughts and sharing with their friends, then you are on the right track. It tops having 100,000 followers that are uninterested in anything you have to ‘sell’ or share.

PATIENCE IS KEY

Growth on this platform is sometimes very slow and draining, but do not be discouraged, it is very normal.

In most cases, people trend and get instant stardom, but the norm is, you put in a lot of work and success comes steadily.

GROW YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media is like this, once you make the first step, that is, getting a steady audience and consumer base, the chips immediately fall in place, that is, steady content and a well vast brand open the door to your followers, causing them to share your services on their other platforms: Twitter, Facebook and the likes.

So when new followers search for your brand, they pop up in their favorite search engines.

NETWORK WITH LIKE MINDS

Try to find other users that have the same interests and a credible followership like you do, create a comfortable relationship with them.

Do not come across as needy and inexperienced, just keep putting forth quality content and be sure that they will share it to their large base of followers also.

ALWAYS SPICE THINGS UP

The aim of creating a social media base for your brand is to market your BRAND, which is all well and good but then, you do not want to be a bore, always yapping about the same terms and services. You might lose some fickle minded fans, you need them!

Try not to log in only when you have a new business plan to diss out, always be in the mix, focusing more on creating amazing contents and developing relations with online influencers.

TRY NOT TO IGNORE CONSUMERS

Online marketing creates an easy room for interaction, you will have consumers mention you on Twitter for the most stupid reasons, or they just want to engage you in a very long and unnecessary conversation that is probably somewhere on your website. Make sure to always answer, because best believe when they reach out they are waiting for your response.

RECIPROCITY

Try as much as you can to talk about other published brands on the same platform, if you want them to talk about you, or continue talking about you, extend the same to them.

Politics10 Things That May Happen In Nigeria In Next 10 Years - Nairalander Prediction by magazineguy(op): 12:06pm On Oct 08, 2016
Have you ever thought of what may happen in 10 years from now? What your world would come to look like? What would be the social media engagements rate in Nigeria? How fast would information travel to its intended audience? Here is a list of what I think Nigeria would look like in 10 years.

Nigeria In 10 years…

More new faces would be involved in politics especially in Nigeria. This would be so because more people are beginning to realize that governance is each and everyone’s responsibility and not the responsibility of just those already there.

More SMEs would have been formed leading to more jobs creation.

There would be a decrease in the pursuit of professional courses and an increase in pursuit of things that are more entertainment inclined like music, fashion etc.

More people would be involved in tech. as that would be the most seeming quickest way to get money.

Everybody would have an app, the way everybody has a blog now.

There would be a dearth of knowledge as more youths are more interested in reading about gossip, than national matters.

We would have had a woman as president in Nigeria.

The rate at which people get married would be lesser. More people would be just comfortable with being lovers.

Divorce rates would be higher because of the use of social media and conformity to social media standards.

The younger generation would be a lot less intelligent as they were not able to develop cognitive skills of thinking due to the fact that they could just google anything up.

Jobs/VacanciesDo This And Getting Your Dream Job Won't Be A Problem by magazineguy(op):
Getting a good job today can be a challenge, so finding your dream job is an even more daunting task. The majority of graduates who get their dream jobs are either well connected or attended an IVY league college.

Merely getting an impressive-sounding degree from a swanky college is not enough to land a dream job. Impeccable educational qualifications do offer an entry point, but you will often find that they are only a part of the package that potential recruiters seek.

Recent data shows that a shocking 44 percent of millennials are underemployed. These talented and driven people are often found working in low-wage or part-time jobs. Hence, there is a need for creativity to ensure recruiters can spot you in the crowd.

Here are five tips that will increase your chances of landing your dream job.

1. Create a professional online presence with LinkedIn.

Having a professional online presence is one of many critical steps in ensuring you land your dream job. Today, the most popular platform for professionals is LinkedIn. Statistically speaking, recruiters and hiring managers use LinkedIn more than any other website. Build a strong LinkedIn profile by documenting your professional achievements and experience.

Be sure to list any menial jobs you’ve held. They not only convey that you are enterprising but also show that you have successfully shouldered responsibility. You can even list your extracurricular activities and throw in a few of the awards you have earned.

2. Network.

After establishing a professional presence online, it is important to start making connections and associations. This point reinforces the indispensability of professional social media platforms such as LinkedIn. The platform is essential for professional engagement, and you should prefer it to the likes of Facebook and Twitter.

A brick-and-mortar alternative to LinkedIn would be your college’s career services center. Arguably, the best these offices can offer for your career prospect is connecting you with alumni that work in your field of interest. Most colleges now have a database of previous students and where they currently work. Try to get it touch.

3. Get an internship quickly.

Another secret to landing your dream job is your ability to commit. One of the best ways to show your commitment is to drop the break-after-graduation notion. While summer internships are a great idea, there’s nothing better than a professional internship at a prestigious organization. Most of the big companies may not hire you right out of college, but they will more likely consider offering you an internship, often without pay. Showing you are committed to your intended career will certainly increase your chances.

4. Find a good mentor, or be a good mentee.

Securing the guidance and help of a mentor will greatly help. Recent research studies indicate that the highest percentage of students who claim to have at least one mentor chose their parents. Next are those who enlisted their professors, family or friends.

While parents, teachers, relatives and others in your circle can be a tempting option, you should expand your search. Find experts and professionals working in your desired field. Make sure they are people you can relate to. Get some of their books if they have written any and make an attempt to understand their experiences.

5. Get certified in the industry you wish to work in.

Many graduates think their college courses alone prepare them for their dream jobs. The reality is usually a lot more demanding. Millennials just out of college can be overwhelmed by the demands of their dream jobs and often realize they fall woefully short. To avoid a situation where you are intimidated by the expectations of your job, it is advisable to opt for specialization courses that offer a much more focused outlook, and skill sets that are more suited for your dream job.

Getting certified is an added advantage. Many of these training platforms are partnered with major industry players.

Travel10 Amazings Facts About Planet Earth You Don't Know About by magazineguy(op): 5:13pm On Sep 28, 2016
Earth – That shiny blue marble that has fascinated humanity since they first began to walk across its surface. And why shouldn’t it fascinate us? In addition to being our home and the place where life as we know it originated, it remains the only planet we know of where life thrives. And over the course of the past few centuries, we have learned much about Earth, which has only deepened our fascination with it.

But how much does the average person really know about it? You’ve lived on Planet Earth all of your life, but how much do you really know about the ground underneath your feet? You probably have lots of interesting facts rattling around in your brain, but here are 10 more amazing facts about Earth that you may, or may not know.

A year on Earth isn’t 365 days:

It’s actually 365.2564 days. It’s this extra .2564 days that creates the need for a Leap Year once ever four years. That’s why we tack on an extra day in February every four years – 2004, 2008, 2012, etc. The exception to this rule is if the year in question is divisible by 100 (1900, 2100, etc), unless it divisible by 400 (1600, 2000, etc).

Earth is Almost a Sphere

Many people tend to think that the Earth is a sphere. In fact, between the 6th century BCE and the modern era, this remained the scientific consensus. But thanks to modern astronomy and space travel, scientists have since come to understand that the Earth is actually shaped like a flattened sphere (aka. an oblate spheroid).

This shape is similar to a sphere, but where the poles are flattened and the equator bulges. In the case of the Earth, this bulge is due to our planet’s rotation. This means that the measurement from pole to pole is about 43 km less than the diameter of Earth across the equator. Even though the tallest mountain on Earth is Mount Everest, the feature that’s furthest from the center of the Earth is actually Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador.

Plate Tectonics Keep the Planet Comfortable

Earth is the only planet in the Solar System with plate tectonics. Basically, the outer crust of the Earth is broken up into regions known as tectonic plates. These are floating on top of the magma interior of the Earth and can move against one another. When two plates collide, one plate will subduct (go underneath another), and where they pull apart, they will allow fresh crust to form.

This process is very important and for a number of reasons. Not only does it lead to tectonic resurfacing and geological activity (i.e. earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mountain-building, and oceanic trench formation), it is also intrinsic to the carbon cycle. When microscopic plants in the ocean die, they fall to the bottom of the ocean.

Over long periods of time, the remnants of this life, rich in carbon, are carried back into the interior of the Earth and recycled. This pulls carbon out of the atmosphere, which makes sure we don’t suffer a runaway greenhouse effect, which is what happened on Venus. Without the action of plate tectonics, there would be no way to recycle this carbon, and the Earth would become an overheated, hellish place.

Earth is Mostly Iron, Oxygen and Silicon

If you could separate the Earth out into piles of material, you’d get 32.1 % iron, 30.1% oxygen, 15.1% silicon, and 13.9% magnesium. Of course, most of this iron is actually located at the core of the Earth. If you could actually get down and sample the core, it would be 88% iron. And if you sampled the Earth’s crust, you’d find that 47% of it is oxygen.

70% of the Earth’s Surface is Covered in Water

When astronauts first went into space, they looked back at the Earth with human eyes for the first time. Based on their observations, the Earth acquired the nickname the “Blue Planet”. And it’s no surprise, seeing as how 70% of our planet is covered with oceans. The remaining 30% is the solid crust that is located above sea level, hence why it is called the “continental crust”.

The Earth’s Atmosphere Extends to a Distance of 10,000 km

Earth’s atmosphere is thickest within the first 50 km from the surface or so, but it actually reaches out to about 10,000 km into space. It is made up of five main layers – the Troposphere, the Stratosphere, the Mesosphere, the Thermosphere, and the Exosphere.

The bulk of the Earth’s atmosphere is down near the Earth itself. In fact, 75% of the Earth’s atmosphere is contained within the first 11 km above the planet’s surface. However, the outermost layer (the Exosphere) is the largest, extending from the exobase – located at the top of the thermosphere at an altitude of about 700 km above sea level – to about 10,000 km (6,200 mi). The exosphere merges with the emptiness of outer space, where there is no atmosphere.

The exosphere is mainly composed of extremely low densities of hydrogen, helium and several heavier molecules – including nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The atoms and molecules are so far apart that the exosphere no longer behaves like a gas, and the particles constantly escape into space. These free-moving particles follow ballistic trajectories and may migrate in and out of the magnetosphere or with the solar wind.

The Earth’s Molten Iron Core Creates a Magnetic Field:

The Earth is like a great big magnet, with poles at the top and bottom near to the actual geographic poles. The magnetic field it creates extends thousands of kilometers out from it surface – forming a region called the “magnetosphere“. Scientists think that this magnetic field is generated by the molten outer core, where heat creates convection motions of conducting materials to generate electric currents.

Be grateful for the magnetosphere. Without it, particles from the Sun’s solar wind would hit the Earth directly, exposing the surface of the planet to significant amounts of radiation. Instead, the magnetosphere channels the solar wind around the Earth, protecting us from harm. Scientists have also theorized that Mars’ thin atmosphere is due to having a weak magnetosphere compared to Earth’s, which allowed solar wind to slowly strip it away.

Earth Doesn’t Take 24 Hours to Rotate on its Axis

It actually takes 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds for the Earth to rotate once completely on its axis, which astronomers refer to as a Sidereal Day. Now wait a second, doesn’t that mean that a day is 4 minutes shorter than we think it is? You’d think that this time would add up, day by day, and within a few months, day would be night, and night would be day.

But remember that the Earth orbits around the Sun. Every day, the Sun moves compared to the background stars by about 1° – about the size of the Moon in the sky. And so, if you add up that little motion from the Sun that we see because the Earth is orbiting around it, as well as the rotation on its axis, you get a total of 24 hours.

This is what is known as a Solar Day, which – contrary to a Sidereal Day – is the amount of time it takes the Sun to return to the same place in the sky. Knowing the difference between the two is to know the difference between how long it takes the stars to show up in the same spot in the sky, and how long it takes for the sun to rise and set once.

Earth has 1 Moon and 2 Co-Orbital Satellites

As you’re probably aware, Earth has 1 moon (aka. The Moon). But did you know there are 2 additional asteroids locked into a co-orbital orbits with Earth? They’re called 3753 Cruithne and 2002 AA29, which are part of a larger population of asteroids known as Near-Earth Objects (NEOs).

The asteroid known as 3753 Cruithne measures 5 km across, and is sometimes called “Earth’s second moon”. It doesn’t actually orbit the Earth, but has a synchronized orbit with our home planet. It also has an orbit that makes it look like it’s following the Earth in orbit, but it’s actually following its own distinct path around the Sun.

Meanwhile, 2002 AA29 is only 60 meters across and makes a horseshoe orbit around the Earth that brings it close to the planet every 95 years. In about 600 years, it will appear to circle Earth in a quasi-satellite orbit. Scientists have suggested that it might make a good target for a space exploration mission.

Earth is the Only Planet Known to Have Life

We’ve discovered past evidence of water and organic molecules on Mars, and the building blocks of life on Saturn’s moon Titan. We can see amino acids in nebulae in deep space. And scientists have speculated about the possible existence of life beneath the icy crust of Jupiter’s moon Europa and Saturn’s moon Titan. But here is the only place life has actually been discovered.

Although scientists are currently finding clues of life in other planets but for now, it remains the only place we know of where there’s life. Now that is an interesting fact!

CelebritiesNow That Burna Boy Is Back To Aristokrat Records by magazineguy(op): 7:39pm On Sep 26, 2016
Over the weekend, Afro-Reggae act – Burna Boy released his fourth musical project titled “Redemption”; the title perfectly describing his present status – redeeming his once loved vibe within the music scene.

Observing the cover artwork, the presence of Aristokrat Records’ logo alongside Burna Boy’s owned On A Spaceship’s logo confirms Burna’s return to the label that initially propelled his career into lime-light. And just like the prodigal son story in the bible, Aristokrat proved its fatherly love for Burna Boy with audio releases and eventually released an EP on the 23rd of September which had all tracks produced by Leriq – arguably the only producer capable of bringing the best sounds out of him.

Burna Boy who became ‘rebellious’ after a blossoming career left Aristokrat to launched his own label but failed to replicate or rather maintain the vibe Aristokrat created for him and despite releasing an album independently which had great songs that topped charts; it was quite obvious he needed well-experienced minds to run his affairs and this is one aspect Aristokrat never disappoints.

A quick run through the milestones Burna Boy achieved while at Aristokrat and during his independently managed career shows clearly a decline in endorsements, shows, appearances in the later and he cared less about the image representation that was been circulated online with the baby mama’s drama – a story Aristokrat would have managed properly.

His return should be a well-celebrated win for the music industry as we expect great sounds from a combination of Burna Boy and super producer Leriq. Already reviews of his “Redemption” project are confirming how well the industry missed such great combo.

With the brilliant minds at Aristokrat Records, a total turn around of Burna’s career is imminent and the industry is eagerly watching as things unfold and with the release of “Redemption”, Aristokrat are definitely on the right part.

CelebritiesBetween Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie - A Nairalander's Perspective by magazineguy(op): 10:03am On Sep 23, 2016
This week, we had one of the biggest Hollywood celebrities’ breakup news which came shocking to many of us. I in particular never expected it - it was the filing of divorce by Angelina Jolie who has been married to Brad Pitt for a number of years now. At first, I thought it was a joke, till I went on the E! Website and found that it was in fact for real.

I asked a couple of friends what they thought about this and all I got was mostly, “she asked for it”, “didn’t she steal him from another woman?” It should be recalled that Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Anniston for five years before he left her for Angelina Jolie who he met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

This brings me to the reason for writing this article. What happens when a man I love wholeheartedly decides to leave me because he has “found love” elsewhere? And this is not just because of the Brad and Jennifer Aniston split, but also because it goes on even among us. You hear of people, who have gotten engaged but break up because the man apparently found love elsewhere. I once listened to a woman whose husband was sexting a 19 years old and I could hear the pain and agony in her voice as she spoke. I really didn't know what to say to console her. To think that he acted as though everything was normal and if she had not checked his phone, she would have been very oblivious about this whole affair.

What is more painful is the way these men come at women who cheat. For most women who cheat, they had probably had enough and needed an escape. Cheating is bad, coming from man or woman, but people will tell you that the man is allowed to cheat because he is a man and I am like “really?” Somebody once told me about how she confronted her man whom she caught on their matrimonial bed with another woman and all he could say was “Yes, after all I am a man”. Does being a man give you license to cheat? A friend told me of how her boyfriend was trying to make a case for men who cheat and she said “Sunbo (not real name) close your eyes” and he did, then she said “now imagine another guy touching me, kissing me the way you do” there was a very long pause and he there and then realized her point.

To men, they can have sex with another woman and not feel a thing but they do not understand that we ladies are territorial. It would break my heart into a thousand tiny fragments if I thought for one second that my man was cheating on me or even talking to another girl. I won’t stop thinking about it for days, months and even years. I am reminded of a time when someone I had just left, kissed another girl in front of me, at that moment, I wished the ground would open and swallow me, and afterwards, I really couldn’t stop playing and replaying the picture in my head for days. So I can imagine what that woman who caught her husband with another woman is thinking off.
All that talk about it just being sex and not sexual intimacy doesn’t cut it for me. Men would say, it is just sex and that they do not feel a thing. But please I do not understand how you claim to have sexual intimacy with one person and sex with another. If you are mine, do not give me reason to doubt you. I wouldn’t cheat on you, so don’t entertain the thought of doing it.

So, when I read Jennifer Anniston’s reply which was “That’s Karma” to Brad and Angelina’s break up as she was quoted by Daily Mail, I couldn’t help laughing and saying to myself, “This truly is Karma”. I don’t know why Brad and Angelina broke up, but really, Brad it feels good to know that life paid you back in your own coin.

Literature#blacklivesmatter; I’m Black And Proud by magazineguy(op): 8:29am On Sep 16, 2016
I had just woken up one morning and I decided to check my social media platforms so as to get updated with happenings around me and also read a couple of online newspapers when I stumbled on a tweet which read “I don’t even consider black women as women, more like feminine men to me to be very honest”. In my usual positive state which someone else would call “naivety”, I told myself that this was someone who was probably referring to the strength of a black woman, and I was about to move on, when I saw another statement made by her “Laughing my fat ass out, they gave the month with the fewest amount of days to black people #BlackHistoryMonth #WhitePrivilege”. In that moment, I paused, went back to the last tweet and a certain kind of anger rose in me as I realized what she meant.

A few months back, I had spoken to a friend of mine who is based in Canada and when I enquired about “racism” and if he had encountered anything like that, he told me that though it was something that was a rare occurrence, he had experienced it a couple of times. According to him, on one occasion, he was walking and a white was standing somewhere nearby and suddenly, the white spat in his path. He told me how confused he was as he could not understand why someone who did not look like he had any illness would exhibit such unwarranted behavior.

Trust me, you have not heard the best of racist “gists” if you have not heard this one. One of my Dad’s friends was the last person to get on a London bus which had just one seat available beside a white lady. According to him, immediately he sat down, the lady stood up and refused to sit and she maintained a distance from him. My friend’s father understanding what was being played out, stood up so that the lady could sit and “enjoy” her journey. She ended up occupying the two seats, all because “the colour of his skin”.

I must confess that these behaviors are really pointless to me, I mean, I see totally no reason to it. Why would somebody make effort to reduce a person because of his skin color?

But then, maybe we Africans are the ones who have let this escalate. Let’s bring it back home, our television screens are full of “white Nigerian girls” who have either toned their slightly fair complexion or have just switched “somewhat miraculously” from black to white. I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw the throwback pictures of a friend whom I have always known to be fair. She actually used to be very dark skinned. I couldn’t help wondering where all the melanin went. And you can’t blame her at all; have you watched today’s adverts and music videos? What do you see? Even to get a job these days is now about your skin color and not how good you are “Oh, she would learn on the job, we need her face for marketing”.

Listen to the radio, and you hear on-air-personalities that are trying so hard to be British and end up mixing everything up. After all is said and done, they sound like a mixture of Japanese, Chinese, American, and British – you can barely hear what they are trying to pass across. There is a big difference between pronouncing words correctly with the stress in the right places and trying to sound like you are from Mars.

Away from the media, let someone who is black tell you about something and you may not be interested, but let a white man make a move to tell you that same thing and you would probably kiss his feet before he starts talking.

In as much as whites need to understand that we are one irrespective of our color, we as Africans need to be proud of our skin color and stop trying so hard to be white.

I am black and not any less human. My skin color does not reduce my worth in any way. I am black and proud; you should be too!

Career10 Habits That Can Help Improve Your Creativity by magazineguy(op): 8:17pm On Sep 15, 2016
We know building right habits is crucial. It is also really difficult to break off from the ones we already have and wish we didn’t.

As one of my favourite quotes goes, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle

Building right habits can help us making our life a lot easier. It can also helps us become smarter and more creative, as those repeated actions will sharpen your mind.

Below you can find a list of habits which you can add to your daily routine so they can help you improve your work, life, memory and creativity. Also they can help you expand your knowledge, become more social and more intelligent.

Start by trying to come up with a few new ideas each day

This for sure will raise your creative abilities and remember – those ideas don’t have to be big and ground-breaking, just something new.

Ask yourself questions

Too many things we do without thinking. That’s why so many mistakes happen. Always try to make what you do completely fool-proof. Questioning yourself this way, will help you raise the quality of your work and also discover new angles and solutions we normally overlook.

Read and watch educational shows instead of TV Drama shows

How many hours a day regular person wastes on entertainment that doesn’t bring any actual benefit? You can switch those activities for something that will not only entertain you but also will help you learn something new.

Have a few favorite sources of knowledge and creativity

Make sure during your daily deeds, you check out stuff you find interesting, stuff that brings you knowledge and inspires your creativity. This can be anything from a science articles, checking out some new books, music, etc.

Share interesting stuff you learnt

When you share and discuss what you learn, it helps you remember it but also influences people around you in a positive way.

Apply what you learn

Here is where your curiosity should step in. If you read an interesting recipe, try it out. If you find out a new method to solve your problem, try it out and record the results. Learning through application is the best way to really understand how something works.

Have a few lists to keep you going: to do list, I did it list and I should stop it doing list

If you keep track of don’t do it list, it will be easier to avoid the same mistakes. Having an I did list, helps you feel more fulfilled and actually see the results of what you were doing. Same with keeping to do list, makes your days more organized, leaving you with more energy for other actions.

Try to breakthrough your limits, each day a little bit

By doing so, you can expand your areas of expertise and develop your experience.

Have some time to do nothing

Having a busy and productive day can be overwhelming so remember to take some time, at least few minutes a day to just shut down your eyes for a moment and do nothing. Just breath and relax, to avoid gathering too much tension in your body.

Exercise and eat healthy

Although it sounds like a cliche and we are constantly informed how important diet and exercise is, but in deed, it is through exercise, that you can relief a lot of stress and boost your energy. When you pair it up with healthy food you drastically lower the danger of over-stressing and loosing motivation. When food is good, life is food.

TravelRe: 5 Interesting Tourist Centers In Nigeria You Should Visit by magazineguy(op): 11:29am On Sep 14, 2016
magazineguy:
Tourism is one of the established sources of revenue for any nation and it’s great knowing that Nigeria has not slacked in taking advantage of that aspect. Besides our tangible culture such as food, clothing and arts and craft, there are other media through which visitors from neighbouring or far countries can contact and have a feel of what Nigeria is about. Highlighted below are 5 popular tourist attractions and destinations here in Nigeria.

Ikogosi Warm Spring – located in Ekiti Local Government Area, Ekiti state, Ikogosi hosts a rock from which both warm and cold water flow side by side and meet to form a confluence. A couple of myths surround the origin of the spring, the most popular being that warm and cold springs were wives of the same husband who turned to springs in the wake of rivalry between them. The hot and ill-tempered wife turning into a warm spring and the cool tempered wife turning into a cold spring. The story is still being speculated but in the mean time, it continues to attract visitors who want to experience this wonder for themselves. Added to that, there is now a pool sourced directly from the spring’s water in which people can take a dip.

Olumo Rock – Olumo Rock is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The history of the rock dates back to 1830 when it served as a hideout in times of the Egba War. Today, it is one of the acclaimed tourist destinations and even has elevator facilities in place to enable people reach its highest point which is about 137 meters.

Obudu Cattle Ranch – also known as the Obudu Mountain Resort is located in the northeastern part of Cross-Rivers. It was developed in 1951 and recently, a cable car has been added to the resort to give an all-round view of the scenery. Obudu resort has continued to host an influx of indigenes and non-indigenes as the facility stays witnessing development by the Cross-River State Government. It is no doubt one of the well-known holiday and tourist resort centers in Nigeria.

Freedom Park – Freedom Park Lagos was born out of the ruins of Her Majesty’s Broad Street prisons. It was reconstructed to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the Nigerian people. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary Independence Celebration in October 2010 and the park serves as a National Memorial, a Historic landmark, a Cultural site and an Arts and Recreation center.

Jos Wildlife Park – located 4km from the state’s capital, Jos Wildlife Park offers a variety of animal species ranging from Lions, Elephants, Monkeys, Crocodiles etc. It threw its gates open to visitors in 1972 and from then till 1977, different reserves were commissioned. Depending on season, games are viewed at the park from 10am to 6pm every day.

LiteratureOld Sins; A Fiction Story By Phidelia Imiegha by magazineguy(op): 8:18am On Sep 12, 2016
A feeling you can’t describe wakes you up at 2am. Yesterday, it was 3:15am when this feeling woke you up and you tiptoed to the bathroom trying not to wake your husband. You sat on the toilet seat and you cried, silent cries, your chest heaving, your hand over your mouth, trying not to make any sound as you offloaded your chest.

But the load came back, because now it’s 2am and you’re awake again, and you’re tiptoeing to the bathroom when you hear movement behind you. You turn around and your husband, Mike, is sitting up in bed, propped up on his elbow, rubbing his eyes.

“Where are you going?” he asks, “Are you okay?”

You nod even though he can’t see you in the darkness. You tell him to go back to bed; you say you’re just going to use the bathroom. He mumbles okay and falls back onto his pillow. You know he’d be asleep within a minute. You grab your phone from the table in the middle of the room, walk into the bathroom and shut the door quietly. You sit on the toilet and sigh loudly. Sometimes, your bathroom is your safe haven, a quiet sanctuary where you can be alone with your thoughts.

*********************************************************************************************************

You met Mike nine years ago at his cousin’s wedding and two years later you were married. He was charming and attractive and he had a good job. You both fell in love very fast and he was eager to start a family but life had other plans. With each passing day, you and Mike become even more distant from each other.

You only have sex when you’re fertile now, because the times when you had sex for pleasure has long passed. Now you do it because after being married for seven years, you still haven’t gotten pregnant once. And so, every month, you try to get pregnant, but ever so faithfully, two weeks after, the red roses bloom.

************************************************************************************************************

Earlier in the week, your colleague took you to a prophetess who she said worked mighty miracles and performed signs and wonders; You took one look at the place that served as her home and temple, a dingy one room apartment in a building that looked like it was going to collapse anytime, and you laughed. You wondered why her signs and wonders hadn’t gotten her out of the slums. You shared this thought with your colleague and she eyed you and called it humility, or modesty. Or both.

The prophetess listened to your story and pronounced her verdict immediately after you stopped talking. She said you had greatly offended some people in your past. She said they were still angry and that their anger had turned into a rope that had tied a knot around your womb, preventing you from conceiving. You laughed nervously and asked her what her solution was. She said you had to search your mind, find these people and beg their forgiveness.

PropertiesNuli Juice, 8 Rumens Road And My Thoughts - Blessing Iyamadiken by magazineguy(op): 8:04am On Sep 09, 2016
There really can’t be anything more heart wrenching than getting to your place of work and finding bulldozers about to pull down structures. Such was the tale of Nuli Juice, Nuts About Cakes and the other companies that shared the structure on 8, Rumens Road, Ikoyi. Staffs of the various companies that occupy the building had gotten to their place of work on the 1st of September 2016, to find bulldozers and policemen in guns ready to demolish the building.

A lot of people have argued that in a country where the government claims to be in support of SMEs, this action not only was rash and uncalled for, but also seen as sending the wrong message to investors outside the country about the business climate of Nigeria. Others however, still not in support of the government have come out to say that Nuli Juice and the other companies that occupied the building should have done more to find out about this matter before starting or renewing any form of payment for the building. Lagos landlords are never truthful, so many at times, you need to do your fact finding yourself especially when it involves huge sums of money. Some tenants had just renewed their rent while others like Nuli juice who moved in just recently had also paid to a landlord who certainly knew about the government’s displeasure with the build but did not say a word concerning it to his tenants.

A certain experience of a friend comes to mind – this friend had just paid a certain amount of money for his rent and had paid for two years straight up. After a month spent at his new residence, he was disconnected by PHCN because of a pending bill of close to a hundred thousand naira. Of course, he was very surprised as he had not envisaged that this would be a problem when he was paying for the rent. He contacted the landlord who made no effort to sort it out with the officials involved seeing that the hundred thousand was obviously an accumulated bill of the previous tenant. At the end of the day, he had to part with another huge sum of money just to resolve the issue. Though not the same gravity as the Nuli juice matter, both can be compared because in both cases the landlord knew something was up and the tenant had not taken his time to ask for the appropriate documents from the landlord. The building Nuli Juice occupied for instance, was said to have had the “X” symbol on it. Did tenants bother to find out why the sign was put there and how they could work a solution to this problem?

In my own opinion, all the parties involved are to blame. From the landlord who knew about this problem but kept telling his tenants that the matter was being resolved, to the tenants who knew the building had problems with government officials but did not take out their time to find out the situation of things concerning the building. The government also should have tried to reach out to the tenants and extended the notice to them as well. If they treat SMEs like this especially in this period of recession, how do they expect foreign investors to readily buy into businesses in the country? How do they expect the economy to grow? Do they realize that the death of small businesses has its ripple effects? Think of how many people lost their jobs due to this singular move, both the direct workers and the indirect workers (artisans, carpenters, plumbers and so many others).

I must however commend the CEO of Nuli Juice, Ada Osakwe, who seems to have put this incident behind her and is somewhat trying to bounce back. Just yesterday, Uber Nigeria delivered Nuli Juice to Lagos residents who placed orders. It is a good thing that she has not allowed this unfortunate incident affect her business and it shows that she has a fighting spirit. I really do hope that the other businesses affected by this event can recover soon.

This incident, should actually serve as a lesson to Lagos residents for the need to be careful when making payments for apartments.

Celebrities10 Popular Nigeria Artistes Who Are Not Verified On Twitter by magazineguy(op): 5:39pm On Sep 07, 2016
After its introduction of the verification mark in late 2009, Twitter has successfully solved the impersonation problem which had hindered a lot of personalities owning a Twitter Account for fear of being impersonated.

When it launched, a few top celebrities were automatically verified based on their status and when it moved to Nigeria, it was a way of differentiating worth even within the celebrity circle – little wonder once a celebrity gets verified, it is being celebrated as some sort of achievement.

Despite it 10 year of existence and fully opening the verification public, there are still some popular Nigerian artistes who are yet to be acknowledged by the twitter blue mark. Below is a list of some of them:

CYNTHIA MORGAN – Interestingly, Cynthia Morgan was initially verified which actually caused a twitter fight between her and Eva Alordiah’s younger brother. She lost the verification mark after changing her handle from @cynthiamorgan to @icynthiamorgan

ILL BLISS – CEO Goretti Company and a Partner at Capital Hills, Ill Bliss has been in the industry for close to a decade now. He pioneered the Igbo-fused hip-hop which fellow Igbo rappers are currently enjoying. He definitely deserves a verification mark.

VECTOR THA VIPER – Barrack Boy, Vector is a force to reckon within the hip-hop scene. Just like Cynthia Morgan, he was verified but lost his verified account after his label former label seized his account during their feud and changed the name to one of their subsidiaries. Vector opened a new account which is yet to be verified. With a large fan base, Vector also deserves a blue mark.

EVA ALORDIAH – Sexy diva Eva Alordiah was among the first femcees Nigeria ever produced. In late 2009, she came in and gave the male rappers a chase for their money. Although she has been unstable lately postponing an already due album from 2015 to 2016, Eva has kept her social media communities engaged with her writings and if that accounts for something, then she should get a verification mark as well.

TEKNO
– Surprisingly, Tekno isn’t verified and it makes me wonder if he is unconcerned about his brand representation. Tekno has been in the limelight for over 5 years now and he has garnered fans globally. Although his Instagram account has the verification icon same can’t be said for his Twitter.

MODENINE – Arguably one of Nigeria’s most underrated rapper of all time, Modenine’s unverified account once again shows how largely this great veteran is being underrated.

TERRY G – Spiritual Ginjah man, Terry G is also among the list of unverified acts Nigeria has. Lately Terry G has undergone some wonderful branding from his usual super-hyper being to a more reserved act save for his display of violence at an event earlier in the year.

MAYORKUN – Although Mayorkun seems fairly new into the industry, his affiliation with one of Africa’s biggest acts – Davido should have given him an edge over other younger acts. A cue from Don Jazzy’s influence saw his children – Reekado Banks, Di’ja and Korede Bello getting verified upon their signing to Mavin Records.

HUMBLESMITHS – He probably doesn’t need it but he surely deserves it. With several singles featuring top acts with the likes of Flavour, Davido, Phyno and Harrysong, Humble Smiths is one act that should have the verified icon on his account.

HARRYSONG – Harrysong aka Mr. Songz is another underrated Nigeria artiste who despite his hardwork and success-inspired journey, he still is yet to be acknowledged.

With the recent policy Twitter has – opening the verification exercise to the public, it is paramount for these acts to take advantage and get verified.

Celebrities"Music Is Just A Fraction Of Me" - Aramide by magazineguy(op): 8:32pm On Aug 29, 2016
It takes a lot for a person to truly look inward and discover that which they have are passionate about. For Aramide, separating herself from the crowd and nursing her love for music by always being in one singing group or the other right from childhood was how it all started for her and till today, she’s still doing all it takes to maintain her stride in music as a recording and performing artist.

Aramide Sarumoh Alli is an Oyo state indigene but grew up with her family in Jos. She had her education there and graduated with a degree in Political Science from University of Jos before moving to Lagos to pursue her music career. Her interest in music dates back to her early years when her dad played soul, jazz, afro beat and reggae music from the likes of Ray Charles, Fela, and Peter Tosh. She created her sound from all she heard and at the tender age of 11, she wrote her very first song. She then progressed to mastering the art of playing the guitar and writing songs based on experiences she could relate to and from there created her own melodies.

Having participated in a music talent show called “Start Quest” she became certain she wanted to go pro with her music and started recording a lot. Aramide did not just sit back and day dream about a career in music; she put herself out there by performing at open mic events in places such as Freedom park, Bogobiri and Taruwa. She sent demo CDs to record labels and got her eventual signing with Trybe Records. She loves to work with a live band and defines her genre of music as Afro-Soul; infusing a blend of African beat, sound and language with soul music. She draws inspiration from her environment and general happenings around her; things she sees, hears and experiences by herself.
So far, she has released 4 singles which center on love, friendship and life experiences. Her very first single, It’s Over was released in 2012, then Feeling This Feeling followed suit in 2014. In 2015 Iwo Nikan and I Don’t Care were released and the latest, Love Me was released in February 2016 where she featured Adekunle Gold.

Christianity Etc10 Famous Quotes On Perseverance - Dagmara Chen by magazineguy(op): 1:01pm On Aug 25, 2016
Often times, when chasing our vision we do not realize how much of an effort it will take.

Most of us give up half way... Or worse - give up right before we are about to succeed.

Hopefully, you will find quotes below useful or inspiring, when your spirit needs lifting. And you will not give up on your dreams.

"It's not that I am so smart, it's that I stay with problems longer"- Albert Einstein
Just how often we blame our failure on not being smart enough? But maybe the issue is somewhere else completely. Think about it - have you really given enough thought to your problem before calling it "impossible"?

"Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them." - Ann Landers
Why we often give up on things, before we start? Because we don't want to go through the hard work. It seems to be human nature, to want things to come easily.

"To follow, without halt, one aim: There's the secret of success." - Anna Pavlova
How many of us are guilty of stoping of pausing achieving our goals, because of whatever the reason? Sometimes it was doubt, stress, fear... But once you stop, it's more difficult to go back there.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle
Most of us have people whom we idolize. We think they are so excellent and brilliant, just because that's who they are and we will never achieve that level. Believe it or not, excellence is trainable.

"Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did." - Newt Gingrich
This might sound a bit harsh but if you are not prepared to give more than you have, you will not achieve your goals. Success is not for people who easily get tired.

"Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go." - William Feather
There is always someone who tries harder than you. And until you are the last man standing, you might not win.

"It always seems impossible until it's done." - Nelson Mandela
In moments of doubt, that is a good thing to remember. I bet, already on your way someone told you, that it's impossible and you should not do it, yet you kept going and succeeded. Why give up now?

"We will either find a way or make one." - Hannibal
Perseverance is kind of force of nature that keeps us moving forward. Knowing how to use this force and create your own way, is the first gate on your way to victory.

"A winner is just a loser who tried one more time." - George M. Moor Jr.
Giving up can bring a momentary relief but the remorse that you did not try one more time, can sometimes be even harder on you.

"It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." - Confucius
And to close up this topic, do not loose patience. Sometimes you will have to go slow, sometimes you will be out of strength but even a little step forward counts.

So keep going!

Celebrities“I’m A Huge Fan Of Asa's Music” – Adekunle Gold by magazineguy(op): 10:08am On Aug 24, 2016
From being known as the King of Photoshop, no one saw Adekunle Gold’s switch to music coming. He literally swept people off their feet and it was a good sweep indeed. Having put out 4 singles in a space of 2 years and with 3 of those singles being about love/relationships, Adekunle Gold is not shy to admit he loves women, and says he loves the idea of love and thinks love is beautiful.

Describing his genre of music as Urban Highlife, the Lagos State Polytechnic graduate of Arts and Design decided to capitalize on his heavy use of Yoruba language, fusing it with a bit of Pidgin and English as well to develop his unique sound. Having listened to the likes of King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey while growing up and drawing inspiration from them, it is safe to say Adekunle Gold is doing a great job of establishing himself as one of the new school alternative music guys and he backed this up by clinching the award for Best Alternative Song at the 2015 Headies.

He is a dogged fan of Asa and expressed this saying “if I were to mention 5 people in the industry I’ll like to work with, it will be Asa, Asa, Asa,Asa, Asa. I’m such a huge fan.”

Adekunle Gold is not only a singer and love crooner. He is a songwriter as well and was part of the contributing songwriters on Darey’s Naked album. When he is not making music, he plays video games a lot and loves to look at pictures, exercising his creative mind as a graphic artist.

He lives for the testimonies that emerge from listening to songs and gushed about how the feedback he got from releasing Sade was centered mainly on the fact that it helped guys go get their dream girl. He says he would not rest on his oars and his ultimate legacy has to be great music; music that people can reflect on, dance to and especially, heal them.

Although he misses his private life and cannot “fly bike” the way he used to due to his loathe for traffic, he appreciates the love from fans so far and says it honestly feels good to be recognized by people.

From graphic artistry to singing and now an album on the way, Adekunle Gold is a mine of surprises and plans to unveil in a big way, his finesse with an instrument he has dedicated a lot of time to perfecting. Many will agree it’s been a long time coming; so watch out.

CelebritiesMeet Industry Nite New Host - Spanky by magazineguy(op): 3:42pm On Aug 10, 2016
Event host and hype man extraordinaire! In this line of business, SPANKY is likely to be the most energetic individual you will ever come across. With a bubbling personality and zeal to make every event he hosts one to remember, people who have seen him do his thing can testify he is a natural at what he does. From being easily accessible and receptive to an interview, he sat for this interview at The Lekki Coliseum Center, where he bared it all about himself and his hosting journey so far.

Please can you give an insight to your personal background and background in event hosting?

Spanky:
My name is Patrick Osewingie Osagie, I’m from Benin in Edo state born in Lagos. I shuttled between Lagos and Benin for my education and I’m a graduate of Mass Communication from Benson Idahosa University. The business of hosting for me started from being a sociable person. I started by hosting parties back in high school and with time I graduated to serious club business. I watched a lot of international hype men and went out more in a bid to better myself. As at the time I was in the university, the club scenery had just began to change but there was no hype man so I did PR for all the clubs and became the very first hype man there. In Lagos I did PR for Sweet 16 bar at Elegushi when it started, Illumina lounge and a couple of other places. There’s this guy called Gatuso who owns a bar at Oniru called G12. He was the one that gave me my first real shot at holding a mic and hyping up the crowd.

How did you come about your stage name, Spanky?

Spanky:
I used to call myself P-rock, Bova etc but it wasn’t sticking. I was working with a group of guys in Ibadan, they’re called In-Excess and I was to host and hype an event for them and in the course of trying to put my name on the flyer, Spanky literally came off the top of my head. It is born out of spanking as in spanking new, and something fresh so that’s it.

How did you land your deal with Industry Nite?

Spanky:
After I switched from hyping to hosting events, I moved to South Africa for 18 months. In that period I took a 2 month course in Music Business Management in SAE Institute. On coming back, Matthew Ohio gave me the exclusive hosting deal for Industry Nite in September 2015 and from then till now I’ve hosted every edition of Industry Nite both within and outside Lagos.

Seeing as you always exude a lot of energy, where does it come from and do you have any routines before going on stage?

Spanky:
I’m always on a natural high so the energy just comes. This is something I have always wanted to do and from doing it overtime I have learned to perfect my craft. God and watching my mentors help but the music is key; I like music so much and it sets it all off. I do a lot of research and I learn from all the event hosting performances I watch.

CelebritiesWhy Kiss Daniel May Not Get An Endorsement Anytime soon by magazineguy(op): 4:49am On Jul 26, 2016
http://www.tushmagazine.com.ng/kiss-daniel-maynot-get-an-endorsement/

On May 14th, 2016 the album launch for New Era by Kiss Daniel took place at Eko Hotel and while there wasn’t so much hype surrounding the release for a debut album, the launch turned out to be a very successful one which came off as a good gift for Emperor Geezy – owner of G-Worldwide who had his birthday celebration same day.

The launch had guest performances from top artistes and attendance from a long list of celebrities making the night a very interesting one if you had attended. Of course Kiss Daniel performed songs off the album and in what seem more of performances than actual singing, Kiss Daniel showed how a total package he was as an entertainer; I was surprised reviews of the launch didn’t hit the internet or news platforms as expected because I didn’t get to read much about it.

The album had twenty good songs with production from six different producers and interestingly one featured artiste – Sugarboy who happens to be his label mate; that scored the highlight for the album and while I commend his entire management for that great move, I’m still trying to get the logic for pulling that.

Olamide pulled this off last year when he released his “Eyan Mayweather” album without featuring any other act on it and despite how ‘big’ Olamide is and his already established affiliations, aside his shutdown concert I’m not sure of the commercial success of the album when compared to his other previously released albums.

Olamide and Phyno created a bond together and have successfully released joint projects from singles to an album; when Guinness came up with their Made of Black campaign, we all know the artistes who benefited from it.

We are all aware affiliations works wonder, most especially in the Nigeria Music Industry where an act gets an endorsement not for his craft but for his affiliation with a certain artistes’ clique. It saddens me to see talented acts not given the recognition/benefits they truly deserve even after putting a lot of hard work into successful projects. One very saddening case is Kiss Daniel and I think we should hold his label or rather his management for this.

Kiss Daniel with no features on his album debuted at number 8 on the Billboard, this same album boasts of great songs like Woju – which topped the airwaves for the most of 2015 and can be argued as one of the biggest songs for that year, other singles like – Laye, Good Time [which got a Wizkid’s version] also had a fair share of chart topping moments and also Mama – which is the biggest song so far in 2016 and might end up as the biggest song for 2016 if no new banging tune comes out before the year runs out. With all these feats, one still wonder why he hasn’t penned down an endorsement so far and is not even on the list of major awards receipts.

Just over the weekend, social media went super excited about the One Fest Africa event which held at the Barclays Event center and apparently the event had a handful of top Nigeria artistes. A quick run through about the artistes and you will find out they are all clients of Oga Paul Okoye who interestingly put the event together, I personally feel Kiss Daniel deserved a spot on that roll call but quite unfortunately he wasn’t and the event is already over.

Another quick look at Kiss Daniel awards list might come off as disappointing; in the entire 2015 he won four awards and only one amongst them is notable enough for mention – NEA Awards.

Kiss Daniel no doubt is a top talented act and with information I gather, he charges around 2 million naira – 3 million for performances which seems ideal for his status but how often does he get called for gigs when most of the telecoms and bigger brands have their ambassadors a phone call away.

Currently “Jombo” a single off the album is being promoted and with their usually strategy if employed might see the song becoming a big deal same was done for Sugarboy’s “Holla Holla” whom might become a focus soon for the label leaving Kiss Daniel’s potential earnings ineffectively explored.

I earnestly wish Kiss Daniel the best and I hope his management can get this right.

I shudder to think of how many houses we have destroyed in these two days. On our way back to Egbbeddi in the afternoon we passed by Sabagreia and told our old friend Chief Ijor that most likely we should burn down Sabagreia the next day…”

Nigeria’s population was just 16 million in 1911. It is projected to hit 444 million by 2050, surpassing the US and becoming the 4th largest in the world.

CelebritiesRe: Between Iyanya, Ubi Franklin And Triple MG by magazineguy(op): 9:49pm On Jul 18, 2016

magazineguy:
Developing a proper structure for indigenous music label has been a tough task been laid upon label owners in Nigeria. Despite the fact issues pertaining structuring have been raised severally, we are still witnessing a repeat of similar events within different labels and it begs the question – Is structuring feasible in Nigerian-owned Music Labels?

We have seen successful artistes setting up record labels based on their personalities without having enough knowledge on the technical-know-how to run a label. The trend which is becoming a thing in the industry funny enough all take similar approach – using social media to announce the birth of their personal label.

Recently, one of Nigeria’s talented star – Iyanya took the same path in announcing the launch of his new label. His action stirred a lot of controversies bearing the mind he is a co-founder of Triple MG and coming at a time he was having debt issues with a show promoter in the USA. Prior to now, rumours been peddled had it that he and Ubi – his partner and manager have been at loggerheads in recent times with money issues on top.

Ubi in his usual in his usual manner took to Instagram to issue a “press release’ to bloggers debunking the stories of mismanagement or branching out when Iyanya clearly stated his intention to launch a new record label. Ubi lately have become more of a husband than a manager to signed acts under his co-founded label where he handed over bookings of each Triple MG to Paul O’s Upfront and Personal.

Ubi is by far and large a hardworking young man but apparently he places more value on his family than label which if you ask me in my own opinion is the wisest thing to do inasmuch there is any halt to the running of the label.

Since the announcement by Iyanya and the counter announcement by Ubi, I have been trying to figure out what each of them actually meant with Iyanya saying he is launching a new label and Ubi saying Iyanya is still part of Triple MG so also his new label – a Chocolate City and Iceprince case comes to mind although they are not quite similar.
