Business6 Ways To Use Social Media And Achieve Business Success by magazineguy(op): 7:11am On Oct 09, 2017
Social media represents an avenue where businesses can achieve accelerated success. If you are used to sharing personal stuffs from pictures to word posts and videos and you own a business or intend to start one, it’s time for you to consider sharing your products and services with other social media users. Social media platforms especially Facebook allows users to create and promote pages that carry their businesses’ profiles.

How can business success be achieved from social media presence? The answer lies with how the user streamline his/her outreach messages whose result can be a failure or success. When success is the result intended, an entrepreneur should be able to create and post

Carefully Planned And Catchy Posts

Your posts should not be haphazard, they should be well thought out in catchy manners. Planned and catchy posts are like breaking news, this is the sole reason why some people’s posts turn out to become viral quotes on the various social medias.

Reveal Your Strengths

Your products or services strength, best production methods and equipment qualities should be communicated. These will give your potential customers confidence in your ability to deliver and surpass their desired satisfaction.

Use Beautiful Images

Business can only thrive when it has customers, customers are humans, humans are dynamic but there are practices and attitudes that are majorly accepted by most of us, and we also easily give attention to attractive things. Therefore it is necessary to use attractive images to promote our businesses on social media.

Be Patient

Growing active followership on social media who can be easily converted to customers demands patience. The more patience one exhibits in order to accommodate objections and build trust, the more the number of customers that can be grown.

Announce And Celebrate Milestones

Whatever successful milestone that is achieved should be immediately announced and celebrated, be it expansion to new location, partnership, honour and award or an acquired new standard. This will easily improve the company’s image, increase customers’ loyalty and grow new ones.

Expose Your Imitators

It is a common practice for others to imitate and at times impersonate successful entrepreneurs. The actions of this kind of persons will affect your business negatively or destroy it completely. It’s pertinent to always trace this group of persons and expose them if you care about your business and customers.

Jobs/VacanciesWhat To Do And Not Do When You HATE Your Job! by magazineguy(op): 3:39pm On Oct 05, 2017
Finding job satisfaction in a work environment for some can be pretty daunting. They get so frustrated they become indecisive on their next career move. They continually remain in constant conflict with themselves. Most times these feelings can’t be suppressed any longer which leads to unnecessary outbursts and tantrums which doesn’t tell well on the kind of person you are.

So you hate your job?!

… here is what NOT to do while employed.

Never take out your frustrations on your colleagues, employees or family members. They are not the cause of whatever it is you are struggling with so don’t let out that pain rather make them a calm in the storm. Let them help you find meaning from this emptiness you feel.

Share how you hate and why you hate your job to a community you have no control over. Keep your disdain to yourself. None needs to know you hate your job especially on social media. Your boss or a work colleague could see it and it might lead to an immediate termination of your employment.

Avoid important shared moments with friends and family. Always make out time for the ones that truly matter. Those are the memories that last a life time.

Never settle, always learn a new skill. Learning a new skill is fun, it keeps the mind engaged and your creative juices flowing. You get to be an important part of a community by learning something that can be of importance to someone else.

When there is life, there is hope. There is always room for improvement. Never sit still and imagine that all is lost for it isn’t… it is written. Keep up your spirit and always look up to positivity. Your break through is but a door away.

Now that you have the bad stuff out of the way, let’s focus on the good stuff. This is what you should definitely do when you hate your job.

Always put in your best at work. Go all in when you want to deliver in your job and find ways that you can be happy at work and in what you do.

Find a good stress killer by doing fun stuff to distract depression. Get your mind distracted by reading, taking a walk down the office stalls. Anything that keeps you distracted from the bad stuff but yet engaged enough to take on a new challenge.

No matter what you do, always stay happy. Find happiness in the most mundane things like how the sun constantly sets in the west and not the north.

Think of what you want from the opportunity you have. Is it the name, the company culture, the salaryhuh What is your biggest motivator?
When you have it figured out, make sure you are in the job for the right reasons.

Start job hunting!

Find an environment that values the work you do and makes the job environment sane enough to be productive.

Business5 Reasons Entrepreneurship Shouldn’t Be Ignored In Nigeria by magazineguy(op): 8:17am On Oct 02, 2017
We have existed long enough as an entity and our ideals, beliefs and activities have over the years encountered changes that resulted from new trends, technological advancement, globalization and other factors. We are gradually getting out of the era of subjection to parental preference of one’s career choice and good qualification for better job.

We are gradually embracing the lone and the less travelled path to achieving financial independence through entrepreneurship, the recent ideological revolution with various social proofs showing a good statistics of individuals succeeding at entrepreneurship is the best motivation and influence one requires to get started. Information and experience are very paramount to achieving quicker success in the journey of entrepreneurship. While information abound, it is also advisable to consume the best ones. Experience can also be borrowed from acquiring information and mentoring or learned from trying. The following reasons have shown that entrepreneurship is gaining more ground in Nigeria and shouldn’t be ignored:

The jobs are becoming tougher to come by
A high number of people are underemployed and dissatisfied with their jobs and a higher percentage of persons with the abilities and willingness to work are finding it difficult to secure jobs.

More persons are becoming more successful through starting their own business
A good number of Nigerians are thriving greatly living their business dreams including students, workers, retirees and those who seek to be their own bosses. The proofs are in the household names we are familiar with, the products and services we patronize regularly such as clothing, beauty, events and entertainment.

More parents are becoming proud of entrepreneurial children
Gone are those days when parents detest any form of detour from the norms of pursuing careers that are perceived by the society as highly respectful. If you want more proof try asking Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola or Jason Njoku and Mark Essien’s parents.

Entrepreneurs are receiving national and global attention
This group of extra ordinary men and women are receiving awards, recognition and even grants within and outside the country.

Passions are rapidly being turned into successful businesses
People have monetized their passions and many are also leaving paid jobs to do what they love most as a business.

RomanceWork Romance: How You Can Have Your Cake And Eat It! by magazineguy(op): 8:49am On Sep 28, 2017
The workplace affords colleagues to work long hours a day, on projects and similar goals to productivity. Therefore it is fool hardy to think that finding love in the work environment is impossible. The major triggers of time and proximity is a huge facilitator in creating romantic bonds between colleagues.

Some work environments already have measures put in place to handle the inevitable. Even though HR will not encourage work romance in the workplace but will leave the love birds struck by cupid to live out their love outside the office to avoid poor productivity and inconvenience to the rest of the team.

Now here is how to get your work romance under the radar and outside the pealing eyes of HR.

What are your intentions?
You need to understand the true intentions of your partners (colleagues who you’ve found love in). If this person’s intentions are pure towards you and who is not with you just for sex, then run with the affection.

Try Not to fall for your boss
Avoid being romantically linked with someone who you report to. It can become overwhelming and unbearable especially if you have to be scolded by this person on a project you fell short in. If you can, avoid relationships with colleagues you work closely with.

No Drama No Problem
Never get emotionally attached to a boss who is married or has kids. That’s just too much drama you don’t want to add to your plate of office work load. It’s going to rub off the wrong way on your colleagues and could be disastrous to your career.

No PDA!
Keep the sanctity of the workplace sane. No public display of affection allowed. Respect the boundaries of the workplace and keep it simple.

Keep personal squabbles and quarrels private.
Keep your relationship outside the office environment. Don’t wash your dirty laundry in the office space. Your colleagues don’t want to hear you and bae bicker about who left the toilet seat up.

Dating a co-worker is not like your usually boyfriend or girlfriend relationship. This is someone who you work with and will be working with for as long as you both work in the same organization. It can become awkward if you both split and still have to work together. So be sure you are in it for the right reasons.

I have a friend who was in a work romance with a former colleague. They both worked for the same organization but in different departments. The guy left the organization to another organization and the following year they both announced a marriage to the utter surprise of the company staff.

They were able to find love in the workplace and also have their cake and eat it. Why can’t you too?

CelebritiesHow Tiwa Savage, Simi, Niniola Are Leading The Resurgence Of Females In Music by magazineguy(op): 9:33am On Sep 26, 2017
The first three-quarter of the year has been intense in the music industry. Songs have streamed from the hundreds of studios across the country to the mainstream music field, but most of the big jams came from the male artistes. Mad Over You, Come Closer, Fall, If, Penalty are arguably the biggest songs of the first three quarter of the music year. Probingly, not one was recorded by a female artiste, all of those songs were recorded by the guys. In the past, the industry had always been championed by the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, who are all male artistes but the contribution of the female artistes had never been as low as it was in the first quarter of the 2017 music year. Female artistes like Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Chidinma, Omawumi, Waje and co, are known hitmakers but in the said period, none of them was hitting anything.

X3M music songstress, Simi and Project Fame alumna, Niniola took the onus to hoist the flag for the girls. Simi was repping the most, with her impressive Smile 4 me and Joromi, while Nini’s Maradona kept her on music charts and made her one of the hot properties of the music industry. A lot of the other prominent industry ladies were largely inactive and for some, it has been months of musical hiatus. One of the revered female artistes, Waje was missing in action, Chidinma’s music supplies virtually dried up, Tiwa Savage waited till May to put out All Over and Omawumi was struggling to get the fans to relate with her career transitioning. Asa is known to bid her time, but her silence is disturbing at this time, in the Nigerian music industry. The Nigerian music industry has been growing in leaps and bounds with more and more international credits but the ladies weren’t getting any of it. It wasn’t the best of times for the industry ladies and at some point, concerned fans almost kicked off a bring back our girls campaign.

Had things continued that way, maybe we’d have seen placards and markings of the campaign but it appears the industry ladies had a meeting and they resolved to switch things up. In this tail end of the first quarter of the year, our ‘girls’ are back with the songs. Simi set the motion by releasing her 15 track album with 12 of the songs new to the public, Waje’s In The Air dropped quietly, Niniola rolled out a club banger titled Sicker, Tiwa Savage pulled attention to herself with the release of the Sugar Cane EP and it almost feels like there is a female revolution going on in the industry at the moment. Yemi Alade is part of the whole movement and she has made it known that her ‘Black Magic’ album would drop later, in October.

For the music industry these are good signs but for Nigerian female artistes, these sudden rush of activities means more. It means progress for the individual careers of these female artistes, it also means that the industry ladies are joining in the recent advancement of Nigerian & African music to the international front. For instance, Simi’s eponymous album debuted #5 in the world category of the billboard charts. Also, Tiwa Savage’s Sugarcane EP is getting the attention of international figures, especially with the video and social media post of Chris Martin of Cold Play, vibing to and endorsing the Tiwa Savage. The likes of Yemi Alade and perhaps Niniola are expected to add to this push to globalise the African sound, with the release of their projects later in the year and in general, the girls are giving the men, a run for the awards and the accolades.

In the end, the industry is currently popping with heavy sounds and the sounds from our songstresses are among the sounds being heard. It is a good thing for our female artistes and a blessing to their fans that life is breathed back into that section of the industry, especially because it supplies a significant fraction of the music in the genres of RnB, Afro-fusion, alternative music and the likes. However, even though the recent activities of Nigerian female artistes is a boost to their resurgence, it also means that the competition amongst them is heightened. But for the fans and award organisers, it is time to look out for who amongst these songstresses excels the most and deserves to be the Nigerian female artiste of the year, or even win the award for Artiste of the year.

Celebrities5 Reasons Why Peter & Paul Of Psquare Are Better Apart by magazineguy(op): 7:12pm On Sep 25, 2017
The duo of Peter & Paul Okoye [ PSquare ] used to be like two peas of a pod. The two put together, used to record raving songs and then compliment their songs with breathtaking visuals. Their stage performances used to be nothing short of magical and for more than one decade, this twin brothers travelled across Africa and to other parts of the world, entertaining their fans with the gifts of providence. Overtime, fans learnt that one is a better dancer and the other is better at music composition and singing, but it remained entertaining to fans how the two complimented each other. It must have been a union made in heaven and meant to last forever (most fans must have thought).

But a saying goes that, all good things must come to an end. The end of the music partnership between two of Africa’s favourite singing brothers, Peter & Paul Okoye, was confirmed with the recent announcement by Peter that he would be flying a solo career. Peter, the half of the two brothers that appears more social, said that, ‘I am on my own’ and this confirms the suspicion of seething animosity between the two. The confirmatory statement comes, following several signs of discord and rift between the two, like the cancellation of scheduled tours to North American countries and the trade of social media shades.

In the past, groups likes Remedies, Plantashion Boiz, Styl-Plus have split but PSquare looked like one group with an unbreakable bond. It was believed that since the same blood runs through the veins of Peter & Paul Okoye, their bond is thicker and perhaps indestructible. The group managed several bond threatening issues over their long spanning period of togetherness, especially in the later years, and each time they threaten to breakup and then reunite, it seems the bond grows stronger than it was previously. In fact, one could have concluded that the worst of PSquare was in the past until the recent turn of events showed that Peter & Paul are indeed flying away in different directions. Here are 5 reasons I think it is best for Peter & Paul Okoye to pursue their music careers separately:

The PSquare Internal Crisis Is Unending

Before now, PSquare had maintained a near controversy free career for almost two decades and for most part of it, the two brothers maintained a cordial relationship. However, in recent times it seems the two brothers cannot stay away from each other’s throat. It is either it is a rift linked to their wives or squabbles over money or business related issues. Then it graduates to series of social media rants, subliminal messages and shades. Not once, not twice, PSquare was on the brink of breaking up but somehow the brothers find ways to hash out their problems and continue as one entity, albeit not as complimentary as they used to be in their early days. The group has not put on the best form of late and it seems the two brothers are only struggling to keep together a group divided against itself. From the words of Abraham Lincoln and from experience, we know it won’t stand forever.

To Separate Business From Family

There should be the clear line of distinction between family and business. It is usually good for business and it reduces the happenstance of a rift that threatens the family bond. The PSquare relationship has always been a mix of family and business, but they managed it properly for a long period until now. However, the split affords them the opportunity to go about their businesses separately while they still keep their family bond intact (or at least that’s what I expect from them). PSquare can split, with Mr.P (Peter) pushing his music separately and Rudeboy (Paul) doing his thing on his own but it shouldn’t affect the relationship of Peter & Paul Okoye as brothers.

They Can Now Operate As The Individuals That They Are

Fans and lovers of PSquare must have dreaded the time when the two brothers have to split to pursue solo music careers. It is difficult to imagine them as two different characters, as against the one entity that most fans have known them to be over the years. But even with their ties and bond, Peter and Paul are two separate individuals. Two individuals that cannot have the same ideas, perspectives or opinions all the time. There has to be differences in perspectives from time to time between any two persons and for PSquare, these differences have led to this messy situation where dirty linens are dried in the public eye of social media. It is evident that the two feel strongly about opposing views and as such, it has affected their business and personal relationship. If they cannot find common grounds on issues, then it might be better for the two to run their businesses separately but maintain their brotherly relationship.

PSquare As A Group Might Have Reached The Plateau

The duo of Peter & Paul Okoye formed a dominant music force in Africa over the years. The love for the group extends outside of Nigeria to other African countries and even reaches Europe and America. PSquare is a group known for consistent hit musicals and they used to hold the power to lead an expectant audience into wildly cheering group of fans, with their blend of energetic and spirited musical performances. However, the duo have only managed to sustain the tempo they have set for themselves in the past, in the years of continental hit musical releases. Their best musical offerings came in the days when Do Me, Temptation, E no easy, Personally were released. From an objective view, PSquare seems to have reached the plateau of their music career and perhaps Peter & Paul Okoye need to reinvent themselves to be able to compete in this rapidly evolving African music sphere.

Peter & Paul Okoye Need To Reinvent Themselves

Except one is a sycophant, it is agreeable that PSquare offered their best works in the past. Of late, most of their offerings have only been enjoying the ‘PSquare goodwill’ from fans. We must admit that our favourite music group needs a new spark – I’d prefer the word reinvention. Of course I mean something new – a new strategy.

For PSquare splitting and pursuing music careers as individuals might be the new sparks for the two brothers. They do not necessarily have to restrict themselves to being performing artistes. The two brothers are among the richest and most successful artistes in Africa and so, they have the resources to venture into other businesses and the first option they have is the business where they have about fourteen years of experience – the music business. Asides from being performing artistes, Peter & Paul Okoye could function in the position of label executives or they could separately own talent management companies. This would make them work with more new generation artistes and perhaps develop a form of mutually beneficial relationship with these millennials, where either of the two brothers can use there relationship with younger artistes to stay in-tune with the demands of the fans, while they also mentor the younger artiste to prominence.

In the end, the breakup of the PSquare relationship isn’t the end of the road for Peter & Paul Okoye and it is good that they both know this. However, while they chart different courses as artistes, they should maintain a healthy relationship as brothers. Regardless of the differences, the betrayal (maybe) or the cheating; forgiveness and tolerance are important virtues to keep any family together. It’s surprising that I would be saying this to the twin brothers that have delighted music lovers in Africa for over a decade, that above all, family comes first.

CareerMaintaining A More Functional Absence As A Leader In Business by magazineguy(op): 7:49am On Sep 25, 2017
In one my visits to a client office lately, a young CEO who ordinarily should be focusing on the future and adding more to his achievements shocked me by announcing that he is reducing the roles he plays in the company in order to prevent hitches or total shut down in case anything happens to him. Prior to his statement, I’m one of the few persons that strongly believe a business should operate an independent identity from that of its owner and also function independently as well. In the last interview that Rich Tanksley granted TushMagazine, he said “I always try to hire people that are smarter than me, and get the obstacles out of their way, that’s my leadership style.” It’s the only leadership style that can guarantee a business’s growth and progress for a long time with or without a particular leader/individual.

Whatever excuses and fears that will prompt a business owner to actively engage in all the activities of his/her business even till old age or during ill health can be addressed by modern technology. A business leader should function actively while he/she can and also have eyes for competent persons that can surpass his/her own performance when given the chance. A leader is the opposite of a boss, while most leaders command subordinates who happily show loyalty and total dedication to their duties; bosses only succeed at instilling fears in their subordinates which affect performance adversely in their absence.

A leader manages his/her team by identifying potentials and nurturing them fully, it is also easy for a leader to spot talent when choosing those he/she wants to work with. Most great leaders exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence which makes it easier for them to understand and deal with their team on individual bases and thus improving overall productivity.

Romance5 Steps To Staying Friends With Your Ex by magazineguy(op): 8:58am On Sep 22, 2017
Relationships can be the most beautiful thing in the world, but when things like suspicion comes in and bickering starts, then the beauty of the relationship begins to wean off. It isn’t usually easy to rebuild struggling relationships but some lovers manage to rebuild theirs, while many take it to the table and split it in halves. Breakup experiences can be ugly and it could lead to some form of amnesia, especially when a hurt ex starts to think that nothing good ever came from the relationship.

At the point of the break-up, the ex-lovers would have to decide the nature of the association to maintain between them; an ex but still sexing relationship, on talking terms relationship, they could stay friends or choose to be parallel enemies. Primarily, the nature of the relationship would be determined by the cause of the breakup. However, I always recommend that exes should try to stay FRIENDS (if possible). Here are some tips to help you to stay friends with an ex:

Be sure that it’s friendship you want
The early stages of breakups are usually the most confusing part. That’s the stage when you’re not sure whether the decision to breakup is right or it is simply a result of overreaction. You’d still find most people trying to convince themselves that the relationship can be fixed, some people struggle with the doubt of finding a new lover. So they’d keep a one leg in-one leg out relationship with their ex. You’d hear them say, ‘I’m with my ex until I find someone new.’ No!! That’s the first way of playing yourself. The proper thing to do is to first accept that something was wrong with the relationship. When you’re sure that it is beyond repair, settle for the option of friendship with your ex (depending on the kind of person, some people just won’t have it). In case the ‘become friends’ option isn’t working, take time apart. Use that time to structure a happy life without your ex – meet people, read, add new hobbies and anything else you find engaging and interesting. Be patient with the recovery process and at every stage, protect your happiness.

Restore contact with your ex and be patient
After finding peace with the situation and putting life back in motion, restoring contact with your ex is a safe thing to do. But note that restoring contact with an ex is not as easy as making a new friend. You must understand that the situation is different. With an ex, it’s usually a situation of a love-turn-hurt that you’re trying to mend. Your ex might still have bad blood which might cause him/her to make bated actions and reactions. You should be tolerant and transactional but aware. It is good to try to mend fences but don’t crumble under the weight of it. Keep it cool and get your ex to come to terms that you’re better as friends.

Agree to be friends but don’t flirt
When you’re meeting a new person, the line between being friendly and flirting is like a thin rope but with an ex, the line is even thinner, it is like a thread. So you two must agree to be FRIENDS, nothing more. Besties? No! – at least, not yet. Keep everything involving your ex in the friend zone. Make your chats and conversations light, don’t start to play the ‘boo’ role, remember you’re just a friend. It is possible that in the process, you’d find out that your ex has found a new love, yes, let it be. Don’t hate and don’t start to feel bad, remember you’ve moved on.

If you have to meet-up with your ex, make non-romantic plans. Meet at public places not home visits that’d end up in the bedroom. I won’t advice late night hangouts too or clubbing or alcohol sessions, especially when you don’t trust your ex to keep to the agreement of keeping it on friend’s level.

Don’t start to create false hope
Oh he is sweet’, ‘she is beautiful beyond words’, ‘I can’t keep my composure around my ex’. These things won’t help, most times they even compound problems. You need to keep hold of your head in all of these, you need to be in control and look out for yourself and for your long-term happiness. Don’t switch to old patterns of frequent text or calls or visits to ‘usual’ hangout spot or perform the ‘boo’ rites. These things can be misleading. They can lead one to commit to an ex that is only waiting for another partner to move on with.

False hopes of recreating the love spark leads to unhealthy heartbreaks. Let it stick that you only owe each other friendship, it is safer that way. Don’t wait till you find out that the light at the end of the tunnel is the headlight of an oncoming train.

Know when to pull out
This is the cover of the book, the polish to the wood and the garnishment on the food. Make conscious attempt at staying friends with your ex but don’t lose yourself in the process. Either of you two can start to develop false hope and become too attached, that’s the time to draw the line, especially when you’re not convinced re-dating that person is in your best interest. Don’t do it out of pity or out of being lonely. Don’t force the friendship. If things are going better than planned and you two have genuinely learnt lessons and you’re EQUALLY committed to making things work as it were or even better, making slow shifts towards reigniting the relationship is advisable but if not, friendship is fine but if your ex becomes too much to handle, block him/her. Friendship is not by force.

Jobs/VacanciesThe Best Way To Get A Job In Lagos by magazineguy(op): 7:44am On Sep 21, 2017
The Nigerian job market is over populated. Thousands of Nigerian youth graduate every year and there are not enough companies or facilities to manage their knowhow. Job sites and portals have the highest traffic activity with both employed and unemployed citizens looking for jobs and opportunities.

A lot of people spend months on end sending their CVs online and most of them never get a call back. Employers have their systems literarily crashing down due to the magnimity of CVs sent in by hopeful candidates.

The whole process ultimately gets tiring and overbearing. The bills keep piling and your needs get even harder to meet.

The truth is your first degree doesn’t matter, everyone has it. The job market is over populated with first and second class holders. Internships are easy to get, everyone has it. You are not the smartest person in your skill set. But you can have the upper hand by bypassing everything everyone has to something not enough people have – Connects.

The value of your net worth is qualified by your network. Who you know and who knows you is an important determinant to how far you will go in securing your next job.

Lagos like any other mega city in the world is populated with people who have big dreams to become more than what they are. But reaching the dream and aspiration can come with grave consequences of failure, disappointments and failed promises. But for everyone who made it out alive, they needed someone or more to accomplish the fit – network.

Go out. Leave the comfort of your home and meet people in places where individuals in your career path link up. Go for seminars… network with the individuals you meet there, find out who they are and what they do and seek for ways you can help them solve a need in their industry. Everyone is open to people who can help them solve a problem or a need. If you can be resourceful to them, then you have a foot in the door.

Connect with your mentors. Everyone has a mentor or someone who inspires them. Reach out to them all, be open to learning and working with them on projects that will help grow your experience. Connect with people with similar skill set on LinkedIn and seek for ways where you all can work together on projects and help each other out.

Still keep your options open on the lookout for jobs in your field you can apply to on job sites, LinkedIn and references. Try everything and never take anything for granted. During this waiting period, keep busy and learn more. Your next big job opportunity is around the corner. Goodluck.

Career3 Things Young People Really Want From Employers by magazineguy(op): 7:25am On Sep 19, 2017
Every well-oiled workforce machine has its share of millennials. Millennials (born since 1980) make up 24 percent of the entire world population ranging in age from their late 20s to early 30s, according to Nielsen research. With this generation of workers comes a unique set of needs, demands and challenges that must be met to keep your company running at its best.

The millennial generation isn’t as mysterious and puzzling as many business owners and managers have been lead to believe. If you want to attract and retain millennial talent, here aree three top things millennials look for from their next employer when settling on their next job or workplace:

1. Flexible schedules and benefits.

One out of every three millennial employees say a flexible work schedule is crucial to their satisfaction when working for a small business. That increased autonomy allows millennial employees to build their work around their lives.

Their desire for flexibility also extends to benefits. That’s where options such as Aflac’s voluntary insurance policies come in, which give employees the opportunity to have supplemental insurance that pays cash benefits. Millennials are looking for the best coverage without breaking their budget, which is why offering voluntary insurance is a great option for employers.

2. Seeing the fruits of their labor.

This generation of hyper-connected and socially networked young people is hardwired to look for instant gratification. According to surveyed employees, 21 percent said that seeing the fruits of their labor was an important factor that lead to their overall satisfaction at work.

In other words, seeing the results of their hard work and having it acknowledged goes a long way.

3. Millennials want their input to matter.

Also important for this ever-connected generation is the sense that their contributions are making a difference in your business. They want to take ownership over their work and feel like they’re part of a bigger goal or mission.

Make sure to communicate to your employees that their input doesn’t just matter—it’s crucial to the very success of your business.

The Nigerian movie industry is not a small circle. It might be generally called Nollywood, but an observant follower would know that Nollywood has several constituent parts. Nollywood is only the umbrella body for the different sub-sectional movie producing industries, which are majorly differentiated by dialects and cultural influences.

Among the many sections of Nollywood, the Yoruba movie industry and the English speaking movie department of the Industry are the leading components. From these units of the industry, a lot of proudly Nigerian movies are being produced. So also, a lot of other successes of Nollywood over the years can be attributed to the high level of activities going on in these spheres.

BusinessHow To Stay Sane Building A Business In Lagos by magazineguy(op): 12:44pm On Sep 16, 2017
If you own a business in Lagos, or are trying to set one up, the chances are that someone has already told you that you are mad. I am here to confirm what you were told: yes you are mad. You are either currently mad, or will be in the future. This is what running a business in Lagos does to you.

Surely there has to be a better way? Yes! You could postpone your Estimated Touch Day (ETD — the day your head finally touches and you go coocoo), or reduce the effects of an already messed up mental condition. Either way, your family needs you, so it’s important to learn how to stay sane in Lagos, while building your business.

Find and maintain cashflow.

This is the king of all business advices — but especially in Lagos. Credit is super expensive, so it’s very important to maintain some liquidity for the sake of your sanity. Put away a part of your receivables to form a rainy day fund for the business. Your rainy day fund should be about the amount needed to fund one or two payroll cycles.

Nobody is your friend.

Not the government, not the tax man, not the auditor, not the client. The guys listed are only the official ones — your success or failures might depend on ensuring some people who have never been mentioned in a business book are happy. Think of all these guys whenever you’re running your numbers. That’s how you ensure none of them stiffs you. Actually, you’ll only manage damage limitation, because they will stiff you.

In my last job, I used to oversee imports and distribution, and every time our containers came in, we had to pay off police, area boys, guys on the street, local chiefs etc. Every Christmas, the chief of the area boys would come over, sit with my boss for drinks, while we put together a Christmas package for him.

Request a pre-payment for everything.

Running a business in Nigeria is special — there is literally no credit system that works for small/medium sized businesses. Please don’t mention the banks. Or the government run funds — they’re not scalable to meet the needs of businesses. Your clients will owe you. A lot! So always request prepayment. You may have to fight, especially with the big corporates who have 30–60 day payment lead times.

Yes, big corporates owe a lot. I’ve seen a guy practically go out of business because a big telco owed over N200 million, and he’d borrowed to finance the deals they were owning on. I’ve seen 60 days become 360 days, and a contract signed at N160/$1 become N300/$1. A pre-payment helps you hedge against some of these things.

There’s the other one — people you know, owing for goods and services. That’s the one that hurts. The friend that owes you a few million, but just bought a new Mercedes (true story) is very real. It’s best to have a no-debt policy with friends, but if you can’t, collect that 60% pre-payment. Easier to cut your losses from that position.

Document everything.

This one goes without saying, but still needs to be said. Document everything because you’ll likely need receipts later. Even when a process is documented centrally, you need to keep your own records, because you could start adding word of mouth updates to the agreements midway, and you’ll be stiffed on that later on.

I once advanced money into a multi-player deal that was supposed to be refunded as soon as all players got their cashflow in order. Because the deal was based on a gentleman’s agreement, I lost the entire thing when the deal went south. Which brings me to the next point…

Know a few military boys. Or Area Boys. Or both.

This point is one that brings a lot of moral conflict, but Lagos is like a hyper-catalyzed rainforest — lots of predators and prey. There’s always someone trying to eat you, or take advantage of you. Eventually, someone is going to succeed, and take advantage of you.

Like the guy you paid to deliver a service, and he comes back with the story that he invested the money in some scheme that promised huge returns, but was duped, and he’s his mother’s only child, so he begs in the name of Jesus (even though he’s Muslim) and that you should forgive and forget like you’re not talking about a few million Naira.

This is where knowing certain people has value. No, you’re not going have them beaten up, subtly letting your guy know these people exist to your benefit could help resolve things faster than courts, I’ve come to learn.

Don’t let appearances deceive you.

Lagos is built on appearances. Most Lagosians are just trying to pepper dem, or showing off their best side, so don’t let the fancy car deceive you into giving unsecured credit.

Don’t cheat on hiring.

You always need to think about the opportunity cost of hiring poorly. The low wage staff you hire could and likely will cost you.

Drink. Or find a habit.

Everyone has heard drinking is the only way to stay sane in Lagos. This is not a myth. Think of it as a race through a jungle — if you survive, what do you do? Of course not everyone is open to poisoning themselves, so an alternative advice would be to to find a healthy habit as an out.

If you can, don’t work with friends.

I should just say don’t work with friends, but exceptions exist. But most times, working with friends end in tears, both on the business and client side. We just haven’t quite learned to work with our friends. Doing business with your friends often makes it difficult to compartmentalize the two relationships. Best avoided if possible.

Learn to say no.

Saying no is hard. If you are worried about how people will feel if you turned them down, remember it’s always worse when you disappoint them. I had to learn this the hard way, ruining a perfectly good relationship along the way.

Take care of yourself.

Everything is out to kill you. If you need someone to tell you to invest in the things that bring you happiness, then you probably deserve to die. Seriously, take care of yourself. If you did indeed die, the world would move on. In fact, this being Lagos, ‘they’ could even host an owambe at your funeral.

Pray! You’ll need it.

If you have more tips for surviving running a business in Lagos, please share. We all need them.

Career5 Reasons Why You Deserve A Work Spouse by magazineguy(op): 4:46pm On Sep 14, 2017
Everyone deserves a work environment that feels as warm as home and as comforting as the charm of a good friend. That is why YOU need a work spouse [husband/wife] in your workspace.

A work spouse is a co-worker with whom you share a close relationship and bond with. A colleague whose intentions towards you are pure and as sure as the rising sun.

Truth be told, you need an office BFF!

Don’t go looking for a work spouse because you might end up shooting yourself in the foot. Give it time, understand your work environment and colleagues and when your spouse comes, they will fit perfectly like a glove.

Not everyone will have one. But here are the reasons why YOU deserve one.

You need TRUST!
Work places are like the wild life. You are never certain of who to trust and who has the best possible intentions towards you. You are always looking over your shoulder, hoping to sight the dagger before it lands. A work spouse is the calm in the storm.

You trust this person enough to share your work struggles and limitations with and the person is always on hand to help you with finding solutions.

Finally, someone gets YOU, Yes!
Imagine being in a work environment where you feel you don’t fit perfectly. Like your first day in high school … you haven’t earned your sit at the table yet.

Having a work BFF who totally gets you and your insecurities will go a long way with you settling fully in your work environment. A work BFF who is able to make you laugh, goof up and still help you achieve optimum productivity in the work place is pure gold.

You can Vent all you want!
When you are irritated or have grievances that has you peach red, a work spouse is the to-go place to VENT. Just let it flow

You missed your deadline? A work colleague is sitting on your last nerve? Your boss gives another of the many insurmountable expectations?… Whatever it is, your work spouse is there for support to lend an ear and a shoulder to lean on. You can talk to your work spouse about them all and leave all that bad energy behind while you go home calm and collected.

Get you a work spouse!

No competition.
There is nothing as calming and as relieving as having to not be in a competition with anyone especially a colleague. In an environment where you are trying to meet deadlines, outperform the rest of the team so as to win the employer of the month plaque or a raise for a down payment of the house, a work spouse increases productivity by not being a competition but a support system.

You are not alone in this. You have support from someone who is willing to chip in and enable you with tools to increase work productivity.

I love Mondays!
Most people never end up finding the perfect work spouse. Some enter into one chance and end up with the worst of the worst but for the lucky few who end up having work BFFs, work becomes the best place to be everyday of the week.

With work colleagues Mondays couldn’t come any faster!

Work becomes more light weight and the best feeling in the world is walking into the building looking forward to meeting your BFF who has plastered on their face the perfect smile.

Their utter honesty, support, understanding and friendship are the perfect therapy to any stiff work environment.

NB: Never mix business with pleasure. Do not spoil a perfectly good relationship by putting SEX in the mix. The moment you do that you have ruined an almost perfect relationship. It’s like mixing crude oil in perfectly made noodle soup or jollof rice.

I have had very good work colleagues in the past and I still remain in very close communication with them. We maintain a very strong and supportive bond.

HealthEmergency Treatment For Toothache by magazineguy(op): 9:22am On Sep 14, 2017
Treatment of a toothache starts with locating the bad tooth. Let the patient open their mouth so that you can investigate the area. A dental mirror and dental pick are good tools to start with. First, you will carefully look around for any obvious hole or fracture. If there is nothing that you can see, however, you may still have serious decay between teeth or below the gums. So how do you tell which tooth is the problem if you don’t see anything obvious? Do this: Touch the teeth in the area of the toothache with something cold. The bad tooth will be very sensitive to cold. Now, touch it with something hot. If there is no sensitivity to heat, the tooth is salvageable.

A tooth that is, likely, beyond hope will cause significant pain when you touch it with something hot (only touch the tooth). It will continue to hurt for 10 seconds or so after you remove the heat source. This is because the nerve has been irreversibly damaged. Once the nerve is damaged at the level of the root, you might not feel either hot or cold. It will, however, be painful to even the slightest touch.

The basis of modern dentistry is to save every tooth if at all possible and not allowing the rest get affected. In the old days (not biblical times, I mean 50 years ago), the main treatment for a diseased tooth was extraction. If we find ourselves in an embarrassing situation, that’s how it will be in the future. If you delay extracting a severely decayed tooth, it will likely get worse. Decay could spread to other teeth or cause an infection that could spread to your bloodstream (called “sepsis”) and cause major damage.

The important thing to know is this: 90% of all dental emergencies can be treated by extracting the teeth.

BusinessRe: 6 Evaluation Methods For Business Growth by magazineguy(m): 7:40am On Sep 11, 2017
mantosa:
Entrepreneurs should adopt the act of evaluating the performance of their businesses frequently in order to ascertain the level of growth and identify the areas where improvement is required. The SWOT analysis can be useful at any stage of business to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The business owner can always try once in a while to check the milestone he/she has achieved, the customers the business has been able to amass and retain, and the revenue it has accrued over time – this is called evaluation. The entrepreneur can also carry out evaluation of:

Cost and Revenue
The entrepreneur should have depth knowledge of how cost and revenue relate in business. He/she must always be in a position to always break even quicker and make profits.

Customer Satisfaction
Customers satisfaction is the best way of sustaining a business, a business cannot retain a dissatisfied customer. Therefore, it is very important for an entrepreneur to often measure how satisfied his/her customers are.

Employee Satisfaction
Your employees are partners in progress and must be satisfied and motivated to work towards achieving goals at all times. Career prospect, incentives and training opportunities are part of the things that enhance employee satisfaction.

Goals Achieved
Evaluating how successful a business is when it comes to achieving its set goals within a specific period of time reveals a lot about its growth.

Gain in Market Share
If a business can work on increasing its market share in the industry within which it operates, there is a possibility that it can lead the industry. In Jeff Bezzos words, he said “market leadership can translate directly to higher revenue, higher profitability, greater capital velocity, and correspondingly stronger returns on invested capital”.

Measuring Competitive Advantage
A business should be ready with strategies and innovation that will enable it to compete effectively. Competitive advantage can also be evaluated always in order to avoid failure or loss of market share.

Romance10 Reasons Your Crush Is Not Perfect For You by magazineguy(op): 11:56am On Sep 07, 2017
Everyone has had a crush once or even multiple times in their lives and it’s good. Moreover we are humans and open to appreciating the beauty of the world.

People who have had crushes in the past can testify that everything is different whenever their crush is around. Time seems to slow as this person walks in slow motion. The air smells different …

The truth is one never knows why they are crushing on someone, the real reason remains a mystery and this mystery breeds an interest. That was how curiosity killed the cat… innit?!

I have had crushes in the past and I can tell you they did not work out… why? I have all the reasons in the following paragraphs that follow. If a crush was heaven sent why didn’t yours work out for you?

One-sided attraction
For a relationship to work, both parties have to be in it to WIN it. When you initially like a crush, feelings most of the time is one-sided. This person has no idea you feel what you feel for them and so there is no room for reciprocation in this love or lust attraction.

Interests
When you eventually walk up the courage to talk to this person and hangout, you realize that you both don’t share the same interests or views on life. Now you are stuck in a dilemma – walk up strength and move on or pretend to like what they like and remain empty.

Self absorbed
Your crush and the world they live revolve only around themselves. Everything else in the world is of no consequence. Even you.

When someone likes or fancies you the way you do for them, their number one priority is getting to know you and everything about you. If you meet someone who doesn’t ask questions about you in a bid to get to know you better, the person doesn’t care for you.

One of the guys
This is the worst place you could ever hope to be in especially with someone you plan to be romantically attached to. If a crush zones you, just forget it. You have reached a point of no return.

Body language is silent
Your crush is not as excited as you are to see them or be around them. They don’t even pretend to make you happy. Whenever you both link up in the same circles, privately or in public their body language is flat.

For the sake of self esteem and self worth, keep it moving!

No engagement
Communication with your crush is very bland and unengaging. You are the one who always starts up the conversation and it is always monosyllabic no matter the mood.

Perfection
In a world of no perfection, there are people who continually seek it even though they also fall short. Anyone who doesn’t accept you for who you are isn’t worth giving a second thought to.

Excuses
When you constantly make excuses for their horrible actions because deep down you are a good person and seek to also find the good in people. But if you won’t call a snake a snake instead say it’s hissing because it has no teeth well … it’s your bed you might as well sleep on it.

Don’t Change Me
Change is constant if it’s for good. When you start being around someone who wants you to become someone you are not and every time you look in the mirror you find yourself looking for the real you, they are NOT perfect for you.

The truth is when we fall for someone who is good for us; they instantly make us want to be better – yes, for them, but also for ourselves. Don’t lose yourself looking for love acceptance.

Red Flag
If you spot a red flag it needs to be addressed. Whatever the red flag is from privacy to overly flirty or emotionally locked. If you avoid addressing the issue it is going to affect you later on in the long run. If you sense something that doesn’t sit well with you, it is probably a thing of great worry.

Jobs/Vacancies4 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Desperate When Job Hunting by magazineguy(op): 2:52pm On Sep 06, 2017
A lot of times, we get carried away by the harsh economic climate of our country to become desperate in our job search. Approaching job searches with the mindset “I don’t care what kind of job I get — I just need a job!,” can cost you a lot that you may not be able to cope with in the future. In job searches, you come across different kinds of people with different personalities and you never know how each of them process the emotions you place on the table. While some employers may overlook it especially because they have been in your position before, other employers can be simply sent from the devil to make your life a living hell

Below are reasons why you do not want to be desperate in a job search:

You are giving employers a reason to disrespect you
Of course we do not mean that your employers are meant to roll over on their knees and kiss your feet while hailing “long live thou” when they come across you, just a little measure of respect and value for your work will be fine, but once you come off as desperate in your interviews, you are sure not going to get that value and respect you seek.

Fearful managers
As a desperate job seeker, you would attract fearful managers who feel the need to insult/abuse employers they supervise. And most of them would just be doing it for fun, to see the look on your face especially since they know you have no where else to go.

Time wasting
Someone once told me about how they spent 8 years in recruitment line for a job and all I could think about was the fact that the employers did that because the job seeker had shown signs of desperation.

Low pay
When you appear desperate, employers can see that you most probably do not have any other options and then decide to offer you lesser pay than you are actually worth. Some people even go as far as telling their employers to pay them anything. Anything is nothing!! As a job seeker, you should know your worth, and place a value on yourself, which remains even in the face of hopelessness.

Confidence and composure are the most important traits you need in your job search than work history or education. You teach people how to treat you in a job search based on how you treat yourself. Attitude is everything!

Romance8 Things You Shouldn’t Do On A First Date As A Lady by magazineguy(op): 4:22pm On Sep 05, 2017
A couple of years back I think it’s safe to say that Nigerians were not even going on real dates. But now, things have changed we are evolving with the times (thank God) still though, the idea of dating seems to be taken for granted. Both parties don’t always know how to conduct themselves. Here are a few tips to make sure the first date goes well and you actually get a chance at a second date.

Never Split The Bill On A First Date

It’s only normal that the guy pays the bill for the first date. It’s tradition. Most likely, he asked for the date, so he should foot the bill. Also it makes him seem like less of a loser. Subsequent dates of course, there’s nothing wrong with splitting the bill and ladies footing the bills every once in a while.

Do Not Talk About Your Ex

This is a huge red flag. It signals to the other person that maybe you are not entirely over your ex and that will cause problems later in the relationship if it proceeds to that.

Do Not Over Order

A lot of ladies feel when someone asks them on a date then automatically that person is ready to spend all his life savings on them. They order what they’ll eat there, order for their friends and siblings and even their cats. Please don’t do this. It gives you a bad name and of course chances for a second date is zero.

Don’t Not Kiss

The “no kissing on the first date” rule should be strictly adhered to as it is very vital. Of course you don’t plan these things. But a lot of guys expect that after the first date they should be able to get a kiss. This is wrong. Let the mood show you. And maybe a kiss on the forehead or the cheek after the date to be more gentlemanly. Please don’t try and force your tongue down her throat on the first date.

Don’t Try Too Hard

Relax and let it happen. Just be yourself. If you try too hard, you will end up saying or doing things that you’ll most likely regret.

Don’t Go With Your Friend

Seems absurd but yes, this happens. Ladies tend to take their friends with them on dates. This immediately sends the message that you are only out for what you can get and not ready to be serious. So please, leave your friends at home.

Don’t Text Or Pick Calls

This should go without saying. Texting and talking while with someone is downright rude and shouldn’t be done. If you get a call and it’s important, politely take excuse to answer the call and keep it short.

Dress Appropriately

Dress according to the location of or date. If it’s a dinner date to somewhere fancy, wear a dress. If it’s to the movies, a pair of jeans etc.

BusinessWhy Business Interest Is Important For Business Success by magazineguy(op): 8:37am On Sep 04, 2017
Interest is what controls all our actions and direction of efforts. Interest culminates into passion and fuels the drive to succeed at certain things. While reading an article about certain young lady who grew a bead business that she started with about N5,000 into a N10m worth empire shows how our interest fuels success.

Analytically our designer shoes, clothes, accessories, expensive phones and gadgets (not saying we shouldn’t treat ourselves to such luxury) are worth business capitals but we have centered our attention on raising big capitals in millions before venturing into business which results in colossal loss as a result of unpreparedness and haphazard planning. Another big puzzle is understanding where your interest lies, some persons have interest in events, education, entertainment, arts, sports, publishing, agriculture, services, production in small or large scales etc., while others have interest in different areas. It is not a thing of worry if you have varying interest, you might as well be cut out to become a serial entrepreneur.

There is always something that attracts our attention and makes us pay keen interest when it pops into topics of discussion or news. When one is able to discover something that should be considered as a potential area of business, it is required that the necessary skills needed should be acquired; mentor-ship or apprenticeship can be arranged for in order to acquire first hand experience in all areas of activities involved in the business.

In the absence of a mentor or any form of guidance, one can still take the bull by the horn and accept all the challenges and failures as a learning process and an avenue for accumulating experience. Some persons don’t just offer catering, fashion or any other vocational related services but runs catering or fashion schools teaching others how to start and succeed at these businesses as a result of the knowledge they acquired only from experience.

CelebritiesMI Abaga: The Glory Days, The Hiatus & The Coming Victory by magazineguy(op):
The most dreaded period in the career of artistes s the period of little change, when effort is intense but result is flat. It is the period when artistes reach the plateau, after a period of progress, such that the successes of the past cannot be improved upon or even maintained. This period is a period of torture for both the artiste and the fans, because in this period, the nostalgia of the glory days becomes increasingly haunting with every failed attempt to recreate the wave of success.

From experience, most successful artistes drop to this low period at some point, usually the only difference is in how long they stay at their peak, away from the low ebb, before the eventuality of it. Top artistes like Lil Wayne, T-Pain have been there and are making effort to stage a major comeback. Nigerian rapper, MI is in the dreaded corner at the moment and he has been struggling to make the headlines for the right reasons – like it was in the days when he dropped ground breaking projects.

For the rapper, 2017 has been stamped with controversies and the many times that he was the trending subject, it was either for reneging on a promise made to an upcoming artiste or for sparking the anger of moral upholders for taking a stance against the anti-gay law. To think that the best of MI – the Safes, Nobodys, African Rapper Number Ones and the likes would only exist in hindsight, is out of sorts. Having to face the possibility that the Short Black Boy might have exhausted his reservoir of quality musical offerings, is equally unnerving. I mean this is an artiste that was to the Nigerian music industry, what Kanye West was to the music community in US.

However, the good breakfast of hope lies in the fact it is not uncommon for great acts to make a strong climb after a flat fall. Soccer player, Wayne Rooney is on the path to reawakening his career and playing top level soccer again, with his back-to-back goals for his new club, after enduring a drab career period. In a similar way, the recent announcement of the completion of his album and the bold tweet invitations to South African rapper Casper Nyovest and Maybach Music Group (MMG) patron, Rick Ross, might be the springboard needed to shoot ‘Mr Incredible’ back to the prime of the music industry.

The central question is – ‘how does MI plan to give a lift to his career?’ If the records are allowed to speak for themselves, then his resurgence is imminent, when his unreleased projects start to hit the market. MI has proven that he cannot get it wrong when it comes to album compilation. He holds an impeccable reputation of putting out series of market-friendly Hip-hop projects and so, putting out a number of singles and then a follow-up album, could be an effective rebirth strategy for him.

Apparently, the problem has never been that his album suffered a low-market score but it has been his ‘promise and fail’ habit about dropping projects. His followers should have lost count of his promised but yet unreleased projects, by now. At different times, the news of the Love EP, Yung Denzel projects have found their way to public hearing but the high hand of the Chocolate City management seems to have held back the release of the projects. But that option seems far from them now, with MI’s delicate career depending so much on how soon and how well his musical offerings drops. Clearly, he needs to put out a body of work and already he seems to have the material with the viral effect. For his forthcoming album; the Casper Nyovest’s collaboration is done and done, Rick Ross’ might come through soon and then the public can start to make preparations for the superstar rap’s return to his peak.
