A former Governor of Rivers State, now Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has again, claimed that he has nothing to do with money. Amaechi said that even people that criticise him in Rivers State know he has a good reputation, adding that he does not indulge in alcohol or cigarette.
The former governor, who spoke with us, said he has the moral standing to criticise members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for allegedly looting the nation for almost 16 years because he was not corrupt.

“I ask people ‘what do I need money for?’ I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I am not the one with luxurious houses and cars and it is like what I said when I became governor. I said Nigerian politicians actually commit what they call manslaughter, which is killing by accident when you don’t have intention to kill. How do we politicians kill by accident?
“The money that is meant for the people and earmarked to be used for building hospitals, you take it for your private use and the hospitals are not built and so Nigerians go to hospitals where there are no drugs and they die without knowing it. For me, you have committed manslaughter and the problem for me is that Nigerians don’t hold us accountable!”

Jim Nwobodo, a former old Anambra governor, has revealed some events that happened during the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

A former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, relives the victory of the Super Eagles in Atlanta Olympics of 1996 and how he saved Kanu Nwankwo from Coach Westerhof.
The Super Eagles won the gold medal in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 when you were the Sports Minister.

Can you share with us the story of what happened then?
They (Super Eagles) beat Japan, beat Brazil and also beat other big teams. That was the time we had wonderful players. You can only know the best team when they go out of the country and play the best teams in the world. Mikel Obi is playing in China and there are other young boys like Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho and many others.


There is one thing I like about Nigerian football. Nigerians are football lovers, there is no doubt about that and football has the ability to unite Nigerians.
I remember very well the 1996 event when we played in Atlanta Olympics. Nigeria was a pariah nation. The day we reached the climax was the day Nigeria met Brazil. We had a very strong team, those who were determined to do their best to make Nigeria proud.


Two things happened that day. We got into the field and, in the first half, they (Brazil) were leading Nigeria by 3-1. I sat by the side of then – FIFA President, Joao Havelange, a Brazilian lawyer, businessman and athlete who served as the 7th FIFA President from 1974 to 1998 and I told him we will beat Brazil and he started laughing because we were two goals down.


Half time break pep talk
During the half time break, I went to our boys in the dressing room and called them one by one, starting with Sunday Oliseh, then Daniel Omokachi, Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Celestine Babayaro and others. I urged them not to disgrace me and Nigerians and they assured me that they will beat Brazil. I then called the coach, Clemens Westerhof, who complained that Kanu was not playing well and that he would remove him.

I ordered him not to remove the young man. I threatened to sack him if he removed Kanu. He complied with my order and allowed Kanu to play in the second half. In the second half, Okocha scored the second goal, making it 2-3; another goal was scored by Kanu to make it 3-3 and second half ended. In the extra time, we had what is called the golden goal then and, five minutes after, Kanu scored the golden goal and the match ended. Everyone was surprised but God was at work and I heard Him (God) when I said Kanu should not be removed.

Kanu became the man of the match. We were excited and many whites and many Africans, who did not know about the Dream Team, started painting themselves in green white green. I was also told that families that were not in talking terms for ten years reconciled because of that match.


Sweet victory
Then – Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who was not in the habit of answering telephone calls, called almost all of us, including my wife. He did not stop there. He had to wait for us alongside some state governors for two days under the rain at the City Gate, Abuja when we returned to Nigeria and that was what that victory did to Nigeria. What a sweet victory!


The second thing that happened was that Chioma Ajunwa told me that she and other Nigerian athletes were yet to be paid their 300 dollars per day on the day she would compete. I saw reason with her but I told her it was a very small amount. I promised her that I will give her 10,000 dollars if she won a gold medal, she was shocked. I advised her to go for the long jump if she was good at that. Her first jump earned her gold medal for Nigeria and I gave her 10,000 dollars. This thing is about leadership and encouraging people around you.


So, sport, in itself, is something that, if properly developed, will bring the country together. Look at what sport is doing in the world today. If you are a sports administrator, you are known all over the world. FIFA President is bigger that any President in the world. My worry is that Nigeria has not given proper attention to sports.
What is your rating of journalists in Nigeria?
Nigeria has the freest press in the world; journalists write anything and get away with it and they hold people accountable and nobody can fight them. In Nigeria, I can say that we have a very free and strong press. I really don’t see anything wrong with what they are doing, except that they should always get their facts right.


What is your take on employers owing workers?
Any employer that owes his workers should not expect them to be loyal to him. Such could expose workers to temptation because they have to take care of themselves and their families. It is not good to owe your workers; whether they are journalists, footballers, civil servants, you don’t need to owe them. Workers deserve their wages. So it is not good at all. You should do everything possible not to owe your workers.


What about state governments owing workers?
I mean it’s unfair. It is ungodly and unchristian. If you don’t pay workers, what do you want them to do? In fact, when I was governor, I didn’t have anything as salary arrears. Throughout my stay in Government House, I never owed anybody for one month because one thing you do as a leader is to pay your workers before any other thing. That is the first charge and, from there, you motivate them to work harder.


So, any governor that owes workers for months is not fit to be a governor. Although, some governors have said that the problem about payment of salaries stems from the many problems confronting them, that argument does not hold water because you can still sit down and arrange your budget to make the recurrent less than the capital. You give capital budget priority over recurrent.

A 14-year old girl who was declared missing in Lagos unknown to her parents was actually inside their 43-year old neighbour’s room for two days and later confessed enjoying cex romps during the period.


The victim revealed that she was comfortable and that was why she did not disclose where she was despite the fact that she knew her parents were looking for her.
The incident happened at Suberu Oje Avenue by Casso bus stop in Alagbado, Lagos where they resided.


However, the neighbour, Mr. Olaniyi Lawal, has landed in trouble after he released the victim and she told her parents that she was with Mr. Lawal for those days and had cex. The matter was reported to the police and Lawal was arrested for abduction and rape.
It was gathered that the parents suffered serious trauma when the victim disappeared as they thought she had been kidnapped and reported to the police.


The neighbours including Lawal and the police formed search parties who were looking for the missing girl until she returned to her parents and revealed what happened.
It was gathered that the parents were angry that Lawal joined them in searching for the missing girl whereas he kept her inside his room and exploited her by having uninterrupted cex with her. He denied abducting the victim and claimed that he did not rape her as alleged by her parents.


However, the police found him culpable because of the age of the victim and charged Lawal before Ogba Magistrates court for the offence.
The prosecutor, Inspector Donny Raphael, informed the court that Lawal abducted the victim, kept her inside his room and defiled her.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered that Lawal be remanded in prison custody.


The court directed the prosecutor to send the file to DPP for advice and then adjourned till 9th September, 2018.
It was gathered that if the DPP finds Lawal culpable and he was tried and found guilty, he will have to spend so many years in prison for the offence.

Davido currently has over seven million followers on Instagram, which makes him the most followed Nigerian on the photo sharing platform.

Two Instagram users, @kinglucyy and @amarabiish have questioned the originality of the ‘Aye’ crooner’s followers, insinuating that most of his followers might have been fake or cloned followers instead of real people and their reasoning, which they claimed was a result of intensive research and analysis, is based on the number of likes and comments the Nigerian pop idol gets, compared to his arch rival, Wizkid’s.
@kinglucyy claims he counted the number of likes of one Davido’s post which saw over a thousand in 5 minutes and was surprised, after his manual counting that it was actually 217 likes, and not 1000 as stated.
Read his post: “Truth is Davido has 7M followers and Wizkid has 5.6M followers but Wizkid has more likes on his posts than Davido.
“Now listen to this: One day Davido posted a picture and within 5 minutes it had 1000 comments, a friend of mine counted and it was exactly 217 at that moment, he told Davido about it .

“And immediately he told him Davido blocked him. His argument is that, with Davido having almost 1.5 million more followers than Wizkid, his posts should get more responses and not the other way round.”
It is a common knowledge that entertainers and brand influencers buy followers to boost their status.
But it is inconceivable that someone of Davido’s popularity would toe that line. And another Instagram user @thickerbody-9ja responded to @kinglucyy’s claims in defence of Davido
“Wizkid doesn’t post often, so each time he posts, he is sure to get more engagements than Davido. Because Davido posts almost everyday, most of his followers may not care to like or comment sometimes. Social media pages work differently for everyone.

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has approved the appointment of Mr. Yekini Nabena as the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party.


The appointment was contained in a letter issued on Wednesday in Abuja and signed by the National Secretary of the party, Mr. Mai Mala Bunu.
It said the appointment followed the resignation of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Abudullahi, who defected to the Peoples’ Democratic Party earlier on Wednesday.





“I write to convey the resolution of the National Working Committee reached at its 34th regular meeting of August 1, 2018, mandating you to resume duty as the Acting National Publicity Secretary with immediate effect.


“This development is sequel to the resignation of Malam Bolaji Abudullahi as the National Publicity Secretary,” the letter said.
It wished Nabena success in his services to the party and assured him of the highest regards of the leadership.

A Lagos-based hair stylist who was trying to prevent her boyfriend from accessing her phone has done the unthinkable after allegedly pushing her man from the window of a storey building.
A young lady who allegedly pushed her boyfriend from a window of a storey building in Ajagbandi area of Lagos, while trying to prevent him from searching through her phone, has been arrested by Police operatives in the state.
According to a reports, the deceased identified as Wilson Henry, had his neck and complete spinal cord broken as he landed on the fence of the building before resting on the septic tank. He died three days later at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH in Ikeja.
It was gathered that the suspect, Adaugona Esu, a hair stylist was living in a self-contained room on Origa street with her boyfriend, until he traveled outside the country in July 2017, and along the line, she started dating the deceased, who neigbours said usually spent days with her in the apartment before leaving.
However, tragedy struck on July 13, 2018, after neigbours said they heard the usual banters from the lovers’ apartment, which was followed by shout of help from the suspect, and out of concern, some of the neighbours banged on the door and in the process, forced it open, to rescue Ada, as she was popularly called.
There was however allegation that one of the male tenants who entered the apartment, assisted Ada to throw Henry out of the window.
As at the time of filing this report, occupants of the story building had fled their homes for fear of being arrested, while the Police are said to be trailing the male tenant said to have assisted in throwing Henry out of the window.
Meanwhile, speaking to to a correspondent in an interview with the suspect, she denied pushing Henry out of the window, insisting rather that he jumped out himself.
She said: “He came in drunk that night and wanted to collect my phone to search it but I refused. As I was struggling the phone with him, he started beating me and I shouted for help.
“At a point, I could not shout any more. When the door was forced opened by neigbours who came to my rescue, Henry ran into the bedroom and jumped out of the window.
“I did not push him. If I did, there would have been cracks on the window. He had jumped out of the window before Roy (the fleeing tenant) did not push Henry.
“He actually jumped out because he was afraid of Roy. I did not know he was injured until I rushed to the back yard and found him on the ground, unable to move. I carried him on my back to Crown Hospital from where his skull was stitched.
“But he could not move any part of his body as he complained of not having any feeling, even when the doctor pierced him with a needle.
“From there he was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, where he died three days later”.

The Federal Government has assured that it would soon commence the last evacuation of Nigerian football fans stranded in Russia after 2018 World Cup Tournament.
The Embassy of Nigeria in Moscow, Russia, said this in a statement made available to newsmen by its First Secretary, Mr Desmond Nwosu, on Sunday in Abuja.
Nwosu urged the stranded fans to report at the Embassy for registration on July 30th, while the mission awaits flight information.
“In line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to bring all stranded Nigerian fans who visited Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup back home, the government of Nigeria will carry out the last evacuation soon.
“Consequently, the Embassy of Nigeria in Moscow is requesting all Nigerians with fan ID and Nigerian passport to report to the embassy on Monday July 30, for registration,” he said.
Newsmen recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had said that 75 out of 230 stranded Nigerian Football fans absconded in Russia after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The ministry’s Spokesperson, Dr Tope Fatile, said the fans absconded in spite of government’s efforts to repatriate them.
Fatile said that 230 stranded Nigerian football fans were profiled to board Ethiopian Airline to Abuja but at the last minute, only 155 boarded the flight that arrived Abuja on July 22.
He said that though they had the rights not to come back but it would be better for them to return because of the unfavorable weather in that country.
He said that if, however, they repented and decided to come back, the ministry was ever ready to assist them.
Fatile said that the federal government was ever willing to assist Nigerians at anytime, anywhere in the world.

I am a young Nigerian trying to make a living in legitimate ways. Though I studied Computer Science at the North American University, Houdegbe in Benin and graduated in 2013, I work in a construction company in Lagos. After leaving the university, I planned to go for a master’s degree immediately, but my father advised me to gain some work experience. I should complete the master’s programme next year.


I’m also into entertainment; I run the affairs of my father’s band and it’s quite demanding. In addition, I do a little of public relations and I just started a photography outfit.


I have been told I can sing many times, but I don’t see myself as a singer. I work with a fuji band; so, once in a while, when I am in my comfort zone or I want to play, I sing.


Everybody across the world at this time enjoys the best of fuji music. The king of fuji music is still very active and he will be around for a long time. Since he is still relevant and I am also a fan of the king, it is better we do not complicate issues. My advice to everyone is to continue to support fuji music. As for me, in the future, if Allah calls me to be a singer, His will shall be done. But for now, my concentration is a whole different thing.


In all honesty, my dad has asked me what I wanted to do. We had more like a father and son discussion about it, but he is not the kind of father who forces a child into doing things. He will only support you to do what you like to do. When we discussed it, I told him I wanted to make my own mark and do things I enjoy doing. But I can sing and I enjoy singing for the fun of it, at least for now.


I am not a fan of fuji music because of my father. If I wasn’t his son, I would still be a fan of fuji music. When you look at the fuji genre of music, it is indigenous to us. Apart from fuji, when I listen to juju or apala, they are full of meaningful lyrics that can change one’s thoughts. Fuji music changes the way one thinks and the way one sees things. I have friends in the hip-hop industry and they are doing well, but I love traditional music. However, I listen to other music so far it is good and it is Nigerian.


I have siblings who sing but none of them does fuji. Oyindamola Marshal, aka, Honey Bee, Sultan Marshal, Farouk Marshal and M-Marshal do music. But they are not based in Nigeria.


I don’t want to go into details about my family. But like I said earlier, I have siblings who do music. We are one big family. If we are out, you cannot spot the difference. My family is a very loving one and we all have a great relationship. There’s no gap, there’s no difference. If my father gives me N5, he will give my siblings N10 or more. He is a father that understands things easily and knows how to deal with them.


My family is blessed and everybody is happy as my father does his very best for his children. You can’t have a conversation with him in an hour without him mentioning his children. He is a loving father and he cares for all of us.

It is good that I look like my father as I enjoy certain benefits, but one’s personality will determine how one wants to take the recognition one gets. If I am in a place, as soon as all eyes are on me, I start to feel uncomfortable and I look for an escape route.




My father doesn’t expect his children to do less and receive favours because of his name. Rather, he expects one to do very well and let his name be an added advantage. I like to be recognised for the efforts I have put into things, not because of the advantage I have. My father has made us to understand that it is highly honourable when one puts in hard work; advantage should not be the main reason one is celebrated.



My father is a perfectionist. He believes that anything worth doing is worth doing well. Anyone who says someone is strict, if you check well, the person must have bad habits and want people to accept him or her in such manner. My father is a disciplined man and wants things to be done properly. He wants everyone around him to be disciplined and cultured.


Also, my father, at home, is not different from the man on stage. If he is not happy with you, he does not hide it. If he is happy with you, it will tell from his facial expression and vice-versa. He does not have two personalities or pretend about his feelings.


I see myself as an ordinary person; I was treated like every other student in class. Other children also had parents who were celebrated in their different walks of life. Moreover, our upbringing made us take education seriously. According to my father, he has given birth to us, it is left for us to create our own paths or lives.


I was not treated specially during my school days. If the teachers were to punish all the students, I was not spared. It makes no sense to be exempted when I joined in making a noise or committing an offence.




My dad hates people who tell lies. Regardless of what the situation is, he wants you to tell him the truth always. Of course, he may get angry after hearing the truth or what you did, but he will get over it.


My father likes young people who take education as a priority. Whenever he is having a conversation with you, as a young person, it will be based largely on the importance you attach to education. Once you are academically sound, you become his friend.


During leisure, he likes reading books or cooking. If he is cooking, he cooks for the whole day, from one delicacy to another. I am sure most people don’t know my father cooks well and he enjoys cooking.

Little or nothing is known about a certain girl named Maame Afiba Bessa, who says she’s an aspiring cardiologist and a humanitarian until she tweeted a daring summation on her wall concerning relationship. As soon as her tweet came up, torrents of comments began to flood in with varying reactions and most were not so friendly.
“The way I get bored dating one man for long. I really can’t even see myself getting with a man who doesn’t keep me intrigued and makes me laugh till I cry. That’s how soon the way you breathe will even start pissing me off,” she had tweeted.
Most, in a fit of anger, said she would never get married. Others called her grim names not fit for publication. However, Potpourri decided to dig into her background and found out that she has a medical condition that may be interfering with her show of affection, love and trust.
“A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with GAD. For those of you who don’t know, GAD is Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Upon speaking to someone, I found out my childhood memories of constant fear plays a massive part in it,” she had posted October of last year on her wall.

She continued :
“I did not have an easy childhood growing up and for people closest to me I have always opened up about that and also enduring sexual abuse as a child. I’ve always had this fear factor in life , so much so that when things were going right in my life, I was ready for bad things to happen because I always have this mental picture that whatever was going right in my life won’t last. I will worry daily about something I thought will happen, beat myself about it and cry over it.
“I will isolate myself from people who loved me sometimes and get angry at the least thing because behind closed doors, I was battling this thing that I knew existed but was too ashamed to admit or talk about. For many years, it had such a negative impact over my livelihood,” she added.
It is often said that a book should not be judged by its cover. This Ghanaian girl who lives in Barcelona, Spain, is a classic case.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says despite the defections from their party, Nigerians now know better and will reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the general elections in 2019.
Ismael Ahmed who is a member of the APC Board of Trustees (BoT), said this during his appearance on Channels TV today July 25th.
“Ultimately, I think Nigerians are wiser … what we are interested in is the survival of this platform; Nigerians have rejected PDP over and over again and they will reject it in 2019, God’s willing,” he said.
