Politics / Re: Ex-Governors & Obi Fight Over Anambra Oil by maigaskiya1: 8:24am On Sep 02, 2012
apala911: Governor Peter Obi and three former governors of Anambra State are locked in a battle of wits over who should take the credit for its new status as an oil producing state.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday officially inaugurated the exploitation of crude oil by the Orient Petroleum Resources Ltd in the state.

The event formally ushered Anambra into the league of oil producing states in the country.

During the event, each of the three former governors made speeches that were clearly intended to draw attention to their individual contributions to the oil exploration project.

One of the former governors, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, told the gathering that he set up the committee that established Orient Petroleum, appointed its first board and secured a licence for it to exploit oil in 2002.

While Mbadinuju insisted that he deserved to be given the credit for conceiving the vision, his successor, Dr. Chris Ngige, who was at the ceremony, said, “My administration invited investors from far and wide when we made public the shares of Orient Petroleum and it was chaired by Chief Emeka Anyaoku at Tourist Garden Hotel Awka.

“On that day we made a draft of N100m and promised to make available substantial amount of money when all the paper works had been concluded.

“But I must add that the revenue accruing from oil should be used judiciously and to provide social security for the people of Anambra State and host communities.

“I call it wonderful. It is a great day for Anambra State and the beginning of a long journey towards transformation of our state. Oil can be a blessing and can also be a curse. But let it be only blessing to our dear state.

“Anambra should utilise such a great achievement effectively, such that in the next six to eight years it will not need a kobo to run the recurrent expenditure of the state.”

Another former governor of the state, Mrs. Virgy Etiaba, thanked God for the realisation of the project and said she did not relent in her efforts to sustain it during her three-month tenure.

In his speech, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, said Orient Petroleum would jump start aggressive and strategic socio-economic development of the state.

“I pray that the production of oil would also create a friendly environment in our state and I urge those involved in this to see it as a challenge in liberating the economic status of the state from what it is now to higher level. That is why I say it is wonderful,” he said.

Health / Re: Five Die After Eating Amala In Ondo by maigaskiya1: 3:01pm On Aug 29, 2012
free2ryhme: Bolorunduro village in Ondo State was thrown into mourning last Wednesday when a family of five died after eating amala (yam flour). The names of the deceased were given as Michael Onoja,56; his wife, Comfort 42, Monday, 24; Patience, 21; and the eight-year-old grandchild, Joy Odoh.

A police source told our correspondent that when Onoja returned from his farm on the fateful day, he instructed his daughter, Patience, to prepare amala for the family to eat.

The source said, “Some hours after the meal, Joy, who was spending the holidays with the family started complaining of stomach pain and shortly after, slumped. She died later at a nearby government hospital.”

It was learnt that the little girl was buried the following day.

The source said, “Few hours after Joy was buried, other members of the family started having stomach pains and were rushed to the hospital. It was at the hospital that Onoja told his neighbours that the family ate amala, and that they had not eaten any other food after that. He and the family members died one after the other shortly after that.”

The source said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the state Specialist Hospital, Akure while autopsy had yet to be conducted.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr, Aremu Adeniran, said the police had commenced investigation into the incident.

He said, “The matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in order to ensure proper investigation.”

akannium: the points that are going to be highlighted here are vital points in which anyone that applies them would secure his/her dream job. As graduates many of us think we have graduated with a good grade i.e a 2nd class upper. So we think we would automatically get the job. We must know that a first-class in school does not translate to a first class knowledge about securing a job. Havev't you seen people that were 'smart alecs' in school but don't eventually get their dream jobs? So i guess you asking what the solution is to this nagging problem? Well the solution lies in the tests we do before getting the job. What am i sayin? I mean it starts from the day you heard about the vacancy. The way you write your CV matters. A good CV need not be written based on your discretion but on the standard format. Secondly, you write an aptitude test. Many people think the questions that would be asked can't exceed '1+1 and singular and plural'. They have forgotten thousands of people are coming for the same exam, so the examiner has to step up his game by asking you questions that have to do with how academically sound you are. The third point is the skill test. This is where you are asked questions relating to your field of study. Also you could be asked questions about the nature of the job you are seeking. Google search engine could help with some of this. Lastly, the oral test i.e interview. As simple as it sounds, it could eliminate the interviewee, so i suggest you read books on passing interviews. I wish you all the best.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Heading For Disintegration – Ex-defence Chief by maigaskiya1: 4:53pm On Aug 28, 2012
Paul John: Former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd), has said Nigeria is on the road to disintegration and can only be rescued when the citizens agree to discuss issues affecting it.

He added that such discussions must border on what the ethnic nationalities in the country genuinely desire.

Akinrinade, who is also the convener of Yoruba Assembly, spoke to journalists in Lagos on Monday against the backdrop of the conference of South-West leaders holding on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said, “Disintegration for Nigeria is not out of possibility. We are not far from the road to disintegration. It will be the fault of all us if it happens. Let us sit together and speak honest truths to one another. Let us use superior arguments among ourselves in the spirit of give and take to decide what we want.”

The former CDS also said Yorubas must re-appraise themselves and decide their destiny within the Nigerian nation.

He stated that it was time leaders in the South-West sat together and discussed issues affecting the region.

Akinrinade said, ” It is our belief that the conference will afford the Yoruba the opportunity to sit together and revalidate their position on the Nigerian nation and present it so that we will reflect on it soberly.”

He stressed that the people in the region had never hidden their clamour for autonomy to be given to ethnic nationalities in the country for them to develop at their pace.

According to him, it is wrong for anyone to say such call is not negotiable and unpatriotic.

Akinrinade noted that there was no other way to resolve the challenges confronting the country than through honest discussions among the ethnic.

Politics / Re: IBB Threatens To Expose Buhari by maigaskiya1: 10:18am On Aug 28, 2012
HammedSodiqq: A few hours after President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari took a swipe at former  leaders, ex-Military President Ibrahim Babangida fired back.
He asked Dr. Jonathan to learn to accept criticisms and threatened to expose the “holier-than thou-attitude” of Gen. Buhari.
Gen. Babangida, who spoke through Prince Kassim Afegbua, his media adviser, reminded Gen. Buhari that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
He also advised Dr. Jonathan to look elsewhere, not him, if he is blaming past leaders that are criticising him.
Kassim said: “On President Jonathan, there is nothing wrong in criticism if it is constructive and in the interest of the country. Gen. Babangida is one unique former President who does not criticise a sitting President as a matter of courtesy.
“If President Jonathan is blaming past leaders, he should look elsewhere, certainly not IBB.
“On Gen. Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former President. But for the purpose of record, we are conversant with Gen. Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou attitude.
“He is a one-time Minister of Petroleum and we have good records of his tenure as minister.
“Secondly, he also presided over the Petroleum Trust Fund ( PTF) which records we also have.
“We challenge him to come out with clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his. “records of performance during those periods.”
“Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. Gen. Buhari should be properly guided.”

But ever since he took his girlfriend to workship with him at his church, their relationship has been on shaky ground. it happened that on that particular sunday, been her first time in church, she was seperated from the guy and taken to another part of the church meant for first timers to sit (like they do in some churches). And it was while she sat there that a wealthy brother in the church sighted her and later approached her after the service. they exchanged numbers and began seeing and calling each other without the knowledge of my friend. My friend didn't know nor suspected anything at first but noticed that her feelings and interest in their relationship was becoming cold by the day. he later got to know via someone in the church and that the new guy (church brother) wants to marry her. and cos of the new guy, she hardly picks my firend's calls nor visit him like she used to. Now, my guy is heartbroken...he's afraid he's going to lose his girlfriend to the church brother, who is richer than him and has been spoiling his girlfriend silly with money and gifts...

Gracious10: I have been dating my guy for almost a year now. He is 15 years older than me. I am in my late twenties.
This guy is super nice but i have issues bothering me about him.
1: He never introduces me as "his girlfriend or woman" ( he calls me baby when we are alone and my name when people are around)

2: He never returns my call promptly, he returns calls in 48-72 hrs and when i demand explanation, he gives excuses of being too busy and would call back when he has time for it! He also accuses me of insulting him and i still apologise. I have never used a curse word on him cos i understand what respect is.

3:we cant have a conversation without him rubbing his age on my face. I am literally scared of showing displeasure in his attitude towards me cos i dont wish to labelled rude and insultive.

4:He loves to ignore me for days no matter how worried i am of his welbeing.

5: He is stingy. If i dont ask for anything, he won't bother doing it for me even if my hair looks nasty.
I dont ask him for money because by the grace of God, i can comfortably take care of myself. I have never being a financial burden cos i know everyone has bills. And i believe a man should provide for his woman the way he can no matter how little. A good woman will appreciate that.
I love this man to bits, i have been completly transperent to him and to my commitment to God. The more i try to reach him, the more he appears to be invisible.

Recently, he treated me his normal way in public, practically avoided me and sneaked out of the event without informing me of his exit. He later asked me to join me in a resturant, i refused to go. He appologised but i think this guy has been planing to leave me. So i decided to stay away for a while and since then, he hasn't called.
I have peace within me, I believe i shouldnt force anyone to be with me. Relationship is a two thing. I believe he has his own side to the story. Apart from what i have mentioned, this guy is nice.....But with what i have presented, should i still hope he will come back? I am not dating anyone and dont wish to date till i understand what went wrong here and how i can fix it moving on.
Thanks for your help. Your comments would be highly appreciated.
