tkb417:Hauwa Audu is from Auchi in Edo state. She used to be my stock broker between 2001 to 2003. |
V6ix:that is a right. every child must be educated and that is basic. after education what else can you do for your child. |
BSL:Broad street Lagos, i think you have to pay for the the advertisement you putting on our threads. Nairaland please take note. |
mayorde:Since your are already a chartered accountant, i would have advised you to study another course e.g. Economics, Finance, Business Administration. That will give you the needed diversification and broad based knowledge. This is just a suggestion. |
mark90:What do you have as collateral, your collateral should be twice the value of the required loan. When will you be able to pay back the loan. Interest rate is just 25% per annum |
You are an adult, and i believe you know you want for yourself. It will be a bit difficult to combine a banking work with studies. But if you have sponsors or you have enough reserves to take you through your studies, then i can advice to resign and face your studies and come out in flying colours. Sorry for asking this question, what course were admitted to study. |

Ulamaster:I think the best investment for a child is shares or real estate. Real estate if the money is substantial enough to buy an apartment for the child, but if the money can only buy a plot of land, i will say investing in shares is better. I am saying this from experience, my father bought plots of land for us in adigbe area of abeokuta in 1985 from ogun state govt. But when we needed the land, Gbenga Daniel had relocated the land to politicians because the area is now a high brow area. My uncle who worked as an accountant with one of the quoted companies in the food and beverages sector and he used a lower amount of money to buy shares for my cousins in 1986. He was also re-investing the dividends, when he died in 2008. The least portfolio size of my cousins was more than 10 million Naira and the highest which belongs to the eldest son was 18 million. In my uncle will the shares should only be transferred to the children when they are 40 years, the eldest got his own in july 2010. I think investment in shares is the best for a child, that is what l have did for my baby boy. |
Has anybody gotten the one for two bonus declared by Oando in the last financial year. |
^^ I have been running a mutual fund with them but I want to start buying stocks using them as my broker.
That is very good, do you use the one at Ilupeju. I do'nt know why i have reservations for mutual funds, I prefer doing my own thing. It is easily to learn that way by doing your own thing, but mutual fund or unit trust fund is not a bad idea for a beginner. |
Thanks for the info, but I guess their initial startup is pretty too high for me. Maybe I'd stick to ARM Securities since they have a reasonable charge. ARM Securities is okay, are you a mutual fund stuff with them or you personally buy stocks through them every month. I use my brokers because when the market was very good, l got facilities from them to trade in stocks. |
I use FBN Securities at Ikoyi, a subsidiary of first bank, UBA stock brokers a subsidiary of United bank of Africa, they non 10th floor UBA house marina and Union Capital market on Victoria island a sudsidiary of Union bank. FBN securities used to charge 500k to open an account, it used to be 20k but they increased it during the bull era of 2006 to 2008. I guess they must have a downward review of the amount, same with Union capital. UBA stock brokers is 250k. |
've been following the stock market for more than 15 years, but I've been an investor for less than that. One thing I have learnt is that one needs to have some skin in the game to be a good student of the market. That is very good. To succeed in stock trading you need to have good brokers. I use three brokers that are subsidiaries of some of the big banks in Nigeria. You get research materials from the stock brokers, but it is still advisable for you to do your home work. This is not the time to speculate, although one can be lucky to speculate now and win. |
( Nahco, NB, FBN, Oando, GTB and UACN Property). Gurus I have a long term view on investing and as d clock clicks I will become more and more experienced I have all these stocks in my portfolio. It is always better if you have a long term perspective. I started investing in the capital market in 1994, even though l heard about stocks 5 years before this time. If you monitor your stock and you have a minimum of 5 year plan, you will do well in stocks. Do you know that l bought UACN for N2 in 2001, GSK for N1.5, Nestle for N18 and l have not sold the stocks instead l have being buy more. You only once in a while, when the fundamentals does not support the price. |
am very happy to hear that as a young graduate, you are already thinking about investing. As someone who graduated from the university about 15 years ago, I wish I had your kind of foresight 22 years ago. Congratulations!!! So how long have you been investing in the capital market? What are your current stock picks? |
If you have the money, i think it a good advice for one to buy shares now. One should have a long term view and invest in companies with very good fundamentals. I am even thinking of the business to do in order to augment my income, so as to have have more money to invest in the capital market. |
I am waiting for advice from nairalanders. |
I do'nt know if this topic should be in the career or business section. |
is there a spiritual angle to this,l learnt 8 of thr first class graduant are members of mountain of fire while at unilag. The General overseer DR.D.K. Olukoya equally made a first class in micro biology from Unilag in 1981 |
Sanusi never worked with Standard Trust Bank, he joined first Bank as a General Manager from UBA> |
The Ghanaian government is wooing Nigerian manufacturers and investors to come and invest and build plants in their country. They are giving manufacturers up to 10 years tax holiday. Can we really trust them,we know what they are doing to Nigerian owned banks and businesses in Ghana. Why the sudden change in attitude. l think our manufacturers and investors should beware of the Ghanaian government and there policy. http://allafrica.com/stories/200906221130.html |
