Verbes: Not investing in stock for now.
If you are not investing now, please don't invest when the market goes crazy because it may be detrimental to you. People who have hundreds of millions and billions in shares did not invest when the market is popular, they invested when the market was a no go area.

You only need to know how value a stock, and commit your money into the stock whenever it is selling at a discount to the average of the valuation methods prices.

sellydion: There is nothing to beware about. Study history of price. Price can never stay in one place for ever. At the current price I am sure I have nothing to fear. At times it may take time, I won't make a loss.I do not borrow to invest. Borrowing causes fear and make you to sell prematurely. The economy is expanding the first bull move will not end there even if it takes time.
Sorry for asking this question, how long have you been in this market? what is the size of your portfolio? Penny stock should not take more than 20% of a good portfolio, financial institutions will not touch them with a long pole.
Make sure you do appropriate valuation on your penny stocks, and give a margin of safety, also remember to buy your penny stock at a great discount.

Happy investing

sellydion: You can actually buy WEMA depending on whether you are speculating or investing. WEMA has been around for some time and she refused to go under despite great challenges.Come to think of it the stock rose to N1.8k before the resent pull backs that affect almost other stocks. If you are speculating ( not with borrowed money)because it may involve waiting for little time, you are most likely going to turn a good gain. If for investment WEMA may not give you good dividend, bonus and great appreciation. Speculation is more risky but the way price is with most of these penny stocks shows there are great prospects.
I will advice you to beware of penny stocks.

Ame Lon Ro: Both have their own place in terms of benefits. Both are very good. Shares can easily be converted to cash. Real estate takes time to easily convert to cash.
Most shrewd investors have shares, real estate and cash in their portfolio. I have both shares and real estate, but 60% of my net-worth are currently in shares

olushowunm: @Seun... In order to satisfy all interests, i think it will be better to divide investments forum into four, namely;
SME/Start-ups
Equity,Derivatives and spots(Forex)
Fixed-income Assets
Real Estate Investment

With this we will be able to balance all interests and create a platform where we can understand the scope of the forum!
May be we need a section that will be devoted to stock market investment. Some of us are stock market addicts.

Born 2be Rich: Bros, i think everybody is waiting for the market to start bringing in the result...It is the only way for now to know which stock is hot or nothuh

Nobody like surprises so lets wait... cheesy
Most you wait for results to come out before you position your self in fundamentally good stocks that are selling at a discount.

When results are out, the stock may become hot. It is difficult making on the exchange by chasing hot stocks.

I had similar problem when I transferred my stockbroking account from Union capital to BGL, mine took 6 weeks instead about 1 week for the inter broker transfer.

But I followed up at CSCS, Union Capital and BGL. Instead of relying on just online solution, i made personal visits to CSCS and the brokers.

I later found out that it was the officer at CSCS that caused the delay.

Prince 08: House, I need assistance/clarification here. I transferred my shares from CSL stockbroking firm to to Fidelity Stockbroking Limited since July 2011 (Close to 1 year now) with all the documents duly signed. The issue here is that the shares is no longer reflecting in CSL LTD (my former stockbroker) and has not been deposited in Fidelity Stockbrocking Limited (new stock broker).

My questions are as follows: I wonder where the shares has been residing all this while? Which govt agency can I write to in order to fight this anomaly? Your candid responses will highly be appreciated.
I hope the problem is solved.

ayo84: exactly people who take risks, make larger profits, I find it hard why people invest so much money in buying shares, when you can use that money and power a new idea or new trend, its risky also though, but I think one way to grow this country and develop young people is by investing in some of their ideas. Not all ideas see the light of day though, some are overambitious and eventally fail, I think its best to invest in those who have developed a business model which is already working and you can identify cah flow and profit maximisation and you can clearly see where your money investment will go to and ncrease their sales, output, production and profits. I also have an internet startup, and people see demand for our products ,so when we tell people ,that we need their money to drive and expand sales, they can clearly see the opportunity, cos our business model, is pretty straightforward, they see monetisation and they know what an investment can do to increase sales.
The promoter of the start up has parents, brothers, sisters, family, neighbours, friends etc, these should be the first set of people to believe in your idea. Your idea must have been profitable before you can invite outsiders. The invitation of outsiders in most cases is for expansion of the company, it always easy to market or get finance for a well managed company.
If people who are close to you find it difficult to invest in your idea or dream, I dont think it will be proper for any reasonable capitalist to commit fund into such venture.
Investment › Re: Investing In Startup Vs Buying Shares? by manie(m): 4:07pm On Mar 18, 2013
It still makes a whole of sense to invest in shares of a quoted company with good management and track record than to invest in a start up. The probability of success in most start ups is negligible.

I will invest in a start up if I can own minimum of 51% of the company, and am involved in the financial and marketing of the company. The founder and promoter should limit himself to the technical aspect of the enterprise.

manie: Get the transaction details on your account from CSCS, or from the registrars of the stocks in your account. This will give an idea of where your stocks are, the guys at Fidelity might not be telling you the full story.
You can get the date you were signed out from CSL stockbrokers from CSCS. The information can be accessed online.

What value did you see in the PP of Union diagnostic, was the company tested and tried before you committed your funds, was the company not overpriced when the PP was sold to gullible investors, were you not carried away by the potential 100% return that would be made in less than 1 year by the promoters of the PP. As a matter of investment principle, i dont do penny stocks, and if i must it should be less than 10% of my total investeable fund.

elampiro: Wish everyone of you good luck. I am never going to be carried away by the market again. Even if it's gaining 500% in a month. The crash doesn't announce itself. It starts with three consecutive days loss (red) then you see a gain on your share a day (in between) then next days of losses, just like that, and you find yourself in the mud. Till you will be forced to sell at a huge loss or leave it to crash completely while hoping they rise again before you grow grey hair.

If you MUST invest there, don't be carried away by speculations, look at financial performance of the company. But I warn again: Use your money for estate (land, etc).
The stock market is not for you. You invest with knowledge, information and figures.
