PoliticsRe: Iran Attacks Israel With Over 300 Drones, Missiles: What You Need To Know by ManirBK(op):
US is the reasons Israel become so arrogant for decades ...
High time for all Arab nations to realize the important of unity facing
common enemy .
PoliticsIran Attacks Israel With Over 300 Drones, Missiles: What You Need To Know by ManirBK(op): 3:52pm On Apr 14, 2024
Iran unleashed a barrage of missiles and
drones on Saturday and during the early hours
of Sunday, targeting Israel in retaliation for last
week’s suspected Israeli strike on its consulate
in Damascus that killed 13 people.

Here is what happened, and what analysts say
could happen next.

What happened in Israel and when?

Iran launched a massive aerial attack on
Israel, two weeks after a suspected Israeli
strike on its consulate in Syria. This marks
the first-ever direct attack by Iran on Israeli
territory from Iranian soil. Iran called the
attack Operation True Promise.
The attack began on Saturday night around
20:00 GMT. It lasted approximately five
hours, according to US officials.
During the attack, explosions were heard in
cities across Israel, including Tel Aviv. The
explosions were also heard in Jerusalem, and
air raid sirens sounded in more than 720
locations as Israeli forces sought to shoot
down the projectiles.
Israel’s chief military spokesman, Daniel
Hagari, said Iran’s attack involved more
than 120 ballistic missiles, 170 drones, and
more than 30 cruise missiles, according to a
report by The Associated Press news agency.
The Israeli military also said that the vast
majority of the projectiles were intercepted
outside the country’s borders, with help from
the United States, the United Kingdom and
France. Jordan also shot down some of the
missiles aimed at Israel as they were flying
through Jordanian airspace.
Israel’s military added that a “small number
of hits were identified”. In a base located in
southern Israel, “minor damage occurred to
the infrastructure”.
A seven-year-old girl was also severely
injured by missile fragments, while other
patients sustained minor injuries and some
were treated for anxiety.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on
Saturday that the US also intercepted
“dozens” of missiles and drones launched at
Israel from Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
Where exactly did the attacks take place?
During the attack, Israel’s military ordered
residents in the northern Israeli-occupied
Golan Heights – near the Syrian and
Lebanese borders – and in the southern
cities of Nevatim, Dimona and Eilat to
remain near bomb shelters.
Nevatim is the site of an Israeli airbase,
while Dimona has a nuclear reactor on the
outskirts. Eilat is Israel’s southern Red Sea
port, which has suffered from a sharp
decline in operations because of repeated
attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on ships passing
through the waterway.

Why did Iran attack Israel?
Iran’s attack is a retaliation for a suspected
Israeli strike that killed an Iranian military
commander, Major-General Mohammad
Reza Zahed, in Damascus on April 1. He was
killed along with six other Iranian nationals,
including another general. At least six Syrian
citizens were also killed.
“It seems that Iranian leaders are
determined to take action, but also [be] seen
to take action,” David Des Roches, an
associate professor at the National Defense
University in Washington, DC, told Al
Jazeera.
“What that indicates to me is that there are
considerations of pride and prestige that are
divorced from strategy and tactical utility
that may indicate a more dangerous era than
we thought,” he added.
Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group backed
by Iran, and the Israeli military have been
trading attacks across the Lebanon-Israel
border since October 8, the day after the
Hamas-led attack in southern Israel and
Israel’s brutal retaliation on the besieged
Gaza Strip. Since then, more than 330 people
in Lebanon have been killed in Israeli
attacks, including at least 66 civilians.
Hezbollah attacks have killed at least 18
people on the Israeli side, 12 soldiers and six
civilians.
On Saturday, Iranian state media announced
that the the country’s armed forced had
seized an Israel-linked container ship near
the Strait of Hormuz.

What is the Israeli government saying?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
said his country “will win”, in a tweet after
the attacks. Earlier, he spoke to the nation,
stating that the military was prepared for
any scenario.
“Citizens of Israel, in recent years, and
especially in recent weeks, Israel has been
preparing for a direct attack by Iran,”
Netanyahu said.
“Our defensive systems are deployed; we are
ready for any scenario, both defensively and
offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The
[Israeli army] is strong. The public is strong.”
He also thanked his allies, including the US
and UK, for “standing alongside” Israel.
“We have determined a clear principle:
Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We
will defend ourselves against any threat and
will do so level-headedly and with
determination,” he added.
After the attack was over, Israeli Defense
Minister Yoav Gallant said that the attack
had been “blocked”.
“The Iranian attack was blocked in the most
impressive way, together with our partners,
the Americans and others… The entire world
saw today who is Iran – a country of terror,”
Gallant added.

What is the Iranian government saying?
Iran warned Israel of any response. The
Iranian armed forces chief of staff, Major-
General Mohammad Bagheri, told state TV
that if Israel retaliates, Iran’s response would
be “much larger” than the overnight
bombardment, according to a Reuters report.
Iran also warned Washington that backing
Israeli retaliation would lead to the targeting
of US bases.
Earlier, Iran’s mission to the UN cited the UN
Charter provision for self-defence, under
Article 51, and said that the country
considered “the matter … concluded”, its
permanent mission at the United Nations
said on X.
“The matter can be deemed concluded.
However, should the Israeli regime make
another mistake, Iran’s response will be
considerably more severe. It is a conflict
between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime,
from which the US MUST STAY AWAY!”
President Ebrahim Raisi issued a statement
hailing the “brave men” of Iran’s Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who
“taught a lesson to the Zionist regime”.

What is the latest on the ground?
There has been a downgrading of the Home
Front Command’s alert level for Israelis
around the country, telling them they no
longer have to be around shelters. The Home
Front Command said the immediate danger
had passed.
In Tehran, hundreds of supporters of the
government gathered in the middle of the
night to celebrate the strikes according to
state media. They gathered at Palestine
Square and outside the UK embassy.
Mehrabad airport in Tehran, along with
airports in various other Iranian cities, have
cancelled domestic flights until Monday
morning, the semiofficial Mehr News Agency
reported. The Israel Airports Authority said
the country reopened its airspace as of
7:30am (04:30 GMT).
On Sunday, Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon
reopened their airspace after having closed it
late on Saturday.
Airlines based in the United Arab Emirates,
including Emirates, Etihad Airways and
flydubai, cancelled some flights and rerouted
others following Iran’s attacks. Swiss
International Air Lines also suspended
flights to and from Tel Aviv.
Russia’s Aeroflot announced that it had
diverted its Saturday evening flight from
Moscow to Tehran. The flight instead landed
in Makhachkala in Russia’s Dagestan region.

Following the sentencing of celebrity transgender, Idris Okuneye,
a.k.a Bobrisky, to six-month imprisonment by a Federal High Court
in Lagos over Naira mutilation, the Nigerian Correctional Service
(NCoS) has said that the convict will be incarcerated in the male
section of its custodial facility.
LEADERSHIP reports that Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos
Division of the Federal High Court found Bobrisky guilty of Naira
abuse, leading to his sentencing on Friday.
Bobrisky, who has openly discussed his gender transition on social
media, identified himself as a male when questioned in court,
influencing the decision to place him in a male-designated facility.
“Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide
by what was submitted in court,” a spokesperson for the
correctional service in Lagos said.
Despite concerns regarding his safety due to his gender preference,
Correctional officers have assured that Bobrisky will be adequately
protected from potential harm.
“He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates
because our men can give him protection,” the spokesperson
stated, addressing worries about his vulnerability.
Bobrisky’s social media activity, including a recent video on
Instagram where he posed suggestively, continues to garner
attention. He has shared his gender transition journey with his five
million followers on Instagram, stating, “My journey transitioning
into a woman has been going smooth, no health issues, everything

HealthRe: Nigeria First To Introduce New Vaccine Against Meningitis – WHO by ManirBK(op):
Good news!

HealthNigeria First To Introduce New Vaccine Against Meningitis – WHO by ManirBK(op): 5:45pm On Apr 13, 2024
Nigeria has become the first country in the world to roll out a
new vaccine – Men5CV – recommended by the World Health
Organisation (WHO), to protect people against meningitis.
The world health body, in a statement on Friday, said that the
vaccine would protect people against five strains of
meningococcus bacteria, and described Nigeria’s feat as
historic.
It said that health workers would begin an immunisation
campaign aimed at reaching one million people.
The statement said that the vaccine and emergency
vaccination activities are funded by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance,
which funds the global meningitis vaccine stockpile and
supports lower-income countries with routine vaccination
against meningitis.
According to the WHO, Nigeria is one of the 26 meningitis
hyper-endemic countries of Africa, situated in the area known
as the African Meningitis Belt.
It noted that in 2023, there was a 50 per cent jump in annual
meningitis cases reported across Africa.
“In Nigeria, an outbreak of Neisseria meningitidis
(meningococcus) serogroup C outbreak, led to 1,742
suspected meningitis cases, including 101 confirmed cases
and 153 deaths in seven of 36 Nigerian states, between
October 2023 and March 2024.
The states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina,
Yobe, Zamfara.
“To quell the deadly outbreak, a vaccination campaign was
undertaken on 25–28 March 2024 to initially reach more than
one million people aged 1-29 years,” it said.
The statement noted that meningitis was a serious infection
that leads to the inflammation of the membranes (meninges),
that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
“There are multiple causes of meningitis, including viral,
bacterial, fungal and parasitic pathogens.
“Symptoms often include headache, fever and stiff neck.
Bacterial meningitis is the most serious, and can also result in
septicaemia (blood poisoning). It can seriously disable or kill
within 24 hours,” the statement added.
It quoted Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, as
saying that meningitis was an old and deadly foe, adding that
the new vaccine holds the potential to change the trajectory of
the disease, preventing future outbreaks and saving many
lives.
“Nigeria’s rollout brings us one step closer to our goal of
eliminating meningitis by 2030,” Ghebreyesus said.
He said that the revolutionary new vaccine offers a powerful
shield against the five major strains of the meningococcal
bacteria – A, C, W, Y and X – in a single shot.
All five strains cause meningitis and blood poisoning.
According to him, this provides broader protection than the
current vaccine used in much of Africa, which is only effective
against the A strain.
He said that the new vaccine has the potential to significantly
reduce meningitis cases and advance progress in defeating
meningitis.
“This is especially important for countries like Nigeria where
multiple serogroups are prevalent.
“The new vaccine uses the same technology as the meningitis
A conjugate vaccine (MenAfriVac®), which wiped out
meningococcal A epidemics in Nigeria,” the WHO boss said.
The statement quoted Prof. Muhammad Pate, Nigeria’s
Minister of Health and Social Welfare, as saying that Northern
Nigeria, particularly the states of Jigawa, Bauchi and Yobe,
were badly hit by the deadly outbreak of meningitis.
“This vaccine provides health workers with a new tool to both
stop this outbreak and also put the country on a path to
elimination,” Pate said.
According to him, Nigeria has done a lot of work preparing
health workers and the health system for the rollout of the new
vaccine. (NAN)

The police in Nasarawa State have killed a suspected kidnapper who had been causing havoc and distress to travellers on the Nasarawa-Keffi highway. DSP Ramhan Nansel, the police spokesperson in the state, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the command received a distress call on Wednesday about hoodlums blocking the Nasarawa-Keffi highway with the intent to kidnap road users. He further said, “In response, the police, in collaboration with the military, swiftly deployed to the scene. Upon encountering the joint operatives, the criminals opened fire, leading to a gun battle. During the exchange of gunfire, one of the hoodlums was fatally wounded and apprehended. “The wounded kidnapper was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Nasarawa Local Government Area but later succumbed to injuries and died.
“The police recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of live ammunition from the deceased kidnapper.” The PPRO further explained that the kidnappers initially attempted to abduct occupants of two SUVs before being intercepted by the security forces.

manufacturers to ensure equitable access to life-saving
vaccines for children and adults.
Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of GAVI led by its
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sania Nishtar, at the State
House, on Thursday, President Tinubu said partnership on
local vaccine production has become necessary owing to
the challenges faced by developing countries, especially
during the COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious
disease outbreaks.
‘’We have capable and talented people who can make the
necessary contributions to the production of vaccines in
Nigeria and the rest of Africa,’’ the President told the
visiting CEO, who assumed office on March 18, 2024, and
has embarked on visits to some African countries.
The president assured the GAVI CEO of Nigeria’s
commitment to fulfilling its outstanding counterpart
contributions for routine vaccines for the year 2023.

He directed the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social
Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, to work with the
Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of
Finance to ensure the release of necessary funds for
vaccine procurement.
In her remarks, the GAVI CEO congratulated the Nigerian
government on its innovative health-sector initiatives,
including increasing budgetary allocations to health to 4.6
per cent and commitment to providing HPV vaccines for
adolescent girls, among others.
She expressed readiness to collaborate with the Federal
Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to leverage policy

PoliticsNigeria Customs Service Generates ₦1.3trn In First Quarter 2024 by ManirBK(op): 12:07pm On Apr 04, 2024
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated more than N1.3 trillion revenue in the first quarter of 2024.

The Comptroller General (C-G) of NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, said this while briefing newsmen on its activities in the first quarter of 2024, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The total revenue collected during this period amounted to N1,347,675,608,972.75.

“The collection for the first quarter represents a substantial increase of 122.35 per cent compared to the same period last year, where N606,119,935,146.67 was collected
,” he said.

Adeniyi explained that the month-by-month analysis illustrated the service’s impressive growth trajectory in Jan. 2024, where it recorded revenue of N390,824 billion, an increase of 95.6 per cent compared to that of Jan. 2023 of N199.81 billion.

He added that in February, the service recorded 138.68 per cent growth and in March, 132.76 per cent compared to 2023.

The C-G said that the service, within the quarter under review, recorded 572 seizures of various items valued at N10.59 billion in Duty Paid Value (DPV) and 22 suspects were arrested.

According to him, rice constituted 39 per cent of the seizures, followed by petroleum products at 26 per cent, with motor vehicles and textiles accounting for nine and six per cent respectively.

He said that the service was determined to address smuggling and harassment of its personnel during operations in border communities through strengthened anti-smuggling strategies with innovations such as Geographic Information System.

“One notable initiative is the integration of geospatial technology alongside the utilisation of satellite imagery and Artificial Intelligence tools and techniques.

“These efforts were initiated upon my assumption of office to combat the longstanding issue of smuggling and enhance the NCS’s enforcement capabilities for effective monitoring of our extensive 4,000 km borders.

“Additionally, this initiative will establish a Command and Control center to monitor activities along our borders comprehensively,” he said.

Adeniyi noted that even though customs recorded a decrease in the volume of import transactions in the first quarter, it was working toward streamlining its trade processes to address bottlenecks and optimise its efficiency across ports for seamless trade transactions.

He said that the service also recorded several systemic challenges related to non-compliance with regulations, infrastructure limitations, and significant fluctuations in exchange rates applied in the clearance of consignments.

The NCS boss explained that in the first quarter 2024, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directed 28 rates, and such fluctuations resulted in an average applied exchange rate of NGN 1,314.03 per one dollar in the clearance of customs goods during the quarter.

He explained that the fluctuations affected and disrupted the activities of its stakeholders and the potential of its revenue.

Consequently, Adeniyi said that the NCS, with the support of the Minister of Finance, has initiated periodic consultations with the CBN to mitigate the potential impact of exchange rate fluctuations on import activities.(NAN)
