God bless Tinubu Hold your respective state governors accountable for the utilisation of increased monthly allocation that accrued from the federal government. 30b outside thier normal monthly allocation, pls do not blame my Jagaban o if your governor fail you o ![]() |
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio , said an “unverified report” indicated that state governors received N30 billion each from the Federation Account to ameliorate inflation and the high cost of food in their respective states. Last September, the federal government said N2 billion was released to governors out of the N5 billion loan it offered to each state as a palliative to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy. During the plenary on Tuesday, Mr Akpabio said information available to him indicates that apart from the first tranche of funds given to the governors, an additional N30 billion was also to them through the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). “I must say that unverified report has it that each of the state governments in the last few months has received additional N30 billion from Federal Inland Revenue Service outside their normal allocations from the Federation Account to assist them in ameliorating the food situation,” he said. FIRS The senate president advised the governors to utilise the funds judiciously to reduce the high cost of food items and other challenges facing the country. “We believed that every state government should utilise the funds received towards ensuring that food is available in the country. “So, the state governments have a lot to do. They are closer to the people and I do not want to mention local government because most of the local governments are controlled by the state governors. “My belief is that if the state government does what is needed, then the local government will be involved in sharing to make sure that these things get to the people. But we must not overlook the fact that Nigerians are not going to be interested in stories. “Nigerians want to see action. Nigerians want to eat and we will provide food for them, there is no excuse. Despite what we met on ground” Mr Akpabio added. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/670394-governors-receive-n30bn-each-to-reduce-hardships-akpabio.html mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun nlfpmod RepoMan007 |

The European Union (EU) is set to invest €37 million in the Nigerian power sector. Bolaji Tunji, special adviser on strategic communication and media relations to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. Mr Tunji said this is apart from about 200 million grants invested in the sector since 2008. He said this disclosure was made by the EU ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi , during a visit to Mr Adelabu on Thursday. FIRS According to the statement, Ms Isopi was accompanied by the new head of cooperation of the EU, DE Luca Massimo and the Programme Manager on Energy, Godfrey Ogbemudia. During the visit, Mr Tunji said Ms Isopi spoke on the EU’s various intervention programmes in the power sector noting that the current support would cover small hydropower, solar for health care facilities, rural electrification with isolated and interconnected mini-grids projects, and circular economy in power sector projects. She said the projects will commence this year. Ms Isopi, according to the statement, also used the opportunity to invite the minister to an upcoming launch of two projects funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) which will both be launched on 26 March. In his response, Mr Adelabu who received the ambassador in the company of his Chief Technical Advisor, Adedayo Olowoniyi, expressed appreciation to the EU for the support they have been giving to them while noting that more support is needed to address the enormous challenges in the sector. He identified the liquidity issue as the main problem that the government is trying its best to resolve and said that the market will only be sustainable and run efficiently when there is a cost-reflective tariff in place. Mr Tunji added that the minister was very excited about EU programmes for the sector and confirmed the alignment of these programmes with the ministry’s strategy for the sector while promising to work with the EU on their programmes especially on small hydro and state electrification within the new act. Nigeria has struggled with poor power supply for decades, a challenge that is estimated to cost businesses about $29 billion yearly, according to the World Bank. The country has the lowest access to electricity globally, with about 92 million persons out of the country’s 200 million population lacking access to power, according to the Energy Progress Report 2022 released by Tracking SDG 7. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/669146-eu-to-invest-e37-million-in-nigerias-power-sector.html mukina2 , dominique mynd44 oam4j seun lalasticlala seun nlfpmod |

The Ogun State government says it will soon roll out electric vehicles and motorcycles as part of measures to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal from petrol. Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this while declaring open the 18th National Council of Transportation conference being held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta. Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Enhancing innovations And Technologies For Sustainable Transportation: Tackling The Energy Challenges”, Governor Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner For Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, stated that before the federal government rolled out plans for the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project, the state had taken the initiative by rolling out the CNG compliant vehicles to support green environment, fight against global warming and ease the transportation burden faced by the public. Abiodun added that other alternative sources of energy, which include electric trucks and motorbikes will soon be launched in the state. He enjoined delegates to build on the potentiality inherent in cross fertilization of ideas, innovations, and technologies. Following the directive by President Bola Tinubu to security agents to tackle factors responsible for food crisis in the country by clamping down on hoarders and speculators, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off a well-known supermarket in the Area 11 Garki area of Abuja on Friday. The management of Sahad Store Supermarket was accused of shortchanging customers by charging prices other than the official price tag on their shelves. The FCCPC enforcement team was led by Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the agency, Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi. Briefing journalists thereafter, Abdullahi said the commission’s preliminary investigation confirmed that the owners of the supermarket were short-changing customers. He said the store would remain sealed until the completion of the further investigation. “What we have found out that these people are doing is misleading pricing and lack of transparency in the pricing, which is against Section 115 (3) of the law that says a consumer is not required to pay a price for any good or service higher than the one that’s on display. “Section 155 states that any corporate person that contravenes is liable to a fine of 100 million naira or even more and the directors of the company themselves are liable upon conviction payment of 10 million naira each or imprisonment of six months or both. “What we have done today is to make sure that they comply with the law. We initially called them to come and defend themselves, but failed to show up. In the long run, they sent a lawyer whom we asked if he was familiar with the facts of the case. He said he wasn’t. “To unseal the store, they have to make sure that they do what is required to be done,” FCCPC boss stated. This comes after the Federal Government in collaboration with state governors agreed to set up a committee to tackle the issue of hoarding of produce and other essential commodities in the country following unprecedented prevailing food inflation. https://leadership.ng/just-in-federal-govt-shuts-popular-abuja-supermarket-over-hike-in-prices/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun nlfpmod FOD, dominique , puskin, naijacutee |

Sixty lawmakers at the House of Representatives have commenced moves to return Nigeria to a parliamentary system by 2031, by amending the 1999 Constitution. The spokesperson for the group, Rep Abdulsamad Dasuki (PDP-Sokoto, said this at a news conference at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday. According to him, the proposed amendment would significantly impact on the nation’s political landscape. He further stated that the lawmakers were advocating a transition from the current presidential system to a parliamentary system at all levels, including federal, state, and local government councils. “Our founders, in their wisdom and in a political atmosphere devoid of compulsion, considered the interests of their native peoples, and their desire to live together led them to adopt the parliamentary system of government. “They considered a country where truth and justice reign, where no man is oppressed, and where all citizens live in peace and plenty, and adopted the parliamentary system of government,” he said. The lawmaker said that the collapse of the First Republic and the long stretch of military rule culminated in the adoption of a new system of government, fashioned after the U.S Presidential System. “Over the years, the imperfections of the presidential system of government have become glaring to all, in spite of several alterations to the constitution to address the shortcomings. “The system has denied the nation the opportunity to attain its full potential. “Among these imperfections, are the high cost of governance, leaving fewer resources for crucial areas like infrastructure, education, and healthcare,” he said. He said that the system had it hindered the nation’s developmental progress as it vested excessive powers vested on the executives, who were appointees and not directly accountable to the people. DAILY POST reports that parliamentary is a system of government where the legislature is supreme and elects a prime minister from among its members as the head of government. https://dailypost.ng/2024/02/14/60-reps-seek-return-to-parliamentary-system-in-nigeria-by-2031/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun nlfpmod |

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly hijacked GUO motors coming to the South-East from Lagos State, South West Nigeria and abducted all passengers. The kidnappers reportedly killed the driver of the bus and left a little girl behind after kidnapping her parents alongside other passengers. Although SaharaReporters could not ascertain the exact location of the incident that was said to have happened on Friday, voices in a video of the incident shared by Senator Ned Nwoko on his X (formerly Twitter) said that the vehicle was coming from Lagos. In the video seen by SaharaReporters on Saturday, a voice said "This bus is coming from Lagos. We stopped together at Akure and ate." Meanwhile, the Senator has decried the attack, noting that this was one of the reasons for the law on self-defence which he is sponsoring at the National Assembly. Senator Nwoko, who expressed dismay over the handling of the kidnapping menace by the security agencies, said that perhaps if the driver had a gun or any of the passengers, the kidnappers wouldn’t certainly have their way. The attack has attracted angry reactions from Nigerians who also shared the same belief that if this is law on self-defence and residents can carry arms, the kidnapping monster would certainly be teamed. @flourish007 wrote: "I agree with you here Mr Senator because One of the main reasons citizens should be allowed to carry firearms for self- defense is the fundamental right to protect oneself and loved ones from harm. "In situations like this one where law enforcement wasn’t available, individuals including the driver and passengers should have the means to defend themselves from potential threats. "Additionally, in some areas where kidnapping and robbery are regularly occurring, response times for emergency services is always lengthy, making self-defense a crucial aspect of personal safety. "Furthermore, responsible gun ownership and training can empower individuals to be more capable of protecting themselves and others in dangerous situations. However, it is important to emphasize the need for strict regulations, background checks, and training to ensure that firearms are used responsibly and safely. "I wish you lawmakers can at least do this for the defenceless citizens. Obviously you guys have security attached to your roles coupled with 160m SUVs purchased with our money. "If kidnappers knows that there are NOT likely to succeed and return to their forests. They will STOP" @francis_ranco wrote: "You are right on this, Oga. "Self defence is the most effective way of self preservation. Nigerians must be allowed to defend themselves. If the govt fails to adhere to this, dem go explain tire later!" @solexcasa also wrote: "It is evident that this incident happened a few minutes before the security personnel arrived. Why are they not going after the kidnappers? "Why are they speaking to the girl and contaminating the crime scene? Why are men of the @PoliceNG so unprofessional in their conduct?" https://saharareporters.com/2024/02/10/gunmen-kill-bus-driver-kidnap-all-passengers-coming-south-east-lagos-abandon-little-girl mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun nlfpmod |
