T he Federal Government yesterday announced the addition of
625MW of power to the national grid, increasing the grid’s
wheeling capacity to 4800MW. . Special Adviser, Strategic Communications to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, said this in a statement in Abuja. Bolaji quoted the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu as saying this at the inauguration of the 63 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA), 132/33 Kilo Volt (KV )mobile station at Ajah, Lagos and at the inauguration of 60MWA, 132/33KV Power Transformer in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi . According to the minister, the pivotal project is a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu towards transforming the Power sector in the pursuit of reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure for a better Nigeria. Adelabu said that the mobile substation being inaugurated was a strategic deployment aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300mv across the nation. He spoke on the significance of the project and other equipment undergoing installation under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). ”I urge all Nigerians to safeguard these vital installations against acts of vandalisation and sabotage,”he said. Adelabu noted that the success of government initiatives hinges on collective responsibility. He also called on the management of the Power Company and all stakeholders in the power sector to work with determination to ensure that the timelines set for projects delivery are achieved. “Together, we will embark on a journey towards a brighter future for Nigeria, one powered by innovation, resilience and collective determination”, he said. Earlier in his remarks, Mr Kenny Anuwe, Managing Director of FGN Power Company said, ” as Nigeria continues its journey towards energy sufficiency and economic prosperity, initiatives like the PPI. According to him, this underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering determination to deliver adequate electricity towards unlocking Nigeria’s full economic potentials. Anuwe assured of FGN Power Company’s commitment in driving progress and delivering tangible improvements in electricity access for all Nigerians in this transformative era in Nigeria’s power Sector. Saudi Arabia yesterday donated 50 tonnes of high-quality dates to Nigeria in a bid to deepen bilateral relations between both countries. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, H.E Faisal Ebraheem Alghamdi presented the donation at a ceremony at the Saudi Embassy in Abuja. He said the Saudi government, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), had been providing humanitarian assistance to Nigeria in different fields. He said the most recent intervention was the execution of their Special Feeding Programme tagged “Et’am 3 Initiative” in March 2024 where about 5,606 food packages which cost $400,000, were distributed to beneficiaries in Kano, JIgawa, Katsina, Borno and Abuja. Also, a statement by the embassy said Saudi’s humanitarian centre intended to carry out a medical diagnostic campaign in Abuja, Kano and Lagos in the last quarter of 2024 as part of efforts to fulfil its humanitarian and pioneering role at the international level as well as its commitment to the humanitarian principle that focused on alleviating the sufferings of all people in distress. The statement also mentioned that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had delivered 98 projects in Nigeria valued at $47,194,210 in food security, health, early recovery, sanitation and hygiene, education and charitable assistance. Receiving the donation, H.E. Amb. A statement issued by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday said the President believed every hardworking Nigerian should have access to social mobility, with consumer credit playing a pivotal role in achieving this vision. The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) achieves its mandate through the following: (1) Strengthening Nigeria’s credit reporting systems, ensuring every economically active citizen has a dependable credit score. This score becomes personal equity they build, facilitating access to consumer credit. (2) Offering credit guarantees and wholesale lending to financial institutions dedicated to broadening consumer credit access today. (3) Promoting responsible consumer credit as a pathway to an improved quality of life, fostering a cultural shift towards growth and financial responsibility. According to Ngelale, in line with the President’s directive to expand consumer credit access to Nigerians, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has launched a portal for Nigerians to express interest in receiving consumer credit.
