PoliticsBehind Apc’s Positive Showing In Rivers – Okocha by ManirBK(op): 3:36pm On Mar 03, 2023
Some members of the Presidential Campaign Council of
the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State have
attributed the victory of the APC in the state to the effort
of Governor Nyesom Wike.
However, members of the APC PCC loyal to Tony
Okocha, the former Chief of Staff to former Governor
Rotimi Amaechi, have insisted that Wike is still a member
of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Okocha who was the State Chairman, Local Organizing
Committee of the APC PCC, in a press briefing in Port
Harcourt, said they are ready to reciprocate the gesture of
Governor Wike in the March 11th Governorship and state
House of Assembly elections in the state.
He alleged that members of the APC led by former
Minister of Transportation, Amaechi and the PCC
members led by the Governorship candidate of the APC
in Rivers State, Patrick Tonye-Cole, tried to sabotage the
campaign of President-elect, Bola Tinubu in the state.
“No meeting of the PCC under the leadership of the
Governorship candidate, Architect Tonye Cole was ever
held. No campaign for the presidential candidate,
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was ever sponsored neither
in posters, billboards, jingles, campaign rallies nor in any
form of campaign engagement was our presidential
candidate mentioned,” he said.
Okocha said since 2015, APC never had it right in Rivers
state until the 2023 general elections.
The APC in Rivers state, however, in a reaction to
Okocha’s claims, said he is not a member of their party
in the state and therefore has no right to speak for the
APC.
The State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Darlington
Nwauju said Okocha has been working for the PDP for
some years now.
Nwauju insisted that APC across party lines, have
remained resolute in their support for the Governorship
candidate, Patrick Tonye-Cole in the forthcoming March
11 election.
He said Okocha could not claim that governor Wike’s
effort was responsible for the victory of APC, when Wike
himself has denied involvement in the victory of the APC
Presidential elections.
“Tony Okocha has acquired for himself a style of politics
that is simply prebendal in nature. And I also think that
he has made himself in the past few years, especially
since 2018, a transactional politician.
“I have no issue with him transacting with the PDP and
making one or two businesses with the APC Presidential
Campaign Council to make a few naira. But for him to
speak for the APC in Rivers state, he does not have the
legal nor the moral right to do so.
“A very clear example why he has no right to claim to be
a member of the APC or to talk about issues that relate
with the APC in Rivers State, is the day of the presidential
rally in Port Harcourt. He was not allowed to address the
APC members. They booed him because they know his
antecedents. We have no business with him. I do not
even know which part he belongs to. For all I care, he
works with the PDP in Rivers state.”

PoliticsLabour Party Bought Votes With Dollars, Atiku Shared N200 – Sdp’s Adebayo by ManirBK(op): 3:01pm On Mar 03, 2023
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic
Party, Adebayo Adewole, has accused the Labour Party,
LP; the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and the All
Progressives Congress, APC; of cheating during the last
presidential and National Assembly election.
According to him, all the political parties, even those
complaining after the election, cheated through different
means, especially vote-buying.
Adewole, who appeared on Arise Television’s The
Morning Show on Friday, specifically accused the Labour
Party of sharing dollars to the electorate in his own
polling unit in Ondo State during the polls.
“A victim cannot be blaming other victims. I never said
nothing is wrong with the election. Everything is wrong
with the election. Anyone who wants to go and challenge
the election should do so because everything is wrong
with the election,” Adewole said.
“But it’s not only what happened that day that was wrong
with the election. People (political parties] cheated. Many
of those who are complaining now cheated in the
election. In the polling unit where I voted, Labour Party
cheated, PDP cheated and the APC cheated more
because vote buying is cheating.
“APC used recharge cards to cheat, the Labour Party
brought dollars and PDP shared money. Why will I not
complain? Atiku Abubakar cheated me of my vote in
Katsina and Adamawa State, he was buying votes with
N200. What I’m saying is that the election is flawed. It’s
not an honest process.”

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has assured the president-
elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that the 10th National Assembly
will avail his administration full cooperation and support to
deliver on its mandate to the Nigerians.
Lawan said the victory of Tinubu as the Saturday’s presidential
poll affirmed the trust of the Nigerian people in the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.
“Nigerians have spoken unequivocally with their votes in their
endorsement of that agenda and the Renewed Hope Compact
that you, our flag bearers, presented during the campaigns.
Because of your sterling track records in public service, we are
confident that you will competently and faithfully deliver on that
compact.
“The outcome of the election is a seal of approval by the
Nigerian people of the performance of the Government of the
APC in the last eight years under the leadership of President
Muhammadu Buhari,” Lawan said in a statement by his media
aide, Ola Awoniyi.

PoliticsI Won’t Step Down, INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu Replies Opposition Parties by ManirBK(op): 6:11pm On Feb 28, 2023
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said the call for his resignation by the Labour Party (LP) and the People’s Democratic Democratic Party (PDP) is misplaced.

Daily Trust had reported how some parties said they had lost confidence in the ongoing election process over the non-use of electronic transmission of results as stipulated by the Electoral Act.

At a briefing in Abuja, the opposition parties alleged that Saturday’s elections had been manipulated.

But responding through Rotimi Oyekanmi, his Chief Press Secretary, the INEC Chairman, said contrary to the insinuation by both parties, results emanating from the States point to a free, fair and credible process.

The commission also said allegation by Senator Dino Melaye that the INEC Chairman allocated scores to parties is unfounded and irresponsible.

“To be sure, aggrieved parties are free to approach the courts to ventilate their concerns and wait for the matter to be resolved. Making inciting comments capable of causing violence or unrest is unacceptable.

“The 2023 General election processes are in their final stages of completion. It is only fair for aggrieved parties to allow the conclusion of the process and approach the courts with their evidences to pursue their cases

“There are laid down procedures for aggrieved parties or candidates to follow when they are dissatisfied about the outcome of an election. Such procedures do not include calling on the INEC Chairman to resign or for the election to be cancelled.”

PoliticsAtiku Wins Sokoto As PDP Calls For Fresh Election In 471 Polling Units by ManirBK(op):
Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party
(PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has won the presidential election in
Sokoto state.
Atiku won the election with 288,679 to beat the presidential
candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled
285,444 votes.
Tinubu was leading Atiku with about 7000 votes after results
from 22 local government areas had been announced.
However, the result from the last local government area,
Tambuwal which is the hometown of Governor Aminu Waziri
Tambuwal overturned the result, and put Atiku ahead with
3,235 votes.

According to the result which was announced around 2am,
presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) came third with
6,568 votes while Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of the New
Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) scored 1,300 votes.
The returning officer, Professor Muhammadu Kabir noted that,
election from 471 polling units across 133 registration areas
were canceled over violence, among others issues.
He noted that, the cancellation affected 301,499 registered
voters with 254,902 collected Permanent Voters Cards.
Shortly after the announcement, the PDP agent and former
Minister of Transport, Yusuf Suleiman called on the electoral
body to conduct another election in the affected areas.
According to him, the result declared did not represent the
wish of the people of the state because over 300,000 were
denied their right to vote the candidate of their choice during
the election due to violence perpetrated by thugs.
Responding to his call, agent of the APC and the Minister of
Police Affairs, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, said INEC
should.be allowed to do its job.

PoliticsNigeria Elections Generally Peaceful, Transparent – ECOWAS Observers by ManirBK(op): 10:21pm On Feb 27, 2023
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Observation Mission deployed to the Nigerian general elections on Saturday has said the exercise was generally peaceful and transparent.
Former President Ernest Koroma of Sierra Leone, Leader of the ECOWAS delegation, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a preliminary briefing on the elections.

Koroma who said the voter turnout was low in most polling units visited, said most electorates composed themselves throughout the voting process.

“Vote counting and tallying processes were carried out in a transparent, simple and professional manner, in the presence of party agents, observers, and security agents in the daytime in some polling units and with lamps in others, where voting was delayed,” he added.

While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for ensuring a hitch-free exercise, he, however, noted that there were pockets of violence in some states of the federation during the election.

The former President of Sierra Leone added that: “Most polling officials and ad-hoc staff demonstrated inadequate knowledge of their duties, especially with voting materials.

“The set-up of most of the polling units visited did not adequately protect the secrecy of the voting process.”
The Mission, therefore, called on INEC to ensure prompt transmission and declaration of the provisional results.

It also urged INEC to increase the frequency of communication on developments regarding the electoral process to the general public to discourage misinformation through social media.

Speaking also, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray said: “ECOWAS will indeed follow results closely and continue to reach out to all stakeholders within the framework of our preventive diplomacy”.

Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has enjoined the residents of Lagos State to shun any act of violence as a result of his loss to his Labour Party rival, Peter Obi, in Saturday’s presidential election in the state. Tinubu, who said this via a statement issued on Monday by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, noted that the result of the 2023 presidential election should not be a source of violence in Lagos State. “The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos State to another party should not be the reason for violence. “As a democrat, you win some, you lose some. We must allow the process to continue unhindered across the country while we maintain peace and decorum,” the former governor of Lagos State said.

PoliticsCollation Of Kebbi Central Results Stalled As Returning Officer Disappears by ManirBK(op): 10:01pm On Feb 27, 2023
The National Independent Electoral Commission(INEC) has
stopped the coalition of Kebbi central senatorial election
results following the disappearance of the returning
officer for Marafa ward, in Birnin Kebbi.
He was asked to step aside and reconcile some
discrepancies in the result figures he brought to the
collation centre when he disappeared and could not be
traced since Sunday.
He went missing around 2 pm on Sunday afternoon and has
been holding INEC officials at the coalition centre for
ransom for about 17 hours without a trace of him.
The results in question are between Governor Abubakar
Atiku Bagudu and Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero. So
far, results from seven local governments were collated out
of the eight local governments that constitute Kebbi central
senatorial district.

Political party agents at the collation centre have expressed
worry over the development particularly as INEC is yet to
decide on what to do about the situation.
A PDP chieftain, Alhaji Sani Dododo told journalists at the
collation centre that they would have no other alternative
than to raise alarm over the development if INEC refuses to
do something within the next few minutes about the
returning officer’s disappearance.
“We are just waiting for them to do something about it. If
we waited a little more without anything from INEC and
security officials here we would tell the world about what’s
happening now”, he said.
When contacted, the Resident Electoral Commissioner,
Barrister Ahmed Bello Mahmud said he would find out
about development from Birnin Kebbi electoral officer to
know the next line of action.
